His ears are small and folded, his eyes, low and round, and wide apart. He has a short neck and a lot of loose skin. His chest is broad and his limbs are strong but separated one from the other. His hair is short, tight and generally reddish.

He is loyal and calm but he needs constant discipline. He might be unpredictable if not taught from an early age. He also needs a moderate amount of exercise but not to be exposed to major temperatures, since this may cause breathing problems.

When the puppy is bred in a healthy and reasonable environment, the bulldog may well be a suitable dog for a family. He has a cheerful, amicably temper. He enjoys playing with kids and his patience and stubbornness make him particularly funny to play with.

Even though it is a strong animal and has a great capacity to respond quickly, and as such they may serve for security purposes, he adapts thoroughly well to families. Due to his size, it is suitable for apartments or small houses.

Bulldog puppies are so appealing that there are even web pages of fans all around the globe. They even gather and share pictures of these lovely creatures, or as they want to call them, members of the family.

There are organisations that occasionally present puppies for different competitions, such as the show ring, field, home and obedience ring. These organisations have web pages that show these puppies and their pedigree. So, beforehand, you should have the certificates their parents were given, and you can also view the little fellows before deciding on buying one of them. Or you can just simply enjoy the view, and look at the photos showing these wonderful creatures at different ages, with different colours and expressions.
But what children don't know is that bulldogs are extremely loyal and sweet natured creatures. But because they have a fierce look, they are probably one of the most misunderstood dogs in the animal kingdom.

Not all dogs make great playmates for kids. Children don't know how to hold back during play, and this may result in overly rough play. The pup thinks that it is alright to behave in a similar manner during playtime, and starts biting harder and harder. Other puppies may be able to withstand such levels of rough play, but for ordinary children, they may get injured.

In addition, some dogs have fiery tempers. Little dogs like terriers look cute but they can fly into a terrible rage when provoked. During play, young children don't know when to stop. So they may end up provoking the dogs and getting themselves injured.

If you are considering buying a pup as a playmate for your children, these are the 2 most important factors to consider. A pup can be a great companion only if it possesses the right qualities. And what are these qualities? You want an animal that does not have a fierce temper, and is not overly energetic. The bulldog possesses such traits, which makes them perfect for the children.

Moreover, bulldogs take a slightly longer time than most dogs to mature. They remain fun loving and playful for about 24 months - about 2 years. That means you children get to enjoy their playful personalities for a longer period of time. Children sometimes grow bored of pups that grow up to become big, strong adults. They realize that their adorable little pets no longer look cute and cuddly.

The main reason why bulldogs are ideal for children is because they behave in a very predictable manner. Because they don't have a fiery temper, you can expect their behavioral patterns to be stable. The bulldog pup, however, does need quite a fair bit of attention when it's very young. But it's demands for attention is only temporary. When it grows older, it will be able to spend more time by itself. Mostly, it will just laze around, waiting for its owner to shower it with some attention every now and then.

Some people think that bulldogs are lazy simply because they see them lazing around. But bulldogs are known to behave in a very rational manner. They don't react or respond unnecessary. For some overly active dogs, they seem to jump at every sound or command. This is cumbersome behavior that the owners have to deal with. The bulldog will just wait patiently for its turn to come. That is why they not only make perfect pets for children. They are also ideal family pets.
For example, some owners have young children in the house. And when their pets play rough, they end up hurting the children. Then there are owners who lead very busy lives, and have little time for play and exercise. As a result, their active pets become unhappy due to lack of exercise.

Much of this problems could be avoided. The key is to preventing potential problems is to understand the dog before bringing it home. Try not to make a buying decision based purely on appearances alone. Outward appearances reveal very little about a pup's inner world. Different dog breeds have different personalities. To make matters worse, even dogs belonging to the same breed can have very different personalities. If choosing the right dog poses a problem for you, perhaps you can consider buying a bulldog.

Buying a bulldog would be a much safer bet because bulldogs are well known to be very stable pets. They don't react excessively like some active dogs do. An adult bulldog can look very fierce, but it is really a sweet nature animal. Of course, when provoked or threatened, it can grow aggressive. But under ordinary circumstances, the animal is a rather sociable one. However, the face of this particular animal may appear "ugly" to some, especially children. If you worry about your children not being able to accept the appearance of the dog, try buying a puppy. All puppies are cute and adorable, and that includes bulldog puppies.

Being stable doesn't mean the animal has a boring personality. In fact, bulldogs are known to mature at a slower rate than most other breeds. It may take as long as 24 months for this dog to reach adulthood. In the meantime, while it is growing up, it remains a fun and playful companion.

The bulldog does not demand attention all the time. When left alone, it can be perfectly contented just lying around patiently. This is because it doesn't have the energy levels of sports dog. For most pet owners, this is the ideal situation. A dog that requires constant attention can take up a lot of time and effort.

And because of this trait, many people come to the conclusion that the bulldog is a lazy dog. But this is an incorrect observation. Being contented is different from being lazy. The animal doesn't display a reluctance to play or exercise. It just has this unique ability to wait patiently for play time to come. When the owner has free time for the dog, the pet is more than happy to take walks or play with its owner.

So if you are looking for a stable animal as a loyal companion, consider buying a bulldog. This pet will fit into most lifestyles and is the ideal companion for both big and small families. With their good nature, they can be incredibly gentle with young children as well.
In fact for at least a hundred years the breed has been a favorite among people. Originally the British used the Bulldog as a fighting dog to help protect their livestock. The breed became a favorite when bullfighting was popular because of their strong bite. The breed's solid and muscular appearance comes from their characteristically large head and strong, square build. They have a strong and undershot jaw that helps them to get their strong bite and a short and square muzzle which gives them their strong appearance.

