Defensive back Ty Law has agreed to terms on a deal with the Broncos. Kevin Poston, Law’s agent, confirmed the news Friday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. The agreement came after Denver’s media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Law is expected to sign the deal Saturday, pending the passing of his physical. He may even make it out to practice as the Broncos (6-1) prepare to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

The 35-year-old Law, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, will fit right in with veterans Champ Bailey, Andre’ Goodman, Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, all in their 30s.

Law becomes the latest former New England player to reunite with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who spent his previous eight seasons as an assistant with the Patriots.

A first-round pick by New England in 1995, Law helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles. He played for the New York Jets last season.

The Broncos have been relatively quiet on the free-agent front so far during the season, making just their second move.

Last week, Denver signed 16-year veteran punter Mitch Berger in place of Brett Kern. Berger got off to a rusty start, averaging 38.4 yards on eight punts in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.

Coming off their bye week, the Denver Broncos looked to keep their shocking undefeated start going as they headed to Baltimore Sunday. Instead, they were taught a rather harsh lesson as the Ravens held the Denver offense down all day in a 30-7 setback. The loss puts Denver at 6-1 on the season.

The surprise of the season had not only been the Broncos as a whole, but the play of QB Kyle Orton, who never got the teams offense going on Sunday. He was held in check, going just 23 of 37 for 152 yards. He was sacked twice. “We didn’t play our best ball, but they’re a pretty good team and they beat us pretty good today on all sides of the ball,” Orton said. “We didn’t really do a whole lot.”

That’s an understatement. The Broncos had exactly 200 yards of offense, 15 first downs, and were just 3-for-13 on third downs. They were held to just 66 yards rushing on 19 carries, a 3.5 yards per carry average. Plus they also lost the time of possession battle, holding the ball for 26:23 to 33:37 for Baltimore.

The Broncos and Ravens traded blows in the first half, as neither team could get much going. Baltimore was able to covert two field goals from Steven Hauschka, one from 43 yards and the other from 35 yards. After the halftime gun though, the Ravens took charge on the opening kickoff of the second half, as Lardarius Webb went 95 yards for a Ravens score that made it 13-0.

That is two games in a row that the Broncos special teams has allowed a kick to be run back for a score, as Darren Sproles of the Chargers took back a punt in the Denver win in San Diego two weeks back. The Broncos were able to get it to 13-7 as Knshown Moreno went in from a yard out after a nice 10-play, 88-yard drive that was the best of the day for Denver.

After that the team had four possessions, three ending in punts, and the final drive ended the game. The Ravens ran over the Broncos in the second half, scoring two touchdowns and putting up a field goal in their four second half offensive possessions.

After the Broncos closed it to 13-7, the Ravens got another field goal to make it 16-7, then put the game away as Joe Flacco hit Derrick Mason with a 20-yard score with 13:07 left to make it 23-7. Game over. The loss stopped the Broncos from a 7-0 start, the first time they would have been able to have done that since 1998.

The memorable ride of the young coaching career of Josh McDaniels took another big step forward Monday night in San Diego, as his Denver Broncos moved to 6-0 on the season with a tough 34-23 victory over the now 2-3 San Diego Chargers.

McDaniels, who took tons of heat this offseason for moving franchise QB Jay Cutler to the Bears, now is the one laughing last. He rebuilt the team with defense in mind, along with a more ball control offense led by QB Kyle Orton running the show.

He got lots of help Monday night from another unit – the special teams. Kicker returner Eddie Royal returned not one, but two kicks back for scores in the 11-point win. The first was a 93-yard kickoff return that erased a 3-0 Chargers lead. The second came after the Chargers tied the game at 10, and was a 71-yard punt return.

The Chargers took a 20-17 lead at the half, as they had some special plays of their own as Darren Sproles took back a kick 77 yards. The Broncos, who had dominated teams in the second half of their first five games, did it again against Philip Rivers and the Chargers.

San Diego started the second half with a field goal to make it 23-17, but it would be the last points they would get on the physical Broncos defense. The remainder of the night they had just 95 yards on four series, fumbling once, doing down once on downs, punting once, and missing a field goal to seal the Broncos win.

