Septa Bus Routes Updated

The Septa Bus Route timetables were updated on Feb 7th. If you’re using printed copies like me, but sure to print out some fresh copies.

How did I find out so quickly ? Perhaps I just obessively check the Septa website everyday ? Nope. Perhaps Septa’s has handy RSS feeds to notifiy their ridership of schedule changes ? Certainly not. I used a sneaky service called “Follow That Page”. It quiely looks at a web page everyday (like the Route 48 PDF schedule), and notifies you if the content changes. Neat.

Running in Disney World

I just spent a long weekend in Walt Disney World visisting with my folks. While I was there, I thought I would get in a bit of running. We stayed in Port Orleans Riverside, and turns out there is a very nice walking/running trail (dotted line beside lake in center) The loop is about a mile long, but to be honest, after the 4 or 5th loops, gets a tad dry.

Considering the size of Walt Disney World, I thought it would be easy to find a longer run. Not so much ! I settled on running from Port Orleans Riverside over to the Fort Wilderness Campground, and back. All told, it’s about 6 miles. If you add the loops at both ends, it’s pretty easy to create a 10-mile route.

Here’s a Google Map to get a sense of the run. The bits on Bonnet Creek Parkway and Vista Park Blvd aren’t very runner-friendly, but traffic is light, so not a big deal.

If you’d like, it’s pretty easy to cut off Bonnet Creek Parkway, by walking across the grass by the small lake the corner of Bonnet Creek and Vista Blvd, there’s no fence. You’ll end up on Sassagoula Circle, and it’s very easy to find your way from there to the nice walking/running path at the center of Port Orleans Riverside.

Great Museum at the Intrepid

Lucky me, I got a full blown (after hours) tour of the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier musuem up in New York. Fantastic !! They did an amazing job with the restoration. They also added a great collection of airplanes !

I’m riding the train back from New York as I’m typing this, posting from my iPhone. Cool stuff. Visited the Intrepid aircraft carrier tonight, which recently reopened after a two year overhaul. Very impressive.

New Gazebo at the Art Musuem

Did you see the new gazebo behind the Art Museum ? It overlooks the river, and has a terrific view ! It’s made of metal and wood. My only critique is that the metal seems to be oxidizing, and while that could potentially give it good character, in my opinion, it just makes it rather ugly. Maybe they’re going to paint it ?

No, not that kind of skiing. Going cross-country skiing ! I’ll be honest, I used to be a big downhill guy, but recently have really gotten hooked on cross-country skiing…
