NYSC Camp Diaries Week 3. (The day we collected our Allowee & CRAZY GIST)

Dec 1st: Week 3 (thursday)

Today is going to be the Mr NYSC & Ms NYSC pageant. Yesterday on wednesday we had Project fame/ Camp idol ( i skipped that).

My favorite part!!! Today they PAID us 19,800 naira Allowance or "Allowee" as some call it ($125)! woot woot!!! The N200 notes make it look huge! (fast forward to the future in real time right now NYSC hasnt paid us since last month, rumors are that they're having cash flow problems, I choose not to believe that and I am patiently waiting to receive my minimum wage of N19,800 from the government)

In line for our money: Geez they had "ghana must go" bags of money!!! (whats the real name of that bag??)

This is a pretty short line by NYSC standards

MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!!!!!!!! N19,800 or $124.94

they actually give you various allowances while on camp like N1,500 but... this is the big one :) who doesnt like free money no matter the amount?

Was super!!!! tempted to photoshop my picture, but the truth is, heaven help you if you look decent by week 3. I know people who marched under the hot sun, everyday for 3 weeks of camp, and I swear a year later it seems their tans never fully left. I also know people from different batches that got super sick; a lot of people get sick. So I cant complain if I look like this, especially with the heat.

PS: about my last post with manual village, my little sister can't wait to do it, hahahaha and a bunch of people commented asking how on earth people climbed such. To be honest I don't know, I was busy pretending to sign the "Book of life" with a different platoon and didn't wanna get caught (yup that was the picture I took under the canopy in the last post!). HAHA can u imagine me climbing that wall?? U would have to place an Hermes bag, juicy double quarter pounder with cheese burger & a Nigerian Single version of Boris kodjoe up there for me to climb it. Abeg!

Today a bunch of corper are leaving campus, they probably got exeats to go and deposit their cash so they don't "blow it" in mami market and to prevent it from getting stolen.

Grabbed a drink with some friends in Mami Market. Signed my book of life (the later the days passed, the less people in line). and faded with my money!

OMG LET ME GIST YOU!!!! Would you have sex in our gross camp?

*in my gossip voice* SO one faithful morning everyone was called downstairs to be punished. Yes punished!!! Those army people don't play, you better serve your punishment. Guess why!! They caught 3, not 3 people but 3 COUPLES having sex!!! in the courtyard!!! CRAZY HUH! CRAZY! apparently the guys escaped and the ladies were caught. I have no idea if these people knew each other before camp, if they were in 3 different corners, why the same day, and why on earth in the courtyard where both the guys & girls hostels could see them. Cant remember the time it happened like between 10pm - 5am, historical amnseia. But crazy! so everyone got punished. LMAO. typical nigerian school punishments, "Kneel down", "frog jump" etcThese apparently never ever happens, the authorities were furious! Other campers were like "gosh it's just 3 weeks, couldn't they wait just 3 weeks with sex" hahaha I guess not!

NEXT STOP: Graduation/ Passing out Ceremony and hello workforce. During these 3 weeks the government is deciding our primary place of employment and we'll find out on our passing out day.

CAMP DIARIES: DAY 2 - WEEK 2

So as most of you know I'm currently doing my National Youth Service NYSC. And being a great blogger I blogged about it & Ok soo I posted my camp diaries: Day 1 (Camp Diaries Day 1, 31 roommates post). Then being a bad blogger i didn't finish talking about the experience. Soooo..... Im here to tie loose ends since a lot of people have asked about it, and I feel guilty, like in relationships you gotta close old chapters to move forward right?

So now we've had a refresher :) Let's proceed to day 2. I took my cell phone, and actually typed my "camp diaries" in my memopad.

so lets go back in time to November 2010

IYANA IPAJA CAMP (lagos)

Week 1, DAY 2:

Whoops it rained today. lol that's what happens when you live in the tropics. I've given up and deleted my weather channel app, cause it definitely doesn't work for Nigeria. So far the itinerary has been wake up 4.30am, be ready 5am, bla bla bla (for those in camp who don't have an exeat, or those who get there 5am). I just want my uniform!