Although despite this ferocious look and dominant personality, English Bulldog puppies are actually quite gentle towards their owners. Before deciding if English Bulldog puppies are right for you and your household there are a few aspects of the breed that you should consider. It is important that you choose a breed of dog that matches what you are looking for since everyone is different and every dog is different.
When it comes to children, English Bulldog puppies are very patient and tolerant. In fact, over the years the Bulldog has become one of the best suitable breeds for children. The breed isn't known for complaining so they will often play with the children and won't get irritated easily if the children accidentally hurt them.

When it comes to strangers and other dogs the Bulldog is very tenacious and dominant. So if English Bulldog puppies want to go after something they will pursue it persistently and aggressively. This dominant characteristic is always displayed even if the Bulldog is in the presence or territory of another dog. This can lead to dog fights if you aren't careful and maintain full control of English Bulldog puppies.

Needless to say if you are looking for a guard dog then the Bulldog is the right breed for you. Intruders will definitely be scared off by their ferocious look and aggressive attitude. Although they make good guard dogs they aren't the best for warning since they don't usually bark or give a warning before they attack.

However, there are also disadvantages to the tolerant behavior of English Bulldog puppies. English Bulldog puppies don't readily express themselves when injured, feeling ill, thirsty, hungry or simply cold. Therefore, you will need to be perceptive to your dogs behavior in order to catch medical conditions before they become too severe since you dog will rarely tell you that something is wrong. Restraint can also be difficult if you don't properly train them from an early age because of this behavior.

Also English Bulldog puppies have a high sense of right and wrong which means that if they believe they are unjustly punished they will sulk for days. It can be difficult dealing with headstrong English Bulldog puppies if you don't have energy and patience. So if this doesn't sound like something for you then you might want to consider a more placid and less dominant dog breed. Although it is important to keep in mind that these are just general temperaments and each dog is different so you may still be able to find the right Bulldog for you.
Typically, Bulldog puppies will show a sweet temper and are ideal family pet dogs as well as excellent show dogs The Bulldog gets its name from the fact that they were originally meant to guard bait bulls. Though the Bulldog is a descendant of the Mastiff-type dog also known as Bandog, Mollusus and Alaunt, Bulldog puppies will be gentler as well as more placid than their forefathers who were basically fighting dog.

For those who are looking for English Bulldog puppies for sale, they must first of all be ready to make a commitment for life and also choose this breed if they are sure that they are capable of providing for the upkeep and welfare of Bulldog puppies. And then choosing a reputable breeder from whom to obtain the Bulldog puppies is next, followed by selecting the appropriate puppy.

Without a doubt, Bulldog puppies can easily win over your heart and mind, and so you need to take care that you in turn can provide proper Bulldog puppy care after you have brought home your newly acquired puppy. In addition, you need to be very careful about where you source the puppies from because despite the fact that you will come across many different sources offering English Bulldog puppies for sale, not all of them will be able to provide you with the proper kind of Bulldog puppies.

Whoever is selling Bulldog puppies must be able to provide satisfactory answers as to breed ethics and they should also provide references of previous customers as this will help ensure that you know for sure that the Bulldog puppies on offer will be of acceptable quality. In addition, you need to check and be sure that the kennel in which they were being raised was clean and that the puppies appear to be healthy and also in good spirits.

After taking everything into account, you will find that those who are offering English Bulldog puppies for sale have their own methods of breeding these dogs and so, to be on the safe side, you should try only reputable breeders because they will be the ones that follow best breeding standards and who also will enforce the proper ethics while also ensuring that the Bulldog puppies are given proper veterinary care, whenever required. Obviously, there would be nothing worse than having to abandon or give away your newly acquired Bulldog puppies because they fell short on account of health and other desirable characteristics.

You can also be sure that since breeding Bulldogs is a costly affair and profit margins are low, not many people will go in for Bulldog breeding just for the kick of it, though at the same time you need to be wary of puppy mills and pet stores as well as backyard breeders who may breed these excellent animals just to make a profit out of their breeding efforts. A breeder or source that can document the puppy's vaccinations and who can show that the Bulldog puppies possess good temperament and health should be given preference over the others.
A Beabull can put all your concerns to rest. A mix between a Beagle and a Bulldog, the Beabull is among the most popular hybrid breeds. If you're looking for a dog that you can kiss and cuddle continuously, a Beabull is the right choice for you!

Beabull Puppies: How to Choose the Right One

Mixed breed dogs are generally healthier and are not predisposed to certain ailments like their purebred counterparts. A Beabull has distinct physical features and behavioral traits that can help you make your decision.

Here are a few pointers that will help you decide:

* A Beabull inherits the best features of its purebred parents. This is apparent in its long muzzle and big brown eyes that resemble its Beagle mother. It can also be recognized from its English Bulldog-like wrinkled coat and occasional underbite.

* The Beabull's temperament is influenced by its parents as well. This breed is very affectionate and loyal. Beabulls are also stubborn like their parents. Like Beagles, they have a strong sense of smell.

* This breed makes a great family pet. Beabulls love children and are very playful. If you are a jogging enthusiast, a Beabull is sure to be your best companion. Although Beabulls get very excited while playing, they are even-tempered and non-aggressive. Beabulls are good jumpers.

* Beabulls usually give a howl like the Beagle mother, but rarely bark.

* Most Beabulls are a combination of three colors, fawn, tan and white. They may also have hints of yellow. While the coat on the sides is soft, that on the back can be a little coarser.

* Beabulls love to chew. It's a good idea to keep it busy with enough toys, unless you want your rugs to disappear in no time!

* If your apartment is small, Beabulls are the ideal choice. A Beabull typically stands between 12 and 16 inches and weighs between 20 and 51 pounds.

With its stocky stature, massive head and dense folds of skin on its forehead, an English Bulldog is among the cutest of pets. This friendly breed also makes a good guard dog.

English Bulldog Puppies: How to Choose One

Popular since the late seventieth century (for bull-baiting in Britain), the English Bulldog is the official mascot of the US Marine Corps. There a several factors that you must consider before buying an English Bulldog puppy.

