UI Developer at Jive Software

Location: Palo Alto, Portland, CA, OR, United States
URL: http://www.jivesoftware.com
Posted: 10/29/2009

Job Description:
About Jive Software

Why is it that it's much easier to find people, keep in touch, and get your questions answered on the Internet than inside of a company? Every day companies lose critical knowledge, ideas, and connections because it's too hard to get work done.

At Jive, we believe it doesn't have to be that way. Jive's Social Business Software (SBS) connects employees, customers, and partners to revolutionize how work gets done in the global enterprise. Thousands of companies, including some of the largest members of the Fortune 500, rely on Jive to solve the pressing business challenges of today's economy. Our record growth, top-industry rankings - we're a Gartner Magic Quadrant Visionary and Forrester Wave Leader - and strong financial backing set us apart in the fast growing SBS market. Our award-winning solutions set the standard by which the rest of the industry is measured: we have been rated number one for both our current offering and our long-range strategy.

As the SBS thought leader, we're looking for passionate, driven people who want to join with us in defining the next generation of how people work. Successful Jivers think big, are ambitious, and have a true passion for the opportunities of social software in the enterprise.

Professional Services UI Developer

We're looking for an insanely talented and versatile web designer/developer to help tailor the end-user experience of our software according to client needs. We are passionate about design, user-experience and the web and are looking for like-minded people. We need the right person to bring our web applications to life, merging form and function into something unique and usable. We need someone who lives to push pixels, is a usability and standards nut and can't wait to create the next great web app.

Job Responsibilities
Work closely with all members of the PS organization (Account Managers, Functional Leads, Engineers & QA) throughout all phases of the project lifecycle to ensure a quality deliverable
Work closely with the customer to design and implement their community vision
Implement designs using lllustrator/Photoshop, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Work with the PS engineers to assist in iterations and implementation of your designs. Also, be a teaching resource for engineers as they implement large parts of your work. You'll want them to do your brilliant work justice, after all.
About You
You love working directly with customers and you have superb customer interaction skills
You are a pixel-pushing machine, using Photoshop and Illustrator to build mockups daily. Then you cut it up and code it yourself.
You possess Yoda-like knowledge of CSS and HTML and can hand-code your way out of the nastiest problems. People seek you out to help them untangle their HTML/CSS/ issues.
You are highly standards-aware, perhaps even a bit self-conscious.
You might not be able to code a library like script.aculo.us but you know how to use it to do some amazing things. Like us, you wish "script.aculo.us" was easier to type.
You refer to the O'Reilly CSS book as "the fish book". Your copy is well used.
You're all about table-less HTML design, modular CSS, and code that degrades gracefully.
For you, the user experience is just as important as other aspects of interface design. Things like application flow, usability and simplicity are important to you.
You keep up with the latest web technologies, techniques and patterns. Sites like alistapart.com, stylegala.com, yuiblog.com, cssvault.com, stopdesign.com really get you jazzed.
Bad design drives you insane, whether it be a website or a billboard, a commercial or a box.
You hate Comic-Sans and the tag.
You work well in a fast-paced environment and thrive on challenges.
You can't wait to show us your amazing portfolio.
Required Skills and Experience

Solid background creating web applications and web sites.
You must be passionate. You have to love designing user interfaces and developing amazing web experiences.
You're self-motivated. We're looking for someone who doesn't require supervision and is capable of setting their own priorities.
You have to be open to a variety of techniques to solve problems and design solutions to work well on all types of platforms.
Server-side Java experience a plus (JSP, Servlets, etc) or experience with similar technologies such as PHP or ASP.
Cultural Requirements

Communicator: You possess strong communication skills and you enjoy working with customers.

Team-Oriented: You're capable of embracing the ideas of others (even if they conflict with your own) for the sake of the company and client.

Driven: You are a driven team player, collaborator, and relationship builder whose infectious can-do attitude inspires others and encourages great performance in a fast-moving environment.

Entrepreneurial: You thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and you're excited by the chance to play a large role.

Passionate: You must be passionate about online collaboration and ensuring our clients are successful; we love seeing hunger and ambition.

Self-motivated: You can work with a minimum of supervision and be capable of strategically prioritizing multiple tasks in a proactive manner.
