Which are the Safest Water Bottles for our Family?

Once again I am confronted with these questions: Is technology always for the best? Are their products for our benefit or just to make a few billion dollars out of us this year?
Do companies put as it risk with dangerous products on purpose or is it just inadvertently?

I don't have all the answers but I have decided to keep the "?" on everything I will buy from now on. Many times, not even the products sold at a Health Food Store are really that safe.

Like I always repeat to my readers and viewers: "WE NEED TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR LIFE AND OUR MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS". I know! I Know! where do we get the right information to make informed decisions????!!(&^ This my friend, is not an easy task, but we have to put our heart and commitment into it.

I have started my blogs with this purpose, sharing the information I found most appropriate at a certain point in my life. Believe me! My search and my walk on the information rally will not be stopping anytime soon.

One of the BEST places for great information is "THE SOFT LANDING". WOW!! I simply did not know!!!!

We have been talking for a while on the importance of avoiding BPA products and it just so happen that one of the things we thought were a good substitute for regular plastic water bottles is also leaching BPA into our water.

Dr. Ted Herrmann, DMD Holistic Dentist in MOMTV

This past Friday we had a wonderful hour at MOMTV with Dr. Ted Herrmann, D.M.D. He is a super fun Holistic Dentist from the Miami area whom I have had the pleasure to meet.

After starting looking for holistic practitioners in our area, I came across his Practice. Let me tell you! He is my kind of Doc! As I had mentioned before, what I loved the most was his approach to my health as a WHOLE and not just as Mouth full of teeth = $$$. Since I stepped into his office I felt at peace, received by happy friendly staff, and guided by the hand (almost literally) through the process of my exam and treatment. I have learned more about my dental care in 3 weeks that what I had in 35 years!

Autism Undone!

Last night I had the great honor of having a good friend as a Guest Speaker on my Show at MomTv. Her name is Gina Laverde and her story and life journey are a great example of determination and conviction.

After her son, started showing symptoms of Autism and was later on diagnosed with this illness, all of her efforts were directed into CURING her son's AUTISM.

She researched day and night until she found a solution that little by little brought her son back to her. She could see into his eyes again, she was able to enjoy his hugs and smiles one more time. He started to be himself and feel happier and more calm each day.

The changes were not immediate, it certainly took time, but the results to this day are incredible!

Last night she shared with us part of this journey and some of the dietary tools she has been utilizing to fight Autism over the past three years.

Every child is different, and the reasons that have induced Autism in their life may be different, but one there is one thing in common, "A toxic overload" hindering their bodies abilities to fight what is making them ill" . There are treatments for Autism, but we as parents need to observe and understand how are children react to their foods and their environment. We need to research, ask and try different options until we find what works for them.

Gina, did all of the above and found what worked best for her son. Today, Dougy is a happy boy, that engages in conversations, loves hugs and kisses and knows that his carrots need some Dip! I have seen him, I have talk to him and the joy and love they share is an example worth to follow.

How to Treat an Earache the Natural Way

With the flu and cold season many aches and pains affect our family's health and lately I have been hearing of Ear Infections left and right.

The last time I had to treat an ear infection was almost 5 years, with my eldest. Of course, the only route known to me at that point was to treat it with antibiotics. At that point the infections I thought was already pretty bad.

With more experience, more research and little bit of more curiosity, I started seeing a Holistic Pediatric M.D., Dr. Rydland and along the way I have learned tons of great things to minimize the use of antibiotics.

What do I do know? Here it is:

I use:

1. Regular Rubbing Alcohol

2. Colloidal Silver, either Argentyn 23 or Sovereign Silver (these are the best brands recommended by Dr. Rydland) and don't worry you won't turn gray or blue! and,

3. Kids Wellness: Ear Drops Formula

How do I use it:

At the first sign of an earache I put one drop of alcohol in each of their ears just to evaporate any left over water that may be in it.

Then, I put 3 drops of Colloidal Silver, and I let them rest for at least 10 minutes laying down on the opposite side. Then I repeat it in the other ear (just in case).

Lastly, I will put the recommended dose of Dr. Rydland's Ear Drop Formula, cover it up with a little bit of cotton and let them rest for as long as I can keep them still.

