I’m in New Orleans this week for PubCon Spring 2013. My family came along, so we had Monday to run around the French Quarter together.

Something about the Thursday and Friday night football broadcast with Rod Gilmore and Joe Tessitore has always seemed familiar to me. It finally hit me.

Yes, the resemblance to the two sportscasters from Bedazzled is remarkable.

I would think this was intentional, but the movie was filmed in 2000 and Tessitore didn’t even start working at ESPN until 2002. As far as I can tell, they hadn’t worked together on screen before ESPN.…

For several seasons now, a crowd has been gathering to watch the Texas Longhorns walk in to Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium before home football games. As the event has grown in popularity, it’s been harder and harder to actually see.

Pistorius Raises Questions

Without question, the feel-good story of the London 2012 Olympics, at least so far, is the competition by Oscar Pistorius, a paraplegic who made it to the semi-final of the 400 meter dash on a pair of carbon-fiber prosthetics.

Pistorius had to petition the Olympic committee to be allowed to compete, and there are some who believe that the prosthetic legs gave him an unfair advantage.

That, of course, is inane. At least today.

Marine Video Disgusting, but not Surprising

By now, you’ve probably seen the video of four U.S. Marines urinating on the corpses of several Taliban members. But in case you haven’t, here’s a link to the video on YouTube. Note: This is not safe for work.

As of this afternoon, all four Marines have been identified, and a three-star general has been tasked with determining what disciplinary action should be taken. Without question, the action should be harsh and taken expeditiously.

Most people think the BCS got this season’s two best teams into the National Championship Game. Of course, the computers solidly disagreed with this sentiment, and it doesn’t really hold up to scrutiny of comparative non-conference schedules.

Someone Explain Tim Tebow to Me

Tim Tebow is a conundrum, that’s for sure. He had seven or eight plays yesterday that were amazing. Against perhaps the best defense in the league.

Then, for the rest of the game, he looked approximately the way I would have out there.

But the seven or eight plays were enough to get the Denver Broncos the victory. I can’t explain it.