What you must know about the breed

* An adult English Bulldog can grow to 16 inches and weigh between 50 and 60 pounds. It has a square and muscular build, with a wide head and shoulders. Its dark round eyes and droopy lips make dog lovers swoon over it.

* Although a bulldog has an unfriendly and aggressive expression, it is in fact very docile and tolerant. Its appearance makes the English Bulldog a good guard dog. It is easily aggravated by the presence of other breeds. However, its patient temperament makes it a good companion for children, as the bulldog never gets irritated even if they are accidentally hurt by your kids.

* A bulldog rarely barks, even as a warning of imminent danger. If there's an intruder in your house, the dog may attack immediately without even barking.

* English Bulldogs are susceptible to respiratory diseases, allergies and heat strokes. They usually have weak eyesight and snore noisily.

Choosing the English Bulldog puppy

* Color: You have a wide choice of colors, including brown, white, black, fawn, rich red or patches of these shades.

* Meet the parents: Get acquainted with the dam (mother) and sire (father) of the puppy. If they are calm and friendly, there is a high probability of the puppy having the same temperament.

* Vaccination: You should ensure that the puppy is up to date with all its shots and is registered.

The most convenient way of choosing an English Bulldog puppy for sale is through an online puppy match network like Puppy Match 4 You. This website displays a wide range of puppies that have been carefully selected from professional breeders across the US. Puppies come with either a UKC or an AKC registration and a one-year health guarantee. With a reputed name guaranteeing the puppy's health and temperament, you needn't go through the hassle of assessing the parents or the breeder.

They have a generally docile, if stubborn, attitude. Their temperament is friendly, but their sour expression and muscular build probably reveals much more about their history.

English Bulldogs were probably bred from Mastiffs in the late 1500s. There is some dispute about this subject. It is also possible that both Mastiffs and English Bulldogs were bred from the Alaunt. Some even believe that Mastiffs are the ancestor of the English Bulldog. Regardless of their origin, we know that these dogs were bred to be stocky, strong, low, and fast. These features allowed them to do just what their name implies-fight bulls.

Although pretty unthinkable now, English Bulldogs were initially bred for a gambling sport that involved killing bulls-and sometimes bears! In a sport known as bullbaiting, a bull would be tied to a post and the dog would attempt to bring the bull down and kill it. It usually did so by latching onto the bull's muzzle until it suffocated or bled to death. The high and recessed nose of the English Bulldog allowed it to continue breathing as it remained latched onto the bull's nose. Even if the Bulldog was knocked out by the bull, its jaws would remain latched onto the bull's snout, still allowing it to 'win' the fight. Not a pretty mental image, especially when you think about the great pets that English Bulldogs make today.

Luckily, bullbaiting was outlawed in the United Kingdom by the Cruelty to Animals act of 1835. Breeders realized that English Bulldogs could no longer perform the task that they were bred for. The solution was to cross the English Bulldog with a pug. This created a more agreeable breed of dog that was promoted as a pet. Although modern English Bulldogs still look stocky and tough, they certainly could no longer fight bulls. Their body types would no longer sustain the trauma of being thrown by a bull. Which is just as well for most of us!

English Bulldogs have become better and better pets over the years. They are now great animals to have in the house. There are many quality breeders offering English Bulldog puppies. But while they are generally great with people, their build and tenacity still makes them a symbol of strength. Just look at the many sports teams who use English Bulldogs as their mascot!

About the Author
Pam Altic operates a Show kennel in Southwest Missouri. The name indicates that France is the country of origin, but the Americans and British may have played a larger part in development of the breed. The breed is commonly called the Frenchie. Also known as "clowns" and frog dogs. History and origin While theories abound about the exact origin of the French Bulldog, the most prevalent opinion is that around the mid-1800s Normandy lace workers from England took smaller bulldogs with them when they sought work in France. In the farming communities north of France that the lace workers settled in, the little bulldogs became very popular as ratters and loyal family companions and their population began to swell. These little bulldogs were in fact "culls" of the established bulldog breeders in England, who were generally more than happy to sell these undersized examples of their breed to fanciers of the "new" breed in England. This was especially true of the "tulip" eared puppies that cropped up at times in bulldog litters. French bulldogs were originally bred as ratters, but are now bred as lap dogs and companions. The magazine "Country Life", in the 29 April 1899 takes up the story: "Some five-and-thirty years ago in fact, [i.e. about 1865], the small-sized or light-weight Bulldog was common in this country; so much so that dogs of the breed that scaled over 28lbs were not encouraged at such shows as Birmingham, which was at that period the most important exhibition of its kind in England. Then by some freak of fashion the Toy Bulldog became all the rage in Paris, with the result that the celebrated Bill George, of Canine Castle, Kensal New Town, the most eminent dog dealer of his or any other day, received carte blanche commissions from French customers to procure them light-weight Bulldogs, and by this means England was denuded of all the best specimens".
See complete details with images at http://nice-pet-10.blogspot.com/

About the Author
Fazal Zubair

Make sure you are buying your puppy from a quality breeder. With google search listing over 7 million results for "American Bulldog Breeder" you definitely have your work cut out for you. I have compiled a list of useful information and questions you should ask your breeder before making your purchase.

1. Always, always, always make sure they have their adult or breeding stock dogs clearly displayed on their website or can email pictures. I have been told by so many puppy buyers that they were scammed. They bought an adorable puppy only to have a VERY UGLY adult bulldog. NEWSFLASH... all puppies are adorable, all puppies are sweet, a lot of mixed breed bulldogs look like bulldogs when they are young. Do yourself a favor and take a look at the parents, if you don't like them then pass on the puppy. If you love the dad and the mom is not so nice, skip that breeding too!!!!! You want to be proud of what is on the end of your leash.