Crap, I finally got my uniform, but found a way to lose one leg of my white canvas. Great and unlike most people who get random sizes and have to try to trade with strangers for their right size, mine was my perfect size. Having big feet finally came in handy, I was able to get a new pair from a male friend in my group (the guy i used his stapler/ Eddie/ Endurance).

My roommates are really cool (well the 5 out of 31 that I spoke to). Actually I like most people I've spoken to. This feels like pledging a sorority/ fraternity... the process makes you click with a lot of people. flash forward: Im still friends with 3 of the girls from camp and super close to 1, I guess you can actually make friends in camp.

Week 2

People signed the book of life ( tip: the line is crazy long, you go platoon by platoon, people suffer to sign, even if your on exeat you better bring your butt to camp and sign, don't know why it's important, nor do I remember what's on it, but you sha have to sign it. I think later theyll print a book with our info, horrid passport pictures etc, but till then I honestly don't know. THE TIP: last day, passing out, book of life is still open, and there's no one in line, good luck sha if this changes, but if you were never in camp, lucky you)

OH DEAR GOSH!! look at me in that shitty uniform! LOOK AT MY PANTS! DEAR GOSH!! Camp makes me look like a suffer head!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! UGH!!! other pics are worse. I swore to bring my sexy camera for passing out/ grad day, so my REAL beauty can show. LOL.

My pants: Jumpay! Short! whatever you wanna call em. and the buttons wouldnt close well, geez talk about trying not to pull a britney. I had to buy some other pants with a zip. the material of the clothes they give us are beyond cheap. Some people never wash their cuz it shrinks, some buy the material from mami market and sew theirs.

Arise Fashion Week Sunday. last day pictures... Oh yea.... better late than never!

Yea yea... we know I'm that girlfriend in the blog world that's always late! but... you know she'll always come thru, just needs a clock. lol. Working on it :) Admitting you have a problem with time management is the first step, 2nd step is change, yea.... that's what I'm working on.

me! braces come off in 4 months!!! & I'll start cheesing again!! Cant wait! Cause my smile's been soooo freaking odd for a year and half since I got braces (i pray it wasnt like this before braces lol)

So... last day Of Arise fashion week: Sunday. Sunday was soooo packed!! There was barely any parking space available, like friday and other weekend days, people had to park outside the hotel. I got there took a few pictures, then ran out headed to Evening Mass (I had a high waist skirt in the car, so I put that on top of my shorts, ran back to Federal Palace, and circled it for an hour while begging for a parking space so I wouldnt have to park outside the hotel again).

Oh gosh show was Mar- and Im not sure where i dropped their card! (hides face) But these lovely twins were super sweet!!!! they designed everything, their clothes & jewelry & I believe their based in NYC.

LOVE THE BACK!!!! (I'm such a stalkerazzi. wish i knew who made it, or where she got it)

The show was packed. Remember those VVIP tickets that guaranteed you'd be front row, and the awesome pictures I took on previous days, Well that was all gone. It seemed liked every soul in the tent had VVIP tickets, but not everyone can fit front row. Luckily while I was in church Nkoli held the fort down and saved me a seat when they moved tents. Unfortunately my seat was so close to the runway entrance/exit that lightening and pictures didn't come out great. For you guys I tried!! I swear I did, I stood at random places, tried to get space where photographers with media passes stood, I tried so much to get pictures, that I finally gave up and watched the show. OMG Oswald Boateng was there!! NICE. Next year if I decide to go, I'll go on a weekday after work, get great pictures, then if I choose to bother on the weekend, I'll ask for a media pass, and get good pictures.

So as i end this post about Thisday's Arise magazine Fashion week I'd like to send my sympathies to all those affected by the Thisday bomb blasts/ attacks in both Abuja & Kano, and other media companies. It's a hard for many in the country, and my heart goes out to everyone dealing with the loss of loved ones, job insecurity, injuries and so much more. It's a really difficult time here, and we all and go about trying to live life and praying it gets better.

10 year high school reunion (& aunt julie's 50th) part 2

So after all my running around, hustling for ride with my mums car, or my brother, I finally made it really early, lol no... well super late to my reunion. People offered me food but I said no thanks. I didn't pay for the reunion, so def ain't eating. I really wanted to pay and attend, but I had a goal to pay off my credit card, which i also used to buy stuff when i was moving, camera gear etc.

