A study has found that drinking two to three cups of coffee a day could be linked to a longer life.

The European Journal of Preventative Cardiology published their research on 27th September, named “The impact of coffee subtypes on incident cardiovascular disease, arrhythmias, and mortality“.

They looked at different coffee subtypes, such as decaf, ground and instant coffee, and then divided these into groups of Less than 1 cup, 1 cup, 2 -3 cups, 4-5 cups and more than 5 cups per day; and then compared this with people who don’t drink coffee.

A total of 449,563 participants (median 58 years, 55.3% females) were followed over 12.5 years (plus-minus 0.7 years).

Ground and instant coffee consumption was associated with a significant reduction in arrhythmia at 1–5 cups/day but was not found for decaffeinated coffee. The lowest risk was 4–5 cups/day for ground coffee.

The conclusion of the study was that decaffeinated, ground, and instant coffee, particularly at 2–3 cups/day, were associated with significant reductions in incident cardiovascular disease and mortality. Ground and instant but not decaffeinated coffee was associated with reduced arrhythmia.

That day of the year is here again; the day that people show their affection for another person or people by sending cards and buying flowers, chocolates or treats with messages of love.

And it’s a great opportunity for cafes and coffee shops to adapt their menu or practises to match this special day. We’ve put together a few ideas that we think you’ll love at first sight.

Heart Latte Art and Chocolates

Undoubtedly, the heart symbol is the universally recognised symbol of love; and there’s no better day to use it to your advantage!

A heart shape is a relatively easy shape to create with latte art; it just takes a bit of practise. We’ve written a few articles and even made a video in the past; alternatively you could opt for some Barista training to get more comfortable with steaming and foaming milk.

Barista Tips
How to make a Latte
Make a latte video

Alternatively, you could add a heart using one of our silhouette stencils, which allow you to quickly and easily create heart shapes with chocolate powder, nutmeg or cinnamon on top of your foamed milk.

Another great addition to your menu could be our traditional Belgian Bolero milk chocolates; they’re perfectly suited as a mini treat your customers will love.

Valentines Themed Drinks

Another way to get people in the V-day spirit is with themed drinks, which give customers something a bit different to try for the special day.

It’s on the annual coffee calendar – National Cappuccino Day falls on November 8th, 2019. Its a celebration of all things we love about this smooth, foamy coffee creation.

The Cappuccino is believed to have been first invented in Italy in the early 1900s, with the first recorded reference being cited as appearing in the 1930s.

However, its etymology goes even further back and comes from the word ‘cappuccio’. One of the first uses of this term is in the first part of Dante’s Divine Comedy, Inferno, and was used by the poet to describe a group of reformist friars who opted to cover themselves from head-to-toe in brown fabric.

It is from this that the word cappuccino originates as the espresso is served ‘cloaked’ in milk.

This drink is now more popular than ever before, and is now seen as a
permanent fixture on the menu boards of coffee shops all over the world.

Promotions and Special Offers

For local coffee shops, National Cappuccino Day is a great opportunity to create promotions or special offers related to the annual event. It’s an excuse to get creative and promote your coffee shop on social media, pavement signage and by word of mouth.

It’s a great day for customers to support their local coffee shops and enjoy a nice hot and delicious cup of cappuccino. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #CappuccinoDay for posting on social media on the day!

We have some great ingredients that can help you to create some amazingly delicious Bonfire Night drinks; with flavours and smells that can make that night around a bonfire just that extra bit special.

Celebrated every year on the 1st October, International Coffee Day is the date coffee lovers across the world celebrate the beverage we all love.

The idea of an annual coffee celebration has been around since the early 1980’s, however it’s only within the last 5 years that the idea of a coffee day celebrated worldwide at the same time has become popular.

Every year, coffee shops and coffee lovers alike take to social media and post pictures of their creations, their beans and even sometimes create 1-day special offers. Visiting and supporting your local coffee shop becomes even more important on this special celebratory day.

Often a focus of the day is also to promote fair trade coffees, a scheme that aims to provide the people we rely on with a fair price. Not only for their produce; but their hard work and sacrifices when growing one of our most precious commodities.

We pride ourselves in offering a wide range of Fairtrade certified products. These are selected not only for the benefits but the quality they offer.

Over the years we have acquired a wealth of knowledge when it comes to coffee, knowledge which we put to good use.

To have complete control over the quality of our coffee, all our varieties of fresh coffee beans are hand-roasted by our experienced team who make sure every single bean is roasted to perfection.

So let’s celebrate coffee – Whether you’re into the classics like an espresso, a latte, macchiato, americano or a cappuccino; or maybe you’re a fan of cold brew or iced coffee. There’s a style of coffee for everyone; get brewing!

You can find a wide range of coffee recipes as well as helpful guides in our barista tips and tricks section of the website.