2. Don't buy an American Bulldog puppy from a single picture. Make sure you see your puppy from all different angles. The breeder may not have these pictures on their website, but they will have them... so ask for some more pictures so you can make your decision. You are already doing the impossible...picking out a dog on pictures alone, so get more pictures so you can make the best decision possible.

3. Make sure you actually TALK to your breeder, I have heard many horror stories over the years from people that got scammed by fake breeders. If they don't have a telephone number then they more than likely don't have any "real" puppies for sale. If your breeder is local and they won't let you come over and take a look at all of the puppies don't be alarmed! Diseases and viruses are a breeders worst nightmare. I have seen entire kennels just about wiped out because something was brought onto their yard. If you do go to a breeders kennel be courteous, offer to wash your hands and shoes before touching any of the dogs. AND... if you have recently been around a puppy with Parvo DO NOT go to another breeder's kennels! Parvo is very contagious, and is easily transported on your your hands or even your shoes.

4. "Google" their name... you will be surprised what information is just sitting out there on google. With the new world of myspace, facebook, and blogs you are bound to run across them and can see what others are saying. With that said internet research is so unregulated that not everything you read is not true. People's opinions are just that, an opinion... so read everything you find and form your own opinions. If you do read something that you are questioning just ask your breeder about it, there are always 2 sides to every story and both sides need to be heard to form your own opinion. (side note: don't believe ANYTHING you see on ripoffreport.com WHY? go here to see why: http://www.reportsripoff.com/index.php

5. Reputable breeders don't sell to just anyone! If your breeder does not get "personal" with you they are most likely a "puppy mill". Your breeder should take an interest in you, your family, and where the bulldog is going to spend the rest of it's life. I personally like to know where my puppy is going, will it live inside or outside, are there any other pets, how much property will they be living on, are the new owners experienced dog owners, are the new owners planning on breeding the puppy later, are there any children in the home? It is important that the puppies personality blends well with you and your family.

6. OK... my BIGGEST PET PEEVE... Make sure your breeder does not breed PUPPIES !!!!!!!! I have ran across american bulldog breeders (you know who you are) that breed young females. Make sure the mother of the puppies is at least 2 years old (or very close to 2). Why? There are a ton of genetic conditions that don't surface until a bulldog reaches maturity. Also, breeding a 1 year old PUPPY is like a 12 year old having a baby, it is just not healthy!

7. Make sure your breeder really genuinely loves the breed. Your breeder should be very knowledgeable about bulldog history and pedigrees. This shows true dedication and years of great research on their part. Knowing their dogs and the generations behind them will help to ensure you have a breeder that cares about what the outcome of their breeding program is.

8. I personally have a clause in my puppy contact that requires you to keep me informed with the puppies whereabouts for it's entire life. Breeder-Buyer relationships shows that a breeder stands behind their breeding program and wants to create a relationship with the new owner. If the breeder cares anything about the breed and their breeding program they will want to keep track of where all their puppies are going and make sure they have a great forever home.

9. So, you don't want a really rowdy puppy because of the new baby, or you LOVE to run 5 miles a day and want a running partner. Your breeder should be able to steer you toward a particular puppy or breeding to accommodate your wants and needs. Yes, every puppy has a distinct personality and activity levels will change, but a breeder should know the generations behind what they are breeding to get a great idea of the outcome.

10. Always ask your breeder why they chose to breed the dogs together. Were they looking for a particular color, size, temperament, activity level? If they don't have a clue then they probably just "stuck 2 together" for the all mighty dollar.

About the Author
Boneheads Bullies is an American Bulldog Breeder located in Pensacola Florida. What else should she do?

The first thing I told my friend that she needs to start doing as soon as possible is to start training her English Bulldog.

I recommended that she start crate training him from the beginning. The dog should sleep in the crate every night.

This will get him used to the idea of sleeping in the crate, and reduce the effect of separation anxiety.

As the English Bulldog gets older he may continue to sleep in the crate ( obviously my friend would buy a bigger one).

Seperation anxiety isn't just suffered by the dog.

After buying a crate and putting the puppy in it to sleep, she felt bad and took him out to sleep with her. This is NOT a good idea.

You must be clear in your actions, once you do something with a dog that involves training.

Dogs like this. No matter how bad you feel, you MUST follow through.

To help with the toilet issue a good idea is to take him for a walk to toilet before bed, and first thing in the morning.

If you can't talk him for a walk, then take him outside for toilet instead.

This is a form of enforcement which is very effective. Of course, little puppies need to go toilet quite often, so it is a good idea to buy a large absorbent mat, or mats, that you can put in certain corners of the house or apartment.

It's dedication on your part to train your dog to use those mats.

You need to watch his behavior and when he is acting like he needs to go, pick him up and put him on the mat.

The following is a list of five things that I suggested that my friend do to help her:

The work that goes into owning a puppy can be very stressful. The results from good training cannot be underestimated.

1) Exercise you dog everyday - Puppies have a lot of energy. Regular exercise does two things.

Firstly it establishes a routine - so make sure it is always about the same time. Secondly this helps get a lot of their energy out and it really does reduce their need to cause trouble at home (i.e. chew stuff).

2) Once he gets a little older, start bringing him to dog parks so that he will become very dog friendly right from the start.

The more contact dogs have with other dogs and people the better trained he will be, and there will be less issues when friends come to visit your apartment.

There is nothing worse than a dog that barks at EVERYTHING

3) Bring small children around him ASAP. This will help him get used to children's smaller stature, as well as them tugging on his ears/tail, loud sudden noises that children make, etc.

It's good to get your dogs exposes to all these things early on - before they become an 80lb solid mass of muscle with gigantic sharp teeth!

4) Start touching and petting his food while he is eating it.

Your English Bulldog will, over time, allow you to take the food bowl away and pet him while he is eating without any resistance.

5) Correct your puppy only at the exact moment he's done something wrong, not an hour later.

