Summer '17 we collaborated with BOOGIE ON THE BOULEVARD 2017 to organize community runs. We took over the grand concourse on the last Sunday during the Summer months. Made possible by New York City Department of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program with support from Building Healthy Communities, and is organized by The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx Neighborhood Health Action Center of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, BxArts Factory, BronxWorks, and Bronx Health REACH in partnership with a volunteer committee of Bronx residents. Special shout out to all the running groups that came thru and showed love: Boogie Down Bronx Runners, BX Sole, Miles Stylers & WRU CREW.

Coquito Masters Competition

Season Kick-Off

Saturday, October 14 | 7:00PM

The Boogie Down welcomes coquito season with the Coquito Masters competition! This event, in collaboration with the International Coquito Federation, will feature the borough's most innovative coquito-makers. Visitors will sample different coquito recipes and enjoy a comedy set by Puerto Rican comedian & journalist Bill Santiago. The event will also feature performances by special guests, including rappers #Circa95, musician #BobbySanabria, poets Nancy Mercado & Carmen Bardeguez-Brown, and b-girl/singer ROKAfella, among others. The BMHC will be collecting donations for Puerto Rico hurricane relief efforts, to be donated to the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA). JFA relief will help musicians on the island who have lost their homes, instruments, and livelihoods.

This summer we were invited to perform and present a workshop for the Young Ambassadors program with the Smithsonian Latino Center.  The Smithsonian Latino Center’s Young Ambassadors Program (YAP) is a nationally recognized program for graduating high school seniors that fosters the next generation of Latino leaders in the arts, sciences, and humanities via the Smithsonian Institution and its resources. 24 Young people from 17 cities in the United States including Puerto Rico are chosen for this prestigious program. We were thrilled to present on the topic of Cultural Identity. Bringing our passion for Hip-Hop culture to Washington D.C. Thank you for inviting us Smithsonian! 

We also got a chance to check out Ai WeiWei's art show on opening day at the Hirshhorn Museum and sculpture garden.

We were invited and decided to participate in the most awesome weekend - BEEN TRAIL. A weekend in Mt. Beacon, NY. Sleeping in tents provided by Columbia, eating all plant based locally grown foods and exploring the concept of trail running. We had a workshop to learn more about the native cultures and trails in the mountain, as well as got an opportunity to plant some corn in the community garden. Thanks Knox and everyone that helped BEEN TRAIL happen. It was an incredible experience to sleep under the moon and stars, run along deer and flying hawks and connect in a deeper way with the people in the running community. Experiences like this are what make running really special for us. So enjoy the pics and recap video. Looking forward to next year - BEEN TRAIL !

Last week in our Circa'95 life... we did a week long concert series at Carnegie Hall called Musical Explorers. A culmination of a wonderful project we collaborated on with other bands/musicians. Bringing music to students in Elementary school throughout the tri-state area.

It was such an amazing experience and we had the wonderful opportunity to bless the stage with Calypso singer ETIENNE CHARLES and Armenian singers ZULAL. NBC news came thru and did a special report on what went down. Check it out!

Props to everyone that came to Run, Bike or Cheer at the 10th Anniversary of the Red Hook Crit! It was an amazing night to celebrate all the athletes coming together to encourage and motivate each other to go further than we have gone before. Patty Dukes ran the 5k with a bunch of amazing women. The course was tough and the heat was on. Patty still was able to shave a minute off her 5k time.. holding it down in 26min. Catch you all at the next one, Brooklyn Half Marathon is coming soon.

It's the 10th anniversary of this infamous race.

Mostly known for the Urban Bike Race, they've added a 5k to this event

On Saturday 4/22/17 - Earth Day. We met up at 155th Street and Broadway, in front of Boricua College. Although it was raining, folks still came out for the long run. We did 6 miles, running from the Heights to East Harlem. Checking out some legendary spots along the way like the Cotton Club. Our final destination was El Barrio's Art Space @ PS 109 a fantastic building with gallery & performance spaces. Thanks to the folks at the BlotShop.Collective for the B.S Art Show - an art show & fundraiser benefiting the to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC. We had to come thru to check out our homegirl Marthalicia's art. We love her work and always support the arts! Thanks to Dyckman Beer for the brews. We had a great time! More adventures to come....

Last Saturday, Nov 12th - @Circa95 hosted StoryTime @ WordUp Books in Washington Heights. Together we curated a special event for kids. Thanks to Pick & Eat for providing an awesome healthy breakfast and @Wrucrew for the support. The kids loved it! We read children's stories, then led a warm up and ran 2miles together. Parents and kids running together. Each child got a chance to pick out a book to take home at the end of the run. It was a wonderful experience to bring kids, parents and friends together for a Saturday morning read and run. We took the kids to one of our favorite uptown spots - Highbridge Park. We explored the trees, solar panels and birds. Once we made it on the bridge we had a Hawk sighting. It flew right over us. Spreading its wings. It was a magical moment for the kids to see mother nature in their backyards. Many had never been to the bridge, let alone see a Hawk up close! We hope to continue to do more special events for kids. We love the energy and hope kids have. They are the future! Enjoy some pics from our adventure. For fun we called it the #ReadingRainbowRun because as children we loved the Reading Rainbow Television show! It was a great way to get access to books. It was an awesome day in Williamsburg.
Afterwards we all headed to Pies & Thighs for some food.
