Yearbook pick up is being postponed to a later date in the summer. We are working to get all of this year’s exciting events into the book.

Pick up will NO longer be on June 25th. The new date will be announced soon!

Last Farm to Table snack – Strawberries!

As our last Farm to Table treat paid for with PTO Philanthropy funds, the PTO will be providing a pint of washed strawberries to each classroom this morning (Thursday, 6/6) before school starts. The students will be able to enjoy these at snack time!

Right now strawberries are in season at local farms. These locally grown berries were grown by Farmer Devon, an Amish farmer who also sells at the Riverside Farmer’s Market. Farmer Devon does not use any chemicals or pesticides on his berries, so they may be funny shapes and sizes from the kinds of strawberries we get in the grocery store.

Ask your child if they could can tell the difference in taste.

Dear Central School Community,

Thank you again for a wonderful residency experience.

A particularly powerful aspect of the this project was the number of students involved from the 2^nd and 3^rd grade poets, to the 5^th recording artists, and the 4^th grade performers nearly 300 students contributed to the Spectacle.

The work of your students was seen and heard by an audience of over 600 at Riverside Arts Weekend. I am sharing photos and the poetry collage representing the poems for the 8 Riverside Landmarks. Please share with your students, as I am sure they will be thrilled to see and hear the results of their work.

Thank you again for inviting Redmoon into your school and classrooms. We appreciate your time and collaboration. Finally, a huge thank you to Janice and the parent committee (Molly, Sue, and Dawn) for their vision and logistic support.

School Supply Pick-Up 5/24

If you ordered school supplies for the 2013-14 school year, pickup will take place on Friday, May 24th from 3:05 pm to 4:00 pm in the Quest Room at school. Anyone coming to pick up their items must enter through the front doors of the school.

If you are unable to pick up your items on Friday, please contact Jennifer at jennsedivy@sbcglobal.net to make special arrangements.

Central’s Got Talent!

Don’t miss Central’s seventh biennial Talent Show, on Thursday May 30th, in the Hauser Auditorium.

There will be a matinee show at 1:00 p.m. and an evening performance at 7:00 p.m. Please note, for the matinee show, only the balcony is available for seating for parents.

Central’s 5th grade Student Council leads project raising nearly $1000 for African students’ school supplies

Central PTO would like to recognize the efforts of the 5th grade Student Council (led by Mr. Elgeness and Ms. Brackett) in coordinating a fundraiser for African Wildlife Foundation (AWF). The proceeds of a bake sale and the 4th/5th grade chore drive totaled $962.39!

Their gift will support AWF’s conservation schools which provide quality education to children from communities living with wildlife. These students can learn in a safe and comfortable classrooms with resources that will enable them to excel in school and expand their learning. Learn more about AWF at www.awf.org. Thank you Central families for supporting your student’s work on this project!

Highlights of the AWF’s CEO’s thank you letter to Central students: “I want to personally write to thank you for all your recent hard work on behalf of Africa’s magnificent wildlife. We know you had many important and worthy causes to choose from for your school service project. I think it’s so important that young people get involved in supporting important global conservation efforts and your class is certainly playing a leadership role in this regard. Your achievement serves as an excellent example of the African proverb which says – slowly by slowly the ant builds its nest – and reminds us of what is possible when a group of passionate people work together. Your hard-work, selling baked goods or performing chores for your family, was important in contributing to the final result. I am proud to now recognize each one of you as a member of AWF’s community of dedicated partners. I am grateful for your support and encourage you to remain interested in African wildlife conservation. Congratulations on your success.”

5th grade Student Council is an all-inclusive student organization that encourages leadership, partnership and community awareness.