So far, 3 out 4 times, the pain stops within a very short time and infection does not progress. Their little bodies fight it, and they are able to build immunities and heal properly.

Of course, close monitoring of symptoms and fever is a MUST. Please, do consult your Doctor if symptoms do not improve and remember! This is only my personal experience and the things that have worked for my family.

"The Classy Closet Swap"

I have to tell you! I found this great community of moms and bloggers at Jen Hinton's website, "The Classy Closet" and it has been an incredibly fun adventure. I have not only found great information but also beautiful friendships.

Jen had another fun idea and this was of pairing some us to do a blog swap. I loved the idea! It is like going to have coffee and cookies to a friend's home and be received with hugs and laughs.

The guest in my home this month is Lauren from "Hyperactive LU". When I visited her blog for the first time, I knew the reason why our paths crossed! She blogs, she sews and she wears her babies! Cool!!

Now, I want to invite all of you to come and have some coffee and cookies with us. We want to share Lu's guest post at Chic Mommy USA's home and also continue sharing some of our experiences in motherhood and life.

Fell Head Over Hills.... In More Ways Than One

I fell head over heels in love in December 2007. Not only did we welcome our newest member to the family, Little Peanut, but also, I was oficially a baby wearing mama. Baby wearing was something so foreign and exciting to me. To be able to wear your baby- comfortably- and still have hands free! What an idea! I couldn't wait to try it out!

I had tried a "normal" baby carrier with my oldest son, Bubbie, but we could never get it to "fit" just right on my body. Hubbie tried it once while we were out of town and that was hilarious- those carriers are NOT made for a larger framed man! We eventually gave up trying.

Around the time I found out that I was expecting Peanut, I found Stephanie's blog over at Adventures in Babywearing and I was intrigued! I couldn't wait to do the same thing with my new baby. I researched different types of slings. I wrote Stephanie MANY emails. My sister in law, Jana, and I chatted about what type of slings we liked the look of and wished we could get our hands on some of these slings and test them out before buying them.

I was so desperate for information on this "new idea". I eventually figured out that babywearing was NOT new.... I guess I had just lived in a bubble and never seen it. It is stil very rare around our town, but becoming more and more popular.

So, from Stephanie's suggestions, I got a ring sling. I purchased a "mom made" ring sling off of Ebay and then also bought a Hotsling. Unfortunately, the Hotsling wasn't made for me. I tried and tried. I think I purchased the wrong size. I could never get Peanut in without feeling like I was suffocating him. I tried the same cradle hold in the ring sling with no success. I wrote Stephanie and asked her about other types of holds. She told me that perhaps a chest to chest hold in the ring sling would work better. We tried that and SUCCESS! Peanut loved it. I loved it. It was a beautiful bonding time. I could lean down and kiss that soft, furry head of Peanuts and still have 2 hands to help and play with Bubbie or cook!

Once we mastered the ring sling, we saw the Sleepy Wrap on a review blog. I quickly purchased it and were thrilled when it arrived. The Sleepy Wrap is very similar to the Moby Wrap. I actually don't know if anything is different about the two. The Sleepy Wrap is made out of a stretchy cotton and wraps around your body to hold your child. It is absolutely a fabulous idea and works wonders. Every time I put Peanut in it, he was absolutely the happiest and most content child. I wore that thing EVERYWHERE! I would sling Peanut in it for longer grocery trips and put Bubbie in the front of the grocery buggy. I had one child tied to me and two free hands to help the other. Even Hubbie could join in the babywearing fun with the Sleepy Wrap. It is so long that I think one-size fits all or at least the majority. Hubbie wore Peanut a lot when we went on family outings. The sleepy wrap quickly replaced my ring sling and became the sling of choice in our family.

Then, when I had thought I had seen all there was to see about slings, I won a fabulous contest and the prize was a sling! A brand new ring sling from Nonny and Boo (who have now closed down). I never knew that ring slings were so fabulous. I was able to wear Peanut in it for a few short months before I found out that I was expecting Baby Bean and no longer felt like carrying another child. The ring sling from Nonny and Boo has been a wonderful addition to my sling collection. I love the thickness of the fabric. I love that I don't have to adjust it constantly, like my other ring sling. I holds Peanut's weight- 25lbs or heavier.

