This exhibit is a collective set of accidents and mistakes, of images disrupted, of spontaneous signifiers. Followers of Lorenzo’s work will notice that each piece is titled with a word or two – a marked departure from her pattern of leaving works numbered or dated. Lorenzo says, “The series is a set of traditional and universal symbols but are also personal talismans to move ahead in life”. This show is made possibly with support from the Japan Foundation, Manila.

Release by Isa Lorenzo opens at 6PM in 20Square, Slab Gallery on November 18, Wednesday and runs until December 12. It opens simultaneously with Grain by Rachel Rillo at Silverlens Gallery. Artist Talk will be held on November 21, Saturday, 3-5pm at Silverlens Gallery.

A meditation on the elusive gestures of form and material - the nuanced expression, the violent confrontation, the abandoned and scarred. It is a reflection of the disjunctive spaces between symbolism and spirituality, memory and possession. Rachel Rillo opens her latest photography exhibit, Grain, on November 18, 6PM at Silverlens Gallery.

Her latest work is a meditation on paring things down to their material source: plaster, wood, plastic. Objects photographed are small figures that are visual representations of something real. With the use of light alone, Rillo intentionally alters and deletes backgrounds and other contextual hints. Size, the environment and any other relationship the object photographed could have outside of the material from which it is made and what it symbolizes has been negated.

The exhibit will run until December 5 and be simultaneously on view with Release by Isa Lorenzo at 20Square Gallery.

Rocks For Relief

Foreign artist Katy Perry will be helping the survivors of the typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng as she Rocks for Relief this weekend turning her concert into a fundraiser for the cause. Despite’s Boys Like Girls cancellation on opening the show due to schedule conflict, other big artists joined in making the concert even bigger that it already is! Arnel Pineda and Neal Schon of Journey, the American rock band MAE and our very own Jed Madela will be supporting Katy Perry’s cause and are also the show’s special guests. All net proceeds of the concert will be donated to the Philippine National Red Cross, the concert’s sole beneficiary. The concert would also be an avenue for people to drop off their donations as it houses booths specifically intended for it.