That way he will know what to expect from you the next time you correct him when he has done something wrong.

As I mentioned earlier, dogs like boundaries and dont respond well to confusion.

There is no point shouting at him about toileting on the carpet 1 hour after it has happened.

As soon as he starts to smell around and look for a place to toilet, put him on a leash and take him outside so that he can relieve himself.

If my friend follows these simple ideas, her English Bulldog will become a well-trained, extremely sociable dog that will love to be around other dogs, people and small children.

About the Author
David Crocombe is a dog trainer and has a 6 month old puppy. They were originally bred as ratters, but are now bred as lap dogs and companions. The breed is commonly called the Frenchie, also known as "clowns" and frog dogs. They love to clown around and can run and play for hours.

French Bulldog Puppies is a compact, muscular dog with a smooth coat, solid bone structure with a flat powerful muzzle and a pug nose. A valued companion and watchdog, the French bulldog stands 11 to 12 inches (28 to 30 cm) and ideally weighs no more than 28 pounds (13 kg). His physical appearance is characterized by naturally occurring large and erect 'bat ears' that are wide at the base and rounded at the top. The head is large and square with round sharp eyes. The tails is naturally short, not cropped, straight or screwed. The short, soft, easy-care coat comes in brindle, fawn, white and combinations of brindle or fawn with white.

Frenchies prefer cooler climates. Overheating this dog may cause heat stroke so proper shade and water should always be provided. This breed may drool and slobber; however a good percentage of them do not. If too overweight, they may have trouble breathing, because of a swollen abdomen. This breed is an average shedder so very little grooming is needed. Due to their small size they are good for apartment life. They can be fairly active indoors and have fairly minimal exercise needs, but do require at least daily walks. Walks should be kept short and the dog should be allowed breaks when walking long distances. They mature slowly and their life span ranges 12 and 14 years.

French Bulldog Puppies are slow learners and can be somewhat willful so consistent training is required. One very important thing to remember is consistency of signals. The reliability of the training depends on how well a dog is able to be sure of what your signals mean. They need companionship and will not thrive without it. They often bond strongly to one person. Given proper socialization the French Bulldog can do well with other dogs, but should not be around small children, as they do not tolerate rough play. Their skin is quite soft making them very appealing to pet. Prized for their affectionate natures and even dispositions, they are generally active and alert, but not unduly boisterous. Very comical little dogs they are always great for a good laugh and long friendship.

About the Author
For more information about French Bulldog Puppies , please visit : http://www.pets4you.com .

The English Bulldog in particular is one of the most favored breeds of dog, and for good reason. After all, they are very loyal, affectionate, and even tempered dogs, and so they are suitable for all people, even those with larger sized families. If you are interested in getting an English Bulldog yourself, then you are going to have to find yourself some reputable English Bulldog breeders.

Before committing to a puppy you want to make sure that you are dealing with a responsible dog breeder. This is a breeder who actually cares about their dogs and who is educated and knowledgeable about the breed. You want to find a breeder that offers health guarantees and who has the credentials and paperwork to back up their reputation. Of course if you are buying a dog you want to make sure that you are getting a happy and healthy dog, one that is not going to end up being sickly or having behavioral problems.

When you are looking for English Bulldog breeders there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind. For one you should set out a sort of standard of care before even heading out to meet any breeders, so you will know what you should be looking for and how to tell which breeders to avoid. One of the most suspicious things a breeder can do is not allow you to meet the mother dog.

Typically when a breeder is unwilling to introduce the mother dog to potential buyers it means that the dog sickly and they know that this would obviously discourage buyers. You should always ask a breeder to provide you with necessary paperwork and other credentials to back up their reputation, so you can make sure they are legitimate and reputable. You should also be prepared for a breeder to ask just as many questions as you, at least those that actually care about their dogs and who want to ensure their puppies will be going to a suitable home.

English Bulldogs are truly fantastic dogs and make wonderful pets, but it is imperative that you take the time to find the right English Bulldog breeders. This process can often become rather intimidating, but by keeping a few of the most important tips in mind you should have great success here.

Remember for one that professional dog breeders do not breed frequently, and rather they only do so when a pair of dogs is found to be healthy and have a favorable temperament. That is because this is the only way to ensure the birth of healthy offspring. There are some breeders, better known as mass breeders, who will breed as often as they can because their only aim is to sell as many puppies as they can as quickly as they can in order to make the most money in return. Also understand that even after you have gone through the process of finding a breeder you may still have to wait for your puppy because there will often be a long waiting list.

Bobby Callahan has dealt with dog breeders in the past and understands that it is worth it to put effort into the process of finding a breeder. There are some great Bulldog breeders out there, and it may just take a bit of time for you to be able to sort the bad apples out of this group. The details on how to find a Bulldog breeder is some of the most important Bulldog information you can ever learn.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Bobby_Callahan

So when I see ads in the newspaper or online that read “Olde English Bulldog Puppy for Sale” I think to myself…”this is great, but how many of these owners are actually prepared for the task ahead?”

You see the problem with any breed of dog, especially English Bulldogs, is that they not only specific training that will compliment the breed exclusively, but that a trained eye is needed to pick the best pup to start with. Unlike many other larger and more popular breeds of dogs, you can’t just come up to an English Bulldog breeder and just pick up you’re new bulldog puppy. You have to know exactly what to look for and where to look for it, or you and you’re new puppy will pay the price in the long run.

This article is just a small glimpse of the knowledge you’ll need to acquire, and more research will have to take place after you’ve read this article, but it will be fun and easy research…I promise you that! Without further delay, here are some basic things that you need know and think about before you act on that new “Olde English Bulldog Puppy for Sale” ad:

When it comes to looking for bulldogs, the main topic that has to be on you’re mind is you’re future dogs past, current and future health. English bulldogs are great animals that make wonderful pets, but like most pure breed dogs, have a higher risk for many certain health problems. It is very important that before you act upon any ads or waste you’re time visiting a breeder, that you call ahead of time to verify the breeders reputation and the background of the both the puppies and their genetic bloodline. It would be best if you can find a line of certified pure breed champion bulldogs. The next step is to find out the health history of you’re puppy’s parents and siblings.

