Simple Spectacular
I bought this TV on March 2nd and it was delivered on March 9. Ceva did a good job, but the guy told me that he wasn't supposed to help me to mount the TV on my stand. Whatever the TV picture is spectacular; there are no words to describe exactly the picture quality, I live in a condominium where the TV signal from Comcast is free, the picture quality is great but note that you get 3 different kinds of signal when you have cable; analog, digital 480 and HD 1080i and the analog and digital makes a big difference, I repeat a big difference, now HD channels are awesome, completely breathtaking incredible....and Then I connect my indoor HD amplified Terk antenna and that's almost another word the image is perfect , incredible perfect. But the day after I received my TV I found on the hallway one of the cable company techs and I asked him about the signal quality from his company and we started talking about their service, the guy was very nice telling me ...never order cable service if you have a HD TV only use Satellite company , because the quality it's so obvious , he told me that the cable signal lose quality thru the cable instead of satellite everything is thru the air and the signal is 100% digital and 100 % HD. That's why I'm ordering direct TV. But I do recommend this TV to anyone looking for the best TV and the best quality TV, why I put it this way? Because I started doing my research to buy a TV like 6 months ago and I found that the best picture quality is with Samsung series 600,700 and 800. BUT there is so many complaining about quality, like features that doesn't work as promised, the frame peeling off etc etc and Sony Bravia processors make the image looks so great in standard signal or HD. BECAUSE when you are shopping around for a HD TV in your local stores note that almost all TVs looks great, almost every single one have great picture , WHY? Because those are connect to a HD air antenna, Satellite or Blu ray (which those 3 are HD signals) but when you take it home, the history is 100 % different because in the real world we don't have all the channels in HD the majority are standard digital signal. That's why a good TV and a good TV processor are extremely important, the capacity of the TV to make those standard definition channels look like HD channels, most of the HD TVs now, the picture looks excellent in HD signal, but when you watch standard channels on a HD TV is the biggest test your TV will pass or not and believe me most of the TV out there look terrible in Standard definition, because the processor of the TV doesn't have the capability to upscale the signal near to 1080i. Tell the salesman to connect the TV you are interest in to an standard definition signal and you will see that he will tell you that they don't have standard definition signal in that store. And be realistic.... You can find out there a 40'' TV for 649.00 but also there some TVs that's cost ,716.23 or like the Sony XBR7 40 that the price list is 2,100.00 but you can get it here in Amazon for 1,400.00, Why there is such price difference in TVs ? Because technology cost, you get what you pay , if you want quality you have to pay for it, if you don't believe me , look right now for the cheapest TV here in Amazon . Recapping...you want the best picture? , well my best advised for you is to go for Sony but also get ready with your wallet because their best ones are expensive. Also I bought this TV because the price was the same that the XBR6 40. And the XBR7 have even a better processor and a woofer not a sub woofer. Really Nice Tv and Perfect delivery and setup from Amazon
This set has a first class picture for an LCD. This is a very high end 40" set. It is made just the same way as Sony's best sets. I am very pleased! The delivery could have not gone better. Amazon picked a very good company to deliver my set - CEVA. Once again the picture is just stunning!

When the box was arrived, instruction manual and four screws for table stand
were missing. There were no registration material. There were no table of enclosures so what else was missing is unknown. Amazon gave me to a number for SONY which didn't work. Finally I got someone to talk who tried to sell me the missing parts. I still don't know how the TV works since I don't have the manual to run it. After this experience I won't buy anything from Amazon again.

Amazing Picture for a great price.
This is my third LCD set. The first being a 32" Sharp Aquos 720p (touted to be the best at the time of that purchase). The second being a 40" Sony V2500 1080p unit. This third being the 40" XBR7. Oh my have things changed over the years.

In the comparison of apples to apples (V-series from 2 years back against the current XBR7), the difference in picture quality is amazing. The color contrast is better (without the need to be in 'torch mode'), and the "blurring" is almost gone.

If I am comparing the unit to another, please assume it's the Sony KDL-40V2500 unit unless otherwise specified.

Menus:
The XMB menu system is great. There is a bit of lag when switching from category to category though. It's just in the animation. The function isn't hindered. The adjustments (that make everyone's heads spin) have some added comments to help you decide which setting is best. It's a nice added feature, but I would still use the best tool to adjust the set: your eyes. Many home theater "elites" will criticize all of the added "picture enhancers" Sony has added. I would ignore their advice of "turn if all off" and simply adjust the set to what looks best to you. The HD content has a more crisp and clear look to it. The "MotionFlow" should be either set to Off or "Standard", as the "High" setting is a bit dizzying. It gives a smooth "flowing" visual effect which makes content look great OR horrible (depends on your eyes and personal preference). Many movies (HBO HD, 1080i broadcast, I think) look fantastic. It's almost as clear as having the actual BluRay. The SD content PQ has slightly improved, but nothing amazing.

Stunning. That is the word that best describes the quality. The first thing I watched after setting up the TV was Batman: The Dark Knight. The detail in the dark scenes were quite impressive. Most LCDs will produce a very dark gray since it's near impossible to reproduce black. This unit get's VERY damn close in my opinion. Details can actually be seen in the dark scenes now (the V2500... couldn't distinguish much). Film content (24p) is best viewed with MotionFlow OFF. With the feature on, it looks like the main subject(s) on the screen are slightly popping out from the rest of the scene. It's an interesting look, but it's not for me.

When gaming, there is no motion blur (1080p and 720p) that I noticed. The V2500 had some blur issues. The colors are crisp and vibrant. Details can be seen even in the darkest of rooms. This is definitely a noteworthy contender if gaming is the main function of this TV.

Everything looked fine. I was running the native resolution for the notebook's screen (1600 by 1050, or something in that ballpark). The text was easy to read. I haven't been able to do full resolution (1920x1080), but will try the next time I connect it.

Overall, this is a great unit. There were very little gripes I had about the unit. It's near flawless. Some say the XBR6 quality is the same. I unfortunately didn't have the luxury of a XBR6 and XBR7 side by side for a true comparison. To save a few bucks, I'd recommend checking out the XBR6 also. The only difference that MIGHT exist is a 8bit (XBR6) versus 10bit (XBR7) panel... but Sony never indicates what the XBR6 actually has. Rumors have it that they both use 10bit panels and it's just hidden in the XBR6 documentation so the XBR7 will have a larger arsenal to market with.

Superb
Superb picture, everything works from home theater sound to ordinary DVDs (on an upscaling player) to the Red Sox. Price through Amazon marketplace was excellent for the date, and vendor went out of his way to make replacement of the first set delivered in a damaged box quickly and without hassle.

Fantastic!
We have had this Sony Bravia 52XBR5 for 8 months and it is the best TV picture we have seen. It arrived in great condition, easy to hook up to the satellite receiver. It made viewing TV a pleasure just to see the detail.

It does take two people to move as one cannot lift it by using the bezel.

I actually bought the XBR4 version, which I didn't really see much difference between the XBR4 and the XBR5 except for 0. I did all my research and shopped around for months. I finally had my choices down between the XBR4 and the Samsung 8 series. The XBR4 won out, just by the fact that it doesn't have a shiny screen and doesn't have glare all that much. The picture is phenomenal, it's great for playing my XBox 360 in high-def and it's got more inputs than I'm gonna use cause I got everything running through my stereo. No complaints here except that's it's pretty heavy. Hanging it would be a 2 person job, I barely got it up on my entertainment center. Other than that, this is the best TV out there,in my opinion.

Simply the Best!
I am a semi-professional photographer and I'm very sensitive about image quality. This TV replaced an existing wide screen tube TV that was working fine, so I was able to take my time and fully research a replacement. To cut to the chase, this TV represents the current state of the art in image quality. Period. No compromises.

First, as to screen size. Make sure you take the time to explore the various web sites that discuss the proper screen size for your viewing location. You'll probably be surprised at how large a screen is recommended. I was initially looking at screens in the mid-40" range, but after doing the math it was clear that the 52" was the answer. And they were right, this 52" is perfect for my viewing room -- you get immersed in the film.

Second, image quality. Sony has always been at the leading edge, but I carefully evaluated the competition. Samsung came close, and the Samsung TV was a bit cheaper, but the Sony had deeper blacks and more saturated colors; not by a lot, but it was noticeable. Now here's the important part. A lot of the TV's look great when displaying a Hi-Def picture, and that's what they have connected in the stores, but the proof of the pudding is how the sets present non-HD images. The Sony XBR wins this one hands down. It's not even close. Don't make the mistake of not evaluating the non-HD capabilities. You might be very disappointed once you get the set home.

