Forty two of us made it up to Callignee on saturday to the new hall built after the bushfires..which is now the official home of the Stitch N Chat group.
Lots of embroideries/quilts on show and the food!! and the flowers! More images soon but here are a few snaps...I hope the committee will make it an annual event...I know that everyone there felt looked after and valued...the quilt 'Birds of a Feather" pattern designed and made by the group is now available for sale..by individual blocks and by entire quilt pattertn..it has some amusing designs...a crow who can sew..a robin with bobbins, knitting swifts etc etc...such a lovely venue...great surroundings with the tall timber nearly visible thru the mist...
Below is the quilt block/embroidery roll/holder that I designed for the day..."All Birds stitch it together"...we started the heart pincushion...which was fun...Katie was a great help to everyone with her can do attitude. Carol from Maggie robertson designs in Traralgon was there with her shop and lots of Cottage Garden threads available on the day too...will post some further pics as soon as I get them..thank you ladies...Brenda
The Engineer made this pattern for me a few years ago...you need six segments...stitch all together ...leaving just a small opening in the base to turn thru...fill very full...squash into a pear shape...sculpt with a long needle thru the segments where the pear narrows...decorate with French knots, seeding stitch, Lazy Daisy etc...stitchery is added after the pear is constructed....at least three strands of stranded cotton or perle 8 threads are the simplest option...
Add a little covered wire stem with a leaf!! Fun...Brenda

I will be there with a "Homecoming" table runner and some other bits if i finish them in time!!... the pieces feature applique..Daisy Cotton felt and a few unusual stitches ..Rope stitch in particular..

I will be having a workshop each day demonstrating and passing on some tips etc about using the new range of Daisy Cotton felt from Cottage Garden Threads and also Pam's new range of "Wool Rose felt Ribbon" ...below is a pic of a brooch using some of the techniques...perhaps I will see you the Fair in Melbourne from this Thursday until Sunday
Quilt aid 2011...a sneak peek...these are some of the fabric that Helen sent to me for the Quilt Aid 2011 and below is a little sample of the block...I was very pleased to be asked to be part of the project as it is for a very good cause...no doubt the cause will be even more now that Africa has a terrible drought to deal with too. More about it soon...

Lovely weekend at Rochester...a great group of students as usual and beautiful home cooked lunches, soups, scones and jam and cream etc etc etc...Thank you to Maureen for her invitation to teach in her most welcoming shop with her beautiful, post flood,renovated floor!
We made a good start on 'Harriet's Cottage Garden" with everybody starting to stitch 'Harriet"she is slim little soul!!!..we had a few issues with Colonial knots but with a little perseverance all obstacles can be overcome...I have high hopes of having convinced one more quilter /patchworker to abandon the blessed tiny applique needles they all become addicted to in favour of a perfectly good size 8 or even a 10 crewel...this is just a little side project of mine to change the world just a little before I pass into that large airy and light sewing room in the sky. We used Cottage garden threads and I also ran a small tutorial on making all sorts of flowers from Daisy cotton felt also by Cottage Garden ...great fun!..some pics later on I hope...Cheers ...Brenda
