Boulevart is looking for young motivated trainees with a SuperDuper knowledge of PHP. Since we’re big fans of Drupal, a (basic) understanding of the Drupal CMS is required too! Otherwise you’ll have to convince us that you’re a quick learner, Chuck Norris Speed.

In standards we trust

Besides your PHP skills you’re familiar with (x)html and css, you know the difference between div’s and table’s and you yell at people who create their website in dreamweaver’s design mode. Knowledge of semantics & webstandards is definitely a plus.

What’s in it for you?

You’ll be able to work on some cool projects together with very skilled developers. At boulevart we all have one goal in common: to be the best at what we do. We constantly try to push each other to a higher level. Besides cool colleagues, we have an unlimited amount of coffee and a Nabaztag that can’t stop talking.

Sounds interesting?

If you’re a motivated person who’s eager to learn, anything’s possible! Interested? Questions? Just drop us an e-mail with your motivation and a resumé. Lets get started!

A few weeks ago theFWA released their brand new FWAPhoto concept. An online gallery showcasing the worlds most beautiful artwork. Together with Group94, they released an AIR-based screensaver called ‘lightboxer’ which brings FWAPhoto to the desktop. It visualizes the photo of the day, but that’s not all. In order to personalize the photostream, people are able to add their favourite pictures in the lightboxer. This is perfectly manageble on fwaphoto.com, the beautiful homepage of this initiative.

A nice interaction between multiple platforms, but living in 2009 this interactive experience should be manageble via your mobile phone, right? And that’s where Boulevart came in.

FWAPhoto on the iPhone

We have an exclusive gallery showcasing the greatest photo-graphical art and we want to access this from a mobile device. Which one suits this initiative better than the iPhone? Group94 contacted us with this question and we could not agree more.

We started talking about what the iPhone application should have to offer, how users should use it and how to implement the sexy iPhone features like auto rotation, sms bubbles and touchscreen-swiping. Thomas gathered all the brainstorm results and started working on a first rough sketchpaper.

Thomas

Working with Group94 & theFWA is very exciting because you know that the focus will be on quality and experience. From the moment we started talking with them I felt that we were on the same level. Let’s bring FWAPhoto to the iPhone and create the perfect finishing touch. It was quite obvious from the start: this application needed to be clean, sexy, easy to use and capable of managing your lightboxer without any effort.

In order to straighten out everything that should and could be happening in the application, I started writing down every possible user story. Together with my colleagues Wim Vanhenden & Andy Jacobs we finalized and fine-tuned the whole bunch. After that, I started using our sketchpaper in order to visualize the entire application flow. I’m a big fan of this type of approach, it adds a lot of value for all parties involved in a mobile project. First of all it offers a great overview of all the user stories that need to be developed. A dream for developers and project managers in order to stay on top of their games. For our clients it is a nice way of communicating as well because there is almost no room for misunderstandings and last-minute change requests. Before we begin everything is clearly communicated and visualized so they can update us with questions or requests before it’s to late.

After creating the sketchapers we went over them together with Group94 & theFWA. Despite a few changes here and there we already had a clear view of how the application should function and look like. The minute we received an official go from theFWA it was time for Andy Jacobs to come in and play.

Andy

I had already done quite a lot of iPhone development research but I must admit this FWAPhoto application was my first-timer. Developing a real iPhone application was a challenge but definitely one I was happy to face. It was not always easy as I was the only in-house developer with objective-c experience. I was on my own for this one but I had the internet on my side. I had lot’s of questions but most of them were solved thanks to the active community at stackoverflow.com.

Because we prepared ourselves well, I had enough time to consider different approaches on certain features. For example: we wanted to visualize the photo comments in a typical iPhone ’sms bubbles’ style, but it turned out a bit more difficult then expected. Together with Thomas I started looking for the best way to create this look. We tried it with CSS but the result could not compete with the one we achieved via a uitableview.