My only complaint about this TV is that it does not have true picture-in-picture (PIP) because it only has one tuner. So the ability to split the screen and watch two channels at once isn't available. While I'd like to have that capability, it's a fair trade off for the spectacular image quality.

In summary, this TV simply has the best image quality available today. Connect it to any HD source, particularly Blu-Ray, and it will take your breath away. It's a bit more expensive than the competition, but saving a few hundred dollars would be a false economy. You're going to own this TV for years and it will only cost you a few cents more a day to own the best -- it is definitely worth the cost of admission.

A Quantum Leap!!!!!
After many months of careful product research and price comparisons I finally opted to go HD. Truthfully, I had second thoughts about getting rid of "ole faithful"-a 1999 36" Toshiba, which has not required one bit of maintenance nor experienced any downtime whatsoever since I've owned it. Nevertheless, the time came to jump ship from SD to HD, especially since I subscribe to most of the sports packages DirecTv has to offer.I chose correctly. The Sony 52" Bravia is a magnificant package-somewhat more pricey than their competitors-but certainly worth it. Outstanding picture quality and a very easy remote to navigate. Instead of mounting on the wall I chose instead to place "the monster" on a solid cherry finish console TV/components table manufactured by Hooker Co.It warmed the family room immeasurably and looks like it truly belongs. DirecTv quickly and accurately changed out the dish and receiver, and Firedog completed the install with my Sony surround system and combination VCR/DVD player.Trust me when I say you won't go wrong with the 52" Sony Bravia purchase.

A complete waste of 2 thousand dollars
We bought this Sony Bravia 1 1/2 years ago from Amazon. It had a 5 star rating, everyone loves it. Last week we turned on the tv and all we saw were vertical lines. My husband did a search on problems with this model and found multiple message boards of people having the same complaint. No picture, just vertical lines. Everyone wrote in that the cost of the repairs were actually more expensive than what they paid for the tv. We brought ours to a Sony repairman, and was told the TV's lcd board was shot. The cost for the part from Sony is B000HGQJZW,800.00. Plus 0 for the repairman. After only 1.5 years of having the tv, the cost for the repairs were exactly what we spent to buy it. The repairman says this happens very frequently with Sony products now, and Sony doesn't budge to help with the cost, they just don't care. My husband called Sony himself to complain about it and told them we will never buy another Sony product again. What a disappointment. Please do yourself a favor and do some serious research before spending this much money on a Sony TV. Amazon reviews are great, but what you need to research is what happens to the products after having them for over one year. Sony used to put out a great television, but now they are pathetic.

Beautiful Picture. Great Price.
I see that there's a newer model of this TV out right now, but hopefully this review of the older model will help those of you looking at purchasing the new model. We are continually amazed at the 1080p on this TV. We have it mounted in our game room, and we find ourselves drifting up there to watch TV instead of watching our Sony projection LCD TV (720p) in the family room. The picture looks great with Blu-Ray, as well as with our PS3 games. We're very happy with the purchase. Amazon's white glove delivery was also great. We were called to schedule for the delivery, and the people were on time and brought it into the house for us.

I was fully set on purchasing a Samsung or a Sharp HDTV until I saw the Sony's line of products, I was blown away by the picture quality.
I was originally going to buy a 42 inch tv but ended up getting a 40 inch instead.
Do yourself a favor and go to a store and see the tv's on display.You will see the difference!!
The picture even looks better when you get it home and tweak with the enormous picture settings that are available.
I initially thought that Sony was going through some tough times with quality and brand image, but with these new line of HDTV's that they are offering, any of those issues will be put to rest.
You won't be dissapointed if you buy this tv ,trust me.

No HD needed. And, we quit using our home entertainment system which is a bit older and rarely used ever. We just really enjoy this TV.

I have ot admit, when my husband mentioned buying the TV on here, i was a little apprehensive, well VERY apprehensive. But then we looked over it, whit white glove shipping, and then of course the price and we couldnt pass it up! :) and i have been so pleased with it! Its amazing the quality! we havent used the monster cables with it as i read on a couple reviews here that it wasnt that big of a dieerence for that much of a price for the cables. however we did use an HDMI cable and at first we couldnt get it to work (because of us, not the Tv, lol, we had it plugged into the wrong one, duh!) and once we got it to work, WOW that quality is jsut amazing! very rarely when its a really dark scene (usually with oilder movies on TV) is seems like the faces are kinda floaty, like you can see them moving, i dont know how to explain it. but its very rarely, that is why we rated it 4 rather than 5 stars. all in all we are EXTREMELY pleased with it. As far as a warranty goes, we ended up getting one through Sony directly, and an very pleased with that decision as well, but you have to make sure to do it within the first month of purchase :)

Loved it until....
I really hate to give this only 3 stars because I absolutely love it. It's my second bedroom lcd and it has been perfect for 8 months. Recently, it developed one vertical line to the left. It does go away after an hour but it's definitely the tv. Since the warranty runs out in May; I'll be taking the set back to a Sony repair shop next week. I hate to do that since the TV is really perfect after an hour but fear the line will get worse or not go away. I have another Sony 52 inch kdl xbr4 from Amazon almost a year ago and it is beyond perfection. Love that beautiful set with the glass framing around it. It is huge and heavy but the images are just awsome. I have hdtv dvrs on both sets from comcast and although Comcast isn't perfect; the dvrs and really breath-taking when played back. Keep your fingers crossed for me as I hope they'll be able to fix this set. If not; I'll be purchasing another 46 inch or larger set for the bedroom after I settle with Sony. I'm assuming it will be another Sony lcd. I'm a loyal customer.

a very good toy
I was going to buy a 52" Sony, but after playing with this set, I'm glad I settled into a 46". The picture is plenty big enough in my living room. And with my Sony home theater system set up, everything works very well.

Poor quality
I gave this TV 1 star because I could not give it zero star. I was deciding between the Mitsubishi LT-46133 and this Sony DKL46V3000. Mitsubishi had much better features, but I decide to buy the Sony because
it had slightly better contrast in the dark areas. Big mistake buying this piece of lemon. I bought the unit on 12/22/07, the unit malfunctioned by doing auto shut down on 3/7/08. It has been in the repair shop twice since then and I hope to get it back before the end of May 2008. Sony offered me a replacement refurbished unit, saying the unit is more than 30 days. I refused because I paid for a new TV, not a refurbished unit. When I ask Robert at Customer Relations if this quality is acceptable, his reply is "things happen, and you turned down our offer to exchange it [with a refurbished unit]". Some one at work suggested I take them to Small Claims Court, which Robert replies "that is your peragative". Compare this to my friend's Mitsubishi TV bougt in Nov 2007 and my parent's Samsung TV bought in Dec 2007 which are still working fine.

2 tvs in 4 months
I just replaced my 2nd Sony Bravia in 4 months. I had delamination on both sets. Highly dissappointed. Change to a Samsung. So far so good

Big disappointment!
we bought this TV last October and we were thrilled with it...until this October, when a year and a day after we bought it, it broke. SONY was completely unhelpful and is even trying to stick us with an additional bill for a service visit to tell us it was not repairable. I have never written a review before, but wanted others to be aware!

Where has Sony's build quality done?"
I did my homework. Read everything I could get my hands, polled friends and my IT folks before deciding on this model. It wasn't too hard, I am (was) a HUGE fan of Sony products. I purchased this TV at Best Buy as I got a good deal because of their spring close-outs. First one had a red vertical line of pixels out of the box , back it goes. Only TV left was a floor model. It worked great for about 5 months. Then a rainbow of veritcal lines on a white background, the picture was reduced to a 3" vertical band on the left of the screen, back it goes. Now I'm waiting on the Service Center to see if it is repairable. Frankly, I hope it can not be fixed. Time to try my 2nd choice, SAMSUNG.

I like it. I like it.

This set has given my TV watching a new lease on life. I am excited again about watching my favorite shows. I have had it for about five months, and am still amazed at the picture quality. SONY shines through in picture and sound, and when the home theater kicks in; some serious home theater entertainment ensues. The 720 is great, and I do not think that I could tell the difference between it and 1080.