So, there you have it, my baby wearing experience! I have loved the bonding that comes from baby wearing. I love the ease and convienence. I love that it isn't difficult to do. I cannot wait until I can start babywearing again with my newest son, Baby Bean, due in September.

We have been discussing in a few forums and shows at Momtv about the need of healthier ways to feed our families. Unfortunately, in the United States there has been a lack of self interest in knowing the quality of our foods. We have been accepting what the mass media has chosen as the best foods and we have ended up as one of the sickest Countries in the world! Can you believe this?

Thank Goodness! A new trend of Healthy Living has arise and more and more people are turning away from fast foods and industrially processed foods.

But then, we are faced with another challenge! It can be pretty costly to eat healthy. The price of all natural products, or organic products at the local Health Food Stores can raise your weekly expenses dramatically. So, how do we do it? Most of us are in an a tight budget and eating healthy can brake us for good. Do we settle for cheap unhealthy food?, or do we manage to find healthy organic foods at reasonable prices?

I have been thinking about bringing you every week tips and tricks to find the best Natural and Organic Products.

This week I want to bring some fun and easy links to get access to your local Farmer's Markets as well as as Organic Food Coops.

I love technology! And it looks that our farmers are getting in with the times too. This were my favorite links to find your local Farmers Markets by County (If you have the option of the County, go with it, you may find information on close areas that you did not have in mind).

FARMERS MARKET DOT COM This a fun website! They have been compiling a lot of information by State. Just click on your State and then scroll down until you find the closest one to you. At the end of each page you will see a link "MORE" click on it and it will take to more and more pages.

LOCAL HARVEST. This website has tons of information and it even has the option for you to purchase organic and natural products directly from it. Prices are still a little high but it also gives you the option to search for your local producers and farmers by State, City or Zip Code. Being closer to you, costs will be reduced.

USDA also offers a link to find your local Farmers Markets. Here I would recommend to do the search by County. Once again, it helps to extend your search to close by places you had not even thought of.

Now, I mentioned a great resource local Organic Foods Coops. I have personally save about half of what I used to spend on my organic produce through a local coop. It entitles to take home whatever comes in your "coop share", but so far it has been a happy healthy option for my family. I have been splitting my share in 3 portions, among my Sister in law, my mother in law and myself, and we have all plenty of great produce for a whole week.

How Did I Survive The Flu without Tylenol

As many of you know, I had some health issues at home last week. What I week I should say!

I have three kids under the age of 5 and I am by myself most of the time. Last week the Flu Bug got us, well, at least it got the three kiddos. What a nightmare! First it was my three year old daughter, then my five year old son and lastly my 6 month old baby daughter. Fever, stuffy or runny noses, body aches, non-stop coughing and "mommy mommy mommy" to last for an eternity.

Traditionally, many parents face moments like this and unfortunately, due to the times we live in, we need fast solutions to get everyone back to "some" health. So, the easiest way out of the flu virus is to run to the drug store and get either Tylenol, Motrin and all sort of cough syrups. I call this the "Easy Button" and we have all been guilty of using it at one point or another.

After beginning my journey on Alternative Medicine, new options started to pup up in front of me. I was surprised to realize that these Holistic Health options really worked! How is it that the mass media had not been promoting it this fantastic Natural Cures for the Flu? (Well I guess it does not behoove the pharmaceutical industry right?)

After my struggle with the flu I realized that I need to share what I know in order to help other parents find these amazing Natural Remedies for the flu season. Hey, they gotta work, my kids are up and running, no major asthma attacks, coughing did not develop into bronchitis, and most importantly I DID NOT GET SICK! Can you believe it! Well, I can! I have done it over and over and it works every time.

What is the secret? Old fashion home remedies, Homeopathy, Natural Herbal Remedies, fresh organic juices and rest.

Crazy? No, I don't think I am. Everything that I mentioned above works, it just takes some time, and as parents we are entitled to ask our kids care givers to offer the time they need to heal in moments like this (by this I mean nannies, day cares and even grandparents!)

I know, you are probably wondering what on earth I am using, and I can tell you that I am using a lots of things.