It’s amazing to see how much I’ve learned after 10 days of active iPhone development. Because I wanted to give something back to the community, I decided to spice up my blog with Quick Tips on iPhone development from an Actionscript point of view. Having several positive comments daily from people who were facing the same problems I had, I think I can say it helped out other developers too. This even resulted in several requests from organisations who are willing to book me for one day iPhone development workshops, especially for Actionscript developers who are eager to discover new opportunities.

Andy made a little video showing the iPhone application. Feel free to give it a go and make sure to visit fwaphoto.com and get that lightboxer running on your desktop!

What has been a dream for many years turned into a reality: Boulevart is included twice in this month’s exclusive FWA gallery. We celebrated the first victory on March 21, 2009 when our lead developer Wim Vanhenden saw his portfolio being showcased in thefwa’s gallery. 2 days later we got mentioned a second time thanks to fwaphoto.com.

We all know theFWA as a creativity gallery where the worlds best online projects get showcased as ‘website of the day’. We think we can speak for all of us: to get in there is a dream for every passionate agency or online production company.

wimvanhenden.be

You don’t see them very often these days ( or at least we are missing them ) but our very own Wim Vanhenden released his personal website a while ago and to be honest: it is a little bit experimental. Hmm, let us rephrase that last sentence: it is totally experimental.

Take a look around at wimvanhenden.be and let this Belgian internet artist know who your favourite band is and what you are thinking. Thanks to your input and a strong focus on art and an experimental experience Wim will take you on an exciting and personalized journey. Powered with love by Boulevart and a must-see if you ask us.

FWAPhoto

In March 2009 the FWA decided to not only target online experiences and expanded there initiative with a brand new photo of the day concept: FWAPhoto.com.

The website was build by our talented friends over at Group94 and we made sure this service became iPhone optimized. Our in-house iPhone expert Andy Jacobs developed this sexy native application which allows you to check FWAPhoto on your iPhone wherever yo are, at work, home or on the move. The iPhone application is already aproved and waiting for you to give it a go

Exciting things happened here at Boulevart the last couple of months. We went through some changes, developed exciting new things, won awards, …
A lot to talk about but as you might noticed, we did not really communicate much lately. Not that we did not want to, we were just waiting for the right timing.

Together with our re-styled blog we think that time has finally come. We gave our online communication platform a fresh new look and feel, but that’s not all. From now on our blog will no longer act as just a technical lab, we felt that it was time for something bigger.

The bigger picture

No need to panic, labs.boulevart is not dead. We will keep encouraging our developers to share their technological expertise, covering Flash, Flex, Air, Mobile, HTML&CSS, php, .NET, … So what’s this new blog about then? On a regular base we will provide quality articles giving you front-row seats in our visions and beliefs. Next to that we’re also focussing on the latest and newest cases, you’ll get a glance at the final result and find out the ins and outs directly from those who designed, developed and managed it. Via our blog you’ll get a closer look at Boulevart: see what happens behind our scenes and how we experience everything that’s going on here.

Design the content

Good, qualitative content and a lay-out that we can easily re-style for each article. Giving shape to our content - not just one template to rule them all! It’s almost like creating a magazine - “3.0″.

We love to share

Besides that, some of you already know that we love to create and share. From now on we will engage ourselves even more and store everything worth sharing into our Boulevart Goodies section. Feel free to have a look around in the near future, you might find some interesting stuff! We are also going to concentrate more on updating our specials & events calendar. Find out which public conferences, festivals, meetings, … we will be attending in the future and come meet us for a drink and a talk.

Digital Innovation Partner

As you can see we re-styled our blog and that’s exactly what we did with our company baseline as well. Changing it into ‘Digital Innovation Partner’ we decided to focus more on creating Rich Internet Experiences offering high and fast Return On Investment. With a strong team of highly qualified multimedia consultants we design and develop interactive and innovative online experiences accessible from every platform, going from the web to desktop and mobile.

That’s all for now, but a lot more exciting news is coming so stay tuned! Besides that we hope our new blog gives you a closer and more detailed overview of everything we create, share, experience and believe in.
