Budd Bay teams hosted matches on Saturday and Sunday. The weather even backed off to celebrate the opening weekend. It was great to see so many spectators out to help cheer on the Buffaloes, Barbarians and Steeleheads!

On Saturday the Barbarians U19 lost to Rainier Plateau RFC 22-12. But, it wasn't for lack of trying. They played smart and hard. Griffin Boudia-2 Tries. Daniel Martin-1 Conversion. Nice work fellas!

Sunday the Barbarians U16 lost to Liberty RFC 12-7 at Liberty's home pitch. It was a very close match and the Barbarians did a great job of holding Liberty back. Sounds like a great match Guys! Jake Spliller-1 try. Kylar Anderson-1 conversion. Men of the Match-Kylar Anderson and Ryan Glen-Denning.

Buffaloes played a new team this weekend, the Battleground Bulls. But, we all know a bull has nothing on a buffalo! Men's final score 56-5. Mike Radasa-2 tries, 3 conversions. Taylor Briscoe-2 tries. Chris Cousins-1 try. Josh Vega-1 try. Jesse Fox- 1 try. Mario-1 try. Shorty-1 try Hurricane-1 try. Man of the match...Pete Sanders.

Steeleheads played a great match on Sunday. We apologize to our avid readers for the gap in articles, but this should more than make up for it.

Bandits Vs. Boise, September 25th, Rainier Vista Park

This match was determined a forfeit prior to the first whistle. The Boise team traveled light but after a few Bandits were given to even out the sides the game got started. The Bandits superior fitness showed from the very start and continued throughout the game.Malory Salazar lead off the onslaught with a 5m ball in hand try off a ruck. Many other tries were scored throughout the game with the final tally being Bandits 73 and Boise 0. Among the try scorers were Malory Salazar, Sam Elmore 3), Rachel Rosa (4), Erika DeLeon, Echo Duplessis,Marion Foor, Heather Broxton, and Nicole Haun. Rachel Rosa also made (4) conversion kicks.Excellent fitness and a relentless defense prevented the Boise team from getting anything going
all day.

Bandits Vs. Eugene, October 9th, Rainier Vista Park

This was the Bandits last League Match of the season. And in pure Budd Bay fashion, the Bandits took over and set the tempo for the entire game from the start, scoring many tries off great ball in hand rugby. They set good rucks and recycled ball well, and used their fitness and tackling ability to shellshock the Eugene team. The final score was Bandits 47 and Eugene 0, with the following Bandits scoring tries on the day; Noelia Ragland (2), Malory Salazar (4), Sam Elmore, Echo Duplessis (2), and Rachel Rosa made (1) conversion on the day.

Pacific Coast Championships, October 22nd, Rainier Vista Park

Game 1, Bandits Vs. Eugene

The Bandits started the Pac Coast Championships much like the rest of the games this season.Eugene came out motivated to knock-off the Bandits and make it to the finals. Though, again, the Bandits fitness and relentless defensive attack left few options for the visiting Eugene team.Alex Avery started off the scoring for the Bandits on a great team try, with the ball running through several hands before making it to hers. The Bandits did not let up from there either;another six tries were scored before the final whistle blew. The Eugene women fought hard to get a last ditch 5 points on the board at the end of the second half, leaving the final tally Bandits
37 and Eugene 5.

Among the Bandit try scorers were the following; Alex Avery, Meredith Jordan, Melissa Fritcher,Sam Elmore, and Rachel Rosa. Rachel Rosa also made (1) conversion kick.

Championship Game, Bandits Vs. Sacramento

The Bandits worked hard this year and brought all that hard work to the final match on the day. The Bandits fitness quickly showed to be an issue for the much bigger Sacramento team. The contact on both sides of the ball proved to be a great show with hard tackles and great hits being made all over the pitch. Meredith Jordan started off the scoring for the Bandits sneaking in after a scrum 5m out. Rachel Rosa missed the conversion and left the score 5 to 0.A bit later in the first half Michelle Jordan scored off a scrum 5m out, busting through several Sacramento tacklers. Rachel Rosa made the conversion and brought the score to 12-0 Bandits
to close out the half.