First of all I use two of my favorite Immune System Boosters: Colloidal Silver and Family Immune Formula. (Don't worry you are not going to turn blue like the Oprah Blue Guy! This was an extreme case of homemade colloidal silver improperly used). As soon as I see the kids with the first symptoms, I started them on an intensive treatment, appropriate amount per age and weight, 3 times a day of each of the above.

In addition, I continue their daily regimen of DHA supplements,and multivitamins but try to increase their Vitamin C intake, as well as their Vitamin D (obtained through sun light exposure).

Ha! wait a little more to do. Homeopathic treatments are simply fantastic. I usually give them oscillococcinum. You can find the pediatric and adult formulas easily either over the internet or at your local Health Food Store.

And with all this and that, my mom's home made chicken soup and warm fresh lemonade. Some way some how Natural Holistic Remedies work to help your family get over a flu. We just need to let the body build its own defenses and fight for good. This over the counter pain killers and cough medications, only stop the symptoms but the real thing is still lingering in your family's bodies waiting to get you back through another venue.

In my case! this is I what always do: Start Colloidal Silver 3 times a day, Airborne every four hours. I also continue my Fish Oil, B Complex and most importantly Immunity Formula I from Shaklee. All I felt was some sneezing and scratchy throat but they soon faded away.

I have to be honest, it was not easy, I had to be right on schedule with everything, and there as a fair share of crying and fever, but the effort is well worth it. Right now, they are happy, healthy and rambunctious. I have not had to run to the hospital for excessively high fevers or bad asthma episodes and I am super happy with the results.

I know everyone's journey is different, but I certainly hope that my experience will help you at least to make a an easier and informed decision, find some alternatives and achieve Health Naturally.

What an amazing night we had yesterday!!

As I had shared with you before, Dr.Eric Rydland, M.D., is a Holistic Pediatrician with an incredible knowledge, a kind heart and a passion to help parents in achieving maximum health for their children.

He is a very busy physician with a Practice in the State of Virginia as well as in Florida. My Favorite Kids Multivitamin

If you have been looking for a Kid's Multivitamin that they WILL ACTUALLY EAT, and that would actually help them...I think you will like this.

My kids have spit up almost every other option I have given them, and when they didn't is because the multivitamins had High Fructose Corn Syrup.

In my search I have gone back and forth between brands, but now I am super excited to find out that Shaklee, has improved their Kids formula. Now, it is "Tooth Friendly and Taste Bud Friendly." It is also Gluten and Lactose Free.

The best part of all is that kids WILL EAT IT! Ha! When my kids ask me for Candy I will give them a ShakleeKids 'INCREDIVITES", so far they haven't complain and THEY DO KNOW THE REAL Candy!

Arts & Crafts: Hand Dyed Play Silks

My son attends a wonderful Waldorf Oriented School, in South West Miami that is simply a Little Heaven on Earth. They have so much fun learning while "playing among beautiful things". One of those beautiful things are Play Silks in different sizes and colors. It is so amazing to see how their imagination simply explodes in fabulous games, from pirates to princesses, from Kings to farmers. An infinite amount of possibilities.

Trying to find cool things to do this summer, we decided to get some blank silks from Dharma Trading Co. Got some supplies and started a new branch of our learning and our family business.

If you are crafty and want to give it a try, follow this How Make Play Silks Tutorial.

You will need the following:

1. Blank Silks in desired size. Usually 35"x 35", or 21"x 21". The larger ones can be used as canopies.
2. Different flavor Kool Aid, or food coloring (I prefer food coloring).
3. White Vinager (especially if you used food coloring. This would be the acid that helps the color set in.
4. Big deep pots and/or a disposable aluminum baking tray. If you want to do a rainbow silk, 3 or 4 glass or plastic jars would help.
5. Hot water. Here is where Parents' supervision is crucial.
6. Disposable gloves.

When I see the staggering and heart braking statistics of children suffering from Autism or Neurological disorders in this Country, I get so upset that I wish I could tower over the world and make it stop! But I am only a mom and I am certain that all my battles start at home, and this is what I am doing today!

According to the latest estimates, 1 in 67 children has Autism, 1 in 6 children suffers a developmental disorder, and 1 in 38 boys has Autism. Isn’t this the REAL PANDEMIC?????

