Dear Neighbor:

Butler University is proud to host the 32nd annual Dick Lugar Community Run & Walk on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, beginning with registration at 6:45 a.m. The event includes a 5K run, a 5K race walk/fitness walk and a 10K run as well as a health and fitness fair at the Butler University Health and Recreation Complex (HRC) from 7-11 a.m. that is free and open to the public.

To keep you informed, we wanted to share with you a copy of the course for the events, which is on the back of this letter, and the general start times. The events schedule is as follows:

6:45-8:15 a.m. Registration/packet pickup in the Health and Recreation Complex
7:45 a.m. 10 K run begins outside Hinkle Fieldhouse
8:15 a.m. 5K run begins
8:20 a.m. 5K race walk and fitness walk begins
8:50 a.m. CYO 3K run begins
9:45 a.m. Awards ceremony

As in the past, some roads will be temporarily blocked off as the race goes through. All roads that are closed will reopen immediately after the last participant in the category has passed through. All roads should be back to full function no later than 10 a.m.

We invite our neighbors to participate in the run and the health fair. The Indiana Pacers’ Fan Van will be there, Butler’s HRC will do activities for kids from 8:15-9:30 in one of its multi-purpose rooms and Butler’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will be offering blood pressure screenings and wallet cards for tracking medications.

BTNA Candidates Forum Covered in Indy Star

On August 11, 2010, the Boards of the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association and the Meridian Kessler Neighborhood Association held a “Meet the Candidates” event for candidates for Marion County Sheriff and Prosecutor. All four candidates, John Layton (Democrat) and Dennis Fishburn (Republican) for Sheriff, and Terry Curry (Democrat) Mark Massa (Republican) for Prosecutor, participated. The event was hosted by John Ketzenberger (of Indiana Week in Review) and covered by the Indianapolis Star; you can find the article (“Sheriff, Prosecutor Candidates Sound off at Forum”) here.

Clean out your basement and garage…the Butler Tarkington All-Neighborhood Garage Sale is back!

The Butler Tarkington Neighborhood Association will place an ad in the Indianapolis Star, telling people to visit the neighborhood on Saturday, August 14, starting at 8:00 am. All you have to do is place signs directing people to your place, and you are set!

We have had great success in the past, so please tell your neighbors. The more that participate, the better for all of us!