The second half started much like the first, with the much fitter Bandit side running right at the Sacramento team with no signs of letting up or that they were ahead on the scoreboard. The Sacramento side looked to have some life when a hard run to the outside was dotted down in the corner of the try zone, followed by a successful conversion leaving the score Bandits 12 and Sacramento 7. Though, not too much later the relentless Bandits came back with Malory Salazar scoring a hard fought try, running through many of the Sacramento players to get to the try zone. Rachel Rosa followed suit with a converted kick to make the score Bandits 19
Sacramento 7. It was a gritty and tough fought final minutes from both teams, with Rachel Rosa scoring one final try for the Bandits in the final minutes of the match, making the final tally Bandits 24 and Sacramento 7.

The Bandits had a perfect League Season, won the Pacific Northwest DII Championship, and now the Pacific Coast Championship; making the Bandits one of the top 8) Women’s DII teams in the Nation. They will compete in Mesa, AZ on the 13th and 14th of November for the National Championships. Go Bandits!! Go Budd Bay!!!

Welcome Back Budd Bay

The first match of the fall rugby season could not have been more impressive! And the Bandits get all the credit. The women made a trip down to Portland, OR to play the Lady Pigs at their home pitch. "Home field advantage" was more of a folklore today when the Bandits stormed Portland 22-0. The great weather only further fed the Budd Bay Women's ambition to start this season well. Rachel Rosa had a great match with a penalty try for 3 pts, a conversion for 2 pts and a try from 5 meters for 5 pts. Sam Elmore made an impressive try after running 60 meters to get the ball across. Erika DeLeon scored a 5pt try from 5 meters. Thanks Bandits for an inspiring start to this season.
In addition some of our own rugby community are reeking more havoc in Portland at the Warrior Dash. The Warrior Dash is a fast paced, muddy, barbed-wired, angry obstacle course that most people would not go within ten miles of. But, nothing is too much for Budd Bay and friends. We wish those contenders lots of luck and look forward to hearing about the Dash!
Next weekend the Buffaloes play Kitsap @Rainier Vista and the Bandits follow in a match against Bend, OR. We will see you there.

Budd Bay RFC Welcomes 2011

On Sunday, Budd Bay RFC stepped into its 13th year - the 2011 season. With every team in Budd Bay represented at the 2010 Annual General Meeting, it was clear everyone is as eager to see good things happen over the next 13 years as I am. I was encouraged by all the players, parents and supporters that gave up a beautiful Sunday afternoon to talk about the present and future Budd Bay RFC and then to step up and fill some critical roles. And I thank everyone for the cake - it was delicious!

Some of you will notice some new faces and familiar ones in new roles... Yesterday, a handful of new members were elected to openings on the Board to work alongside some vets and lead Budd Bay through the next couple of years and beyond. I wish them all continuing success and I hope they receive the care, support and generosity you have all shown me over the years.

Please welcome the new (and returning) volunteers when you have a chance - they have all committed their time generously to keep building Budd Bay and helping our teams succeed. We'll be updating their contact information on our website shortly, so check back soon. And now, drum roll please... the 2011 Board of Directors and Coaches:

President - Kyle McKown
Vice President - Chris Cousins
Secretary - Lena McKown
Treasurer - Erin Louis
Senior Team Representative - Debbie Lainfiesta
Fields Representative - Rena Carlson
Member-at-Large - Ryan Cole
Member-at-Large - Dan Smith

Men's Head Coach - Jerry Quirke
Women's Head Coach - Chris Cousins
Boy's Head Coach - Dan Dillashaw
Girl's Head Coach - Quigg Davis

Some more thanks go to Mary Shero for committing to help coordinate a couple of events over the next year and Mya Starling for keeping an eye on our webspace. A special thanks to Founding Rugger Trevor Anderson for committing to the summer youth rugby program, a fun touch rugby session for the young ruggers of tomorrow.

