  MRSCC Family and Friends Fun Day</title>
  <description>November 14, 2009 � 11:00 a.m. � 4:00 p.m. Mobile Regional Senior Community Center of the City of Mobile Parks and Recreation Department will have a Family and Friend�s Fun Day to celebrate the Center�s one year anniversary. The Mobile Regional Senior Community Center is located at 3201 Hillcrest Rd.  
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;This event is open to the public regardless of age and will feature lots of fun games, food, an art exhibit and class demonstrations. There will also be a pet food drive to help struggling seniors feed their pets.

  ALDOT Project on Old Shell Road Continues</title>
  <description>The ALDOT widening project on Old Shell Road continues with the closure of Old Shell between Schillinger Road and Cody Road. The road has been closed since last Monday and is scheduled to be reopened this Friday, November 11, 2009. The weather may delay the reopening, but the plan is to have it reopened absolutely no later than next Wednesday, November 18, 2009.

  <description>Mobile City Councilwoman Gina Gregory has scheduled two District 7 Community Meetings.  While the same topics will be discussed at both meetings, please note that the afternoon meeting at the Botanical Gardens on November 17th will feature a more condensed version of the information to be presented at the November 19th meeting.  As always, citizens are welcome to attend one or both of the meetings.

  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull</title>
  <description>The City of Mobile�s Neighborhood and Community Services Department continues its new program, Friday Night Flicks, an outdoor movie series on Friday, November 13th at Public Safety Park at 2301 Airport Blvd. in District 5 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. The inflatable screen, film and sound equipment is capable of serving 250 people per screening; and this month�s film is �Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.� Neighbors from each community, as well as from others in different districts, are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on during the event.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;Ann Rambeau, manager of the department says, �We purchased this film system as a means to introduce ourselves to the communities in each district, as well as neighbors to each other.�
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;Friday Night Flicks will travel during the fall and spring to different city parks in an effort to bring communities together as well as offer a free form of entertainment during these tough economic times.

  Gulf Coast Classic Calendar of Events</title>
  <description>The Gulf Coast Classic has been a part of Mobile's heritage for the past 35 years. However, last year marked a new beginning for the Classic. With long-term commitments from both universities, the Classic will feature Alabama State and Southern University for the next several years.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;The new "change" was brought about to bring stability and consistency to one of the premier HBCU college football contests in the country.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;Two weeks before the Classic game... that may well transform Mobile's economy and change the cultural fabric of the city; Alumni of Alabama State University, Southern University and Community Volunteers from Sororities, Fraternities and Community organizations of the Commonwealth National Bank Gulf Coast Classic, officially opened the "Mission Possible" office to rally the League of 40,000 supporters.

&lt;br&gt;President Copeland read a resolution that was unanimously approved by the council, which listed many of Councilman Johnson�s accomplishments (the entire text can be read below). Mr. Johnson was an original council member from when city government took the Mayor-Council form in 1985.

  Weed &amp; Seed to Head Toulminville Beautification Project</title>
  <description>The City of Mobile Weed &amp; Seed Office will be working with other city departments to plant shrubbery and plants as part of a Toulminville Beautification project along St. Stephens Road. The medians on St. Stephens Road near the Winn Dixie and Rodgers Bar-B-Que will get a brand new look.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;The project will begin on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. This is the first of many beautification projects to be implemented in the Crichton and Toulminville communities by the Mobile Weed and Seed. This project will be maintained by the St. Stephens Road Improvement Association.

  Mobile Utilizing Federal Program to Promote Safer Routes to Schools</title>
  <description>School children wanting to walk or bike to school are getting some much needed help as the City of Mobile has secured more than $1 million in federal grants through the Safe Routes to Schools program. The initiative involves the construction of sidewalks, improving school zone signage, and the installation of traffic control markings. The goal is to improve infrastructure around schools and to make walking to schools easier and more accessible.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;In Mobile, the following schools will begin to see construction today: Cranford Burns Middle School, Dodge Elementary School, ER Dickson Elementary School, Gilliard Elementary School, Holloway Elementary School, Kate Shepard Elementary School, Maryvale Elementary School, and Mobile County Training School.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;The total cost of the Safe Routes to Schools program in Mobile is $1,017,377.53, and it is completely funded by federal grant money. Peavy Construction was the low bidder for the project.

  <description>Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires in the United States and the second leading cause of home fire deaths in this country.  Misuse or improper maintenance causes most of these fires.  Before using any heating equipment it should be checked by a professional.  Make sure the unit is clear of dust build-up and change or clean filters before use.

&lt;br&gt;With the impending cooler temperatures expected to come into our area this weekend the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department offers the following winter safety information:

&lt;br&gt;The leading causes of home heating fires are:
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;Placing things that can burn too close to portable and fixed space heaters. 
&lt;br&gt;Failure to clean chimneys and connectors. 
&lt;br&gt;Improper design and installation. 
&lt;br&gt;Fueling errors involving liquid or gas fueled heaters. 
&lt;br&gt;Leaving auxiliary (i.e. portable space heaters) heating equipment unattended.

  Mobile Welcomes German Students</title>
  <description>Al Stokes, Mayor Jones's Chief of Staff, and the Mobile City Council welcomed a group of fourteen students and their teacher as part of the German-American Partnership Program (GAPP). They are from the Goethe Gymnasium (Gurrte Gim nah sium) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;GAPP is an exchange program that focuses on cultural exchange through schools and families. There are more than 1600 German and American high schools participate in the program The Theodore-Goethe partnership is the oldest in Alabama. Theodore and Goethe were made partners because of our Degussa connection. Degussa is one of Theodore High�s corporate sponsors, and its headquarters were in Frankfurt until recently.
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;Theodore High School and the Goethe Gymnasium are celebrating their 20th year as partners. This is the 14th time that the schools have had exchanges. More than 200 students of the Goethe Gymnasium have come to Mobile in that time to enjoy our beautiful city and beaches and our hospitality.   Orange Grove Community Development Corporation to Host its Inaugural  Kids� Night Out</title>
  <description>Organized in 1992, the Orange Grove CDC was established to foster economic development and community empowerment in Mobile County through the development and implementation of grassroots initiatives including affordable housing, small business assistance, coalition building and effective parenting programs.

&lt;br&gt;This year, the OGCDC has partnered with the Mobile County Police Department, the Mobile County Sheriff�s Office, area churches and other corporate sponsors to put on a night of fun that safe for the entire family. There will be �Trunk of Treating�, food, games, music and a gospel soundstage featuring Mobile�s own local talent and hosted by Sherman �Big Show� Tate.
