Student Placement for the 2011/2012 School Year

The beginning of Spring is a busy time in our school. We are planning for third term activities (like EQAO, Spring Concert, field trips, graduation etc.), but must also begin planning for the next school year. As our school staff begins to organize for classes in September 2011, it is important for our parents to understand the process for student placement decisions. Our ultimate goal is to provide an optimum learning environment for all students.

Helping Hands: Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Cornell Village Public School has joined the “Helping Hands” campaign in an attempt to help victims of the earthquake. We know that families have already given generously however we are encouraging the children to also reach in their own pockets and give. We are asking each child to bring in at least one loonie towards a fundraising drive. A loonie per child would mean that we will collect $730.00, while a toonie from each child would mean that we will collect $1460.00. Each child is encouraged to give as much as he/she can..

March Leaders by Example

Character Matters is an important initiative in all schools throughout the Region. The purpose of Character Education is to actively teach and promote the positive character traits that lead to developing good citizens. Each month at CVPS, we select a character trait from the YRDSB Character Matters trait list. We learn about the trait and practice it on a daily basis. At the end of each month, we have a Good News Assembly and recognize a student from each class who has demonstrated the trait and lead by example.

In 2010 the Ministry of Education launched an initiative to address issues of healthy lifestyles in our community and especially in our schools. The basis of the new policy is that all schools will need to meet a minimal standard for all foods that are sold in schools. The standards are based on 3 ingredient factors: 1) fat, 2) saturated fat, and 3) sodium.