While a lot of important roles have been filled, there is plenty more opportunities to lend a hand where you can. We are still looking for volunteers for our U19 programs and someone to help with clubwide fundraising, recruitment and marketing... If you can help or know someone that can, please let us know.

As a final note, thank you. I have always been impressed with the dedication and passion so many around Budd Bay exhibit - whether its on the pitch or off - and I thank you for that each and every day. Without you, everyone of you - our players, volunteers, families and friends - Budd Bay would not be where it is today.

Stay tuned for an exciting senior men's and women's season this fall! With the men looking to defend their 2010 DIII title and the women rucking through the new DII side, I am sure the season will be intense.

Hope to see ya at the pitch!

Cheers,
Dan

Budd Bay AGM Tomorrow

Hello BBRFC,

This is a reminder for those who know and an invite for those who haven't heard that the club's Annual General Meeting is taking place tomorrow. The program prepares these players for the next level of competitive play. Players are invited and/or nominated by their coaches to attend a try out session that may lead to selection on the representative team.

The Loggers program sets a high standard of commitment, excellence and tradition and some of own Budd Bay Youth have been selected and nominated to be a part of the Loggers. They will attend practices and play matches along with chosen youth from other clubs in Washington. For more information on the program see: www.rugbywa.org. In the meantime, lets give a big "Congratulations" to the following Barbarians and Steelheads who have been selected to be a part of the Loggers All-Stars!

Steelheads-
Christa Cushon
Kelsi Stockert
Malory Salazar

U17 Barbarians-
Kyler Anderson
Zach Carrithers
Jacob Durr
Justin Henry
Steven Malepeai
Tonuao Tosi
Brett Woods

U19 Barbarians-
David Allen
Cole Boyson
Daniel Martin

Buffalo Nationals

This past weekend the Budd Bay Buffaloes and their loyal fans went to Austin, Texas to represent Northwest Rugby! The men's team played two matches in the sweltering Texas weather, which is not ideal climate for a Northwestern Buffalo. They played super hard - they should hold their heads high and all of Budd Bay is very proud of the efforts of our Buffaloes. Here is an overview of both matches.

Saturday v OMBAC
The match kicked off at 1:20 PM. Eight minutes in, the game is underway the boys are on fire (both literally and in spirit). The referee is blowing the whistle and there are a few early penalties. The match is a quarter of the way through and the score remains 0-0. Budd Bay gets a yellow card for a high tackle, and immediately following, OMBAC scores 7. Budd Bay turns this around when Joel Swenson intercepts a pass and returns 90m for a try! Ryan Cole converts making the score 7-7. However, a determined OMBAC turns around and converts a try, score 7-14. The second half was less eventful for Budd Bay. Due to a lot of whistle blowing and some penalties OMBAC takes the match 25-7.

Sunday v. Dallas Area Rugby Club (DARC)
The match against Dallas kicked off at 9:15AM. Just three minutes in Budd Bay is testing DARC in their Red Zone. It works! Chris Cousins bust through the line to make the score 5-0! DARC brings it right back and scores a converted try. Just keeping it even steven, Budd Bay's Pat LaValla makes a quick run across the try line and Mike Radasa lends a hand by converting! Score 12-7. Dallas then scores, no convert, making it 12-12 at the half. DARC scores again but Budd Bay is not deterred.Mike Radasa makes a 15m run and gets Bay 5, and Ryan Cole converts making it 19-17. And just to make the point Bay scores again when Radasa passes to Swensen and Cole converts with another great kick! DARC gets scared and desperately comes back with two tries giving themselves a one point lead. Budd Bay gets a penalty kick in the last minutes of the game. But, the kick is off by just inches and DARC wins 27-26.

Congratulations again to the Budd Bay Buffaloes! We are so looking forward to your next season. But, do not worry rugby is not finished. Our teams will start 7's training next week. Don't forget about the 18th Annual Tatunka 7's tournament happening June 12th. Mark your calendar! And if anyone is feeling generous there are opportunities to volunteer at the tournament. If you are interested please contact Lena: secretary@buddbayrugby.com. Mary Shero, a Bandit, has stepped up to make sure the tournament happens. She needs a little help!