It makes me laugh so hard when I see the “Swine Flu Pandemic” news! Are they being serious? The last one I heard was: “1 Million Cases Worldwide of Swine Flu! Beware! Vaccinate your family and be prepared!!!” Ha ha ha! Excuse me! But the World’s Population is over 6 Billion and growing! Isn’t 1 million like a 1% ???

Ok, let’s pause on this. Do you know that the CDC has estimated that each year in the United States 36,000 people will die of complications from the Regular Flu? So far this year, there has been only 87 deaths reported on the Swine Flu Issue. Don’t get me wrong! Every death is a loss and bigger or smaller numbers do not diminish their importance. What is wrong, and what I am criticizing is the approach of Authorities on our health issues. They are giving almost no importance to the outrageous numbers of children suffering from Autism and Development Disorders. It is not normal to suffer from this! It is not part of nature and we don’t just have to comply with the system and fold in without a word being said.

Moms! Dads! It is time to fight for our children’s future! It is time for us to take control of lives and their health. Health Care officials in United States are not helping us to stop the madness. They are just making us jump through the hoops of medical bureaucracy to assure that our children will have a long life of medical bills covered! This is not fair, this is not right and we have to say something!

For now, once again, our battles begin at home. We have kids to care for the best way we can. The road ahead has many possibilities, but we have to search proactively for them and choose the ones the better suit our family’s case. Here, is where I want to introduce you to a fantastic Mom that did not fold in after her son’s Autism diagnose. She started her own crusade to improve her son’s quality of life and so far, she has reached fantastic results! Changes do not come easy, but sometimes we have to do what we have to do for those we love. Her name is Gina Laverde and through her experience she has develop a new vision in life, a new approach to this illness, and great tools to aid others in their own journey.

"Nothing in life happens by accident!" I have heard this phrase a few times this week and this time has really struck me.

God has an amazing way of taking care of us. His Love and Mercy come in many shapes, colors and forms. Sometimes, is $20 we find in the dryer, or that friend that gives us a call for no reason when we needed it the most. Many times, one person leads into another, and that person brings God's shine straight into your life.

I have mentioned before my struggles with my son's health. As a first time mom, I probably made tons of mistakes introducing him earlier than needed to highly allergenic foods. May be I stopped breastfeeding sooner than I should have(even though he was 18 months); or may be that massive amount of whole pasteurized homogenized cow's milk I gave him to compensate for the lack of my milk, simply was not the best decision ever. Whatever it was, I entered a very dark place, where I could not figure out why he would vomit everything he ate, why would he cough and cough until all my efforts in feeding him ended up splatter on the floor, or the car, or the street for no apparent reason, and to make things worse, he had also developed asthma! Gosh, he was only 2 years and some!!

This is the moment where one person simply brought the love of God by sharing some information, the name of a Holistic Doctor. Yay!! May be now, someone could tell me what is happening! Indeed! What a wonderful moment was when I went to my first appointment. We talked for over an hour about everything under the son. From the type of pregnancy I had, to the birth process, to what I ate, or took during and after the pregnancy, and everything my son had experience in his short life. Which ended up being more than I had thought!

This Holistic Doctor, has been one of God's biggest blessings in my life. With his dedication and his incredibly extensive knowledge, he has guided my efforts in assuring a happy healthy life for my son. We still have more to walk, but I am sure, that with the hand of our loving God, we will see my son grow into a Handsome Healthy and Loving Man.

This is a Family's Real Story: Possible Effects of Vaccinations

I found this video thanks to the efforts of Erwin Alber (Bangkok, Thailand). He is the founder of the Vaccination Information Network (VINE) and has dedicated his life to bring awareness on the hidden effects of vaccinations. You can follow him directly on Facebook.

The video I am attaching is only one of many. But once again, this is not to bring fear or to simply create a wave in this immense ocean. I just want to open your eyes and ask you to please TAKE CONTROL of your children's vaccination schedule. You can ask to delay them, you can ask to spread them, you can ask to give the combo vaccines in separate doses. You can demand to be given the vaccination insert information before your appointment, and you have the right to choose the type or brand you consider to be safer.

Our children need us to speak for them!