Great product and great Amazon service
This recently discontinued top of the line model was affordable, has the good 10-bit color and other XBR features that make it look better than other 32" HDTV - I went to Best Buy to compare its simply breathtaking. It's the most expensive I've ever bought thru Amazon.com, and I intend to keep buying high-ticket items there. I always felt safe in ordering because it's easy to track orders and easy to get help you need it. And I've probably bought more than 100 things at Amazon
No problems.

Best Consumer LCD ever.
Sony has always provided the monitors of choice for the television and film industry, and now finally there is a Hi-Def LCD that meets my high viewing standards for consumers. 1080P and 120Hz motion flow makes it a pleasure to watch all the HD satellite programming. Set-up is simple and even the audio reproduction is quite good. Amazon had the best delivered price and I've had no problems at all with this baby. This is the best.

Worst TV Set I've Ever Owned!
Without a doubt, this Sony KDL46W3000 is the worst TV set I have ever owned. The picture, which I saw demonstrated in several stores on a HD link, is abysmal using any other input but HD. Surely Sony should have realized that only some broadcasts are in HD and most other sources of input are not. They could have compensated for those circumstances instead of letting the buyer suffer from a low quality picture.
The sound is no better. It is muffled and unintelligible in many broadcasts, and the Sound Leveler circuit does not appear to make any difference. I thought I was finally done adjusting the sound level from loud commercials to soft movie scenes, and I expected the TV set to strike some kind of balance. It doesn't.
Conclusion: Don't buy this TV set at any price. I paid 47 and wish I had my money back. Based on reviews I have read of other Sony products (after I bought the TV), they no longer manufacture quality electronics. That's too bad. I've had nothing but good luck with this brand until now.

The First TV that I bought
This is the Fist TV i actually had to buy. My roomate before had his own rear projection TV and placed in the living room. So when he had to move out, i had to buy a my own TV and this cought my eye being an HD and LCD. For 00 it wasnt bad, works perfectly out of the box and been working good for 4 months already. I have Monster everything so i really have nothing bad to say on the picture quality and sound because i buy the best there is. There is nothing for me to compare too just an old fuzzy TV. I will go bigger eventually due to my living room being big.

Excellent Product
We bought this product after a couple of weeks of research and thinking. We needed a TV for our niche in the family room. Since we already have a niche, several recommended we buy a DLP so you'll get a bigger screen TV for the same or lower price. When I went to the best buys and the like, I found that the DLP looks good if you are right in front but it does not have a good viewing angle. I loved the look of plasma TVs but again since I wanted it in my family room, I was looking for something brighter. I loved all the SONY's in the stores. Amazon had a great deal on this TV, no taxes, free white glove delivery. I saved nearly 0. I am extremely happy with the HD channels and brightness of this TV in the family room. The only con is for some channels where there is a lot of speed in the picture the TV acts like its catching up. I was told the XBR with 120 Hertz is better in this regard. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and with Amazon. In the future I will not buy any product without checking on Amazon.

WOW!!
I have a few LCD TV's and this one blows me away! I spent quite a long time reviewing different LCD units from different magazines, companies, and online personal reviews, and I found that besides the top Sony Bravia, this one is by far my best purchase I have had in a long time!

Really Nice !!
I'll describe the TV and the delivery in two separate paragraphs. The rating I have given is for the TV only.

The Sony 46W3000 lives up to every expectation. The colors and resolution are spectacular. I haven't found a flaw of any kind (I used to design television monitors for warbirds). Stated simply its a really nice piece. No buyer regrets whatsoever.

The 'White Glove' delivery was another matter. The delivery company called day before to indicate the set would be delivered between 12-5pm. So as the drill goes you rearrange your life and wait hoping the delivery will be sooner not later. I waited and waited. finally about 4:30p I received a call indicating that the delivery was running late. I had a concert to attend at 7p so the delivery was now becoming awkward. Truck showed up at 6:30p. Driver had a sprained ankle and was on a cane, had no helper. Was barely able to help carry in the set. Had my wife been home alone there would have been no way to bring the set in. A jack strap in the truck used to hold the box in place had cut clear through the cardboard box. Fortunately, no visible damage to the contents. Driver and I unpacked the box and quickly tested the set with a portable dvd player. I thanked the driver and went to the concert. Arrived late got poor seating. From my experience.. Amazon needs to rethink their 'White Glove' Delivery

Buyer Beware
We purchased this television one year ago today. It has not worked for two months. We have spent endless hours with the Customer Service Dept on the phone. The parts (computer & panel) just went out on it for no reason. They do not have the parts to fix the television. They offered us a refurbished TV (someone elses problem TV) which we declined. If you take the refurbished TV, our warranty and extended warranty are null and void. We wanted ours fixed. Customer Service (India I suppose) lied numerous times regarding the delivery date of the parts. We went from "the Authorized Dealer will receive the part in 2 days" to "it is backordered until the end of February". They offered us a brand new xbr6 television replacement for an additional 0.00. They said it would be here within two weeks. No sight of that. Sony Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with, a bunch of liars. If you get lucky and get a TV with no problems, then you are good. I advise against buying any Sony products. I know I won't.

Can't go wrong with XBR
this is one of the best 40" 1080p out there. Can't go wrong with this price. the noise is not big deal at all. you watch TV with a volume on... right! love this T.V. 32xbr for my bed room and this one for living room...

Awesome Product!
I did alot of research before I bought this television and it has the most amazing picture and color. I would recommend to anyone you won't be disappointed!

You Cant Go Wrong....
Like many, I trolled the reviews of this set for a while and deliberated between this and the Samsung. I settled on the Sony for a few reasons:
Anti Glare Coating
Picture Quality seemed a little more natural
Style of the set
Brand name

Most people have read the technical aspects of the set - it performs very well. I have it hooked up to Comcast HD and the picture quality is excellent. You do need to calibrate the set so search the internet and get better settings than out of the box - but overall you will be amazed with the PQ.

The only reason I didnt rate it 5 stars is there is still some motion artifacts with the set. I consider 5 stars a perfect viewing experience, and this set comes close, but there is still work to be done.

Sony...no baloney
This set is gorgeous, and I don't know why I waited so long to buy one.
The picture is truly unbelievable. The only negative was the set up, Maybe because my husband and I are over 50. If you are also, get someone to hook it all up for you. You will love it.

I have had this product for several months. I am pleased with the quality of the picture and the tuner. The many inputs on the tv make it easy to set up and plug in my many accessories. The sound directly from the tv is acceptable, but it is very easy to run through my receiver for great sound.

Perfect!
I have had a year now and could not ask for more. Add the price was great from Amazon, no tax and free shipping. Delivery company was awesome. Took it up the stairs in my house and told me to keep the box just in case. Got it one week after ordering. Whole purchase was a no brainer. Now I just got my Sony Blu Ray to go with it. There is no other.......when it comes to Sony.

Good TV Great price
Consumer Reports magazine directed me to this TV and said Amazon had the best price for it. After much research I found they were right. Although delivery was a little sketchy (didn't have a set time and date so someone could be home) It worked out well after I found a note on my door where they tried to deliver and couldn't. I just called the carrier and they brought it right back the same day. I'm so greatful they just didn't leave it on the front porch. TV works great, no hassles, great service, no high pressure sales tactics. I will be dealing with Amazon again for some future purchaces. Thanks for a good shopping experience.

Spectacular picture quality at a great price
I was expecting very good picture on this set yet I was absolutely blown away by the amazing picture quality after we connected our HD Cable box to this set via HDMI. Tune into the Food Network or Discovery HD Theater and prepare to be stunned by the spectacular images on the screen. I find myself watching shows (documentaries, nature specials) that I never watched before. If you're in the market for an HD set, you really don't need to get a "high-end" (high-priced) model. This set has proven to be a great value. I don't think it's possible to get a better picture anywhere. It's that good.

Excellent for the money
I was very lucky to pic this up from amazon for 00 delivered. While I was aware of the cloud effect that some have complained about, I tested immediately upon delivery and this unit was fine. Out of the box set up is simple - the inputs are easy to access. I have not tried the setup for the color yet, but the delivered basic has a slight red shift, but nothing terrible. What really stud out for me hen I evaluated this TV along side others is the crispness of the blacks and the detail in low light scenes. Of course, the colors are remarkable. All in all, one month after purchase I am extremely happy that I made this purchase

I have linked this to my computer with an dvi and hdmi output and the 1080p is remarkable. I don't have an HDDVD or blueray to try that out yet.