Barbarian Playoff Update #2

While are men are hard at training to prepare for the national playoffs, our boys had another fantastic win up in Buckley this past weekend to continue their march toward a State Championship. And what an exciting win it was... down 19-5 at the half, our Barbarians knocked it up a notch and played strong rugby to overcome Rainier 38-26 at the final whistle - WAY TO GO BOYS!

Our U16 Barbarians had an equally impressive day, taking on the boys from Seattle and overpowering them 7 tries to 2. Rugby is a tough sport - you train hard all season long, so you can play hard with your teammates and win games. You commit to your team and are there every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, again, working hard so you can help your team make big plays and win big matches.

Then, after a long, hard season, your team has won enough to qualify for the Regional Playoff's - and you and your team play hard once again. Blood and sweat stains your jersey, your body aches from days of continuous battle on the pitch. When the final whistle blows, you emerge victorious with your team - cheered on by all the fans yelling your name and the "Budd Bay" chants begin anew. Your team has reached it's goal - to be the best, together. Almost. There's another match right around the corner...

When a full side has to travel to far away and exotic locales, such as San Jose, CA or Austin, TX - the costs really start to make being so successful on the pitch challenging. But never impossible.

We need your help. Our players need your help. Every little bit will go along way in helping our players achieve their goal of being the best rugby team in the country, and representing our club and community on the National scene. Our men have earned high honors as the #1 Pacific Northwest team and have a very realistic shot at the #1 slot in the USA! Our Steelheads have returned from California victorious and are looking forward to the opportunity at a shot at the National title.

I am hopeful that our wide network of rugby players, supporters, family and friends can help our teams realize their full potential. Player costs can be as high as $500 each to travel. I know times are tough for everyone right now, but anything will help. $20, $50, $100 or even $500 - whatever you are able to donate, will help our teams and less fortunate players be a part of what they have worked so hard for all season. If every member of Budd Bay and our extended family donated just $20, that would make a world of difference.

So, I ask you, can you help? The scoring started early with a try and conversion, then a pair of well placed penalty kicks by Ryan Cole. Portland fought back, bringing the score to 13-6 at half time. With two players serving time in the sin bin at half, Portland put five more points on the board to cut the Buffalo lead to 2 at just three minutes into the second half. Never giving up, the Buffaloes came back hard adding three converted tries to seal the semi-final win over Portland, 34-14. Ryan had two more conversions in the second half, complementing tries by Alex Queirolo and Taylor Briscoe. Dan Conklin added the final points, converting a try from Mike Radasa in a beautiful kick from the sideline.

On Sunday, the Buffaloes kept their heads high and played tough rugby against Corvallis. After a quick try in the first five minutes by Jake Dixon, strong defense by Corvallis kept the Buffaloes at bay for the next twenty minutes, when an overthrown ball was picked off by Dixon once again, dotting down 20 meters for the try. The momentum shifted in Budd Bay's favor, with 28 points scored in the next following ten minutes to close the half, 41-0. Tries in the first half included a truly team-made try initiated by Captain Paul Borneman from the 50m with four touches to finally being brought over the line by Paul. Taylor Briscoe, Mike Radasa and Jake Dixon contributed to the first half score, with conversions by Ryan Cole and a penalty. The second half was contested by Corvallis, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit and hard rugby played by the Buffaloes. Fullback Jesse Fox and Winger Matt Beagle contributed the tries, with Mike Radasa converting, to end the match 55-12.

And, once again, the Buffaloes take home the trophy as 2010 DIII PNW Champions. Congratulations Buffaloes - a long, hard & undefeated season ending with some well deserved hardware.

While there was a lot of excitement at home this weekend, the intrepid Steelheads were in California representing the PNW at the Pacific Coast Invitational Tournament. After beating two tough opponents on Saturday, the Steelheads competed in the final for the tournament title and WON! 25-5 was the final score of the tournament final and the girls came home with the trophy and well deserved honor. Congratulations girls!