Another very important topic of discussion, and what that I almost never see anyone mention is the puppy’s initial behavior towards you and the other dogs, it is very important that you know what to look for when you see the pups in person. The English bulldog by nature is a very sweet dog that is extremely compassionate and very much a close companion to its human owners. However, it is this character trait that could lead to trouble from the get go. Depending on the puppy’s parents and the breeders personality, it can become too timid, compassionate, and too dependent on its owner. This trait, more then many others, proves to be the start of many behavioral problems in the future.

Last but absolutely not least, before you jump on yet another “Olde English Bulldog Puppy for Sale” ad, make sure you take a good hard look at who you are as an owner as well. The English bulldog makes for a wonderful pet, but like with any other breed of dog, the dog must and owner must match…in personality terms that is. The English bulldog is not a dog that will need lots of exercise or stimulation of a physical nature, it’s actually rather lazy in a sense, but it will need constant grooming and a bath every now and then. For most dog owners, this is a perfect match, for others, they want a dog that they can take on 5 mile trail runs with them everyday. If you’re someone who is very physically active and want to keep you’re dog with you at all times, then this might not be the perfect breed for you.

Remember, some more studying on you’re part as a future English Bulldog owner should be done, but it will be easy and fun research! There are many resources that can help you, but only a few good recommended ones. So before you once again jump on that “Olde English Bulldog Puppy for sale” ad…do you’re homework, I promise it will be worth every minute and dollar you put into it!

English Bulldogs, are not the easiest dogs to investigate, good valuable and in depth information can be very scarce. I promise you, based on all my years of experience that if you don’t take the necessary steps to educate yourself on this or any breed, you’ll end up paying the price in the long run, you owe it to yourself and you’re future pet. http://www.squidoo.com/oldeenglishbulldogpuppyforsale

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mikee_Dunn

This breed originated from China thus also called the Chinese shar pei.

The name shar pei, which also means sand-skin, sand-coat or shark-skin was given due to this breed's deep wrinkles and short, rough coat. Shar pei puppies have several wrinkles. These wrinkles come in two varieties; large of folds of wrinkles even into adulthood and the other variation wherein the skin appears tighter on its body with wrinkles just on the face and at the withers. But regardless of the amount or variety of wrinkles a puppy has, these wrinkles decrease as the shar pei matures.

The coat comes in three different types namely the horse coat, brush coat and the bear coat, with the latter regarded as the rarest coat and is not recognized by the AKC though sharpeis with bear coat are quite popular as pets. A bear coat shar pei can occur in any litter. The horse coat type is rough to the touch, extremely prickly and can be irritating when petting in the opposite direction of the fur. Brush coat shar pei on the other hand have slightly longer hair and a smoother feel.

This breed comes in various colors such as fawn, red (rose), sand, cream, black, lilac and blue, all of these must be solid and sable in order to be accepted by the American Kennel Club. Spotted, brindle, parti-colored or patterned and color such as albino are not recognized by the AKC.

The shar pei breed is recognized not only because of the great amount of wrinkles. This breed is also recognized because of the blue-black tongue that resembles that of the chow-chow's. They also have thick, curled tail that is carried over their backs on either side thus exposing their anus. Other attributes of this breed are small, triangular ears and muzzle shaped like that of a hippopotamus.

These dogs are snobbish, have scowling expression and are often aloof with strangers but once a shar pei consider you as his family, you will surely gain his devotion.

About the Author
Richard Cussons is fascinated with this wrinkled dog called Shar Pei. She is playful and fairly easy to care for, but she needs plenty of human attention. She is generally good around other pets and loves children. As a reminder, never cleave a child unsupervised around a puppy or dog.

Approximate Adult Size

The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the French Bulldog is about 12 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder). There are two weight classes, 19 to 22 pounds and 22 to 28 pounds.

Special Health Considerations

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the French Bulldog is no exception. Be on the lookout for breathing problems, skin problems, prone to eye injuries and heat stroke. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

Grooming

The French Bulldog has a short, smooth, fine and brilliant coat. She is an average shedder and should be brushed regularly. Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat, avoid mats and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

Life Span

The French Bulldog can live between 10 and 14 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

History

The French Bulldog was first developed either in France or Spain from small bulldogs. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1898.

Some Registries

French Bulldog Club of America
UKC United Kennel Club
NKC National Kennel Club
CKC Continental Kennel Club
APRI Americas Pet Registry Inc.
AKC American Kennel Club
FCI Federation Cynologique Internationale
NZKC New Zealand Kennel Club
KCGB Kennel Club of Great Britain
ANKC Australian National Kennel Club
ACR American Canine Registry

Litter Size

2 to 5 French Bulldog puppies

Category

Non-Sporting, Mastiff

Terms To Describe

Affectionate, courageous, playful, intelligent, muscular, active, curious, alert, comfortable, adapted

SPECIAL GOOD POINTS

Good watch dog.
Well behaved.
Good companion dog.
Good tempered.
Is not a barker.
They like to hunt mice.

SPECIAL BAD POINTS

Tend to snore.
Low obedience.
Poor guard dog.
Can be gassy.
May not be able to swim.
May have to see a vet more than some other breeds.
May have trouble bearing young.
Sensitive to heat.
Can be a one person dog.
Can be willful
Some may drool and slobber.

Other Names Known By

Bouledogue Francais, Frenchie

Every dog is an individual so not everything in this information may be correct for your dog. In order to do that, you need to know the characteristics and temperament of the breed you're thinking about adopting or purchasing before you do so. The English Bulldog is just one breed among many from which to choose.