First time big purchase over internet
All went vary smooth, had no problems with delivery, or the seller. The price was great and the Sony TV is the best, easy menus and great color and picture. The speakers are not that good, knew that from previous reviews, but plan on getting home theater sound system soon.

Great picture unless you are a basketball fan
All of the reviews which praise the picture on the model are right. While the refresh rate (60hz) does cause blurring on fast motion, the only time I notice it is on basketball games. If you are a basketball fanatic, then you will probably want a 120hz model. Otherwise, this one is just fine.

Tickled Pink
When you buy a Sony, you are buying quality. This is my second Sony TV set. I have been viewing the TV with rooftop antenna for almost six weeks now and I'm still in awe at the picture quality. My next purchase will be a Sony DVD HD recorder to compliment my new HD TV. I can not omit mentioning J & R music and Computers (this is my second purchase with them) for their efficient and quick service.

Expensive but worth it
We don't have blu-ray or HD. We use an upsampling DVD player (sony ) with this TV and have been very pleased with its performance. Images are crisp and the color is excellent.

Outstanding Picture and Sound
I've had this TV for almost 8 months and am as happy with it as I was the day it was set up. The picture is wonderful and the sound very pleasing. There is no pixelating from fast image movement. The frame is brushed metal and narrow enough that the set doesn't stick out. Very beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this TV again.

My only regret is that I didn't buy the 46" which in retrospect would have fit the room well.

Everything I expected ...
from the description of the product. The TV is more than a TV, it is also a large screen monitor for my computer. The picture quality is high in HD, and is good in standard digital. The TV also has many other capabilities with picture and sound. I highly recommend it.

Excellent TV
I just love this TV - this replaced a 32 Trinatron that was 8 years old. It was easy to setup and the picture quality is great. It works with all of my devices and was easy to hook up to my stereo.

9 months later.... have problems viewing channels... sigh.
sony can only give me another refurbished TV. I was disappointed. I was going to get another Sony LCD TV at smaller size since Sony is such a trusted brand. now switching to Samsung. Hope theirs is better.

Vertical Line on the left
This 2 star rating is just for Sony, if it is other brand i would have given 3, nobody expects a LCD panel to be replaced with in 9 months from the purcahse date, loved the picture quality for 8 months, after that a thin vertical line started to appear on the left side of the screen it will remain for few mintues but after that it will disappear, when checked with SONY they told me to contact the local repair shop, repair person came and told me that panel needs to be replaced, since it was under warranty they replaced it for free, but still i didnt expected this from SONY.

Beautiful picture - Lasted only 9 months!
I've absolutely loved this T.V. for 9 months, then the screen went blank. I can't complain about the warranty/repair process so far (although they intend to replace most of the components to avoid giving me a new T.V. and a new warranty). If, like me, this is your first time buying a T.V. of this price, keep in mind the factory warranty is only one year, and the these LCD T.Vs are clearly more trouble-prone than our old picture tubes.

The picture clearly rates "5 stars." I rated it 2 Stars because I expected my 00 T.V. to last at least a year.

Great
TV and picture much better than in the stores...superb picture even in sun filled living room. Easy to hook up, took a call to the cable company to figure what combination of buttons to push to engage HD. Had read many suggestions on how to set all the various options for picture quality, best was as is out of the box. First thing on after setting up was a football game...you could actually see each individual blade of grass...still sit back and go ohhhhh...wow...

This TV is awesome. - the picture is fabulous and the HD feature is very cool. It was simple to set up to my direcTV. The free delivery on this TV really helped as I didn't have to deal with trying to get a huge 52" TV home by myself. I would recommend this TV to all.

Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-37XBR6 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVI was skeptical about ordering a tv online. Local stores did not have this exact tv in stock or could order it for me. I am very happy with the ordering, delivery and I set it up by myself. Very easy with clear directions. Love the quality of the picture and I am very happy with this purchase. This tv is not too small nor too big.

Nice picture, nice set
I have to confess that my search for an LCD TV started off at Costco, where I stood in front of a large collection of sets with my 10-year-old. I asked him "which pictures do you like the best?" at which point he pointed out all of the Sonys (without regard to the names on the sets). Now I realize that what constitutes a good picture is very subjective, but for my $[...] worth, I was with him 100%. Still, if you're considering a similar purchase, you owe it to yourself to confront a wall of TVs that are under lighting conditions similar to what you'll have at home and "let your brain do the shopping".
I'm not going to comment on features, of which there are plenty, since frankly I'm not a geek about bells and whistles and I'm sure there are other folks who'll do this at length.

Great product Easy to set-up
The quality of the picture on this TV is everything we expected and more. Added to that is it was very easy to set-up. With the help of the Verizon FIOS customer support rep. on the phone we were able to go from the TV in the box to being set up and running with our DVR and DVD/VCR Player installed within fifteen minutes. The instructions on using advanced features were easy to understand and very intuitive.

Amazing TV
Recently purchased this TV on Amazon. Was a little reluctant buying a television over the internet but I did some research in the local department stores and I know that I wanted to buy the SONY BRAVIA 1080p 37inch so it would easily fit into my entertainment center. I am so happy with the purchase. I ordered it on a Monday and it was delivered to my home 2 days later. Price was hundreds of dollars cheaper than the dept. stores. Also I did not pay any shipping/handling charges or any sales tax. What a bargain. Was happy with the delivery overall. I also love the TV. What a beautiful picture. My old SONY was nearly 11 years old so you can imagine what a difference was when we hooked up the new one. I also purchased the Belkin 6ft HDMI cable as recommended in a previous review that I read. Good price and it works great. So very happy with the whole experience.

I am absolutey thrilled with my new Bravia. The only problem was with shipping.
I am absolutey thrilled with my new Bravia. Hookups were no problem and the picture is great. The only real problem I had was with shipping. When the T.V. arrived at the local terminal they did not contact me for delivery. I had to track the shipping number and locate the television. Then I had to contact the freight company directly to arrange final delivery. This amounted to 1 extra week that my product was delayed while sitting at the trucking terminal. Other than that the price and product is outstanding.

Great LCD TV!!!
This is a great LCD TV!!! It has an amazing picture right out of the box.
The menu has numerous options for adjusting everything you could ever want to adjust.
The Sony Bravia HDMI sync with other Sony products is great because when you put a DVD in a Sony DVD player it automatically turns the TV on and sets it to the correct input and the controls are all there on the remote.

This TV has lots of inputs and has a collar on back of the stand to hold all of the cables out of sight when looking at the TV. The PC input is great in itself but when you add in the picture-in-picture you can browse the internet and watch TV at the same time.

The delivery was perfect. They called 3 days earlier than expected and showed up within the first hour of the 4 hour window I was given. They came in took the TV out of the box and placed it on the stand (it definitely takes 2 people to do this) and turned it on to make sure it worked. They even offered to take the box and the trash away with them.

In conclusion I would definitely recommend this TV because of it's features, picture, and PRICE ( cheaper than any store in my area, no taxes, free delivery).

Don't hesitate BUY THIS TV!!!!!!

Finally a quality HD TV at a reasonable price
Two years ago I bought a 40" 720p Olevia TV on line for 0 and thought it was a good deal. Until it blew out a power chip and turned to junk on Christmas eve. This time I was looking for a name brand with great support and I haven't been disappointed with Sony. Their on-line chat for questions is real-time and very helpful. And the TV is great. Amazon's price gave me a important upgrade (KDL-46V4100) for the same price as the KDL-46S4100) which was being sold locally - and the free delivery with their white glove service brought it to my house (Durango is pretty remote) and did the initial set up - for which local stores wanted as much as extra. The TV is great and with a Sony Bravia-sync'ed upgrading DVD () we get 1080p video which makes the Blu-ray issue moot, for us anyway.

A smart buy!
After weeks of research this TV won my vote. I then looked for the best price monitoring several internet sites (too many to mention) and visited our local brick and mortar electronic discount stores. Be careful, there are many shady electronics stores on the internet that have offers too good to be true, that's because they are, so do your research. Amazon had the best price with the best reputation. Delivery was fast and efficient. Don't expect too much from the "white glove delivery service" but it is free afterall. TV has exceeded my expectations with great picture and sound. Very easy to install. Only drawback is the stand that is provided is not very sturdy, definitely suggest a wall mount or tying off the tv as instructed in the manual, especially if you have small kids in the house. I am very pleased with my purchase.

