We need to teach the body how to operate by supplementing with small proteins called peptides. All mammals receive those vital peptides when we receive the first milk, or colostrum, from their mothers. The peptides in this first milk signal to the body that the baby has been born and is no longer insulated by the mother. Then the biochemistry kicks in to assist in the development of the immune system.

In our modern world, the body is being exposed to so many environmental toxins that the immune system doesn't know how to respond to all of these foreign presences. One of the effects of this is a steady increase in auto-immune disease characterized by an over-active immune system.

Dr. Keech is the formulator and supplier of this product which Isagenix has an exclusive on. They harvest small peptides from the colostrums. These peptides regulate the production and balance of cytokines in the body. Cytokines make up a biochemical communication system between all cells in our body and play an essential role in balancing the immune system.

Isamune balances or modulates the immune system. It doesn't boost or suppress the system but simply provides the raw materials for the body to use to balance it. That is why this product is equally beneficial for over-active (auto-immune) and suppressed or deficient immune systems.

I use Isamune every day as a preventative measure.
TO ORDER ISAMUNE
www.cleanseenergy.com
or call 604 608 0511 for wholesale pricing.

WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?

Recently there has been a lot of buzz about Glutathione. Many people think that it is a pill that one takes and once taken, the body then does amazing things. What many people are not clear on is, what are those amazing things and what are those little pills that they are taking. One of the more knowledgeable people to explain what Glutathione is, is Dr. Mercola. This is an excerpt taken from his website www.drmercola.com

"Glutathione is one of the most essential antioxidants. One can take supplements for it, but the only form that works is the reduced form and this is very difficult to absorb orally. It is much more cost effective to supplement with precursors or items like alpha lipoic acid that regenerates glutathione. It also has the ability to regenerate other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E. Red meat and organ meats are the best sources of alpha lipoic acid. Glutamine is also a useful nutrient that improves intestinal health and also serves as a direct precursor to glutathione, and some investigators believe it to be the rate-limiting nutrient for glutathione formation."

Alpha lipoic acid is found in the Isagenix Antioxidants and a good Vitamin C to take is the Isagenix C-Lyte. C-Lyte utlizes three
forms of vitamins, including calcium, magnesium and sodium ascorbates. Calcium ascorbate is a natural form of vitamin C, which is much more readily absorbed in the blood stream than other forms of calcium. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. It is essential to build the bones and teeth and numerous metabolic functions. Sodium ascorbate is the most used form of vitamin C in high dosage medical research studies. C-Lyte is made using a proprietary process. This results in a pH-neutral product that contains naturally occurring vitamin-C metabolites, which create quick absorption and maximum retention. Metabolites activate the vitamin C molecules and make it much easier for your body to transport them from cell to cell, helping to increase health benefits.

Order C-Lyte & party. I didn't know what to expect. I thought I was going to be eating carrots with dip. Boy was I surprised. The food was incredible. Even my meat eating friend was amazed by all the delicous dishes we were served. At the time I thought, this is great but it seems like waaaay too much work. Little did I realize that the work involved was really the same amount of work involved in putting on any dinner party. You just have to be prepared and have the right tools and ingredients. This is one of those recipes that Belinda, the party hostess made that night. It took me about two years before I actually made this recipe because I thought that the fact that it involved fresh dates and miso (so exotic sounding at the time) would somehow make it complicated and labour intensive. This is so far from the truth. Besides, it is a fantastic way to eat your dark leafy greens. I wouldn't have my kale any other way!

BAB- Raw Bill Curry Kale Salad - spices such as curry and cayenne may be adjusted. The original recipe had more of both and I found it too spicy.

