To work in a professional police force you have to be both independent and a team player and able to work seamlessly with other agencies.

In Canada the police have to be able to work fluently in English or French.

In Canada to function as a professional police officer you have to understand both the language, the culture and community.

For police candidates who lived in other countries for the first 25 or 30 years before moving to Canada - they have a tremendous amount of studying to undertake to understand the language, the culture, how the community operates, the Canadian laws and functions of the police.

Everyone’s nightmare is be on holiday and rushed to a hospital somewhere with chest pains only to be greeted by the doctor who stopped learning forty years ago and does not know what nitroglycerin pills are or the intern who can not read the English instructions for the internal heart defibulator. Everyone expects Canadian doctors to be current and professional. Everyone expects the police to be the same.

Police candidates should be able to constantly study and understand the importance of staying ahead of the curve. The full time studies should have started long before becoming police candidates, accelerated when training and increase again when given their badge.

For police candidates who lived in other countries for the first 25 or 30 years before moving to Canada - the sooner they start the accelerated study program the better prepared they will be when out on the street.

If you are interested in a Police Career in Canada go to our new Police Careers page

************

Career Training in Canada Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Training for Police Careers in Canada

Many Canadian police departments hire and train candidates directly without any extra or special training or pre-requisite police fundamental programs.

First candidates should decide which police force they wish to work for: national, provincial or municipal.

Second candidates should meet with the official recruiting officers and obtain the exact steps necessary to qualify for the force and be hired.

According to the Canadian National Occupation Codes - Each week the business projects illustrate "winners and losers" and "team players and loose cannons" and "real skills and pretenders" for all to see.

In TV land the "losers" get booted. In real life career entrepreneurs have to work at their craft. Entrepreneurs have to expand their knowledge of effective corporate management and self-employment by learning, practicing and experiencing the diverse skills necessary to succeed in today's competitive marketplace.

Business internships are ideal for individuals who have the drive to tackle the challenges of self-employment in today's rapidly changing business environment.

Business internships are an interactive experience that integrates new ideas into proven formats and helps graduates gain the knowledge, confidence, and experience they need to succeed.

For future corporate executives and self-employed entrepreneurs the educational benefit and experience to create, plan and launch a real live business with help is huge.

Business Incubator

The purpose of the Business Incubator is to help interns start successful businesses.

The existing competitors or unserviced niches, licenses, registrations, incorporation, marketing research, pricing, margins, operations, logistics, import/export, wholesale/distributors/retailers, initial cash requirements, potential sources of financing, cash flow projections and time lines which include a detailed implementation plan.

Business executive mentors, experts and coaches will review the initial outlines.

The project incubation process is structured with primary market research, market analysis, operating and financial planning overlaid with project benchmarks that must be achieved.

Mentoring and instructional support includes experienced businessmen, early-stage legal, accounting, and administration services, technical experts with shipping, logistics, engineering, packaging, advertising, sales training and business coaching.

Apprenticeship Training to be Upgraded in Ontario

Apprenticeship is hands-on training, the process of learning by doing.

Apprenticeship training is a combination of on-the-job learning and in-class instruction.

Apprentices are paid while gaining work experience. Apprentices are workers and earn a salary for the work they do. Apprentices' salary increases in step with their increased knowledge and skills.

The Ontario Ministry of Education has a number of ways to help you get started in an apprenticeship program. In Ontario, there are more than 150 skilled trades ranging from auto mechanics to arborists; and from early childhood educators to chefs.

Approximately 110,000 apprentices are currently learning a trade in Ontario.

Ontario is taking steps to promote the skilled trades and modernize the apprenticeship training system by establishing a new College of Trades. The Ontario government intends to introduce legislation in spring 2009 that, if passed, would implement the new College of Trades.

The College of Trades would promote careers in skilled trades while ensuring Ontario's skilled trades system meets the growing needs of the economy. The College would put skilled trades on a similar footing with teachers, doctors and nurses, who have their own professional colleges.