No More Sharing My HD TV

First let me say that I have 5 kids (4 teenagers) in the house, so trying to watch our 60" HD Sony SXRD in the family room is near impossible, so I decided I deserved to have my own HD TV in the bedroom. After several weeks of reading every review I could find. (I am Sony fan so any other brand would really have to standout.) I settled on the Sony KDL-46V4100. I bought it through Amazon on Sunday, Jan. 4 and it was available for Delivery by Wednesday the 7th. The delivery guys were great even helping me move my 300LB 36" Sony Trinitron upstairs to the gameroom. After hooking it to my Dish Network VIP 722 HD receiver I am 100% satisfied. The HD picture is great and SD channels are certainly watchable, the sound is really good, since I do not have a home theater system in the bedroom this was a very important consideration. Now I don't have to share my HD TV. I love it.

great deal and better service than walmart!!!
My husband and I went around looking for TVs and we went to all the online stores, did our research on price, ect... found close to the same tv at walmart for around the same price online. Went to walmart and in the store it was 0 more than online and they would not honor the online price SO we ordered it from AMAZON. BEST DEAL EVER- after all was said and done, we ended up paying less than walmarts price After taxes!!! and the Great delivery with amazon is- they bring your tv into the house and plug it in to make sure it works before they leave! Going to a walmart or other store like that you have to bring it home and chance it yourself. The TV is great -great picture and really simple to put on a mounted stand! great buy!

Great productive for the price
I bought this TV for about B001762JDC,200. I'm not a tech guy, but the TV has been great - only thing I noticed is that compared to my friend's Samsung's plasma, it takes a few seconds more to be turned on. I guess that's normal for LCD? Sound is not as great, though - regardless of what setting I use, I can barely hear what people are saying in the movies unless I turn it on really really loud - but again, may be that's because of the movies.

I have just one word for this LCD TV. Excellent. I love my new SONY LCD TV. LCD is only worth it if you have HD channels otherwise i would recommand to stick with your old one.
I really enjoy watching all the sports channels. 46" is reasonable for the 10 by 10 room or for apartments.

We are IMPRESSED!!!
After searching the Black Friday deals in stores, we could not settle on a TV to replace our Phillips 50 inch big screen with the "blown" bulb. We just knew we were going to take a hit in the wallet, but we were pleasantly surprised to find such a great deal online. That was nothing compared to the thrill we received when the delivery men arrived the following Wednesday, and promptly set up and programmed the Sony for us!! In our "Walmart" society, we were thrilled to have "neighborhood store" service from an online purchase!!

This Sony TV Has a Beautiful Picture from ALL Sources.
I have cable and a upconverting DVD. The picture is astounding in clarity and detail! I Like Everything about this TV, the Picture, the Lighted Remote, the Multiple Menues for adjusting Every Aspect of the Picture and Sound. I am very satisfied with the sound without a Home Theater System.

Too me another Important issue is that this TV Looks Stunning when it is
turned OFF! I love the design with the Floating Glass Frame. It is Much Better looking than the Newer Xbr's that came on the market in 2008.

Buyer Beware
We bought one for last Xmas. We've only used it for 3-4 months and kept it off during a renovation. Back in Oct, I called for service. Two LCD panels, two FC circuit boards & one analog board and the set is still inoperative. We get a picture, but there are green blobs all over. There is no HD or even B&W. Sony repair has been here 3 times. Now they're goong to try replacing cables. We've been without a family room TV for over two months. If your's breaks....good luck!

Sony 46" TV
This is all that it is represented to be. Am using the built in speakers and they are more than adequate for a non-audiophile. Picture and color are excellent. I read reviews on, and looked at many brands, and it came down to Sony, Samsung, and Toshiba, with Sharp, Vizio, and LG also considered. The Sony cost more, but I believe it was worth it. Great TV
This is a very nice television. No problems with delivery or set up. Picture is great. The only drawback is that the stand is unlevel and has to have shim to level the tv. From what I've read that has been a complaint from others.

My experience
I have had many makes and sizes of flat panel tvs over the past several years and I recently purchased the Sony KLD-40W4100 for my cottage. I have used it now for about 1 month and it is by far the best Tv I own or ever had, it has superior contrast and color, as well as great high definition. I would recommend this model for anyone interested in the best 40" tv on the market.

Holy Crap!!!!
I was able to get this TV for 1098 shipped using Ebay's buy it now along with live search. At the time live search was allowing you to save 25% up to 200.00. At the 1298 price tag it was a great deal, but with the extra 200.00 off it's an absolute steal. My only beef is with the company I bought it from "Pyxis Camera" they constantly gave me the run around and it took almost 3 weeks to get the TV from date of purchase, but I have it now and it was totally worth the wait.

It took me almost 3 weeks of constant fiddling to get the picture the way I wanted it, but that's because it has so many features and settings. That's a positive note for me as I prefer to have more settings and features so I can get the picture exactly how I want it. I set it to vivid as I felt that gave me the blackest blacks and the whitest whites. I then turned the color down as everybody looked as though they had a Hollywood tan and I prefer more natural skin tones. I also turned off the noise reduction as when it was on people tended to look soft. I turned on the mpeg noise reduction as it helps reduce the pixellation you get when the camera pans. I turned off cinemotion as well as I do not like the effect it creates.

I also use this as my primary computer monitor as its hooked up to a htpc. I play 1080p mkv files and they are ridiculous, smooth as butter. If you are familiar with the scene in the Dark Knight where the hospital blows up the explosion itself is extremely clean. I have looked at it from literally inches away looking for the slightest imperfection with the fast motion associated with an explosion and I can't find one flaw. Kinda makes me wonder what that 120hz is really doing because as a computer monitor it will only operate at 60hz. If you use it as a computer monitor you cannot have cinemotion on as it causes slight hesitations due to the 60hz refresh not the 120hz refresh. On the computer input I do have game mode turned on as that's supposed to help and it does make a positive noticeable difference.

Is the 120hz worth it? I don't have a V series to compare it to so I cannot say for sure. If you can find a way to get it for the 1098 I paid I would say go for it, but if you pay closer to the 1300.00 on-line or 1700.00 at Best Buy you may want to re-consider. Maybe get the V series instead and spend the difference on a blu-ray player or a good receiver.

LCD Shopper
My wife first viewed this tv inside a Circuit City and was amazed by the picture quality. I hooked the tv up to our Sony Blu ray player via Monster HDMI cable and could not take my eyes off the screen. The colors are totally amazing and the picture is very sharp with no ghosting due to the 120hz refresh rate. You will not go wrong with this television for sure!

Great set, good value, seems future-proof
This was my first TV purchase in almost 20 years, so I am hardly an early adopter. However my wife and I do consider ourselves tech-savvy. In a new TV we wanted something of moderate (no more than 42") size with the latest (useful) specifications like 120hz and QAM tuning, and a set that seemed adaptable to future developments like internet movie streaming. Sony had been offering specials in late 2008 so the timing seemed right. The picture is very true, and it works well under all lighting conditions. Because of the QAM tuner we were able to scan all available public access digital stations from our Comcast basic cable (i.e. no set-top box) wire, so we did not have to get a splitter and a separate Digital TV antenna. The remote is simple, and the on-screen menus are detailed but straightforward. So far, so good!

Smooth delivery, easy set up, great picture
Delivery was great. Gents came in and set it in place, made sure it worked, gave me a quick lesson on it, then took away the packing materials. It was too easy. I later received the HDMI cable and that was a snap to put in. The 120 Hz picture quality beats our previous Mitsubishi DLP hands down. LCD has come a long way from five years ago. No more breaking up during fast motion pictures.

Great buy
I ordered this television last Saturday and it was delivered in exactly one week. The delivery process was outstanding - the truck arrived when scheduled and the driver was courteous and helpful. The tv itself is gorgeous. Easy to assemble into its stand and easy to set up with cable and accessories. The picture is absolutely stunning. I've seen several other brands and this is hands down the best. On top of that, my tv was made at the nearby Pittsburgh Technology Center plant, which sadly will be closing soon. Act fast to get one of the last US made televisions. This has been one of the best buying experiences I've ever had!

