On Friday, August 26, 2011 as Hurricane Irene was heading up the coast to New England, Joe and I enlisted our friends Josh and Jeff to take a road trip to Montreal, Canada.

Winter in Boston 2011

God must have decided that the Floridians needed a real show for their first winter in Boston. Well He came through with a great one... as long as you didn't have to get out in it.

Our first winter here in New England was one of the harshest the area had seen in a while. While shoveling and driving in the snow was no fun, the scenery after the snow was amazing. Just take a look.

On Saturday, June 12, many of my wonderful friends from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts threw me a surprise going-away party. I have such wonderful friends here, and I can't wait until they visit us in Boston.

On Saturday, June 12, many of my wonderful friends from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts threw me a surprise going-away party. Not only did they get a great group of my friends together, but they also included my parents. Then as a special surprise, Joe showed up unexpectedly from Boston!!

Tammy Tuschhoff also brought tears to my eyes with a wonderful photo tribute, including baby pictures, photos of our wedding, and of course, all of our wonderful friends.

Joe found us this beautiful apartment in Medford Massachusetts, just 4 miles north of Boston.

Joe found us this beautiful apartment in Medford Massachusetts, just 4 miles north of Boston. Joe has been a trooper, having to live in the apartment for over a month with no furniture other than an inflatable mattress, a borrowed card table, a tv, coffee maker, and George Forman grill. It will take a bit more time (and furniture movers) to make it a home, but Joe did a wonderful job finding this place.

I'm looking very forward to joining him there in our new home.

Our trip to Savannah

Joe and I decided to visit Savannah as our Valentine's Day activity. It was a short trip, but filled with a lot of fun. We had an opportunity to see many of the locations from the movies Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Forrest Gump. Our trip also included a visit to see the Lady Chablis (from Midnight fame) as well as Paula Deen's restaurant The Lady & Sons.

Trip to Michigan - August 2009

Chris and Joe's photo gallery from their trip to Michigan to see the family.

On August 7, Joe and I flew to Detroit to visit with his family, and see our new nephew Mason James Black (Born July 27). Our flight was fairly uneventful, but took up most of our Friday. Once we had checked into our hotel, we went and visited the Somerset Mall, which was just amazing, and had dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen. (Really wish we had a C.P.K. in Jacksonville, by the way.)

North Carolina Vacation Day 2 - Jet Skiing on Lake Chatuge

On July 3, 2009 the Allen family took to the water. We rented a pontoon boat and SeaDoo to spend the day on Lake Chatuge on the Georgia-North Carolina border.

North Carolina Vacation Day 1 - Tubing in Helen, Georgia

So the extended Allen family vacation officially began today, July 2, with a trip tubing down the Chattahoochee River near Helen, Georgia. It turns out that the term "river" was quite an exageration, as our butts were mostly dragging along the bottom -- that is, when we weren't stuck in rocks.

Tomorrow, we rent pontoon boats and Jet Skis to spend the day on Lake Chatuge.