4 T Olive Oil
1 T Miso
1/1/2 tsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp cayenne powder
3 cloves fresh garlic
1 tsp fresh ginger
2 whole dates
1 bunch dinosaur (black) kale

Put ingredients into an Isablender, Magic Bullet, Vitamix, Blender or whatever. I love my Isablender for this - it is like a Magic Bullet. Add water to thin out if necessary. Wash the kale and cut into very thin strips. Add dressing and massage in for 1 minute. Serve right away or let chill for 1-2 hours. I sprinkle it with Isacrunch hemp seeds for some crunch, flavour and protein. If you want an Isablender or Isacrunch - I can get these for you wholesale or you can purchase directly from my retail website www.cleanseenergy.com

40 Day Health Challenge

Starts October 19th and runs 40 days

You will, transform your body, reduce toxicity, develop new habits diminish toxic fat, build lean muscle, experience more energy, decreased stress, achieve hormonal balance and much more!

Program includes:
Easy to follow proven success model
Initial consultation
Personal dietary analysis and review
Individual program design
Weekly group healthy lifestyle coaching calls
Weekly email coaching tips

Health Investment:
ONLY $119 plus cost of your personalized nutritional program (includes meals)
ONLY $99 plus cost of your personalized nutritional program (includes meals) when 2 or more register together
To register - click on the title or email me.

More about the liver!

<img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; Drink a hot cup of water with lemon in the morning. Drink water with lemon anytime you drink water.

2. Eat as organic as possible. Non-organic food is sprayed with chemicals and makes extra work for the already taxed liver.

3. Avoid over eating. Too much food can stress the digestive tract including the liver.

4. Increase green vegetables, especially the bitter lettuces such as arugula, endive and mustard greens. This supports the flow of bile which aids in the detoxification processes of the liver.

5. Use fresh herbs such as tumeric, rosemary, dill and caraway as much as possible in cooking. These herbs have been shown to support optimal liver function.

Easy changes to make this week.

1. Switch to water with lemon for at least one drink a day to start. Easy at a restaurant to ask for it.

2. Buy some organic veggies the next time you are at the store.

3. Be European - eat salad, then wait 20 minutes, then come back to have the rest of the meal.

4. Try a bitter lettuce or mix in a bitter lettuce with your regular choice of lettuce.

5. Make a dressing for your salad with the fresh herbs mentioned above.

40 day Health Challenge

Starting October 19 and running until November 29 is a health challenge. If not now, when?

People always have excuses for not starting something. Oh, a big dinner party is coming, Oh, it is my birthday, Oh, I have dinner meetings. Something is always going to come up. Can you think of even just a week when you have no obligations, such as a lunch meeting, a birthday party, meeting a friend for drinks?

Recently when I was cleansing, I went to visit my parents. I don't see them that often and my mother is a great cook. I got around it by showing them some of my healthy recipes and taking home a care package. I was setting a good example and felt great the entire time. I didn't feel I missed out at all.

Think about your priorities when it comes to your health. I may have mentioned before that I don't really know what is going on in the world in terms of being up to date on the absolute latest current events. I used to feel kind of irresponsible for not knowing but I got over that. If there is any big news, I usually find out about it in due time. Most of the news is toxic for the mind anyway.

So today, current event #1 that I heard about a breakfast meeting table of about 40 people was about this flu that we are apparently going to be hit with. I heard one person advocating getting shots and another mentioned that he had already bought his face mask because he expects there to be a run on them. I don't want to be like an ostrich who buries his head in the sand but at the same time I also don't want to let things get out of hand in my own mind. I looked down the table at all of the people who were sitting there and wondered how scared they were about this. I wondered how many of them are going to be freaking out and getting whatever shots and whatever medication they can when the time comes to either protect themselves or to get over what ails them. I then thought about what most of them had had for breakfast at this 7 am meeting. I saw one guy eating carrot cake and coffee. Another eating a muffin (cake in a muffin shape) and a few with a breakfast burrito. I wondered how many of them actually thought about prevention.

Anyway, that is it. That is all I have to say. I just wanted to put that out there to have whoever is reading this think about what you might be doing to be preventative. There are many easy things that can be done all surrounding diet and nutrition, including cleansing - not just the body but also the mind. Call me and I will help you.