Amazing HDTV
I LOVE my Bravia: Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-46W4100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV This is my first HDTV and I am impressed every day that I watch it! Could the XBR version be even better? (I don't know, but have trouble imagining that it could be worth the bump in price). My recommendations: 1.) Buy the biggest screen that your room (and budget) permit. My wife thought I was crazy going for 46" where we had a 27" tube TV before, but now she admits I was right (priceless!). 2.) I put this beast together and onto the stand by myself, but it REALLY is a 2-man job. 3.) Research the HDMI cables and TV stand you will need way ahead of time and shop smart for them as prices vary widely.

Impressive so far
Beautiful picture. Looks good with all inputs (HD off antenna, SD off satellite, Blu-ray and DVD movies from Sony BDP-S550). The standard definition satellite picture isn't great, but it is as good or better than the old TV.
I'm happy I spent a little extra to take advantage of the Bravia Sync feature between the TV and Blu-ray player.

Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100
I have only had the Tv for 2 months but so far I have not had any problems or issues. The standard shipping took longer than expected. I had it shipped to work so I wouldn't miss the delivery and have to go pick it. The only problem with this was that I didn't get to take advantage of the free setup that comes with the shipping.

Excellent HDTV, but some minor user interface issues
I bought the TV (direct from Amazon) because of its compact size and connectivity options. The picture and sound are very good in my opinion and the TV's remote control allows me to control the TV, cable box, Blu-Ray player, and Receiver all from one unit for most operations. I like the TV very much and am happy with my purchase.

The connectivity options work very well for me, better than I hoped. (1) The TV makes a superb computer monitor, especially if your computer's graphics card has a full-color 1080x1920 mode. (2) You can plug an ethernet cable from your LAN into the LAN port on the back of the TV, and then view photos or play MP3's that reside on computers anywhere in your LAN (provided that these computers have DLNA server software installed and enabled--see below). (3) Also, you can view photos or play MP3's by putting them on a USB flash drive and then plugging that flash drive into the USB port on the side of the TV. (SONY warns that some flash drives will not work, but mine do. Be sure that your flash drive is formatted with the FAT32 file system!) (4) Finally, SONY documentation says that you can also plug a SONY digital camera into the USB port on the TV, but apparently it really must be a SONY camera. My CANON digital camera has a USB connector, but I cannot make the connection to the TV work.

Despite my overall highly-favorable feelings about this TV, in my opinion the TV's user-interface software has some (fairly minor, but annoying) issues.

(1) "Light sensor" should be more easily enabled or disabled, and/or calibrated/adjusted:
The TV has a "light sensor" feature, allowing the TV to automatically adjust overall screen brightness according to the light level in the room. This feature can only be enabled or disabled by navigating through a menu system with the remote. I like to change this setting fairly often, so I wish it could be enabled or disabled more easily. (When "light sensor" is ON, the screen seems too dark in some situations, but not all.)

(2) The Slide Show application should work better:
The TV has a slide-show application for viewing photographs. The photographs can reside either on a flash drive or digital camera connected to the TV via the USB port, or on a remote computer connected to the TV via the RJ-45 LAN port on the back of the TV. (In the case of the remote computer on your LAN, that computer must have DLNA server software such as Windows Media Player 11 installed.) You can configure the slide show to use a variety of "transition effects", but you can not configure it to have NO transition effect, which is what I want. I just want the old slide to disappear and the new slide to appear immediately, without any fancy fades, wipes etc. Furthermore, the slide show software appears to have some bugs in it. Sometimes it gets into a mode where all the pictures are a little blurry. Restarting the slide show then corrects the problem.

Also, I would like an option to display the file name of each slide at the bottom of the screen.

(3) The Coax cable input can not be disabled in the "INPUTS" menu. My TV has no coax cable plugged into the cable input on the back of the TV. Instead I use the HDMI connection from cable box to TV. I would like to disable the Coax input in the INPUTS menu, but have found no way to do this. You can disable (grey-out) other inputs, but not the coax input.

Note: I think that the above are software issues, rather than hardware issues, so Sony may correct them in future software releases for this HDTV. I have not yet applied any software patch to my TV.

Minor problem with delivery: The delivery company called me and I thought we agreed on a delivery date 2 days from that time. However, the TV was delivered the next day, one day before the agreed day for delivery. Fortunately, I happened to be at home.

I love this TV so much...
I researched for about 6 months before I finally ended up buying this television. I went to Circuit City, Best Buy, B&H, J&R and I don't know how many online stores looking to see who had the best price on a 40" HDTV that featured a thin bezel, 120Hz refresh rate, 24p True Cinema, Brushed metal and lots of HDMI inputs. I also wanted to get something that would last me more than one year before I had to upgrade to something bigger and better. This Sony model came with everything I wanted and more. The moment you get it out of the box you feel instantly gratified. I hadn't even turned it on and I was already gushing over its smooth lines, brushed metal THIN color edges and really sturdy looking stand.
I switched it on. The SONY logo started glowing and the automatic set-up began. Everything was so easy to set up and it even came with free TC Guide on-screen channel listings. So cool, if you do not use a cable-box, if you do then this is a redundant feature. The picture is MESMERIZING. Clean, clear, sharp and the MotionFlow technology makes you feel like you are in the program you're watching.
My Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 look fantastic. There is even a game mode that you can select to have the games pop out even more. Blu-Ray is great. I just recently watched Kung-Fu Panda on Blu-Ray through my PS3 and it was great. Really great.
I love this TV. I love SONY.

This is the first television I have ever bought on the internet. It is great. And I saved hundreds of dollars from Best Buy plus taxes. Do not be afraid to order electronics from Amazon. Fast shipping and this Bravia KDL40Z4100 tv is spectacular. Great picture, easy to set up and easy remote. No problems what so ever. This model is probably the best. I recommend it highly.

Very impressive
This is my first "big" HD set. Right out of the box (via FedEx) and plugged into digital cable box with component video cables it has a great picture. Fine Mexican production craftsmanship.

I'm sure some tuning will only improve it. Can't wait for Daytona.
For me Sony is a long trusted choice. Thanks to Amazon reviewers for helping me choose the best value model.

Excellent Picture and Performance
I looked at a wall of LCDs for over a week and picked this Bravia over a Samsung (LN40A650). I liked the way the Sony handled the flesh tones a bit more - though the two were very close in picture quality. I also liked the Bravia's narrow black frame. This TV actually fits in my old entertainment cabinet with a 1/2" to spare! The picture quality exceeded my expectations - which does not come as a complete shock as a Box Store sometimes is not the best place to view ! The Bravia is easy to set up with straight forward clear menus - the printed user guide is easy to understand. This LCD works well with my low cost Sony 1080p upscale DVD player (DVP-NS700H/B) via HDMI connections - with HDMI I can control the DVD with the Sony Remote and when I turn on the unit and press player the Bravia knows to change to the DVD input. I have a Series III HD Tivo with Cable Cards (HDMI to the Bravia) and coax Digital cable. HD Movie channels look great and I can't imagine not having access to them with this TV. I see all my pictures via the Tivo's Best Quality capture mode- either live or recorded programs and I can not tell the difference in quality. HD Network Channel's graphics are sharp and clear. Viewing from about 8 feet I can not detect any pixelation or excessive motion blur - I suppose that has something to do with the 120Hz. The sound quality is excellent, well balanced and clear. I prefer the Dynamic mode that broadens the sound scape - very natural and efficient in that mode. I am actually hearing things in broadcasts I had not heard before and there is a feeling of surround sound to a degree. The TV Guide Option on the TV I have not found to be useful yet nor the the Networking function. Amazon White Glove delivered earlier than expected, communicated well and offered to assemble the TV's stand - no problems there.

Great TV, great "White Gloves" delivery
A lot has been said about the TV in these reviews. I'm no video afficionado, but the TV looks great to me, and I've hooked up Apple TV with great results. What I wanted most to write about is the terrific job CEVA did with the Amazon White Glove delivery service. They called ahead of time, were there when they said they would be there. Took the TV out of the box, assembled the stand and put the TV in it, put the TV on the media console, hooked it up to the HDMI cable I provided and had connected to my Time Warner DVR. They configured it and made sure it was working. They offered to remove the box. They were EXTREMELY professional, and protested when I wanted to tip them each. To me it was a huge bargain, and I can't say enough. I'm in the LA area and don't know whether they are this good elsewhere, but I would repeat the entire transaction, especially because deilvery was free. This plus not paying sales tax plus the great Amazon price has sold me on buying electronics and appliances this way. Can't think of a better deal!

