Participating in cancer walks can be a great way to fight cancer and support those who are dealing with the challenges of cancer. Cancer affects all of us, either directly or indirectly.

If you don’t believe cancer affects you, consider these statistics. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.4 million new cases of diagnosed cancer will occur this year alone. In 2004, there were approximately 10.8 million people who had a history of cancer. Last year the cost of cancer was estimated to be over $200 Billion dollars! Cancer does affect all of us.

Cancer walks don’t only raise funds for worthy charities that battle cancer every day. They also help create an awareness and can even be used to recruit volunteers and advocates for the cause.

The purpose of each cancer walk is different. The money raised may go to a nonprofit organization that deals with many forms of cancer or one specific form. Decide where your passion is and get involved in a cancer walk that aligns with your passion.

Some of the more popular cancer walks include:

Relay for Life (American Cancer Society)
Breast Cancer 3-Day (Susan G. Komen for the Cure)
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (Avon Foundation)
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (American Cancer Society)
Lung Cancer Walk (LUNGevity Foundation)

Search out a cancer walk in your area and get involved. You can play a part in wiping out the disease and supporting those who deal with cancer until it is only a memory.

This was an amazing experience for me. I was asked by my friend, Judy Jenkins to help her and her team with whatever they needed from documenting the event to moving their belongings from one hotel to the next. I was deeply moved and very impressed with how organized the event was. I highly recommend either walking, volunteering to help a team and definitely donating to someone that is walking. This video is for those who are afraid of getting or having an ovarian cancer.

This video is a reflection of forwarded chain emails about “walks” “awareness” “warning” etc. I very much dislike forwarding this type of emails because I don’t want to expand the wrong energy. We all know that what you focus on expands. For that reason, I refuse to expand all kinds of walks and awareness of illnesses and wars and for a long time didn’t forward those type of emails. However, today I’d decided to do something about it.

If I keep receiving them, that means I have a fear that attracts this type of messages. And as we all know, we manifest what we’re fear of or strongly believe in. So, I’d decided to tap off all the fears gradually as the messages would come in in the future. I’d decided to create videos, so you’d be able to tap them off as well and instead of spreading the fear with chain emails, you may as well spread the freedom from it.

Television Personality & Celebrity Stylist Daniel DiCriscio (“Da Ali G Show”, “Todd TV”, The Emmy Winning “Cristina’s Court”,
Vh1′s “Home James” & “Greenhouse”, “TMZ on TV”, “The Gossip Queens”, and the upcoming “The Messiah of Makeover”), made it a personal mission to participate in this years 18th Annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women on Saturday May 7, 2011.
DiCriscio, who recently lost his beloved mother to cancer this past Feb 26, 2011, ran the 5K race in her memory and also made a special guest appearance at the event.
The race took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at Exposition Park and attracted over 40,000 participants. The EIF Revlon Run/Walk event is one of the nation’s largest single-day fundraisers to support women’s cancer research, counseling and outreach programs in New York City and Los Angeles.
Academy Award Winner and Revlon Global Brand Ambassador Halle Berry and Alyson Hannigan (Star of “How I Met Your Mother”) co-hosted the event on Mother’s Day weekend with American Idol finalist and recording artist, Kimberley Locke, singing the national anthem.
The EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women was launched in 1994 through the combined efforts of Lilly Tartikoff, Ronald O. Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc., and EIF. Since inception, more than $60 million in grants have been made from the combined events in New York and Los Angeles.
“Since the first EIF Revlon Run/Walk, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children have shown their support for this important event. I am incredibly inspired by their dedication and passion for the cause and thank them for helping us make the run so successful,” stated Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc., co-founder of the EIF Revlon Run/Walk and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program.
Proceeds from past EIF Revlon Run/Walks have funded cutting-edge research, contributed to the development of the breakthrough gene treatment Herceptin® as well as other targeted therapies, brought new and innovative treatment approaches to women’s cancers worldwide. Monies raised have also helped numerous organizations in providing education, advocacy and outreach services to those affected by women’s cancers.