Yin Yoga

I have been recently doing Yin Yoga - I love it! What is so great about this type of yoga? The stretches are held anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes. I usually hold my stretches for 5 minutes. The nice thing about this type of yoga is that the body is in a relaxed state working with gravity, not against it. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

Every time I do this yoga before bed I sleep really deeply. It seems that almost everyone I know needs to stretch more, myself included. I was amazed when I started doing this yoga that I actually had the discipline to do it myself and for an hour and a half at a time. The first DVD I purchased was a DVD by Paul Grilley. You can find more information about this type of yoga and where to purchase a DVD at http://www.paulgrilley.com/ You can also check them out of the library first to find one you like before making a purchase.

Lose Weight by Enjoying Yourself More!

While I was in Europe, I spent a lot of time dining. I knew that in Greece, if I ordered my appetizer and my entree at the same time, they would both come out at the same time, so I started to order them separately. It was a great idea that I am now using at home too.

This is what I have been doing and it has been working excellent to reduce the amount of food I eat and to increase the amount of enjoyment out of my dining time. First thing - If I order an alcoholic beverage I will always order a water with lemon in addition to that. I sip and chat for awhile and then I order an appetizer. Second thing - usually after the appetizer is done and a few minutes have passed, I don't feel nearly as ambitious with my main order and I usually decide to scale it down. It takes about 2o minutes for the stomach to know if it really wants more food or not, so the extra time I get between finishing the appetizer and the main order being taken, helps me to curb needless over eating. I also slow down the entire pace of the evening and this is good for digestion as well. Plus, if you don't have a really full tummy, then you also sleep better. The benefits go on and on.

I have found this to be a very easy and pleasant change to my dining habits.

Toxic Veggies

Did you know that the following are the most highly sprayed fruits and vegetables?

Strawberries
Bell peppers (green and red)
Spinach (tied with number 2)
Cherries (grown in the United States)
Peaches (grown in Chile)
Cantaloupe (grown in Mexico)
Celery
Apples
Apricots
Green beans
Grapes
Cucumbers

If you are choosing to go organic, I would start with the top of this list. I was completely disconnected from phones and computers. I didn't check voice mail and I didn't check email. It was fantastic.

Years ago, I was one of those people who didn't want to get a cell phone - I finally caved about 4 years ago and do find it a great convenience. I use it for calling out only and barely anyone has the number. Then about a year and a half ago I decided to get email on it. What a convenience! I was checking my email every chance I got. I was never "off".

I have noticed more and more that when people get together for dinner or coffee, the first thing they do is put their phone on the table. I saw three women do it in Greece over dinner and it reminded me of cowboys taking their guns out of the holster. I find this quite distasteful. What about self control? I know that my self control in areas such as this is rather weak, so... today I cancelled the email on my phone. I am not a brain surgeon, no one is going to die if I don't get back to them immediately. I also figure that this will help me separate personal and business life more, which I think is a good thing - it will definitely help with time management. Who wants to be working all the time anyway? We'll see how this goes.

Life is moving so fast and it seems that relationships are becoming less and less personal. I challenge you to monitor your use of your cell phone. My previous experiment which seems to be working well is that I have also taken myself off Facebook. It has been a month and I am not shaking or convulsing without it. I found it was a time waster and if I really want to have a relationship with these people and vice versa, hopefully one of us will pick up the phone and get together for an in person visit.

Think the government will look after you?

I see it all the time. People treat their bodies as though they aren't the most important asset they have. It is our responsibility to take care of ourselves. Exercise, eat right, drink lots of water, get plenty of rest. Think good thoughts, be around good, empowering & positive people. Choose your friends wisely. Don't smoke. Drink alcohol in moderation. Wear your seat belt, wear your bike helmet and don't wear your IPOD while riding. The basics! My boyfriend always teases me about how careful I am but if I am being careless about my health and my wellbeing why should I expect the tax payers to look after me when I end up in the hospital because of deliberate abuse. I am not suggesting that we elimiate things that are enjoyable but be smart and enjoy things in moderation. Heard of the 80-20 rule? It applies everywhere!