If you are considering real work experience as an apprentice you have to look at the job, job description, length of time to train and courses and skills to help prepare for your career.

To look at the List of the Ontario apprenticeship trades go to:
http://199.71.28.118/eng/training/apprenticeship/skills/allTradeSearch.asp

************

Career Training in Canada Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Links to our favourite websites:

Link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors, teachers, classes, lessons, Business English, Canada universities, colleges, schools, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools, programs, instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America

Link to TLC Travel Language Culture Network language exchanges, travel, immigration, employment, shopping, homestay and professional services

Link to Sentence Master English Writing Game that helps students improve English
grammar, English vocabulary, writing phrases, clauses and complete English sentences.

JVS Services in Toronto

Originally founded by the Jewish community at the end of the Second World War, JVS evolved into a broad-based community organization whose name is synonymous with helping people of diverse backgrounds to meet their educational and employment goals.

This strategic business measurement workshop will:

Improve the credibility of the training function by quantifying training’s worth to the organisation.

Better manage training costs and make more cost-effective decisions regarding training expenditures.

Plan a successful strategy for implementing evaluation strategies and techniques in your organisation.

Increase training benefits by focusing more on achieving results which have worth to the organisation.

Improve the credibility and power of the training function by becoming PROFIT instead of COST centered.

Apply measurement techniques strategically to improve the cost effectiveness and impact of training on operational results.

From a survey conducted by our workshop leaders of Chief Learning Officers, these are some of the reasons they choose to attend this workshop.

Top management requires it 30%

I have pressure to justify budget 30%

I know I will need to demonstrate more accountability 25%

I want to show increased accountability for T & D 10%

I want to explore with new techniques 5%

Workshop Coverage

Human Resource Development expenditure is a unique form of business expense. Unlike other expenses, training costs represent an investment by the firm in their employees. As with any other investment, a commitment to training is directly related to the expected returns from each dollar invested.

Assessing the value of these returns has been the subject of a large body of international research. Almost unanimously, studies have concluded that enterprises are interested in training as a means of securing improved workplace performance and greater profitability.

Measuring these benefits, and relating them to the costs of training in a way that reveals the rate of return on a firm' s training outlay (investment in human resource development), is not yet widespread among many companies. Many firms may both be aware of the significant increase in their bottom line that could occur if they were to identify and pursue the highly profitable training opportunities like this one.

Measurement of training ROI starts with defining the reasons and goals for the training determining how much the training costs and verifying the amount of return.

Questions you may have on this are:
· What is the reason for the training?
· What is the investment in training?
· How is the return measured?

This workshop is designed for individuals who are interested in and responsible for measuring results of training and performance improvement programs. After attending the program, participants will realize that measuring ROI is possible and that a logical, rational way to approach it exists within the constraints of budgets and resources.

This in depth two days measurement workshop will cover:

“Training” or “Learning”, the fact that although enterprises invest in training, it is learning, skill development or attitude change that results in the returns; and these are not always associated with training.

How traditional ways of thinking about Return on Investment are appropriate to training and learning.

Selection of output measures.

The different ways of measuring key variables.

The Pre and Post training analysis.

Analysis of the impact of training on efficiency and productivity.

How the many changes that can be made within a company can contribute to performance improvements and profits.

How to provide guidelines for interpreting training' s impact on profits and competitiveness.

How to prove that training leads to performance improvement.

How to pilot, test, deliver and evaluate your program.

How to put together behavioral audits.

Ways of calculating the Return on Investment.

Interesting Findings

How much of the $58.6 billion budgeted by U.S. companies for training last year actually paid off?? How can such return on investment (ROI) be measured?

Training executives today are more concerned about these questions than ever; in fact, the National HRD Executive Survey conducted by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), showed that “determining the impact of training on financial performance” was the top challenge for more than half (55.9%) of the HRD professionals surveyed. However, bottom line accountability is elusive, and some say it' s down right impossible. According to Donald Kirkpatrick - a world authority in measuring training effectiveness, it' s not as elusive as it may seem to be!

