Church fundraisers have one common goal: to generate further funds and have a profitable fundraising program. The act of brainstorming altogether

As you work as a team, there may be some designations of who’s in charge of this and that and who’s going to take up the position of being leader. But, this does not give anyone the license to solely think and decide of the entire details of the fund raising project. Remember, you’re a team and you should be working, deciding and choosing which ones will be best for the project, for the church and its other beneficiaries.

Spark a friendly and encouraging competition

This can be done with all the members involved. You can provide friendly competitions to each group who can come up with the best idea. This way, all members and groups for that matter are motivated in providing their inputs.

Although, you are dealing with church fundraisers, it is still of prime importance to turn up a program that will give every people the reason to patronize and take part. However, a believer has to keep in mind that no matter what programs and events the church holds, supporting every church’s works should come as an utmost priority.

Church youth group fundraisers along with other organizers of this particular project should develop the sense of responsibility and liability. This means that even those members who have little participation should see their tasks as major ones thereby having equal accountability to both disappointment and success of each fundraising project.

Church fundraisers are meant for the church and its ministry’s work. Thus, you need to take into account that anything you do is for the genuine purpose of serving the church and most importantly serving your Creator.

BACKGROUND: On Friday September 24, 2010, a 6 Alarm fire burned for hours in the top floors of a Toronto Community Housing Apartment Tower located at 200 Wellesley Street in St James Town.

Resulting in upwards of 1,700 residents being displaced and remaining homeless. Many of the displaced are families with young children and people with special needs. Residents have been denied access to their apartments to retrieve essentials including personal ID, clothes or medication. The Wellesley Community Centre located directly across from 200 Wellesley has evolved into a makeshift shelter. Some refer to the situation as a refugee camp in the heart of the city.

RESPONSE: On the Friday evening of the Wellesley Fire, local community members and concerned Torontonians began using online social media tools, specifically the #WellesleyFire hashtag on Twitter.com, to self-organize food, support, relief, updates, and donations. The response was almost immediate. Amidst the organizational chaos and information vacuum, social media was a tool used by volunteers who stepped up to bring order on that first night.

Following in the footsteps of the successful #HoHoTO and #HaiHaiTO local twitter campaigns for Daily Bread Food Bank and Haiti Earthquake Relief respectively, #WellesleyFire is organizing the First BIG #WellesleyFire Fundraiser.

FUNDRAISING: There is an urgent need to help the 1,700 plus now homeless people. Specifically in understanding the reality of affected residents by listening to them speak directly what has not been reported. Also by accepting donations by way of Gift Cards. Cash donations to Displaced Residents may negatively impact many who are on social assistance. Donations via Gift Cards do not. All cash donations will be converted into Gift Cards. We will have audited transparency in the collection and distribution of all Gift Card donations.

You can pass out flyers to various businesses and organizations and they may get involved- I know Chic Fil A is a Christian organization. However, many businesses do their own philanthropic work and may not get involved with your church fundraiser.

I’ve been heavily involved with nonprofit fund raising for years….so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your cause…

1) Consider a mail campaign – depending on how many mailing addresses you have, you never know how many people might respond to your cause and just write you a check! This works amazingly well for several organizations that are short on time AND resources.

2) Consider running an online auction – this is an AWESOME way to get to the people whose mailing addresses you don’t have (ie you’ve got their EMAILS)…your email base can feel like they’re using their expendable income on great stuff AND its going to their community at the same time!
I’ve included a link of one of the online auction companies that I’ve worked with…cMarket. They also have another website, BiddingforGood.com, that opens your auction up to all their members so that people who you don’t even know can donate to your cause and bid on your items!

3) Instead of having a garage sale at your home, try having a "garage" sale on eBay! Think of it as a virtual way to get rid of some stuff AND make a little more money…(make sure you include the cost of shipping those items online or else you’ll end up losing money!).

4) Have a fundraising event – give people in your community something to look forward to, and host a gala….you can sell tickets, have an auction, raffle prizes, etc that will give your community something to look forward to AND a perfect opportunity to donate to something they care about.

5) One last tid bit – consider selling sponsorships for your event…this can help off set some of your cost INCREDIBLY. You’d be surprised how many local businesses want to be a part of your cause-minded event! You can ask for anywhere around $500 per sponsor, and if you put your auction online, you can ask for even more than that because they’ll be getting just that much more exposure through your website and event emails!
