Dealing with tons of group bookings every year... you can imagine how many times we get asked where are the best places to eat and drink in Dublin City! .. Here is an insiders view on some of the spots in Dublin to eat and drink.

Best Fish and Chips
The best fish and chips in Dublin definatly have to be from Leo Burdock's. This popular fish and chip shop is located close to all Celtic Hostels just across the road from Christchurch Cathedral and Dublin Castle. Leo Burdocks makes a great lunch stop/dinner stop for groups! If you are very lucky the weather may be nice for sitting out and enjoying your fish and chips!! Yummy!
Best Pint
The best pint in Dublin.. it all depends on what you are drinking! They say that the best pint of Guinness in a Dublin pub is in Mulligans on Poolbeg Street. Just off Tara Street, its just a stones throw from all Celtic Hostels. If your not interested in visiting pubs some would say that the Guinness Storehouse is the best place to taste your first pint of Guinness.. and a complementary pint is included in the price of your entry ticket!! Best Pubs
If you are looking for tourist pubs - them you cannot beat Temple Bar pubs!! St Oliver John Gogartys Traditional Irish pub is great for a bit of Craic agus Ceol (fun and music!) Located in the middle of Temple Bar St Oliver John Gogartys is a perfect spot for those looking to hear a bit a free Irish Music whilst drinking many pints of Guinness!! Just remember you have to be over 18 years of age to legally drink in an Irish pub! St Oliver John Gogartys is ideal for groups staying in nearby hostels Abigails Hostel and Ashfield House Hostel.
If you are looking for somewhere the locals go then check out O'Sheas traditional Irish Pub and restaurant on Talbot street. Also offering free Irish Music every night - its a great spot to meet a few locals and avoid the tourist prices in Temple Bar! O'Sheas is particularly great for groups staying in Abraham House Hostel, Jacobs Inn Hostel and Isaacs Hostel.. as its 2 minutes stumbling distance from them all!!
Best Cocktail
The best and most affordable cocktails in Dublin City can be found in a pub/dance bar called Capitol on South Great Georges Street. All cocktails are only €5.00 before midnight every night! They have a huge list of different types of cocktails - so this place is well worth a visit!
Best Irish Cuisine
If you are looking to taste some of the best Irish cuisine in Dublin - we would recommend you visit Gallaghers Boxty House in Temple Bar. Gallaghers Boxty House is a traditional Irish pub style restaurant offering unique Irish food such as coddles and stews, bacon & cabbage, boxty pancakes and much more.. give it a try!!

Best fry up
The best fry up in Dublin can be found in O'Sheas restaurant Talbot street. With fry ups to suit all appetites - you will be gauranteed to come out of O'Sheas with a full stomach!! The food portions are huge and prices extremely reasonable! When staying in your Celtic hostel its well worthwhile to book an upgrade in advance with us and eat breakfast in O'Sheas.

Dublin – Great for groups on a budget!

Lets be honest.. this recession is getting to us all and everyone knows there is no better way to beat the blues then to get away for a few days and forget your troubles.
Your group don’t need to spend a fortune to have a great time in Dublin – you just need to know the right people to offer you a few bargains and your sorted! Thats were we come in!

Here’s a few tips on how to save some cash on your group trip to Dublin…

1) Firstly we would like to think that you guys would stay in a Celtic Hostel – I mean.. why look any further.. our hostels have some of the best locations in the city.. all within 5 mins walking distance of all the main action.. and we mean 5 minutes at a normal walking pace.. not running! We also have some great deals running at the moment for groups….check them out. Remember accommodation can be one of the most expensive things on the list for booking a group trip – so choose wisely. 2) Next on your list is getting your group around.. especially back and forth from the airport or ferry.. Public buses in and out of the city can be a bit of a nightmare for big groups and their luggage.. all persons might not get on the same bus etc etc. Working with tons of groups – its easy to see why a lot of them book private coach transfers –less hassle at the end of the day. Tip: Coach transfers are actually not that expensive and to top it off here in Celtic we have persuaded our coaching company to offer us 20% off their coaching rates for the rest of 2009 and 2010 for groups that book before Dec 09! Happy days..

3) When you visit a city – its very easy to go to the shops, pubs, clubs, have a lie in etc etc…Why not try something different on your groups trip to Dublin..EXPLORE.. Its very easy with the Dublin bus Hop on Hop off bus tour. If you’re a group of 8 persons + then we have cheap prices for the Hop on Hop off bus tour tickets. Student rates starting from €11.50 per person – they are €13.00 to buy when you get to Dublin – so booking in advance saves a bit of money!