To register via fax, please fax this form to 021 6270 8513
Workshop dates: 18 & 19 Nov 2008
Location: Xin Tian Di, Shanghai

*********

Career Training in Canada Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Links to our favourite websites:

Link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors, teachers, classes, lessons, Canada universities, colleges, schools, Business English, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools, programs, instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America

Link to TLC Travel Language Culture Network for student language exchanges, travel, immigration, employment, shopping, homestay and professional services

Link to Sentence Master English Writing Game that helps students improve English
grammar, English vocabulary, writing phrases, clauses and complete English sentences.

Private career college FAQS

A private career college is a school that prepares students for a specific job, or gives them specific skills. There are more than 500 private career colleges in Ontario.

Career colleges are private organizations. Some operate for a profit, as a business. Some career colleges are non-profit organizations.

Private career colleges operating in Ontario must be registered, and have their programs approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The Private Career Colleges Act, 2005 governs private career colleges. This act ensures that private career colleges meet certain standards for the programs they offer, as well as advertising, refund policies, and instructor qualifications.

Private career colleges offer certificate and diploma programs in many fields such as: Business, Health services, Human services, Applied arts, Information technology,
Electronics, Services and Trades.

Private career colleges usually have smaller groups of students and offer: more flexible schedules, different start times during the year and intense programs that deliver training over a shorter time.

It is important to note that if you register in an unregistered career college or an unapproved program, you will not be covered by the protections provided by the Ontario government under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.

It's also important to be aware that there are a number of private organizations offering education or training programs that are not regulated by the province. These include language training programs, programs that are less than 40 hours in length, programs that cost less than $1,000, professional development and single-skill training programs.

By law, every private career college must have a student complaint procedure. If you are not satisfied with a filed complaint response, you may then complete a Student Complaint Form and submit it to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Link to Ontario PCC Student Complaint Form
http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/AttachDocsPublish/022-58-1399E~2/$File/58-1399E.pdf

It is important to understand all FAQS before signing with a career college in Ontario.

*******

Career Training Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Links to our favourite websites:

Link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors, teachers, classes, lessons,
Business English, Canada universities, colleges, schools, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools, programs, instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America

Link to TLC Travel Language Culture Network language exchanges, travel, immigration, employment, shopping, homestay and professional services

Link to Sentence Master English Writing Game that helps students improve English
grammar, English vocabulary, writing phrases, clauses and complete English sentences.

Constructions of the Other in Cultural Stereotypes

The "Constructions of the Other in Cultural Stereotypes" conference seeks to examine the constructedness of stereotypes from the angles of many disciplines.

The focus is on cultural relations between Europe and anglophone cultures and on patterns of preconception within the anglophone world.

Language, literature and the arts are major construction sites of stereotypes and cultural identities as are children`s and classroom books.

Translation activities may be considered an original border country of cultural encounters and so are (inter) cultural studies. While media tend by their very nature to foster stereotypes, recent intercultural teaching strategies in the foreign English language classroom strive for the opposite.

The English Philology Department of Szczecin University is pleased to announce a conference on the issues of identity, stereotypes and linguistic rights.

Twenty years after the fall of the Iron Curtain the organizers conclude that the city of Szczecin, at the crossroads of important European transit routes and located in a sensitive cultural border zone, seems to be an ideal site for this conference. Formerly under the rule of Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Prussia, Germany and France, the city has always adjusted well to its inhabitants and their ways of life. Most professional schools have development committees to review and create procedures to improve the school's performance.

Usually all staff, teachers, administrators, deans and directors are evaluated and asked to develop better practices as teachers, researchers and administrators.

Many schools will hire outside consultants to provide input, work with accreditation organizations, and collaborate with peer schools to maintain and if possible raise standards for academics.

This is an example of a professional school manual index for teaching staff.

1. Supervision of Office Staff

There are tremendous differences between the public and private sector schools.

The public schools realize the world is constantly changing and have created huge procedures to constantly monitor amd include these changes into their subjects. Most public schools pay 40% for logistics, 40% for staff and 20% for research, testing, evaluations, community outreach, community services and lose money every year.