The last league match of the season for the Barbarians was this weekend, ending in a 5-5 draw against the Griffins from Yakima. They look forward to the double header this weekend at Rainier Vista Park and the start of the playoffs for the boys. If you're looking for some good rugby action this weekend, be sure to come out and support the Barbarians. The first match kicks off at 1pm.

Buffaloes End League Season 13-0-1!!!!!

With the final blow of the whistle last Saturday, the Buffaloes earned a final victory against the Gentlemen from Eugene, 30 - 15. This victory was lucky number 13 for the Buffaloes, to end their stunning season undefeated - a first in Buffalo history. The Buffaloes solidly secured their 1st place seed heading into this weekend's DIII PNW Championships in Bremerton.

The winner of the DIII PNW Championships will take the #3 seed for the National Championships next month in Austin, TX. The Buffaloes need all your support this weekend - if you can make the trip to the tournament hosted this year by Kitsap RFC.

The Buffaloes first match kicks off on Saturday at 2pm, against Portland - the Buffaloes lone tie on the season. If you can make the event, get ready for a great weekend of rugby. The match was much closer that the score indicated. The coaches were very proud of the effort and attitude that our players displayed. It was very refreshing to hear the players comment how much they enjoyed the game and how much fun they had playing. Our 16’s are a very young squad, but the future looks very bright for this group of fine young men.

While our men and boys are staying close to home, our Steelheads are on their way to California to represent Budd Bay in top fashion at the Pacific Coast Invitational Tournament. They worked hard all season and have earned another invite to the prestigious tournament. Congratulations Steelheads!

Good luck to all our teams this weekend!

BBRFC Presidential Nomination Committee

Hello all, <?xml:namespace prefix = o />

As most of you know, Dan Smith will be stepping down as President of BBRFC in August, after many years of leading this club. Dan’s service, commitment, guidance, drive and support have been phenomenal, and will be greatly missed. One of the things that Dan has been working on is assuring that the transition to new club leadership goes as smoothly as possible. Along those lines, Dan has commissioned the board to create a Nomination Committee, tasked with nominating a President, as well as other board positions that need to be filled. I have agreed to coordinate this effort.

Whether you have been involved in the club leadership or not, you have no doubt been impacted by Dan’s involvement. Our next President will have that same impact on Budd Bay Rugby. The leadership of the club determines the coaches, fields, practice times, dues, player policies, budgets, and more, and the President sets the tone.

The Nomination Committee will be responsible for seeking out potential candidates, and then vetting those candidates. The Committee’s recommendations will be presented to the club members at the AGM at the end of July. The Committee will most likely not need to meet regularly, as much of the ground work can be done through email. While the time commitment will be small, the impact a Committee member will have on the club will be enormous.

If you are interested in the direction our club will take in the next few years, would like to help shape the qualities needed in our club leadership, or are simply want to give back something to the sport you love so much, the Nomination Committee is the place for you! Some of the roles of Committee members will include:

Determining which board positions, in addition to President, need to be filled.

Defining the job descriptions for those positions.

Reaching out to players, parents, supporters, and other members of the Budd Bay Rugby community for nominations to fill those positions.

Reaching out to community volunteer groups and other external resources to find qualified candidates.

Compiling a list of interested and willing candidates.

Creating questions to ask those candidates.

Interviewing the candidates.

Selecting individuals to nominate, and presenting those nominations to the club members at July’s AGM.

I am asking that anyone interested in being on this committee email me in the next two weeks. Note that I will be out of town, so will not respond immediately, but I will contact all interested individuals when I return. Please send me an email at fields@buddbayrugby.com by 4/30/2010.

A few notes:

Being on the Nomination Committee does NOT disqualify you from running for a position on the board. In the event that a conflict of interest arises, you will be asked to recuse yourself from relevant discussions.

If you know of someone who might be interested, but does not receive club emails, please pass on this opportunity!

I do not anticipate this being an overwhelmingly time consuming job.