4) Food – organising meals for groups is generally hassle free.. organising meals on a budget..is sometimes a bit more difficult..Why not book your group in to an traditional Irish restaurant for dinner? For groups staying in Celtic Hostels – we are offering 20% off group meal rates at the moment in a traditional Irish restaurant giving your group loads of variety at cheap prices. 5) Visitor Attractions.. Tip: Visitor attraction prices are always more expensive when you get to the door.. Because we book them for loads of our groups – we get the best cheapest prices and pass them on to groups staying in our Celtic Hostels. Guess who just got a sexy new makeover? Sheila’s Hostel in Cork!!

The team at Sheila’s have spent months upgrading many of their rooms –Introducing funky new colours and interiors. The rooms now look so good - we bet you won’t even want to leave your room once you get there!!! Check out the Sheilas pics on their slideshow on our Celtic website.

Cork is like one of the hidden gems for groups travelling to Ireland (or the real capital of Ireland as Paddy -Sheilas Hostel Manager calls it.. but us Dub's dont listen to him!) .. To show you just what we mean.. we have put together a few things we bet you didnt know about Sheilas Hostel and Cork!

1) Sheila’s Hostel owner is our very own BFG!! BIG FRIENDLY GIANT!! Yes your heard it from us... Liam is almost 7 ft tall – so you will definitely know him when you see him around Sheila’s!!

2) Paddy Hodnett is the Manager of Sheila’s and he is always really nice to our groups (don’t tell him the Celtic Staff said so) If your looking out for Paddy - hes the cool biker dude in leather..generally behind reception.. be sure to ask him tons of questions about Cork he will be more then delighted to help....

3) Cork is recognized as being the sporting capital of Ireland! They are completely sports mad down there!! Roy Keane and Denis Irwin who both played for Manchester united (booo – sorry Man U fans!!) and the Irish football team are two of the most famous footie players from Cork! Then there is the Rugby…… Munster the supposed rugby legends of Ireland - are a bit bruised at the moment due to their trashing by Leinster in the Heineken semi final !!

4) If you think that Dublin City is the only place in Ireland to experience great nightlife – well you’re wrong!! There are so many cool pubs and clubs in Cork City Centre for your group to experience! If youre looking for something quirky and a bit different, Paddy says to check out the Hibernian bar on Oliver Plunket Street - apparently this is where all of the mad genius’s of cork congregate!!

5) Cork hosts some of the best festivals in Ireland every year. Local and international artists come to perform in Cork’s Guinness Jazz Festival and the Cork International Choral Festival. For those looking for a taste of culture, plan your trip around the Cork Midsummer Festival or the Cork Arts Festival. Cork’s St. Patrick festivities should also not be missed! If your group are participating in any of the festivals in Cork, Sheila’s hostel has an excellent central location and is an ideal base for your group!

6) Now we often get requests off groups to go to Cork from Dublin on a day trip.. they look at the map and think Ireland is the size of a pea.. well no.. Cork is not possible to visit from Dublin in a day ... besides theres way to much to see and do there you have to stay a few nights to take it all in! .. Liam reckons it only takes 3 hours to get to Cork via the moterway..maybe when hes wearing his rollerblades??...

7) Looking for the best Fish and Chips in Cork... Get yourself to Lennox’s on the Magazine Road, Cork... Yummy!

The Celtic Team are here to give you the lowdown on all of the craic in our Dublin City and Cork City Hostels. Take it easy on us however - we are new to all of this!!

Celtic are not here to give you a load of marketing spiel on how wonderful and brilliant our hostels are, were here to give you all of the best insider tips on how your group can have a cheap and cheerful stay in Ireland!! Did I mention that staying in a Celtic Hostel.. will however improve your overall group travel experience....

Our aim is to keep you updated with all of our latest news in our hostels ie: whats happening in our hostels, what our groups are getting up to and much more..

A groups visit to Ireland wouldnt be complete without a few insider tips on the best things 2 do and see during your trip.. yes we will be including info and suggestions about all of the fun and popular must see and do things for groups.. but we also aim to go one step further and give you a true picture of what us Irish folk get up to in our spare time and the places we actually love to go..and you wont always find these in the guidebooks!!