Most private schools (99% of the ones I have been in) spend no money on research, testing, evaluations, community outreach or community services. Most of them spend 20 to 30% on logistics, 10% (or less) on teachers, 20 to 40% on marketing and sales and try to earn 20% profits every year. I would love to hear from any private schools that break this mold.

Say what you will about the big universities and colleges - they still offer the best options and best education value for money spent for students.

*********

Career Training in Canada Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Links to our favourite websites:

Link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors, teachers, classes, lessons, Canada universities, colleges, schools, Business English, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools, programs, instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America

Link to TLC Travel Language Culture Network for student language exchanges, travel, immigration, employment, shopping, homestay and professional services

Link to Sentence Master English Writing Game that helps students improve English
grammar, English vocabulary, writing phrases, clauses and complete English sentences.

Computers Technology Trades Training in Canada

Introducing the Service Canada Site: Jobs etc

The second section of the "What is your favourite Subject"

If Computers, Technology & Trades are your favourite subjects,

Then You Enjoy Things Like computers, applied sciences and trades. This way you can actually see/hear your progress, because it is easy to think that you are not making progress over time.

3 – Memorize useful North American or British slang, depending on where you are, and current idioms and expressions, etc. to integrate them whenever possible. If you are not sure if an idiom or expression is appropriate, ask a teacher, tutor or coach, or a trusted native English speaking friend.

4 – Buy a pronunciation book. Check for CDs in the back and whether they are British or American English. Adapt to your environment as best as you can with your accent. I have recommended a couple in the free download on accent reduction you see to the right of the blog (Important Links).

5 – Use a mirror to observe your lips, tongue and teeth positions, and observe others for correct positioning. Practice in the mirror every day. A good time is right after you are finished brushing your teeth.

6 – Control your volume, and stress key content words to keep listeners focused. Content words are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, numbers, and other descriptor words.

7 – Control your rhythm and pace. It is not a race! Use medium speed, and medium volume.

8 – Practice with tongue-twisters, alliteration and poetry. Get control of your speech!

9 – Keep a list of trouble spots (words, sounds) to practice morning and night in a logbook or diary. Build your own personalized textbook to practice every day.

10 – When in doubt of the correct pronunciation, use a good North American dictionary or British English dictionary, depending on where you are living or studying, to check the phonetic instructions of sounds and syllable stress.

Enjoy learning English, enjoy your new surroundings, and by all means practice accent reduction tips every day until your confidence in communication improves. Pilot in Canada

Steps to become a Pilot in Canada

Step 1
Obtain your English Language assessment at ESL in Canada
If necessary register for ESL for Aviation

Step 2 Medical Exam for Student Pilots

Before investing time and money it is important to ensure that you are fit to act as pilot in command of an aircraft. In order to fly in Canada, you must obtain a Canadian Aviation Medical. You can obtain a list of Civil Aviation Medical Examiners by checking the following link.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/cam/CamSearch.asp

Transport Canada will issue you with a medical certificate in addition to your student pilot permit. This process can take from 2-3 weeks. Canadian schools cannot issue you a letter of acceptance until you have passed your medical.

All ICAO countries have medical examiners approved by the Canadian government to provide pilot medical examinations. A medical examination may also be conducted by an Aviation Medical Examiner designated by the CAA or (ICAO). The appropriate medical form can be supplied by Health Canada.

Step 3 Select a Canadian school

Flight training organizations have different specialties. equipment, prices, staff and locations. A list of questions for the schools should include:

· Schedules for courses (private, commercial, IFR, multi, instructor, etc.)
· Costs for training and expenses
· Payment policy (deposits, bank accounts, etc.)
· Airport and school training facilities and equipment
· Age, types and quantities of aircraft
· Local accommodations, living costs and distance from training facility

For more information on how to choose a flight school, please visit this link.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/general/Flttrain/Mis/Selection.htm

Step 4 Letter of Acceptance

You will need to obtain a letter of acceptance to obtain a student visa. The letter of acceptance should contain: program description, location, start date, duration estimated costs of course.

