With all the news and attention on furloughs, I missed this. So, I'll use it to start a leisurely Sunday, typically a family day. And what better way than to see the White House's official portrait of the First Family: President Barack Obama, Sasha Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Malia Obama.

Probably the most interesting part to me is that if you try to get the full size version of the photo, it links to Flickr. It's nice to see that the Obama White House is keeping up with technology.

Today, I bid aloha to yet another co-worker. She is leaving us to return to her career in the U. S. Air Force. Her departure is a big loss for us, but we've all been sharing our well-wishes, hugs, and lei with her today.

Speaking of which, that yellow lei on top is from me. It just called to me, so I had to get it for her. I'm smart, I take the photo right after I give the lei...so I can blog about it.

Talk about bad timing!

The electricity just went out at my condo. That's an inconvenience for sure, but today was the day I planned to setup my new Tripp-Lite Battery Backup system (so that I can safely shut down electrical equipment).

Making matters worse, it's also the day I was going to completely drain my iPhone 3Gs to zero and fully charge to 100%, per Apple's instructions.

I guess I should be upset with myself for not doing this yesterday. At least I have my new power inverter and can charge my Acer in the car. Oh yeah, and my new Hele broadband card is going to be extremely handy today.

Portuguese Bean Soup

I lucked out today. My coworker, Leatrice, made a whole bunch of food. This was the centerpiece, some very delicious Portuguese Bean Soup. Delicious! Reminds me of my grandma's bean soup.

A yummy salad

AUW Kick-Off

Our car...AFTER the break-in

As I Tweeted (http://twitter.com/exbor/status/3677576503) our car got broken into. Thanks to everyone for their concern.

I don't hope theyy catch the kid who did it, it's not like he'd be able to pay for the repair. Well, now we get to deal with insurance, and hope that premiums don't go up.

Funny thing is: the car is over 6 years old and we don't keep anything of much value in it. Honestly, stealing the tires are probably worth more - and cheaper for me to fix than the window.

Ugh!

So this was the scene at my office when I arrived this morning. It stayed like this for a couple hours. While the ceiling lights didn't work, the phoned and computers worked just fine. So we were able to do our jobs, just in the dark.

My new iPhone wallpaper

Don't worry, this isn't a photo of my iPhone. But it is the photo I now use as my wallpaper. After scouring the Internet for photos to use, I remembered @kentonchang had a really messed up screen. So I asked him for a photo of his iPhone 3G, which really did look like this before he upgraded to an iPhone 3GS.

So why do it? I don't know. I actually think it's pretty cool. And maybe it's a good anti-theft device. I mean, who'd want to steal a cracked iPhone and have to pay $200 to fix it?

Perfect, portable dessert

This is an assortment of delicious mochi ice cream from Bubbies.

Clockwise, from 12:00, are the following flavors:
-honeydew (light green)
-chocolate espresso (dark brown)
-cantaloupe (orange)
-green tea (green)
-guava (pink)
-butter pecan (light brown)

My favorite was the honeydew. Unfortunately, that was my wife's selection, so I only had two small bites.

A Farewell to Grandpa

I just received my latest issue of Honolulu Weekly, the Best of Honolulu 2009 edition. So I go straight to the Civic Affairs section (hey, I *am* a political junkie).

Congratulations to Honolulu's current Managing Director (and former Rep.) Kirk Caldwell on being named the "Best Replacement for Mufi." The only question now is, "Does this help or hinder his efforts?". I say any support is a good indication.

This is a photo of my computer screen from yesterday as OHA Chair Haunani Apoliona testified in support of the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2009 (S.1011). Seated and partially visible behind her are (L-R): Tim Johnson, Clyde Namuo, and Martha Ross.

Chair Apoliona testified shortly after the U. S. Department of Justice testified in favor of the principles of the bill and called it "historic" legislation. This stands in stark contrast to the open opposition of the George W. Bush administration.
