Google glass is a wearable computer by Google which has the ability to capture the world as you see it in real time and share it to anyone you want.

Google glass is like a head up display in a fighter aircraft, which can present information such as directions how to get somewhere right in front of you, superimposed on the real world.

It gives you all the information you need such as translations, flight times etc either on the display or in your ear without the device getting in the way of your life, or without people knowing what you are doing.

you may have seen the TV series knight rider where a car called KITT drives itself around America, KITT driving ability came from TV special effects, the car in the video below is real, and was developed by The Mobile Robotics Group of the University of Oxford

The brain of the car is an Ipad and the car, can even sense people walking in the road this makes the car stop

just finished reading a cool article on the new way people are conning us and I think you should read it as well, here is idea, (quote from Make Use Of magazine)

Untreated, this virus will steal all of your personal data, credit card numbers and all, and will then proceed to spread to your loved ones and other contacts, wreaking havoc on their lives. Oh, and it will also ruin your computer. If you’re reluctant to believe, the technician can easily prove it. He shows you how to open your Windows Event Viewer. Those errors you see there? That’s the virus right there; conclusive evidence. Fortunately, the technician is here to help. If you could just let him assume remote control over your computer for a few minutes, they would make all of this go away….for a modest fee, of course."

sounds OK doesn't it, wrong this a scam, as you read it the quote above, it starts with a so called it engineer calling you and it ends with you parting with lots of money for nothing, the thing you need to remember about this is, IT Engineers don't usually call people up, you call them. read the article from Make Use Of magazine, below and find out how to stop it happening to you

Data Protection Act 1998

The Data Protection Act 1998 came into being, to update a previous act. This was to comply with the European Rights Convention, Article 8 – giving people the right of privacy. If any size company collects information about people, in particularly personnel information such as credit card number, address, name, telephone number etc, you must follow the data protection guidelines.

You must say what the data is for and why you collect it (this you must stick to and not use the data for any other purpose).
You must register your data collection system with the information commission.
Personnel data about people must be lawfully obtained
Data held must be must be accurate.
You must show information stored about a person to the subject of that data and delete it, if told to by the subject of the data.
You should not give the information about people to anyone else without permission, except to police only if they need it prevent a crime or to catch a suspect or if they have a warrant.
You must prevent unauthorised access and processing of data (using appropriate security methods).
You must not allow personnel data to be accidentally lost, damaged or altered, (using appropriate security methods).

Penalties

As from April 2010 any company that breaks the act can be fined up to £500,000 dependant on the seriousness of the breach.

Computer Misuse Act 1990

The computer misuse act was started to stop a loop hole in the law, after two people broke into the British Telecom's Prestel computer system and Prince Philip’s message box in 1985.

This Act states you should not:-

Access computers which you are unauthorised to access.
Access computers which you are unauthorised to access, to cause damage or perform other crimes with the information you obtained illegally.
Modify computers or data you, do not have the right to access.

Penalties

Access computers which you are Unauthorized Access, is called a summary offence and penalties are limited to 6 months imprisonment and/or a maximum fine of £5000.
Access computers which you are unauthorized to access, to cause damage or perform other crimes with information obtained illegally is a serious crime and carries jail terms of up to 5 years and unlimited fines.
Modify computers or data you, do not have the right to access is again a serious crime and carries a jail terms of up to 5 years and unlimited fines.

Computer and Data security

You must protect your computer against things that can damage it and the data on it

How can we protect computer systems?

Not making passwords too easy to guess.
Backing up data on computer systems.
Using Antivirus/Malware/Spyware checkers (Make sure the spyware /malware/ antivirus software is not fake, to be on safe side use a known one like Kaspersky, Norton, MacAfee (paid), Microsoft Essentials (free) MalwareBytes (good Professional checker).
Use firewalls, this blocks unauthorized access to your computer.
When you move away from Computer/workstations Lock it (ctrl-alt-del, Lock Computer)
Using a Uninterruptible Power Supply (ups)(battery backup that prevents computer being damage due to power cuts).
Using surge protection.
Erasing Data on Hard Drives before disposing.

BBC News. “Medical records, confidential letters and X-rays of patients in Lanarkshire have been found on second-hand computer hard drives”. BBC News.

Laptops and Security

One of the worst areas for data getting out is data on laptops, below is a list of things to do to secure your business laptop

Not Leaving your Password with your Laptop Case.
Be careful what Data you put on your Laptop.
Encrypt your laptop.
use screen shield (prevents the laptop screen being view from side).
Use Laptop desk lock when one is available (device you can use to lock the laptop to a desk).
Don’t leave the laptop lying Around .

You may have said to yourself how can God use me, don’t rule yourself out from god using you, you can make a difference in some ones life.

God wants you to be the difference in some ones life no matter how small it is.

One day, a man was walking along the beach; he looked up and saw someone moving like a dancer. The movements intrigued him and he walked closer to take a better look.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man and he wasn’t dancing at all but bending down and throwing things into the sea.

“Good morning!” he said. “May I ask what you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and said “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back in, they’ll die.”

“Young man, do you realise that there is miles and miles of beach with hundred’s of starfish along the way? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “I made a difference to that one!”
