Sidenote: Betty is our photographer friend who is our go-to when we need photos of us. She kinda rocks. Well, more than kinda. She rocks a lot!

Proof of that? We opened the box to find a gift that went straight to my heart. If you ever hear my “How did you get into photography?” story, it starts when I was about 5 and my parents bought me a blue Mickey Mouse 110 film camera while on family vacation at Disney World. I feel like I almost sent our family into bankruptcy buying film and making prints. There started my love for making photographs.

The box contained a PINK Mickey Mouse 110 film camera JUST LIKE MINE!!! I mean the exact one! I couldn’t believe it.

I am proudly displaying this in Eliana’s room. And only a few more days until she gets here!

GO SEE PART 1: Their wedding in Tampa.

I knew three things: This wedding was going to be fun! We were in for a treat–the authentic Cuban dishes.  It was going to be done big and done well.

I was completely right.

Candi’s dad spent the year leading up the wedding building a gazebo for the wedding. It was magnificent. His home was one of the most beautiful wedding sites we’ve had the pleasure of photographing. He totally transformed his home into a banquet hall. And the family who pitched in should receive credit as well for their incredible work.

As you scroll, pay attention to the Cuban Limo, the bride who NEVER stops smiling, ever, halved oranges, the fabulous DIY-ness, and the incredible fun that was had.

About the oranges: You may remember their Jekyll Island engagement session from 2010. In the photos you’ll see quite a few halved oranges. There is an old Spanish saying regarding soul mates being “two halves of the same orange” – something so true of them. It was a key feature of their decorating. I’m even pretty proud of myself for the rings photo on the oranges.

It was a super-cool location with a couple clearly in love… a perfect combination in my books.

I always get excited when the Goldstones ask us to photograph their family again. Between their last session and this one they moved a couple hours away. It was so great to be asked to come join them up there for a session! We LOVE traveling out of the area to sessions. The new places bring out something new in our creativity.

We don’t often have the opportunity to both shoot at the same time. Many of our sessions, like those at the beach, are in difficult environmental situations where Amanda’s job is to keep our flash from flying away. So having her able to shoot in perfect situations like this is a blessing. I love getting back to the office and downloading her images to see what kind of crazy cool images she made.

After a bit of dreaming about having Mallory’s senior session at Sea World, we checked back into reality and decided on the beautiful Jekyll Island!

I did my first family portrait that involved a computer and the family 4000 miles away.

The wedding planner and officiant, Carla, of St Simons Elopements, also helped out with some finishing touches to Carly’s hair by adding some beautiful flowers from The Flower Basket.

And then out to the beach to get married!

The spot where Carly and Gyver chose to get married at Driftwood Beach was almost like a natural cathedral.

After photos on the beach, we headed to the historic district toward the majestic oak trees.
