The Return of Johnny Hotwire

Frew and Egmont readers may remember the Johnny Hotwire series of stories that came out 2004 as part of the Year One story arc. Well, it seems Johnny is set to return. Egmont artis Sal Velluto has posted an image of Johnny on his blog from a forthcomming story starting the young 21st Phantom's alter ego.

Original Phantom Statues!

If collecting unique items is your thing, then some awesome, phan made statues may just be your cup of jungle juice. Ridiculously talented phan Giovanni (PhantomBR on the forums) has built some absolutely beautiful Phantom sculptures which have also been hand painted.

Thus far Giovanni has three statues available; The Phantom Shooting, The Phantom Standing ($2000US each) and New Phantom which is a special statues limited to only 30 pieces.

CC sent Giovanni an e-mail asking about availability of the statues we received the following response;

The Phantom shooting and standing with higher or lower base cost USD200.00 + sh each one (you choose the base you want and color you want).

The New Phantom is a special statue and are limited in 30 pieces. This piece is numbered, dated and signed by sculptor, Gabriel Luna, a friend of mine.

I can sell with payment on my paypal account, this is secure to both, seller and buyer.

I need 10 business days to prepair a statue.

I sold Phantom statues to whole world, USA, France, Austria, Australia.

We strongly recommend our readers to check out the New World Encyclopedia article about the Phantom's creator, Lee Falk. It provides a great deal of interesting information previously unknown to most of his fans.

In it, you can among other things read about how Falk raised his children, his work in the theatre, the creation of the Phantom, and how Falk almost got sued by Adolf Hitler!

Julie Featured in Previews

Previews, the comic book catalogue, is featuring Moonstone's Julie Walker: Race Against Death one-shot on their website this month (and most probably in the catalogue as well). The issue is available for pre-order in this month's edition of Previews (NOV, 2009) which should be in comic stores very soon so you can place your orders.

While the feature on the Previews site doesn't give us any new information about the book it's great to see it getting the attention it deserves.

ChronicleChamber Gallery Returns

Those of you who have visited CC before its latest incantation using Blogger might remember that the site originally had a gallery. Well, the gallery is back!

Due to the large number of interesting images that we've come across in the time this site has been around I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where people can easily view those images rather than having to find the corresponding news or forum post.

Keeping with the Joe-is-too-poor-to-pay-for-anything nature of this site the gallery will be hosted on Photobucket. You can access the gallery HERE, by clicking on the text link in the menu to the left or the sideshow preview on the right.

The gallery itself will have sub-sections for cover images, stills from movies and TV, photos from the CC Meet Up (and any future Meet Ups) and photos of Phan's collections.

As with everything here on CC, I'd like to encourage visitor participation in the gallery. If you have some photos you'd like to add of your own collection or images of interesting Phantom things please e-mail them to us and they shall be added.

I feel I should stress that this gallery will not be replacing PhanWorks in any way. PhanWorks is its own beast and all the awesome phan-created works will remain there.

I hope everyone enjoys the new gallery, please feel free to leave any thoughts or comments here or on the forums.

Mystery Frew Cover

Over on his blog Egmont artist Sal Velluto has posted an image of a newly painted work by Frew cover artist Antonio Lemos. There is no mention of which issue the image will be appearing on, but there is no denying it's a beautiful image. Here is what Sal says in his blog;

Here's a beautiful illustration of The Phantom painted by Frew's cover artist Antonio Lemos.

Antonio just e-mailed it to me, along with some images of his other works.
Antonio's talents as a portrait artist and cartoonist are excellent. However, his control of the acrylic medium, in my opinion, is one of his strongest points.
I hope I'll be able to collaborate with this great artist, in the near future.

Phantom Collection Delayed

According to Amazon, Hermes Press' The Phantom: The Complete Newspaper Dailies Volume 1: 1936-1938 has been delayed and will now be released on December 15th, 2009 rather than on the 14th of this month as previously reported. Anyone who has already placed a pre-order need not worry as the delay will not affect your order.

Despite this, the second volume of Hermes' collection is already listed on Amazon and available for pre-order. The second volume is currently slated for release on March 15, 2010. It is currently listed for $26.39US ($28.69AU).

I've also added the first and second volumes of the Hermes collections to the Strips page. There is also a new Series Groups list so you can switch between the daily, Sunday and collection strips easily.

Phantom Diary 2010

Mallon Publishing, who have delivered beautiful Phantom diaries for the last number of years, has just released information on their 2010 diary. Forum member Geaghs brought this to our attention so rather than me babble on, here is his eloquent report;

The 2010 Phantom Diary is now available for purchase from Mallon Publishing. Once again the first 170 copies brought direct from the publisher will be accompanied by a Phantom bookmark, this year showing a detail from the cover of Moonstone #25. The Quiz is also back and the prize this year in a Phantom Lamp.

The cost is $29.95 AUD plus postage.

Postage is as follows; $8.00 AUD within Australia, $11.00 AUD New Zealand, $15.00 AUD elsewhere Overseas for up to 4 diaries. This can be paid by Cheque or Money Order.

Hermes' Phantom Collection Out SOON!

Herme's Phantom strip collection is out very soon, and while it's been available for pre-order on Amazon for a while, the book is actually released in a few short days, the 14th of this month, to be exact, and should be in stores close to that date (Australian and European stores may get it a few days later.) However, with the Aussie dollar being so strong at the moment it might still be worth getting the book from there if you live Down Under. As for the rest of the world, the Amazon discount is still pretty good!

Phantom #5 released in Italy

The fifth issue of Eura Editoriale's new Phantom series was released in Italy on September 25th. The four Team Fantomen stories that appear in this 132-page b/w issue are:

"Queen Pera the Perfect" by Ulf Granberg, Felmang and Ferri (adapted from a Sunday story by Lee Falk and Ray Moore)
*"The Wreck in Bengali Bay" by Donne Avenell, Felmang, Ferri and Benny
*"Kingdom of the Amazons" by Scott Goodall, Felmang and Ferri
*"Death of a Phantom" by David Bishop and César Spadari

The cover is by Ferri and has previously been published by Egmont.

Unfortunately, we have also received confirmation that the series will end with #6 released on October 25. Poor sales are cited as the reason for the cancellation. There is some speculation that Eura might publish some Phantom stories in their anthology comics Lanciostory, but this is not confirmed yet.

If you want to add these comics to your collection and/or show your support for Eura's attempt to bring the Phantom back to Italy, you can buy all issues from Eura's website for only 3 Euro each (postage not included).

Fantomen Christmas Album 2009 announced

The 66th annual Fantomen Christmas Album has been announced in Sweden. At this very moment, thousands of Swedish children are going door-to-door with this year's Christmas catalogue featuring books, films, calendars and of course - comics! To sell products from the Christmas catalogue is traditionally a way for Swedish children to start earning money (or gift premiums). Today there are (at least) three competing catalogues with different contents.

The Phantom is one of the oldest comics that are part of the Christmas Catalogue line-up. It is being sold in the catalogue from Jultidningsförlaget, the oldest and biggest Christmas cataloge. Click here