I do anticipate this being an incredibly important point in the club’s life – and your participation will have a profound impact on the future of Budd Bay Rugby.

In the event that an enormous number of individuals indicate their interest, we may limit the number of committee members to help facilitate an efficient process (we only have 3 months!). All interested members will be notified of the next steps at that time.

Thank you for your interest in the future of the club!

Bunnies and Eggs? No, just Buffaloes, Bandits and Barbarians

First thing's first, our sincere apologies for the very late arrival of Spring schedule post cards. The mailing service made a mistake and so people are just now receiving the bi-annual schedules. Thank you for your patience!

Easter Weekend was a tremendous rugby weekend for Budd Bay. While most of us were coloring and hunting for eggs, the rest were playing cold hard rugby! The Buffaloes made it to 12 and 0 this weekend when they beat Kitsap 67-0! Nice work. The men played at Rainier Vista. Coach Jerry Quirke said everyone has been playing their BEST and morale is high. A lot of rookies got playing time this weekend. Each team picked the others' "Man of Match" title winner and Budd Bay's was Dan Santana. Stats- Mike Rodasa had 3 tries, made 7 of 10 conversions and kicked 1 penalty kick, Kirk Rose had 2 tries, Taylor Briscoe had 4 tries, Shorty (Johnathan Thomas) had 1 try. The men have two more home matches against Portland and Eugene. The playoffs are coming up quick for them so lets all go out and show some Buffalo support.

On Saturday the U16'S took on the Eastside Lions of Bellevue. The two week break did not appear to disrupt the good rugby we had seen earlier against Seattle. In another impressive performance the Barbarians ended up winning 65-0! The leading try scorer was Jacob Durr with 3, Jake Spiller continues to get better with each outing and was rewarded with 2 tries. Steven Malepeai, Brett Woods, Eddie Harriage and Mau Matautia all scored 1 try each. Jacob Durr kicked 3 conversions and Kylar Anderson kicked 1. Welcome back Barbarians!

Our Budd Bay Bandits travelled the snowy pass of Snoqualmie this weekend for Fool's Fest 2010, a 15's tournament held the first weekend of April every year. The tournament is hosted by the Spokane Men's team. Teams traveled far and wide to be "fools" and play rugby in the snow. The Bandits rang in victories all day. The first match of the day was a difficult one to get into. The Bandits were cold and sleepy, but managed to blaze past Eastern Washington University with a 15-5 win. Amped up from the first win, the Bandits hit the field again and beat the Missoula Betterside 29-5. The Betterside had swamped the Bandits last year at Maggotfest. By the third match the weather took a turn for the worst with steady snow. Many of the Budd Bay women were subbing for the Seattle Mudhens to keep warm. The Bandits played their last match against the University of WA and won again 35-5! Despite a six hour drive and blustery conditions the Bandits showed Fool's Fest that Budd Bay ain't no Fools!
As if this wasn't impressive enough, the Budd Bay Bandits were voted "MOST HONORED SIDE" at Fool's Fest 2008 and were not aware of it till this weekend. The Bandits were presented with a trophy and were informed that the level of play that they bring to the pitch as well as the level of class they exhibit was a sure fire way to secure the most honored side.
Fool's Fest tops off the Bandits' spring season. This season, the Bandits defeated 6 of the 9 teams that they played. The Bandits will travel to Maggotfest socially, but do not have any additional games this season. The match in Boise was canceled. Great Job this season Bandits. We can't wait to see what the Fall brings.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://buddbayrfc.blogspot.com/2010/04/bunnies-and-eggs-no-just-buffaloes.html' title='Bunnies and Eggs? The Buffaloes drowned the Vancouver Sharks and made their league standing 11-0! Final score was 34-0! The Buffaloes were complete gentlemen and played with prestige.
Stats: Taylor Briscoe- 3 tries, Chris Cousins-1 try, Jake Dixon -1 try, Kirk Rose-1 try, Mike Rodassa- 2 conversions. Kirk Rose was the Man of the Match.
The Budd Bay Bandits played their final home match of the season. A big thank you to all of the supporters on the sidelines. The Bandits blazed past Spokane, leaving them in the dust with a final score of 61-15. Three Bandit rookies scored their first tries! Good job Rachel Shute, Jessica Bates and Leah Weiss for one try each. Other tries scored by Angie Watkins, MJ, Erika DeLeon, and Rachel Rosa (who kicked 3 successful conversions). Crusaders