Step 5 Obtain student visa

With student pilot permit and letter of acceptance from a Canadian Flying School, the next step is to obtain a student visa from the department of Citizenship and Immigration.

Step 6 Travel to Canada

Licensed Pilots Upgrading Ratings in Canada

Transport Canada will now issue a Limited Term Pilot License and Medical Certificate (LTPL/MC) or Limited Term Pilot License (LTPL). The LTPL/MC is based on a valid foreign pilot license and the medical document validating that license. The LTPL is based on a valid foreign pilot license. As a result this will permit foreign pilot license holders to fly Canadian registered aircraft internationally for private recreational purposes (such as hour building). The holder of this LTPL/MC or LTPL may act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of any aircraft for the sole purpose of his or her own flight training or flight test. This document may also be endorsed with additional ratings.

English Language Training: Intensive English programs available for foreign students at ESL in Canada.

ESL for Aviation

There are several benefits for international students to consider Canada for flight training. Every year thousands of pilots from around the world train in Canada. These successful pilots enjoyed the very favourable exchange rate reducing training costs by almost half. North American flight experience is essential for many positions and the internationally recognized Canadian licenses are highly valued by employers.

Flight Training Simulators:

Elite Flight Simulator: This flight training device also simulates a variety of aircraft, depending upon the experience level of the student. To allow for more efficient training, all Toronto-area approaches have been programmed into the database. The Elite simulator also has the capability to print out the student's flight path in map format. These printouts may be filed and referred to during subsequent lessons, in order to track student progress.

Audio-Visual training aids: Cessna's Computer Based Instruction program, Power Point Groundschool classes, Internet weather reports, instructional videos and computer workstations.

Ground School Courses:
Career Pilot Ground School Program
Private Pilot Ground School Program
Commercial Pilot Ground School Program
IFR - upon demand
ATPL - upon demand
GPS - upon demand
CRM - upon demand
* We will work towards your schedule and customize programs as well.

Accommodation:
Multiple housing options are available in downtown Toronto hotels, university residences, hostels, shared accommodation and room and board facilities. Research before the Interview. Before you meet the prospective employer research the interviewer, the process of interviews and the steps of the hiring process. You might even contact the interviewer directly.

2. Starting the Interview. Your appearance counts. The first thing that will happen is that the interviewer will see and react to you. Dress and groom at the same professional status of the interviewer or job requirements. If you have created a reasonable positive image of yourself then the interviewer will now be interested in the specifics of why they should consider hiring you.

3. The Interview. The interview conversation usually lasts from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Most job candidates consider this conversation as the most important and most difficult task in the entire job acquisition process.

4. Closing the Interview. This is your opportunity to leave final impressions for key points of education and experience and set up the next point of action.

5. Follow-Up. Send a thank-you note. Make a summary note of the interview for your own reference and then call back when you said you would.

6. Second Interview Negotiations. They are always difficult for first time employees as many entry level employers simply offer a take it or leave it position. With experienced and skilled employees sometimes hours, salary, benefits, holidays, health coverage and bonuses can be raised or lowered depending on the shortage of labour or real value of employees skills.

7. The yes or no decision. This process is unique for each individual as they try to determine the benefits of this employment, benefits of another employment or the real costs of unemployment.

*********

Career Training in Canada Blog URL
http://career-training-in-canada.blogspot.com/

Links to our favourite websites:

Link to ESL in Canada Directory of ESL English tutors, teachers, classes, lessons, Canada universities, colleges, schools, Business English, Canadian ESL English as a second language schools, programs, instructors, free ESL English lessons, homestay, education coaching, consulting services, student resources, information and advice across Canada, North America

Link to TLC Travel Language Culture Network for student language exchanges, travel, immigration, employment, shopping, homestay and professional services

Link to Sentence Master English Writing Game that helps students improve English
grammar, English vocabulary, writing phrases, clauses and complete English sentences.
