Participating in cancer walks can be a great way to fight cancer and support those who are dealing with the challenges of cancer. Cancer affects all of us, either directly or indirectly.

If you don’t believe cancer affects you, consider these statistics. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.4 million new cases of diagnosed cancer will occur this year alone. In 2004, there were approximately 10.8 million people who had a history of cancer. Last year the cost of cancer was estimated to be over $200 Billion dollars! Cancer does affect all of us.

Cancer walks don’t only raise funds for worthy charities that battle cancer every day. They also help create an awareness and can even be used to recruit volunteers and advocates for the cause.

The purpose of each cancer walk is different. The money raised may go to a nonprofit organization that deals with many forms of cancer or one specific form. Decide where your passion is and get involved in a cancer walk that aligns with your passion.

Some of the more popular cancer walks include:

Relay for Life (American Cancer Society)
Breast Cancer 3-Day (Susan G. Komen for the Cure)
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (Avon Foundation)
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (American Cancer Society)
Lung Cancer Walk (LUNGevity Foundation)

Search out a cancer walk in your area and get involved. You can play a part in wiping out the disease and supporting those who deal with cancer until it is only a memory.

Susan G Komen Philadelphia walk tomorrow volunteer problem, HELPPPPP!?

So this is very important! My mom and I are suppose to volunteer the last day of breast cancer walk tomorrow, we first choice to do the 6 hour gear unloading but can no longer do that so we want to change shifts to the holding room but it won’t let me cancel my other shift!!! what do i do? do i just show up for the other one? all offices are closed this weekend for i’m really lost, HEEEELLLLP!!!!!

yeah it sounds like thats your only option, or just call as early as you can tomorrow and let them know. They will probably understand; I bet people frequently dont show up (and without cancelling) just make an effort to get in touch with them tomorrow, show up early and tell them in person if you have to. Save The tatas, peace….

my co workers are trying to get me walk for breast cancer awareness …

first of all i know what breast cancer is thank you. second, i don’t see how walking will help them find a cure, if you want to help finding a cure donate money to researchers
3rd, walking 60 miles will only help you and I lose weight nothing more

i hate stupid people who walk for breast cancer awareness

walking never hurt anyone and it’s a fund… the more the merrier.. what is the problem is the pink ribbon campaign where fatty processed foods are using pink ribbon labelling.. i’m like DUH isn’t this what GOT US into TROUBLE the first place?

and cancer, sorry, can’t be cured.. as long as we’re voting for degenerates for office and wars a plenty… bickering and money being used not for the intended purposes…. and cancer is a naturally occurring mutation.. unfortunately.

Cancer walks you aren’t’ required to raise money for?

I’ve been doing a lot of research on participating in a walk for cancer, but I’m struggling to find something that I don’t have to raise a few thousand dollars to qualify for. I’ve found a few small ones, but the thing is, I live in a really small town in the middle of nowhere so I’m going to have to drive several hours to get somewhere and it doesn’t really make sense for me to drive 4+ hours just to walk one mile. (Does that make me an ass?) Any suggestions would be awesome… It’s just not feasible for to raise the kind of money walks like the Susan G. Komen require. And maybe it’s rude, but I think it’s pretty low to have a required amount to raise instead of a ‘do what you can’ type of thing.

i believe susan b komen wants money mainly for themselves.when they sponsor a walk it’s to raise awareness of breast cancer so women get more mammograms,more cancer is found, and the hospitals and drug companies get ****loads of money for "treatment".i,personally would not walk for them.

How do you organize a walk for breast cancer?

My friends and I would like to organize a walk for our friend’s mom who died a year ago from breast cancer. It’s breast cancer month and we want to do something in remembrance, and something that will contribute to the cause. We were considering doing the Susan G. Komen walk for the cure, but we decided that we wanted to organize a specific walk for her. How do you organize a walk? Any links or information would be helpful, thanks.

Ever thought of contacting your local news paper or news station for advertising or announcements?? You can also go to your local church and let them know a date and time this even will take place. You can make fliers and post them on community boards and light poles in populated areas. Word of mouth is probably the best thing. Does your community have a local website where it announces activities to do in your area? Most towns do and if yours does you can most likely contact them via their website to post your even info. Just do a local search like, activities in _______. Or community activities in ___(fill in your town)__. That kind of thing. Good luck! I think its a great idea!

What should I name my breast cancer walk team?

My mom is going through treatment right now to overcome breast cancer, so we decided to make a team for family and friends to be in the breast cancer walk this summer.

Some things about us:
Her name is Teresa
We will be wearing pink
She loves peace signs
There are many people, male and female
We love profanity.

Please help us out, we want a clever name that is also cool for fundraisers.

This was an amazing experience for me. I was asked by my friend, Judy Jenkins to help her and her team with whatever they needed from documenting the event to moving their belongings from one hotel to the next. I was deeply moved and very impressed with how organized the event was. I highly recommend either walking, volunteering to help a team and definitely donating to someone that is walking.