Wednesday the Steelheads played the Kent Crusaders in a much anticipated match. Both youth girls teams came on to the pitch as undefeated this season. The game was between the two top perennial girls teams in Washington. Kent has won every state title (second in league play to Budd Bay in 2008) and has only lost to one Washington team. That team was Budd Bay.
Kent is a much bigger and more experienced team, and the Steelheads' coaches knew this would be a tough match.
The Crusaders used their kicking game and exploited turnovers to score two early tries and shocked Budd Bay somewhat. But, the Steelheads came back. Tracy Backhaus, who played center and flyhalf, showed them that Budd Bay backs can run with any one's. That pressure did not yield points however. Kent scored twice more due to some mistakes by the Steelheads making it a 22-0 lead.
Late in the first half, a brilliant run from Steelheads' full back Kelsi Stockert, set the ladies up in Kent's 22. Then, the forwards worked hard to get that ball over the line. Try scored by Malory Salazar with help from the entire team! The momentum continued and another try was scored by scrumhalf Sam VanHarmelen making the score 22-10.
The last 20 minutes of the match Kent's fitness and size began to show more on the Steelheads and the Crusaders won the match 49-10. "I know for a fact they are not 40 points better than us" said the head coach Tim housh. "Our players worked hard and learned a great deal. I was very very proud of what they did. We have a lot to work on, but I think now they know what it takes to play at the top level."

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://buddbayrfc.blogspot.com/2010/03/steelheads-v-crusaders.html' title='Steelheads v. Final score was 39-13. This puts the Budd Bay men at 10-0 in league matches! Great rugby played by all against ORSU in Oregon. Everyone put forth the best effort and never let up for the entire 80 minutes. Congrats Men!

The Bandits participated in a round robin with the Seattle Mudhens and ORSU this Saturday. The weather was beautiful and the matches were fierce. The Bandits started off the day playing the Mudhens in a blowout match. The Mudhens reported at the social that they had anticipated the Bandits bringing the skills and aggression that shocked them in the fall, thus they had brought thier "A" game. The Bandits lost to the Mudhens 60-0 but that did not stop the Bandits. During the Mudhens v ORSU match, Budd Bay cleared their heads and focused on how to play a good match with ORSU. The Bandits defense killed ORSU in their second match of the day, holding them until the half at a tie score of 5-5. In the second half, ORSU scored once more on the Bandits. Final score ORSU 10-Budd Bay 5. The Bandits then paired up with the Mudhens in a motley match of WA vs OR. This was a great pair up and "Mud Bay" tied the Oregon women 5-5. Overall, the round robin was a great success for all teams involved. There were a handful of injuries sustained, but the Bandits played great Rugby and left the fans and coaches very proud. The Bandits play their last home match of the season on Saturday March 27th against Spokane. Match will be @Rainier Vista. We'll see you there!

Barbarian U-16's beat Seattle 61-5 on Friday night. The game was played under lights at Magnuson Park and the U-16's put on quite a performance. They were clinical in most areas and very unselfish in the way they went about it. Brett Woods scored 4 tries, Ryan Glendenning scored 2, Zach Riley, Nick Lewis, Kylar Anderson, Jacob Durr, and Johnathon Winters all scored tries. Nice work Fellas!
Saturday the U-19'S failed to field 15 players and were handed a lopsided defeat by Rainer.
On Sunday the club hosted a U-14 Jamboree with almost 50 kids under the age of 14 from Budd Bay, Seattle, Rainier, Kent and Yelm. It was an awesome day with great talent on display!