Better Design, Color, and More Correct Contrast than Samsung
After looking and thinking about getting a lcd TV for sometime, my choices were narrowed down to two: Samsung and Sony. I found they both have rather impressive contrast and great looking color. I eventually bought this Sony model from Amazon even though the price of a Samsung equivalent at the time had dropped to unbelievably low. The reasons are:

1. In comparison side by side, the Sony one has more correct contrast which produces gorgeous color without sacrificing details (if you have printed photos, you'll know what I mean). Though Samsung does indeed have impressive contrast, sometimes its contrast is kind of too extreme which reduces and even loses details such as buttons or weaves of a sweater because of the color with too dark a hue.
2. Samsung's color sometimes is too vibrant (don't get me wrong I do like vibrant color when it's the right one), and looks unrealistic, and therefore not pleasing; Sony's color looks vibrant and more perfect in comparison.
3. Sony's set design looks sleek and sexy. Samsung will look good if wall mounted, but its oval base and lengthy supporting pole looks out of place if not ugly.
4. Much better and clearer audio sound.
5. Remote control beautifully designed, light and easy to use.
6. TV Guide feature is great for browsing, offering info on all programs within 24 hours.
7. Price is not bad at Amazon.
8. Very good experience with Amazon.

Updated info:
With no cable/satellite or special HD receiver, I am able to receive 23 HD digital channels from this Sony television, including all the major networks and PBS as well as many local ones, the clarity of the images is amazing. I simply go to antennaweb.org to find the right direction and attach two most BASIC antennas to the cable in the attic (the cable is already there in the wall connecting to the wall cable socket) and place the antennas to face the right direction, and voila, I suddenly have the access to all those HD channels in their perfect condition. Why pay a monthly fee if you don't need that much cable/satellite channels but mostly watch PBS and DVDs?

Great TV/ Beware White Glove Delivery
Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-42V4100 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVGreat TV with great picture even with windows behind me. Great Sound. Very easy to set up right out of the box as advertised.

However, beware Amazon "White Glove Delivery". This is promoted as delivery at your convenience but in reality, it is delivery at the convenience of the delivery company. They only came to my area once a week, so delivery had to be day/time of their choice. No evening/weekend hours for deliveries. Until then, they have your purchase and you can't get it. I would opt for normal ground delivery the next time.

Good TV for the money
Well my Tv just arrived today and I'm loving it. I previewed the tv at a store first and compared it with a few others before buying. From what I saw the picture quality was the best of the TV's in the price and size range compared to Samsungs, jvc's and sharps with hd content, on par with sd stuff from dvds. I also got the tv based on a recommendation of a friend who does home theater setups and business displays.

I will add that before I watched anything on the tv there were a few things you should do first. Check the software version on the tv, go to the sony website and download the newest firmware if you needed ( I didn't check, I just updated it anyway to the latest ). Updating should resolve most of the problems some complain about the Tv like random spots etc. Once updated you will want to adjust the picture settings, if you have a calibration disk use that or try the following for a natural looking picture and adjust to suit, I prefer natural looking and not over saturated colours but it works great for hd content

set to the following on the hdmi input your using for hd

click on options and picture settings
choose custom
backlight to 3 or 4
picture to 90 or around there
brightness 48 to 55
colour between 30 to 40 ( adjust to taste )
Hue to g1 or g2
colour temperature to warm1
sharpness to 1 or 2

now scroll down and go into the advanced settings and adjust the following

black corrector to low
advanced C.E to low
white balance the last setting the B-Bias to -4

you will have to do the adjustments per input your using, for SD content you may want to adjust the sharpness differently to suit. you will also still have the original presets like the over saturated vivid mode and the dark cinema mode if you have a dark room but when watching iron man or transformers the settings above worked great in my room on this tv.

As for performance with games here might be the only problem with the TV, it's 60 hz not 120! so you will get movement blur when compared to 120hz tvs I saw, not so bad but obviously it won't stand up to a higher refresh rate tv, you can also see it in fast action on sd content but since most hd stuff is either 24 or 60p it won't really matter that much if your not too picky. Thankfully there is minimal input lag so the blur is only when panning. I also noticed when using the PC input that text has some slight added sharpening applied, it's probably there in all modes but it is obvious on PC text, it's not so bad as to have halos but I don't know how to turn the sharpening off, this isn't the same as the picture sharpening setting either as that has a different sharpening effect, more subtle.

All in all I am happy with the TV, I would give it a 4.5 but since there is no 4.5 and it's not a 4 based on price vs performance I'll let it have a 5. Also one last note, if your wondering if getting a 1080p is worth it over a 720P tv, well I have a 37" lg 720p and a samsung 32" 720p tv already in different rooms, the 1080p is noticeably more detailed and better looking, at least at this screen size and with good bluray or hd content very much worth it.

The Benchmark
Finally, I have mine after a lot of research. Always I looked in any store for a TV with HD capabilities, everybody make comparison with this one, I mean, if in that store have 2 o 3 models, they compare those models against Sony Bravia XBR. So, why not to buy directly this one? So I did. I'm more than happy. The colors are spectaculars. The black is black, almost if I don't have HD on all the channels. This is the perfect TV for any home theater set. The only drawback maybe is the price, a litle high. One recomendation: if you dont have HD now, dont spend money on any of this TV. Wait until you can enjoy the HD to spend this money.

Love it!
We have had this TV about two months now. It was easy to get it up and operating, minutes after taking it from the box. The picture and sound have been excellent (though for really good sound we use our home theater system). I was hesitant to purchase because many of the LCDs I saw displayed pictures with steps of graduated color instead of a smooth color gradient. This set however has a beautiful picture with no hint of color stepping. I am very pleased. In the Sony line, the 40 inch model seems to be the cutoff for certain picture technologies that, IMO, really enhance the picture. This is true for other manufacturers too. Perhaps they think the smaller picture doesn't benefit enough to justify the cost. Just something to be aware of, if you are buying a smaller set.

Picture Too Dark
Bought LCD over Plasma because I'm a longtime Sony customer and power consumption is less. Have had this Sony 40" 1080 120mhz XBR for a six weeks and regret the purchase. Picture resolution is crystal clear but images are generally too dark (even after adjustment). I have a 26" 720 Sony, which has a much brighter screen. Will probably call Sony Customer Service for evaluation and probable replacement. Maybe I should have purchased Samsung, which Consumer Reports rates as the best LCD, or a lower end Sony 40" without the XBR features.

XBR6 40" Greatest thing i ever almost didn't do.
I recently got in the TV market about a month ago and i was looking for the most bang for the buck. It was between this tv or the comparable Samsung. I paid a little more for the sony but thats because i use all sony reciever, blu ray and i have a ps3. not only that but i just think sony builds a better product as far as longevity and reliability. The picture is amazing. Me and some friends have watched bits and pieces of "The Dark Knight", "Planet earth", King Kong" and regular tv. The picture was absolutely rediculous (good). It was so worth the money. I would advise this tv to anyone who is not loaded and can afford a 3 thousand dollar tv to buy this one. 120 hz great. love the XMB and the TV Guide feature. Pip is good as well, alittle complicated but it works. Remote is sweet, auto picks up all kinds of tvs. and i connected all my components with bravia sync and it is tight as hell. And i almost didn't get it. That would have been a bad day if i bought that samsung.

Almost Perfect
The TV performed flawlessly. It produced beautiful pictures with deep black. Sound is fairly good as well. The only thing I miss is a earphone output jack.

However, the shipping and handling by CEVA was less than desirable. CEVA informed me that they would deliver the TV on a Monday, which is my workday. I called them back and arranged to pick it up on Saturday afternoon from their warehouse. When they brought the box out from the warehouse, I was shocked to find that the box was covered with a thick layer of dust. The upper corner of the box near the handle was severely torned, possibly caused by rough handling. I took a chance by accepting it and made note of the damage on the delivery paper. But for the bad condition of the box, I would have rated this purchase a 5-star.

Beautiful picture
The quality of this television is amazing. Amazon had an excellent price when we decided to buy. The amazing and natural movement in movies and shows has had many comments from our guests. Shows like the Hulk and Iron Man are better than ever, and we haven't even hooked up the blu ray yet!

Our living room is very small. We mounted this TV onto a wall. I believe you should arrange seating for no closer than 7 feet away. We pushed all our furniture back. I had one sofa to the side closer, but watching television (especially when my husband had it on vivid) from too close made my eyes water and gave me a headache.

