my free album, "getaway", is done

before i release WDYID, i am releasing a free album called getaway.
YOU ARE MY LABEL... help spread the word.. here is how.

i want this to be 100% free, and it will stay that way. however, i know that some people prefer physical cd's and it is easier to spread the word sometimes by handing someone a cd instead of telling them to download something. my goal is to get this to as many people as possible, and with your help, i know we can do this :) anyone who donates will get their name listed (if you like) on my myspace and the amount you shared.

also, i will email you the download link for the album so you can listen asap. won't release it officially for at least 2 weeks.

$10 for poster + 3 cds

anything over 100$ hit me up on myspace and we'll work it out... and i will probably hug you.

The cds will be full color on the disc in a white envelope. very indy DIY style. and you, shall be my label :)

Thoughts without a thinker

One does not only write with a pen and paper. I write everywhere. Walking through the supermarket. Sitting on a giant boulder at Joshua Tree. Skateboarding down the street... wherever. Lines are constantly coming to me- some worth while, some just passing by.

While at the studio, I spend time in the B Room, with just the beats and my thoughts. Sorting through everything, organizing. Lining up the chaos.

It's a long process, but it's comforting. Alot of this stuff needs to come out. Alot to say... how to say it is the question.

In the beginning...

This blog has been created to document the creative process of the "WDYID" EP. I (thekeenone) was approached by Agent B (Robotobots) to do an EP over his production. Being a huge fan of his unreleased Robotobots album, I jumped at the chance to work with him. Since moving to California to focus on music, I've felt that I've lacked a bit of direction. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, I just knew that I had to do something. A few songs have been recorded- good songs- but with no real goal in mind. Being a fan of groups who would have one producer handle their whole album, I was searching for a cohesiveness with the collection of songs I was creating that just wasn't there. So hearing that Agent B wanted to focus solely on a project with me solved my problems.

I also blame ADD.

Before I chose any beats from Agent B, I came up with the story concept which will be revealed over time through this blog, art, writings, and songs. I segmented the story into 7 "scenes", and as Agent B sent me beats, I found which song they belonged to. I've never done an album like this before, but it seemed very natural and helped me to organize my thoughts and really focus on the message I wanted to convey.

Through many late nights, Google Docs, phone calls, emails, revisions, Kush, and some patience, we have a pretty solid base to work forward from. The first song is done ("done" to me means it is written, and ready to record. Hard part is over). Agent B created the logo that you see at the top of this page. Thun, our friend from www.ohword.com offered to come on board to help manage the project and to also contribute his insanely detailed and unique writing style to liner notes, blog posts, and anything else we may need.

It is truly a group effort and is already turning into something I am incredibly proud of. Subscribe to us, bookmark, etc... we shall return with more updates soon.