Weekend Reports

The Bandits beat the Portland Lady Pigs in a blowout 12-0. The weather was cold and rainy but the Bandits had fun! The Budd Bay women play in Seattle next weekend in a Round Robin match between the Mud Hens and ORSU. Good Luck Ladies!

The Budd Bay Men's team played against the Seattle Quake at Rainer Vista this weekend. The Buffaloes were behind at the half , but triumphed in the end. Final Score 45-14. Nice work Buffaloes!

Sunday the U-19 girls team played Lynnwood. Steelheads have been keeping up a fabulous winning streak and it continues. The final score was 76-5. Congratulations Steelheads!

The Barbarians played three matches this weekend. Due to injuries, a great deal of inexperienced players were stepping it up. Credit goes to the U-16's who helped take on the Tacoma Tsunami's. The match was definitely one Budd Bay should have won. However, with the the inexperience came lack of discipline and there were a great deal of penalties for offside offenses. The U-16 Barbarians played the Liberty Patriots on Sunday. They were down a few starters due to the events of Saturday. The guys fought hard but eventually the tough game the day prior caught up to them and Liberty pulled ahead with a couple of late tries. The U-16's showed great enthusiasm and discipline, and the final score was definitely not a fair indication of the match at 5-35.
Barbarians U-14's then played a third half against Liberty and lost 5-10. The U-19 teams are very inexperienced right now but the coaching staff is excited to see all the young new players develop as the season progresses. Thanks for the hard work Barbarians! Keep it up!

If you have any additional information regarding the weekend matches please feel free to email secretary@buddbayrugby.com.

Bandits Report for March 6

This Saturday, the Bandits took the feild at Rainier Vista for the first home game of the season. The Bandits wasted no time with lower level club teams, but rather took on ORSU, a USA Premiere League team. Orsu is one of the top 8 women's teams in the country. The Budd Bay women held their own against ORSU, leaving them only enough room to score one try in the first half. With courage and determination, the Bandits entered the second half of the match. ORSU appeared shaken and put in their Eagles level players to score 17 more points. Despite the final score of ORSU 22 to Bandits 0, the Bandits played an intense defensive game. They held strong and played solid rugby. There were others that were not documented.

The Budd Bay Bandits travelled to Oregon this weekend to play OSU. The final score was 24-31, OSU. The Bandits were winning the first three quarters of the match, but OSU kicked it up in the last fifteen. It was sunny and the Budd Bay women played some great rugby.
Stats:Erika Deleon, Sam Elmore, Rachel Rosa and Maggie McLaughlin each scored a try. The Bandits played a friendly match against the newer Eugene women's rugby team in Oregon. The Steelheads attended a Jamboree in Kent, WA and played three matches.

The Bandits went to Eugene to play the first game of Spring and half the team were rookie players! This was not apparent however to anyone watching the Bandits play on Saturday. The ladies stole the show 35 to 0. They had great cohesion and solid scrums. What a terrific start to the season for the Bandits. Their energy is high and this should make their next match against OSU that much more fun to watch.

Stats- Sam Elmore had 3 tries; MJ Jordan had 1 and Ericka DeLeon had 1; Rachel Rosa made all 3 conversions.

Budd Bay's U-19 girls had an amazing day at the pitch as well. The Steelheads had the smallest team at the Kent Jamboree with eighteen (4 new) but they played smart, safe and agressive rugby. The Steelheads played three matches (20 minute halves with 5 minute half time) against Chuckant, Peninsula and Lynnwood. Only one try was scored against the Budd Bay U-19 girls. Total the Steelheads made 14 tries. Quigg Davis, an assistant coach for the team, said "after the first few minutes of each game, it was clear we were in control". Go Steelheads!

This Saturday's Rugby:

Buffaloes @ Microsoft 1:00 PM
Bandits @ Corvalis 1:00 PM
Steelheads @ The RAC 1:00 PM

Hello all, in case you can't see the below image, the USA 7s will be broadcast today, Saturday February 20th, on ABC, at 5 pm ET, 2 pm PT.