History/Background: The English Bulldog descended from the ancient Asiatic mastiff and was brought to Europe by nomads. It was bred for bull baiting in the early 13th century. The name "bulldog" (medieval in origin) refers to the robust look of a little bull and also the power with which this dog attacked bulls in arena combat before that practice was outlawed in the 19th century. The last of the working bulldogs in England were crossed with Pug dogs to create the English Bulldog. This breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1935.

Physical Characteristics: The English Bulldog has a short but wide, compact and muscular body with stocky legs and a short tail. The head is broad, with dense skin folds on the skull and forehead, and the cheeks extend to the sides of the eyes. The muzzle is short and sometimes dark, with a broad black nose and large nostrils. The upper lip is pendant and the lower jaw undershot. The eyes are very round, far apart and dark. The small, thin ears are folded back in the form of a rose. The coat is short and smooth, and the color can be red, fawn, brindle, pale yellow, washed-out red, white or any combination of these colors. The English Bulldog's height is about 12 to 16 inches, and weight is 49 to 55 pounds.

Personality/Temperament: The English Bulldog, in contrast to its aggressive and fighting ancestors, is gentle and very affectionate. It typically does not beg for attention but seeks for it, and lots of human attention is required for its happiness. It is content to lie peacefully at its owner's feet or just to be in the same room with its owner. It is sensitive to its owner's moods. This breed makes a good companion and is good with children and the elderly and also with family pets.

Although known for its courage and excellent guarding abilities, an English Bulldog does not necessarily make a good watch dog. It usually only barks when there is really a reason or sometimes if furniture has been moved or there is something new in the house. This breed of dog can be bullheaded and determined and does not give up easily. It can be dominating and needs an owner who displays strong leadership.

A young English Bulldog will be full of energy but will slow down as it gets older. Although it appears lazy, this is not really the case. It doesn't jump at every command but evaluates the command against its own priority setting to decide whether to obey the command and with what urgency. This breed snores very loudly and tends to slobber and drool. It rarely whines or complains.

Possible Health Conditions: Some of the health conditions that plague this breed of dog include breathing problems, poor eyesight, susceptibility to heat stroke in warm weather or hot rooms or cars, sensitivity to cold, skin infections and hip and knee problems. This breed also has an active digestive system. Puppies are often delivered by cesarean section because of the broad head. The life expectancy for this breed averages 8 years.

Exercise/Grooming: English Bulldogs need daily short walks but are not tolerant of excessive exercise. Some adult bulldogs would rather not exercise while others are full of energy. Grooming is fairly easy and consists of combing or brushing with a firm bristle brush and bathing only when necessary. The face should be wiped with a damp cloth every day to clean inside the wrinkles. This breed is an average shedder.

Living Conditions: This breed of dog is good for apartment life, is inactive indoors and does okay without a yard. It chills easily in cold weather and has trouble cooling off in very hot weather. It should be kept indoors.

Summary: The English Bulldog needs lots of human attention and strong human leadership, is very good with children and the elderly, makes a good companion and is relatively easy to groom but doesn't typically have a lot of energy and has a shorter life expectancy than most breeds. If you are looking for these characteristics and traits in a dog and are able to fulfill its needs, then perhaps an English Bulldog is the right breed for you.

About the Author
Anita Funkhouser is the owner of http://www.gogreendogbeds.com, offering high-quality, eco-friendly dog beds, toys and sweaters made from recycled materials, and http://pickofthelitterblog.wordpress.com/, a blog about various breeds of dogs.

About the Author
Puppy training tips - Learn more about bulldog puppies.

About the Author
Puppy training tips - Learn more about bulldog puppies. Who wouldn't want a properly-mannered dog that is a joy to those around him?

In order to reach what you have been aiming for, it is very important that you know the strategies and some tips appropriate when training english bulldogs. Originally used for bullbaiting, this breed can be bullheaded, determined and persistent. With that, your determination as well as patience can contribute to the success of your english bulldog training.

Another issue that must be tackled when training the english bulldog is this breed's activity level. Although some can be full of energy, their laziness makes training quite a challenge. They are considered indoor dogs - very inactive indoor dogs and human attention is the best thing in the world for them. Thus it is important to keep training sessions as enjoyable as possible to keep your pet's attention in the training. In addition to that, training sessions should not last more than 15 minutes as they can get too bored and simply walk away.

A lot of people believe that this breed is tough and intimidating and seems to face the world at a moment's notice. Yes, english bulldogs are known for their courage and excellent guarding abilities but what some people are not aware of is that behind the tough and intimidating look is a gentle personality. They are in fact the gentlest among dogs. Training based on punishment will not always work for this breed. Giving punishment for not obeying or learning the command immediately or for making accident inside the house will not correct the problem. It will just create behavior related problems and will make your dog scared of you. They can be traced back to the sixteenth century and to two types of mastiff dogs known as Bullenbeiszer and Barenbeiszer. These breeds were then crossed with a Native Bavarian dog and then mated with an English bulldog.

This is believed to be the beginning of the Boxer as we know today. They were originally used to hunt wild boar and deer and then they were used in dog fighting sports. Thankfully these sports were outlawed around 1850 and the boxer found a new job guarding cattle.

The Boxer is a member of the working group. They have an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. Boxers are a medium sized dog weighing between 55 to 70 pounds. An adult male stands between 22 and 25 inches (57 and 63cm) tall at the withers while the female is slightly smaller standing between 21 to 231/2 inches (53 and 60cm) tall. The name boxer comes from this dog's tendency to stand up on its hind legs and use its front paws like a boxer.

Their coat is short, smooth and sleek and comes in many shades of fawn, brindle and flashes of white. Fawn colours come in various shades from pale to dark deer-red. Boxers can also be white. In the past, breeders often euthanized white puppies at birth; today, most breeders place white puppies in pet homes with spay/neuter agreements. Like fair-skinned humans, white Boxers have a higher risk of sunburn and associated skin cancers than coloured Boxers.

