Brief pause to posting - tweaking the site, again……

Here we go again you say! The site has been live for about 6 weeks, and I already want to tinker with it! The main reason I am doing this is because I am not happy with the underlying code and css that the site is built on. Secondly I am wanting to tweak the design a bit; really strip back the visuals and go minimalist.....

Put 10 economists in a room and ask them the same question - chances are you will likely get 11 different answers! Well It's the same for ExpressionEngine; there are many different approaches to achieve the same goal. The Low Seg2Cat extension let me do just that today, when I wanted a quick and efficient means of grabbing the Category ID from a URL.

This site was relaunched about a month ago, so it is still fairly young. Right through the development of the redesign though, there were aspects of the site that I wasn't really comfortable with; namely the mixed typography between headers and body text. So I have decided to change the main body text to Georgia from it's original Helvetica, Arial font–stack.

Tagging content is an integral part of running a blog these days. The ability to easily organize and publish collections of content through the use of tags has benefits for both the publisher and the visitor. Whilst there are a number of tagging solutions for ExpressionEngine this Express Bite will focus on the Simple Tags extension from Utilitees

Comment Spam is a curse of the modern web, and a good Comment Spam prevention tool is worth it's weight in gold. Luckily, for users of ExpressionEngine there is already a good level of protection built in to the system. However you might want to have a look at the new EE Low NoSpam Module.

Wordpress seems to get a lot of attention as a content management platform these days; particularly on the majority of web design blogs I subscribe to. As an Expression Engine developer I thought I would do my bit to promote the Content Management System I use on a day to day basis. Starting with this entry, I will regularly post articles to the journal featuring quick tips on Expression Engine. So stay tuned for more Express Bites!