I don't know how many times I have heard people who are on the verge of diabetes or headed straight for another disease related to obesity say things like: "I don't want to eat that" - "I would rather get my vitamins from real food." "I need to run this by my Dr. first" Then they plod off to MacDonalds in their car for a "mystery" burger with fries that don't decompose over months, (have you seen Super Size me?) with a diet coke that has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats." Or this excuse: "I don't have time to exercise" when really at this point, a walk around the block would be considered exercise for them.

When we are lying in the hospital with whatever ailment we are struck with, what do you think you would give to have your health back? Would you walk around that block? Order salad with dressing on the side rather than fries? The small daily choices we make can result in big changes over time- either positive or negative. We have a choice. Educate yourself, be open.

By the way, this is what is in diet coke.

Carbonated water
Caramel color
Aspartame
Phosphoric acid
Potassium benzoate (to protect taste)
Natural flavors
Citric acid
Caffeine

Dr. Weil has a good book called Eight weeks to optimum health and he has an informative website. http://www.drweil.com/

All the best in good health to you!

Your daily required intake of mercury.

Mercury is something that is found in many places you wouldn't expect. In our mouths in the form of amalgam fillings, in our foods through the fish we eat. Years ago I had the fillings taken out of my mouth as I was experiencing major health problems. I also reduced and continue to reduce the amount of fish I eat that may have mercury in it. One of those fish is tuna. You may have heard about the actor Jeremy Piven who had high levels of mercury in his system http://www.tmz.com/2008/12/19/piven-went-mono-before-going-to-mercury/ I also had a friend who experienced very high mercury levels because of many sushi lunches. Check this link out http://www.ewg.org/tunacalculator to see how much tuna you can safely eat in a week.

Nutrient Rich Foods!

Did you know that one scoop of the Isalean shake that I have for breakfast contains more nutrients than 20 vegetarian subway sandwiches? Mineral oil has absolutely no nutritional value. It is a known carcinogen (Cancer causing agent) and yet the cosmetic industry still uses them in lip gloss, lotions, creams, oitments and shampoos. An unbiased study released by the Cancer Prevention Coalition in June 2002, contained the following: 'Cancer and health experts just concluded reviews that indicate mainstream cosmetics and personal hygiene products including lotions, soaps and shampoos, pose the highest risk exposures to the general public. This risk is higher than smoking."

From the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), March of 2001: "In a study of environmental toxins found in the blood and urine, there were surprisingly high amounts of toxic chemicals found in everyday products like perfume, soaps and cosmetics in the people tested."
John Hopkins University named mineral oil in cosmetics and moisturizers as the number two cause of aging. The first being direct exposure to the sun.The result is premature aging and increased health risks.

Ninety eight percent of personal care products sold in the United States contain mineral oil and other petrochemicals. You may not be able to find mineral oil on your label because it has hundreds of different names. This refined petroleum product forms a film on the surface of your skin that can not be absorbed. (sort like wrapping your face with Saran wrap everyday.) It blocks the pores and the skin's natural respiration. Mineral oil may also cause allergic reactions and dryness. It traps dirt and bacteria and blocks the absorption of vitamins/minerals/botanicals that may be in a product.

Do a comparison test:

Take two glasses, fill one with baby oil (mineral oil) and the other with water. Put a cracker in each of the glasses and let them sit for a few minutes and see what happens. You will find that the cracker in water completely absorbs the water. The cracker in mineral oil does not. It creates a very hard barrier on the surface of the cracker. Mineral oil and other harmful ingredients are found in 98% of all cosmetics in North America.

If you are looking for a safe alternative to your skin care. I can help. I actually just got a rockin' good deal on some natural skin care products and I only have a few left.

Why water and not pop, coffee or tea?

I often get the above question from people. They think that because they are taking in liquids, like coffee, tea, juice or soda, they are getting what would be considered part of their daily water intake. This isn't true. Substances like coffee and tea and alcohol dehydrate.