Oh and my fabulous studio gear blew up, that's a diff story, but there went $700. It was gonna be my started kit, and it was American system. I didn't blow it, but oh well shit happens and I should have been more careful. Then I also paid to get my car serviced, about N40k (which was a deal!), basically it was end of the year finances were tight. And I was only gonna spend was the money if I'd get prawns in the buffet. I swear I'm not joking, prawns are sooo expensive, and i love em, not shrimp but PRAWNS. King prawns. I couldn't justify paying to eat rice and stew especially when I had three events.

So I spoke to those in charge, who I love and decided I'd stop by to say hi even if i didn't pay because it would be sooo cool to see everyone. The committee put in sooo much effort into the night it was amazing. they had a lovely set up at a hotel, food, drinks, pictures, etc. It's friends from my year/set that decided to do it not my school, and we set it 2012 xmas time knowing that's when a lot of people would be in Nigeria.

It was great, rekindled friendships etc.

LMAO!!!!!!!! look at my stank face!! I didn't even think the camera would catch me in any picture! I LOVE ABIES. she just got married & the guy was in my school too HOW COOL. we love great shows like True Blood (im about to stop loving that show) & GAME OF THRONES!!!!!!!!!!

Pictures are funny, in them I see people firsts (first kiss or whatever you want it to be), people's lasts, people now married, friends that aren't anymore, best friends, future couples, an amazing night! Loved it. It's soo weird so many memories, kids I knew, now have adult jobs! Engineers, Lawyers, running their own companies: I think we're growing up!!!

If i tell you guys the crazy psycho experiences we had in boarding school you wouldn't believe it, but if you went to boarding school in Nigeria you totally get it (it's the norm for secondary school students/ 7th-12th grade to go to a boarding school here, some don't but it's pretty normal)!

Deji!! (we used to be in class together, gosh he's currently soooo smart, I cant remember back then, but he has soo much potential for greatness, like he could end up on forbes etc)

Aunt Julie's 50th Birthday (& 10 year reunion)

Hi Everyone,

I just realized this will be a super long post because the pictures are too much. I had three events to attend, my aunt Julie's 50th birthday, my 10 year high reunion dinner (YES boarding school was a decade ago, omg we're getting old, then again we all finished high school about ages 15-17), and lastly a wedding.

I kinda went really late, with a lot of people, and i think we only had two cars, 1 driver, horrible logistics, events were Nigerian time, and at the same time, so let's just say it was a crazy night. I sadly only made it to two events.

So the first my Aunt Julie's 50th. Crazy thing, my aunt & my mum have been friends since they were about 18 years old!! They're practically sisters. I just realized this post (in two parts) is filled with pictures of family and old friends.

Hey Boy's brigade: "Always Be Prepared." When your feet starts to hurt, you'd also say, "screw you fashion," and I'm too classy to go barefoot. Even during my early college years, when my feet hurt in the club, I was classy enough to put my shoes under a table (so they don't get stolen) and stand on the table, unlike other people who where ghetto & dancing on the nasty floor, with spilled alcohol.... LMAO now that's class!!!!! Be happy for the upgrade, (sandals instead of feet, and they match my outfit) and don't worry I forgot the shoes in the car so ended up wearing heels all night.

Ejeme!! (Jini) All the other ladies take forever. We're smart enough to get ready quick so we can take pictures before the sun goes down lol

Nneka's Christmas trip to Lagos (2011-2012)

Hi everyone,

I'm really glad everyone's enjoyed my pictures of Lagos, and thanks for all the compliments on my photography, woot woot *sings* we're moving on up... lol.

Life in Nigeria's not bad at all, similar to life in ATL. No matter where you go you just have to make the best of it. I have a lot of fun in Lagos, everyone "seems" nice and everyone warns you about everyone else being fake. I haven't really talked about people here or dating etc, but Lagos is wild, i joke it's Babylon.

