The candidate must be able to handle small plastic specimens and power tools at or above shoulder level. The candidate must be able to handle heavy loads in a safe manner, avoiding unnecessary risks while performing these tasks. Some physical lifting is required, possibly including the movement of 55 lb bags of plastic materials. After initial training under the supervision of a Materials Specialist and/or senior Technician, the person will be responsible for independently performing routine tests in the laboratory utilizing multiple test methods and equipment. The candidate will, over time, be expected to carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision in the primary areas of responsibility. The position will be responsible for the upkeep and routine maintenance and repairs of all the equipment in the primary areas of responsibility. The position will require the individual to work with equipment vendors in trouble-shooting problems and coordinating and overseeing vendor service calls. After completion of training in primary areas of responsibility, the successful candidate will be cross-trained to serve as a competent backup in secondary areas of responsibility. This position will require extensive computer usage and skills. The position will routinely perform data gathering, data charting, limited data analysis, data recording and data transmittal to customers on a regular and ongoing basis. The successful candidate will be expected to work well in a team environment and maintain close, cooperative relationships with fellow technicians and a cross-section of the laboratory customer base.
