The big news today is coming straight out of Verizon as their long anticipated and very much hyped high-end Android based phone the DROID is now available on Verizon. Its $199.99 with a 2 year agreement and Verizon has set this device to compete directly with the iPhone on AT&T. Lets the battle begin and check inside for quick specs.

Verizon Release the HTC Droid Eris

Nintendo announces Nintendo DSi XL Coming to US 2010

Nintendo’s beloved portable handheld is getting another brother in its DS lineup. The DSi XL will come with dual 4.2 inch screens and will bigger overall than its other brothers becoming the bigger littler brother in the family. Some quick specs inside

Default stylus is 4 mm longer than the DSi stylus
The long “touch pen” is just about 40 mm longer than the DSistylus
Weighs approximately 50% more than the DSi/Lite
1 – 3 hrs more battery life than DSi, depending on screen brightness
3 hour charge (same as DS Lite, 30 mins longer than DSi

Twikini is a twitter app for windows mobile which puts its focus on speed and reliability. Does this app stand up as one of the top twitter clients for windows mobile?

Twikini is a great windows mobile twitter client. It’s fast and lightweight. It’s an app that is built for windows mobile from the ground up which allows it to have great speed and functionality. It allows you to keep up to date with all your twitter feeds, post updates and view pictures a GPS maps.

On the main screen you will see all of your twitter feeds and while it looks like its finger friendly it’s only really by so much. The developers have been working on this feature to improve it with more windows mobile devices coming out with lager screens and more touch friendly. You basically have all the same functionality as you do is the desktop .You can send out new tweets, retweet, @reply or Direct message with options to add your GPS location and send out pictures via TwitPic integration that will also allow you to view pics within the app and grab a bigger version of the picture and if you click on any GPS location it will allow you go view it on a embedded version of Google maps within the app.

Twikini has a 14 day trial and has the advantage of working on touch screen and non-touch screen windows mobile phones. It’s a great app and I would recommend giving it a try. It’s $5 for the full version if you go to the website but currently its $0.99 in the windows mobile marketplace so the price is a big confusing but for the price its worth giving it a try.

TouchTwit App Review

TouchTwit is a new twitter application for windows mobile. It aims at providing great features with a solid interface and design. Let’s see if TouchTwit gets the job done

TouchTwit works on Windows Mobile 6.0 and above and supports finger gestures when going between tweets. The program allows you to not only keep track of who you are following but it also allows you to track your @replies, direct messages and profile. The application has TwitPic and TwitVid support, GPS coordinates and short URL support for when you send links in your updates. The app gives you lots of great features to give you a desktop like experience on your phone.

The app also has a great finger friendly interface which looks smooth and modern and runs pretty quickly although the app does load up a bit slow but I’m sure updates will fix that issue. The interface is by far the best looking I’ve seen on any windows mobile app and it runs so well that you hope other windows mobile app developers follow this app as a guideline to design their apps

TouchTwit is available only in the Windows Mobile Marketplace for $5. While some may say that’s a lot for a paid app I believe this app is worth all of the $5 it charges for it. The quality is superb and I highly recommend this app.

HTC announced Android 2.0 will be available for the HTC Hero

HTC announced via their twitter account that Android 2.0 will be made available to the HTC Hero. They will skip 1.6 and will go straight to work on developing HTC Sense to work with Android 2.0. Lets hope that all device will get the 2.0 update to keep this uniform among all android phones.

BooredAtWork has great android app reviews and the got another one up for you bloggers out there. Mobile blogging made easy on Android with WpToGo app. This app allows you to connect to your wordpress based blog from your phone. BooredAtWork has a great video review of the app and it something I wish we had on the windows mobile side. A Windows Live Writer mobile maybe? Windows Mobile Marketplace

Windows Mobile Marketplace is finally available for Windows Mobile. Microsoft has decided to step into the app store game with the Blackberry, Apple, Andorid phones of the world (its about time). This app store will be a welcomed edition to the windows mobile ecosystem and will make it easier for users to find apps for their phones.

Currently its only available officially through Windows Mobile 6.5 but someone out there in the hacker would has found a way to extract the cab out of windows mobile 6.5 and make it available to Windows Mobile 6.1 users. The apps are included in all 3 Bowman Packs in the download section. Check out the video below

HTC Straight Talk

Another cool feature of the HTC Touch Pro 2 is Straight Talk. Its a great feature that allows you switch between the speakerphone and earpiece just by putting the phone face down. Its a great feature for business users and also regular users to access the speakerphone quickly for hands free talking if bluetooth headphones are not readily available.