A great book to read is You're Not Sick You're Thirsty by Dr. Batmanghelidj. This is what he explains about water: "When you drink coffee, tea or even a beer, your body gets rid of more water than is contained in the drink. If you measure your urine volume after the beverage is taken, you will see that you have passed more urine than the volume of the drink. When the human body is dehydrated, it redistributes and regulates the amount of available water. Within the body, alarms signal to show that areas in question are in short supply, much like the light signal that goes on when a car is running low on gas or oil. The available water is rationed and used where needed. The presence of water will ulitmately regulate the production mechanisms in a drought stricken area of the body."

If this seems unbelieveable to you, I challenge you to do a test. For a week only drink water. Unless I am treating myself to a coffee or a glass of wine or the occasional martini, I never have pop, juice or milk, I instead have water with lemon. I have it with lemon because it is alkalizing and cleansing to the body. This is an easy thing to do at home or to ask for in a restaurant. So back to your challenge. Drink half your body weight in ounces as a minimum - if you are 150 lbs at least 75 ounces of water a day - a litre is 32 ounces. Get a few large 1 litre bottles and fill the number you will need to drink by the end of the day. Drink more if you are in dry heat or exercising. Do not drink coffee, tea, soda, juice or anything else and monitor how you feel. Keep a daily diary. My guess is that you will feel better. You may find you have less headaches, less aches and pains generally, maybe a better and deeper sleep, perhaps you will have more energy and less need for the afternoon pick me up coffee. If this seems really impossible, modify it and make small changes. Post your comments here on what you have found!

<category scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="Don't think your fat? In the past year, my boyfriend Joe has referred me to several of his friends. Most of the people I am referred to talk to me and start on a healthy change. One of Joe's friends, I will call Gordon, (not his real name) was about 65 or so. In his younger years he was a competitive body builder and continued to break records in the senior categories. Gordon and I were going to talk cleansing but he was always so busy and for whatever reason he didn't make it a priority. Six weeks ago, Gordon died a quick death from a brain tumor. He worked in a toxic industry and who knows if what I have could have saved him, we will never know.

Once a week, Gordon and the guys would get together for breakfast. At a breakfast in memory of Gordon, Joe, my boyfriend sat talking with Martin (not his real name either). Martin was concerned about his health. He was 58 years old, overweight and needed to do something. His health was getting out of control and he was worried. He mentioned he had just started at the gym. When Joe told him what I did for a living he expressed genuine interest and asked me to call him. I followed up immediately but when I called it wasn't a good time and he asked me to call back. I called back another day, got voice mail and left a message. I also sent an email. No response. Two weeks later at breakfast with the guys, he never mentioned my calls to Joe, so I dropped it. I don't want to harass someone who really isn't interested.

I put Martin on my monthly newsletter list and sent out my first newsletter to him on February 2nd. I received an email back from Martin's wife, asking that I remove Martin off the list because he died in January; she thanked me for my understanding. I was sickened. I went on line to find the obituary. From what I could infer, he died of a heart attack. Joe was not close with Martin and found out about his death through me. That evening I was so sad. I just thought about all those men who are not taking care of their health. They get carried away with career and the rat race and they are either lazy or uneducated about their health. I wondered if he knew that he was one bite away from a heart attack? Probably not. If he could have told the future would he have had fruit salad instead of eggs benny?

When bodies are young, they can bounce back from abuse but as we age the body isn't so resilient. This guy was teetering on the edge of making a change but didn't fully commit. It would have been so easy to make a small change that might have saved his life. I know there are so many others out there that this will happen to. I know I can help many of them if they are ready and open to it. His poor wife is left alone in what is supposed to be her golden years and his kids are now without a dad. I cried as I thought about how much they are all missing. If you know a man who cannot see his shoes for his belly and wants to make a change but doesn't know where to start or is feeling overwhelmed with the thought, this is a perfect person for me to speak with.

How often do you go a day?

I know, many people like to avoid this topic. Why talk about it? What's to talk about? Do you know what I am talking about? I am talking about bowel movements; why they are important and how many you should be having a day. That's right. I said, how many a day! As in plural.