Overall Id have to say this television is better than any Bravia I've seen at stores such as Target, Walmart, Shopko, etc. Its a little more pricey but definitely worthwhile to get an XBR6. You won't regret it once you see the crisp clear picture and motion.

Excellent TV
This is a great TV. Excellent picture quality and color depth. Blacks are deep, especially for an LCD TV. You will never want to watch standard definition TV again though!!

Delivery is also excellent. I can't believe it was free. They delivered the TV, brought it in, and set it up. Remember to keep the box, though, just in case you have any issues with the TV.

If you are considering purchasing this TV, do it without hesitation!

This LCD HDTV, Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR6, renders dark colors as dark enough without pixelizing on color boundaries. The picture clarity and dynamic color contrast from this TV are a great viewing pleasure. The Sound level can be little better but can be adjusted though using a remote.

HDTV with an Over-Air Antenna and Standard Definition DVD Player.
I don't watch much television, so I've never been disposed to paying for cable or satellite. I screw a wire into a wall, which connects it to a building antenna. It works fine for me, but it meant that I had to do something to prepare for the changeover to digital broadcasting. I decided to buy a new TV, as I am tired of watching widescreen movies in letterbox on my Sony Trinitron anyway. But I was wary of how an HDTV would cope with over-air signals and a standard definition DVD player. And I wasn't sure what size to buy. No specifications gave any indication of the size of the actual picture area, and I didn't want to end up with a screen that would make 4:3 movies smaller than they are on my 27" CRT. I ordered a 40" widescreen to be on the safe side. Now that I have the television in my possession, I can say that the picture area is 20" x 35 ¼". That's 4 inches taller than my CRT. The frame is glossy black. Underneath, the section that houses the speakers is perforated, with a narrow silver bar at the bottom. Not too attractive, but this is a low-end model.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40S4100 takes 12 seconds to produce a picture after I hit the power button. You can choose to see the picture in standard, vivid, or custom modes. The menu is easy to navigate, but I wish the "Favorites", "Wide", and "Input" buttons on the remote were more user-friendly, because I use them so often. They're small buttons close together near the top of the remote that I have to push with my fingernail. I would prefer that they be toggles, larger, and more conveniently located. Even with the television in "wide auto", which should automatically choose the correct aspect ratio, I have to do it manually for stations that don't imbed that information. This involves cycling between "normal", "full", "zoom", and "wide zoom" formats with a tiny button. As for the picture, striped or checkered clothing looks shifty, solidly colored backgrounds sometimes "dance" a bit, and sudden movement can cause pixilation. This is broadcast television, which I receive through an antenna, not a DVD. I've read that this is typical of HD.

Auto Set-up is easy and took only 10 minutes to scan for channels. I ended up with 15 watchable channels. My analog TV only got 7-8. Picture quality on major networks is also improved. Channels come in better on 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc than on 4, 5, 7, though. If your picture isn't good, use the channel button to scan up and down to find a better signal. Although my picture quality is better than ever, digital signals are touchier than analog signals. If anything touches my antenna wire, it causes some pixilation or lines. Thankfully, these disturbances are brief. Having seen standard definition cable on an HDTV, I assumed that programs broadcast in SD would be unwatchable. But they are much better than I expected. There is light fuzziness around people's heads and on shiny objects. It's apparent that it's not HD, but it's quite watchable. On the other hand, if it's windy outside, the picture pixilates, cuts out constantly and is unwatchable. Digital broadcasting is a fair weather technology.

I'm hooking an old standard definition progressive-scan DVD player to the TV with component video cables. The television has no trouble upscaling the image to HD. I'm getting a good picture. I was surprised at the quality even of low-resolution video that I often see in documentaries. Don't forget to set your DVD player to 16:9 format to take advantage of the wide screen. If you're watching a 4:3 movie, you still have to change the aspect ratio using the remote. If you're watching an older film that shows grain, it helps to reduce the sharpness. To be frank, SD more closely resembles how the human eye sees than HD. HD gives objects and detail much more precise definition than we see naturally, even through a magnifying glass. It's not realistic; it's a style. You either like it or you don't. But at least there's no need to buy an upscaling DVD player for this television. Standard definition DVDs look perfect.

I received my television 7 business days after I ordered it. Amazon's White Glove Delivery Service is from a company called CEVA, who called one day before the delivery to confirm for the next day. They gave me a 4-hour window and said that the delivery person would call a half an hour before the delivery. The deliveryman was early. He unpacked the television and connected the screen to the base. He needed to borrow my Phillips screwdriver to do this. He put the television in my cabinet and helped me connect it to my DVD player and antenna. Then he flipped through some channels and made sure it was receiving a signal from the DVD player. He has to do this, because the customer has to confirm that the TV is receiving a signal and is free of scratches and obvious defects. He'll cart the packing materials away if you want. My deliveryman was very helpful in that he moved an old CRT television out of the way that was too heavy for me to move. But the people who make deliveries for CEVA are private contractors, so they may not all be willing to do the same things.

This Sony TV was a total disappointment. It arrived promptly with Amazon"s "white glove" delivery. I had some problems setting up PIP. I called Sony tech support for help. The first techs I spoke with could not help with a solution. One had me boot and re-boot the TV and my DVR/Cable box. In the end, by the techs own admission, he broke my cable box.Comcast replaced the box, but the old one had shows and movies on it that I'll never get to see. Then a few nights later I turned the TV on and got nothing but a black screen. I couldn't bring up the menu or get a picture of any kind. It was dead. I had the TV in my possession for less then 2 weeks, and now it was broken. The other 2 TVs in my house are Sony's, and have never given me a problem. That's why I bought Sony. I thought I was buying a quality product. The TV was made in Mexico and I complaint to Sony about thier lack of quality control. Between Sony's horrible tech support and the failure of the TV after less then 2 weeks I would not recommend buying this TV.

This was an awesome deal and the TV is awesome! Amazon's price was the best I could find, and they had free shipping! I actually had my set installed and working exactly 2 weeks after placing the order. CEVA called one day ahead of delivery, delivered during the time stated, set it up, plugged in my wires I had ready and verified that it did work okay. Thanks Amazon and CEVA for a job well done. You can't beat that for free shipping.

I did a lot of research and decided on this Sony 40S4100 because of the great price and good reviews on the sound over other choices. I had my choices narrowed down to Samsung 37", Sony, maybe Vizio, maybe LG, and maybe Sharp. I gradually eliminated the choices with the Vizio going down first, then the LG went down when I saw a bunch of different TV's together at a Wal-Mart and the LG had a terrible picture on a black & white old movie.

I would have considered Panasonic because of my great luck with their TV's in the past, but, their prices couldn't compare to my other choices. One thing that helped me eliminate choices was the PIP that many models had and I didn't want or need. I know there has to be extra charge for that feature, so I couldn't see paying for something I wasn't going to use. It's hard to find a set that doesn't have it.

I finally had it narrowed down between the Samsung and the Sony based on the quality of the TV's. I decided on the Sony mostly because of the not so good reviews for the sound on Samsung TV's, and the good reviews for sound on the Sony. When I found the good price for the Sony on Amazon, that tipped me over to pay slightly over 0 more for the Sony 40" over the Samsung 37" to get the better sound. I would play the sound through my surround system but my husband would never fool with turning other equipment on, so I was afraid to get a TV with not so good sound. I have a Phillips TV in the bedroom that has such bad sound on it that I can't stand it and have it going through a table top radio. My husband never watches TV in the bedroom, so it's no problem in there.

After watching the Sony 40S4100 for a few days, I am very happy with my choice, the picture is awesome and I haven't even tweaked the picture at all yet. Also, I haven't switched my satellite service to HD yet. The reveiws were correct that the sound is very good from the Sony, the TV is very attractive; takes a while to come on, but I find that's no big deal; the stand was very easy to install, and it sits very solidly, and isn't as large as some stands. I found the TV pretty easy to figure out.

I wish to pass on my big thanks to Amazon for getting my first HDTV to me in time for the Superbowl. It was awesome watching the big game on this new Sony, even though it isn't in true HD yet. I can't wait to start getting HD. And, yes, I am a huge football fan and really watched the game.

I also need to point out that my research led me to determine that it just isn't worth the extra to pay for the 120 hz over the 60. Also, that I had some trouble over an incorrect shipping address, but, Amazon was very pleasant and easy to deal with to correct it, even after it was shipped.
