On November 4th 2009 I saw Andy Parsons Live at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa.

In A Nutshell
From start to finish a great performance from one the countries best comedians of the moment. Known for his timely pauses, a voice which should be annoying but isn’t, and a cheeky chappy grin – Andy Parsons excels on stage even more so then on popular TV programs such as Mock The Week. His natural style is very endearing and refreshing compared to other comedians around. A show 2 hours long felt more like 10 minutes, none stop laughs. A genuine must see comedian whether on DVD or live (see bottom of article for details). 9/10.

A Man Who Has To Do His Own Voiceovers
It began with the lights going out and Andy introducing himself, “a man who has do his own voiceovers at his shows, please welcome Andy Parsons”, to which he arrived in the usual comedian style with thumping music and dancing lights, complete with his trademark grin and jig/walk/slide/dance to the centre of the stage. As soon as he stands there, the clapping subsides and he just grins, instantly the laughing begins and you know you are in for a good show.

Talk Topics
Topics included; politicians, history, modern society, parking, a night in with a fruit nut chocolate bar, Iggle Piggle, current topics from the past couple of weeks and also what makes Britain great! He also asked “What annoys Leamington Spa”, to which a wall of silence was the response despite a sell out audience. Ammo is what you have to give comedians and he was given nothing, but without being unnerved he carried on seamlessly rolling on the show providing great laughs.

Hit List
On his hit list where; politicians, city bankers, teachers, traffic wardens, Katie Price, Peter Andre, Iggle Piggle, and of course the front row of the audience. At this gig was a guy called Tony who took the biggest battering, he had a moustache, came on his own to the show and used to work looking at school buildings in Coventry, but for some reason was no longer allowed to! The jokes flowed.

Oooops
Andy is an incredibly likeable and a very natural comedian. He even nearly fluffed a joke involving Michael Jackson and George Michael. I hadn’t even realised he nearly cocked it up until after he finished the gag he giggled and said ooops nearly cocked that joke right up! Openly admitting a little giggle from him normally means he has slightly got it wrong, only adding to his likeability.

The Campaign
Andy also championed his campaign to get Iggle Piggle banned! Don’t ban the comedians from the BBC, ban Iggle Piggle! For those who don’t know he is a small cute blue teddy from the CBBC program ‘In The Night Garden’. With Iggle Piggle any small surpise causes him to fall over, and now Andy’s nephew does the same, not cool Iggle.

What Makes Britain Great
Towards the end of the gig soft music began to play, and Andy began his speech about why he loves Britain, it added another element to the performance, a final farewell to sign off a great night.

Encore – We’re All Busy People
As the music began to blare and the final applause began the music instantly cut and Andy said “right thanks, lets get on with it, fuck it we’re all busy people!”. And he closed the show bringing back previous jokes full circle, showing off his confidence as a performer, ability to mould a joke around a whole night – and leave the audience on a high with big laughs.

Live Stand Up
If you get the chance I highly recommend you go and watch him live, it is a great night out well worth the money. You can see his latest tour dates on his Myspace page.

DVD – Britains Got Idiots

You can see on the right hand side a photo of the website using my Blackberry Curve, you don’t have to have a smartphone though as it looks the same on all devices. The site is nicely designed with our logo and regular colour scheme. Thanks to Mobile Web Junkie for helping out with the implementation and doing the design.

It is designed so it loads fast, but you still get to read exactly the same good quality content. The only downside is that if you don’t have an iPhone then videos will not be playable directly in the post, you will have to click on a link to view the video. But it’s only a very small negative point, and hopefully that can change soon as well!

Alternatively if you don’t like to browse the web from your handheld, then you could subscribe to emails (totally free, unsubscribe any time), and then read the content in full in your inbox. Or if that doesn’t float your boat don’t forget to bookmark us.

Here is an interesting video which shows a piece of paper which has 4 different shades of blue on it. But when a pencil is put over the lines suddenly the colors either side merge and appear to be the same.

So is this just the eye being tricked, or has the creator used video editing software to fool us?

This video is a hot topic with opinion split. The creator says that it is genuine. The only way to really find out for yourself is to do it on your own – using a drawing program on your computer such as Paint exactly the same as this guy did, print it out, grab a pencil and see for yourself!

‘Benidorm’ is the very funny award winning series on ITV. Featuring characters such as Jeff ‘The Oracle’ played by Johnny Vegas, Madge the super tan granny always in a scooter, and Donald & Jacqueline the loveable swingers! Not forgetting Mick, Janice and the Garvey kids.