A healthy system will allow for 3 bowel movements a day. It is important for the body to do this elimination because toxic waste matter builds up on the colon wall and can wreak havoc on the body. When the body does not eliminate properly, toxins that are on the colon walls may be reabsorbed into the body. Colon cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancers. Constipation is believed to be the leading cause of this deadly disease. A clogged colon also results in many other problems like acne, obesity and gas to name only a few.

What can you do to start improving your colon health? Start with the following:

Drink half your body weight in water in ounces. 120 lbs = 60 ounces of water minimum daily.

Increase your fibre so you are eating at least 35 grams a day.

Do an overall cellular cleanse. This means the colon is cleansed too.

Do a maintenance program of cleansing.

Avoid eating processed foods and "fake" foods.

Avoid unnecessary medications.

A misconception is that fibre will constipate. A diet high in fiber from fruit, vegetables, and whole grains has many health benefits. Fiber does add bulk to feces, but it’s soft bulk (because of the water) and that’s why it can help people with mild constipation.

I will blog about processed foods and the bowels in another post. Stay tuned!

Pilates Teacher Training Program

I am holding two Pilates Teacher Training Courses in March. I realize I am fortunate and I realize that mostly because I get a lot compliments on it - sometimes you don't really see what is in the mirror. This "new truth" is something that I am slowly getting used to, as when I was a kid I had horrible acne. So horrible that when I was 11 I stopped eating anything with sugar in it. This was a challenge for me because in my family it wasn't a question of "Mom, what's for dinner?" It was always "Mom, what are we having for dessert?" Up until I started cleansing about 3 years ago, I had had very strong sugar cravings, where I would eat 5-6 pastries in a sitting every day. My point is, that for me to give up sugar at 11 was a challenge but I didn't want pimples. I was fanatical. I was often the tester for things my mother made, like homemade iced tea and I wouldn't even sample it to see if it was sweet enough. I stuck to this diet for months and it was around that time that I stopped eating meat. My skin got a lot better.

Just yesterday I had a girlfriend send out an email to a group of us asking the question: Just wondering if any of you have done any anti aging stuff for your face? I'm looking for something that reduces fine lines, makes you look vibrant.... Cari Lee, your skin always looks fantastic.. care to give me your secret?

I thought about this question and though I do a lot of good things on the outside for my skin, like using proper non-chemical skin care products that nourish my skin, I believe that without a proper diet my skin would not look as good as it looks. When I had acne, I would go to the Dr. and ask for remedies, I was given loads of bad chemicals to put on my face and in my body (could these strong drugs be the reason I got MS years later?) and it was suggested that I wash my face with Ivory soap. For 10 years I walked around with a tight dry face because that was preferable to oily!

There are a few things I do regularly that help my skin and they have all been proven to make a difference in the skin - I won't go into the reasons because that would be too long but I will make a note about it for another blog post. They are the following:

I drink at least half my body weight in ounces of water daily with lemon

I cleanse with a gentle anti-inflammatory natural cleanser & replenish with a non-alcoholic toner that rebalances my PH

I use a Vitamin C serum that has antioxidants and I use 30 SPF every day and a Night cream before bed.

I do a moisturizing face mask - probably should do it more than once a month but I do it when I remember.

I get a facial by Marta who does an amazing job - I should probably go every 4-6 weeks but it doesn't end up quite that often.

I wear a hat in the sun and avoid tanning

I take antioxidants, fish oils and other nutritional supplements daily.

I take a morning shake that floods my body with nutritents.

In addition to my seasonal cleanses, I do two cleanse days a month.

These are really easy things that become habits. We do so much for the outsides of our bodies but really it starts with the insides. How much stress is in your life? How much exercise are you getting? Is your body dehydrated? Are you nourishing your internal body with life giving alkalizing foods?

For more information on the skin care line and cleansing products I use, please visit http://www.cleanseenergy.com/ or to see a video on why cleansing is important visit http://www.cleansedforlife.com/
