On last count of the different styles and colours the range consisted of an impressive 53 different pairs of temples!!!

So, back to the question:

How many different frames do you need to own to reflect your mood?

The answer is:

One Dilem frame and however many different sides you fancy. Since the design of the sides has a screwless attachment mechanism, they are easily changed by a simple “click-out” and “click-in” action. So we asked the designers at moo to help us with the re-design of our much used card. Our new cards should reflect the spirit of Claudia K Opticians, look fresh, young and sophisticated. It should reflect the high standard we apply daily when advising our clients about stunning eyewear. Thanks to moo and their designer Snow, we achieved all that and much more. We love the colours which reflect our company image perfectly. We also like the fact that a 100% recycled paper is being used for the new cards, not only because it allows us to write notes on it easier than on waxed or laminated cards, but also and in particular, because they are better for the environment. These statements are so true, not only for furniture design (which is what the Authentic Design Alliance seems to concentrate on), but for all products, including frames and sunglasses. Believe it or not, there is a lot more to a well designed, genuine spectacle frame then meets the eye. Just look at the likes of Lindberg, MYKITA, JFRey and ic!berlin. Here are products that have been pushing boundaries for years. The designers of these frames are innovative and creative. They are not interested in following trends, they are creating them. That is also what authentic design is about.

Here is how it works: The patient looks through a small lens and presses the arrow key of the phone until a set of parallel green and red lines overlap. This has to be done eight times for each eye. Every time the lines are presented at different angles. After eight repetitions for each eye, where the lines are displayed at different angles, the device calculates the refractive error which. The result, according to the developers studies, is comparable to that of conventional sight testing equipment like phoropters and aberrometers.

In summary, it looks like a great little device that could be very useful in many places, but in particular in areas where sight tests have not been possible in the past due to high cost of equipment and/or lack of facilities (as is the case in remote underdeveloped areas of the world).

Why? Because they are so expensive? No! I guess that is the good news, they are actually quite reasonably priced compared with other ranges. They retail somewhere just above the NZ$300 mark. So they are not only fun, but also affordable. So why are they not available from your average Optician?