If you’ve not had chance to see all episodes of the first few series then get your hands on the DVDs or watch out for repeats on channels such as ITV2. Beef curtains!

Probably the best of all the series of Blackadder written by Richard Curtis & Ben Elton. Blackadder Goes Forth was a brilliant mix of clever lines, cheesy jokes and a bit of silliness (remember the court case for the lovely, plump, speckily pigeon called Speckled Jim), all wrapped around a brilliant storyline about Edmund trying to avoid going ‘over the top’ during World War 1.

Blackadder Goes Forth really was a great series, you can watch clips on YouTube but if you want to enjoy it fully again you can buy the DVD from Amazon for around £5, money well spent on what is a classic BBC production. As George said “This is, as they say, it?”, they don’t make series like this any more!

Andy Parsons – Britain’s Got Idiots
The ‘Mock The Week’ regular gets off his chest things that infuriate him about living in Britain! He manages to challenge your views on topics you thought you don’t even care about. Andy is definitely one of the most astute and underrated comedians around, he doesn’t get attention of others such as Frankie Boyle, but this DVD should definitely be on your list.

Jimmy Carr – Telling Jokes
This is the 5th DVD to be released by Jimmy which contains 90 minutes of material which is simply too rude to be shown on normal television. This releases marks 10 successful years in comedy for him and has Mr Carr on his usual game delivering delightfully crafted one-liners and putting down hecklers in a brutal way. As Jimmy himself says “It’s not for the faint hearted (the faint hearted should also avoid salt).”

Lee Evans – Access All Arenas
A true great of British comedy, this release brings together some of the most hilarious moments from his arena tours including; Wired & Wonderful; Live At Wembley; XL Tour 2005; Big – Live At The 02. All moments are introduced by the man himself. Also has an exclusive interview with Phil Jupitus where he talks about his record-breaking career giving fans a unique insight in to Lee and his life.

Russell Howard – Dingledodies
The master of random impressions brings us a new release recorded live during his recent tour. Always bringing an incredibly energetic performance to the stage with plenty of hilarious material. Despite still being a young comedian his performances are very well put together and brilliantly executed making him a real one to watch.

Season 13 of the awesome South Park is currently showing in the US on Comedy Central. This year it has had an appearance from Kanye West, and past series have seen lots of other celebrity impressions.

If you haven’t yet seen Kanye’s spoof appearance it features Mr West being ridiculed thanks to a song called Gayfish. Maybe this will give his ego a knock so he keeps his mouth shut at appropriate times!

A new spin-off from Family Guy is on its way, The Cleveland Show is as the name suggests – a show evolving around Cleveland Brown.

This spin-off does mean the end for Cleveland in Family Guy which is a shame as he always chipped in with some good lines but hopefully his own show makes it worthwhile.

Here is a couple of trailers from Fox, the series premier is on September 27th in the US, and it will come to the UK and air on E4. The first season has 22 episodes!

Apparently Fox have already booked a second season of the Cleveland Show so it looks like at least 2 series of it will be shown. Watch out for more clips.

Here is a few videos picked out from Jokeyphone. Although it’s a slick website, to be honest most of the jokes on their website at the moment simply aren’t funny, hopefully that improves! But for the moment here are a couple of the top viewed ones.

Watch out for more in the future as no doubt the quality will improve further.

Radio Gaga
There was a blonde driving down the highway listening to the radio. The presenter was telling blonde joke after blonde joke until she was so mad she turned the radio off. A mile later, she sees another blonde out in a corn field in a boat rowing. She stopped her car, jumped out and yelled, “It’s blondes like you that give us all a bad name. If I could swim I’d come out there and give you what’s coming to you!”

Here is a collection of 5 funny classic clips from the popular Channel 4 comedy Father Ted. From the fictional Craggy Island the program is home to 3 special Irish Catholic priests, and don’t forget the tea lady Mrs Doyle!

Jason Manford is probably best known for being on the comedy panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats, hosted by Jimmy Carr. He hasn’t been around for too many years but is already a very popular comedian. He talks about very topical things and the general things blokes talk about (like football etc), with a great sense of humour.

London’s Ealing Comedy Festival 2009 kicks off this Friday. Here are the dates for this years event:

As I write this article Wednesday is already sold out but tickets are available on the other days. Comedians this year include some big names such as; Sean Lock, Stephen K Amos, Shappi Khorsandi, Ricky Grover and also a ‘very special guest’. So if you are in the area this weekend or next week it looks like a good night worth seeing.