They put massive pressure on Rivers, and seemed to have an answer for LaDainian Tomlinson. The Broncos offense rallied, with Orton playing pitch and catch with tight end Tony Scheffler, who scored on a highlight 19-yard catch to make it 24-23. He then pulled in a huge 52-yard catch with five minutes left to set up the final Broncos TD to ice the game.

Orton was 20-for-29 for 229 yards with two TD’s and a QB rating of 115.4. Scheffler had six grabs for 101 yards with a score, and the Broncos outgained San Diego 328 to 311. It really was the Denver shutdown D in the second half that paved the way for them to walk out of San Diego with their first 6-0 mark since 1998.

This goes out to you, Packers fan living in Arizona or Seahawks fan living in Southern California or any other NFL fan living far removed from the local market of your favorite NFL team. If that applies to you, here’s your chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl and become a folk hero for NFL fans everywhere.

For the second straight season, DIRECTV is conducting the ULTIMATE DISPLACED FAN SEARCH. Last year’s winner, after all the dust settled, was Ron Lawrence, a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan from Chesapeake, Virginia, thanks in large part to his two-car garage, which he’d converted into a full-blown replica of the interior of Texas Stadium, complete with blue star-studded walls, field turf and a ring of honor. Lawrence earned a dream Super Bowl prize package including two Super Bowl tickets and an all-expense paid trip to Tampa, Fla. While there, Lawrence participated in a media tour at the Super Bowl media center side-by-side with his favorite Cowboy player Jason Witten, met Giants Quarterback and DIRECTV spokesman Eli Manning and played for Hall of Fame QB Warren Moon’s team in the nationally televised DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl flag football game.

If you think you deserve to be crowned this year’s DIRECTV ULTIMATE DISPLACED FAN, visit www.theultimatedisplacedfan.com and submit written essays, videos and photos (any or all of these elements) that illustrate why you should earn the title and the Super Bowl week prize package. You can win the same once-in-a-lifetime Super Bowl week experience as Ron Lawrence did last year. In addition, four semi-finalists will receive one-year complimentary subscriptions to the DIRECTV® CHOICETM package, the NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ subscription for the 2010 season, as well as any required DIRECTV® receiving equipment.

Good Luck!

Coaching against his mentor, Bill Belichick, could have been a daunting task for Josh McDaniels and the Broncos. But, just like the last four weeks, the rookie coach made what seemed to be all the right calls, and once again the Broncos pulled out a huge win, topping New England in overtime 20-17.

The win was cemented when the Broncos got the ball first in OT, and against Tom Brady, who was 7-0 in OT entering the game, they never let him get on the field. The offense went 11 plays, 58-yards, and Matt Prater nailed a 41-yard field goal much to the delight of the loud crowd at Invesco Field at Mile High.

The Pats looked like they would sail out of Denver with a big win, as they went up 10-0 after a Stephen Gostkowski 53-yard field goal with 3:51 left in the first quarter. Then they led 17-7 at the half when Brady hit Benjamin Watson with a 7-yard touchdown with :05 left in the half.

The Broncos rallied though, as after Prater kicked a short field goal to make it 17-10 in the third quarter, the defense put up a wall against the Pats offense, not allowing Brady and company to do much of anything. Then down 17-10 with 9:59 left, Broncos QB Kyle Orton was at his patient best during a huge 98-yard game-tying drive.

A 14-yard completion to Jabar Gaffney, a screen to Knowshon Moreno that sprung for 27. A 7-yard completion to Eddie Royal, who finished with 10 catches for 90 yards. The drive wrapped up with an 11-yard TD to Brandon Marshall that tied the game.

The Pats were able to get the ball to the Broncos 49 on the next drive, but Vonnie Holliday sacked Brady, and Elvis Dumervil recovered, ending the drive and eventually pushing the game to overtime. The Broncos OT drive started at their 20, and after Orton hit three passes, and Moreno went for 9 yards, the team was in business. They eventually got to the Pats 22, when Prater calmly hit the game winner.

The Broncos improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1998—the last time they went to the Super Bowl. The Pats fall to 3-2. The Broncos play at San Diego next Monday night.