Christmas time feels like spring break, and well I called it spring break. Let me explain. Spring break is a week in the United States when students get a week around March (give or take a week). During this week a lot of college kids travel to fun destinations warm destinations like Miami (you can blog search my spring breaks *top right of blog there's a search bar*). It's college kids, alcohol, LOADS OF PEOPLE & LOTS OF PARTYING, crazy fun, you meet a lot of people from different places, everyone's on holiday and trying to have fun.

So Christmas time in Nigeria, people are off work for a week or two; schools out; imports come in ( a lot of kids school abroad, and a good percentage come home for christmas), lots of weddings happen, lots of events, lots of fun, lots of clubs, lots of parties, christmas flings, food, food, beach parties, it's Vegas here, and of course warm weather.

So after months of staying here i missed my friends that i made the 10 years I lived in Atl, and begged my cousin/ one of my bff's Nneka to come to Nigeria for christmas. Bear in mind Nneka's only been here once before. Eitherways she agreed (love you Nneka!!), bought a ticket, and came to Nigeria.

I'm a "village chick" lol, Easters, Christmas are normally spent in the village, never spent christmas in the city/ Lagos well except 6 christmas' in Atlanta. So it was our first time spending christmas in lagos which everyone should do once to three times, after that I hear it gets old, kinda like spring break in the same city.

Here's Nneka's trip to Lagos, Nigeria, so you can pretend that it's you visiting Lagos (in the past I showed you my friends trips to Dubai, so this shouldn't be a new concept seeing a post thru someone else's eyes that isn't me, and I think you'll enjoy it..)

Hi all,

In the last post you saw the red carpet / street style and me & tobi rushing to the show after work. Well here are the pictures of the runway. Someone commented that the audience wasn't much, probably cause it was a work/ school week. Fri-Sunday was beyond hectic, parking was psycho, we'll go into that in the Sunday post.

Thursday was awesome!!! I loved it. Sure it started a couple hours late, but it went smoothly. There was barely any wasting of time. Great seats so nice pictures. It wasn't stressful. really fun and well organized. I love the lighting, out of all the days I went, Thursdays lighting was definitely my favorite and on point.

I've forgotten her name, but she's a pretty big up & coming model, and I think she might have won face of Arise last year. She's so pretty and young about 17 (EDIT: her name is Chika Emmanuel, tnx)

Loza Maleombho (US / Cote d'Ivoire)

what's cool is that the designer won an Arise award and the model (edit: Georgie) that walked with her at the end also won a model award, dont remember what it was but when they both came up to get their awards (separately) they seemed nice. The model was full of spunk, really nice, dedicated it to the Nigerian models, she's not Nigerian, cause her accent is from a different African country. The designer seemed reserved and very happy to win. You know during award and teh winner looks humble like their about to cry etc. Happy for them

5 designers get to go to show their stuff in New York, you'd probably have to check the arise website for full info of who won etc.

OH MY DAYS!!!! LOOK AT HER TUMMY!!!! gosh I doubt the pizza i had for dinner and breakfast will help me get here. WOW.

Ok so.... Penance it is. You have to forgive me for all the days... ok months that I didn't blog. So yesterday after a full day of work, I did my makeup, met up with Tobi (remember met her at camp, went to the beach few posts ago), who's an awesome host for Cool FM, so if you've heard her voice, now can put a name to the face!

Then we headed to Federal Palace for Thursdays event.

After Wednesday's fiasco i was a bit apprehensive. So event day 3, but truly Day 1 of the fashion shows, but I'll go with the official event days, so no one gets confused.

Went to their restroom, which is definitely not crappy, and we proceeded to change. I really don't wear my work clothes out in civilization, well apart from church... yeah pretty formal for me.

So... this was originally a brown dress, but it was too short, outta options, so i changed it into a shirt, switched it around and put on a red skirt meant for a diff outfit.

The show had started so most people were already inside (started about 6pm so def better than wed's drama). So I quit taking pictures and on my way in.... Ian (thanks babe) showed me the guy from the Rihanna video. You know the one that looked like Chris Brown, in the We found love video! I was like best believe I'm getting a picture.

and finally!!!! The eyes!!! I love his eyes!! He joked if i wanted to take a picture of him or his eyes. yup I was that bad. I love pretty eyes, cant help it. lol.