Boxers make a good family pet as they tend to be very good with children. Like all dogs they need to be properly socialized. They are a high energy dog so they do require plenty of exercise. They respond well to positive reinforcement training such as clicker training. They tend to be more comfortable with companionship whether it be human or canine. They also tend to be over friendly.

They are natural entertainers and are seen as class clowns because of their antics. They make an excellent guard dog and have been used widely in military and police work.

Boxers generally are a very clean dog and shed moderately so they require very little grooming. They do best in moderate temperature. They chill in cold weather and have trouble cooling off in very hot weather. Boxers are prone to a number of health problems. Among their health issues are hip dysplasia, bloat, heart problems specifically aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy, digestive problems, hypothyroidism and cancerous and benign tumours.

This breed is not for everyone but what breed really is. With proper training and proper socialization the boxer can make a wonderful family pet.

About the Author
Check this out

This amazing breed is thought to have descended from the Greek and Roman Molossus and brought to Europe by the Alans. This dog has had many uses over its long history, such as war dog, guardian of flocks, and also used as sport in dog fights with bulls, bears, and dogs. By the end of the middle ages this breed was used as personal protectors and cattle drivers. During the French Revolution many of these large dogs were killed defending their masters. These dogs were luckily saved by a man named Raymond Triquet along with his group called the French Dogue de Bordeaux Club. Today the French Mastiff is well established in France and gaining popularity in other countries.

This Mastiff is not easy to breed. Often Cesarean sections are needed because the puppies' heads are so large. Litters are usually small.

The French Mastiff is a stocky dog with a huge, broad, heavy, wrinkled head. The head of this Mastiff is a very important feature, especially when it comes to showing this breed. The head features deep wrinkles and a powerful jaw. Its coat is short and sleek and usually comes in shades of red. All French Mastiffs have a mask around the eyes and muzzle. This mask can be either red or black. The nose is the same color as the mask.

Grooming is quite easy since they have short coats. Lightly brushing once a week to keep from shedding is sufficient. Mastiffs should be bathed about every 10-15 days. It might be tricky, but be sure that they are clean between the wrinkles on the head! It is extremely important to keep their toenails trimmed to avoid problems that could develop in their feet and legs. Regular cleaning of the ears with help prevent yeast build-up and also their eyes must be wiped several times a day with a damp cloth.

Some of the common health problems found in the French Mastiff include heart disease, bloat, epilepsy, obesity, degenerate joint disease, and kidney disease. Some problems can be prevented through a careful diet and regular vet visits.

Obedience training is a must for Mastiffs. It is best to train them well while they are young. When they are older they are harder to control mainly due to their size and weight and they can become quite stubborn. Be consistent with training. Faster and greater learning takes place when the trainer is consistent. Once the French Mastiff learns a lesson he never forgets. Socialization is important while they are young also. They should be introduced to many people in different places as well as to other dogs.

Like other Mastiff breeds, the French Mastiff has a calm temperament. They are patient and devoted to their owners, feeling a strong sense of protectiveness toward them. Being on guard is inborn in them so strangers might want to beware. Though they are large in stature and look somewhat fierce, they are gentle with children and those they love.

About the Author
Sam Daniels is a dog trainer and enthusiast and, for a limited time, is offering his extensive Mastiff Care Secrets course free of charge. You should know that there are hundreds of online tools that you can use to grow your customer base. As the pet market grows, along with the demand for pedigreed dogs and the use of the Internet as a purchasing tool, you want your business to be at the forefront. Online tools not only create a global web presence, they also allow you to network with other breeders and get a chance to really choose your prospective pet buyers.

This article can help dog breeders like you learn more about the various ways to reach a much greater market via the Internet, so keep reading for some great tips.

Online Pet and Dog Classifieds

A direct method is to advertise your business using an online pet classifieds website. Utilize websites such as Find a Pet Online which targets pet lovers all throughout North America and really, across the globe. You can post your information, business details, pedigrees, upcoming litters and services through the pet forums and classified pages. Because the site is so specialized, the users you'll get to interact with are the very same dog-loving customers you want for your niche market.

Business Review Sites
Every business owner knows that word-of-mouth advertising is the best kind of advertising. This is where online review communities like Yelp can really help your dog breeding business. These are online city guides cum websites that could help shape the opinion of other people about you. For example, if a satisfied client of yours leaves a favorable review about you and your puppies, your business has just been positively reviewed on a global website with an audience of millions of potential customers.

Online Pet and Dog Communities
Message boards or online forums are great outlets for you to make your business known. A lot of pet owners use these web communities to look for suggestions, feedback and, of course, helpful tips on where and how to find a dog. Basically, these pet owners and future pet owners visit message boards actively seeking referrals. Just imagine how this could work in your favor if you're already a member of that forum and you also have good feedback to boot! So, never underestimate the power of forum marketing - this can lead to good business leads as well as a positive reputation.

Social Networking
Last but definitely not the least, if you think that social networking websites such as MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn are timewasters, think again! They are a great way to advertise your pets and services online.

Because a ready network is already in place, you can be assured that steady traffic can get to view your profile page. Another way of thinking of it is imagining that your friend's sister's boss is looking for a purebred Bulldog and you posted on your social networking profile that you breed Bulldogs. Your friend's sister sees it, tells her boss about you and all of a sudden, you have a new customer.

With these four main ways to grow your dog breeding business online, your market opportunities are endless. With just a little bit of patience and steady diligence on your part including time spent joining forums, filling up profiles and posting ads, your dog breeding business will be well on its way to success.

About the Author
CS Swarens is the CEO of Find a Pet Online. 800 998-7065

For additional information on dogs, cats, birds, horses, and exotic pets visit the internet's resource for dogs for sale.

Research over 240 dog breeds.
