Ipohwood to attract tourists

I just found out about this ala-Hollywood sign in Ipoh from one of my ex-student. Despite running a deficit budget, the Ipoh City Council built not one but two giant signs spelling the city's name at entry points on the PLUS expressway for RM800,000! (RM100,000 for each letter that spells out the words Ipoh)

Reasons for building the sign you asked? To turn the city of Ipoh into a significant landmark to entice more tourist stopovers. BS excuse for you know what lah!!!

This is total waste of public funds from the BN Perak government! I got two words for you!

Women-only coaches in Malaysia!

Fuyoh! KTM Bhd. (Malaysia's national railway company) introduced its first women-only coach for the commuter train service operating from Sentul to Port Klang today!

The reason for this implementation?

1. Statistics showed that 60% of KTM Komuter passengers were women;
2. Provide more comfort and security to women; and
3. Protect them from sexual harassment, jostling with male passengers, groping and catcalling.

Named Ladies Only At All Times, the coach is located in the middle among the three coaches of every commuter train. The coaches at the front and back are for all sexes.

A pink women-only coach sticker will be placed on the window, doorway and in the coach area to differentiate the coach from the rest.

Passengers at stations can identify the special coach via a pink banner at the platform and pole.

So what do you folks think of this women-only coaches?

Buy fuel with MyKad and ePetrol service in May 2010

I'm sure most of you are aware of today's main headline news for Malaysia. Yes, is on the issue of petrol subsidy. The plan is to have a new fuel/ petrol subsidy system this coming May 2010, that includes the following policies:-

1. The bigger engine CC for your car, the more you pay for your fuel;
2. Non-Malaysians are not eligible for fuel subsidy; and
3. Purchase of fuel using MyKad with ePetrol service is made compulsary.

What do you think of this new fuel/ petrol subsidy plan?

Or do you think the idea of a monthly 200 liters of petrol for each motorist regardless of the car engine capacity a better policy to be implemented? (this idea was suggested by the FOMCA secretary general, Muhammad Shanni Abdullah)

X-ray shows remote control stuck inside bottom!

Health personnels of Hunan Hangtian Hospital, China, couldn't get to the bottom of a drunk student's pain - until x-rays revealed he had a television remote control stuck up his ass!

The x-ray films showed that 19-year-old Huang Chen had the TV remote lodged up his backside. Police believe it was a part of a prank played by flatmates on Chen when he collapsed after a night's drinking in Changsha, southern China.

Freak shopping mall accident in Kota Bharu shopping mall

The above is the aftermath of a freak accident that just happened in KB Mall shopping mall, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. During the 4.45pm incident, two students from Masterskills College (Kota Baharu branch) were crushed to death when a car driven by Nurain Said, 19, lost control and crashed through the wall and plunged onto the escalator situated at the concourse of the shopping mall.

The weak structure of a retaining wall has been identified as the reason for a car to plunge from the third floor car park of the KB Mall shopping mall. The 1.8m wall was built with bricks without any reinforcement and collapse upon impact!

Wall built with no reinforcement? Boh M@nners!? How can this building be approved as safe in the first place??

Anyway, for safety purpose while you are shopping next time in any shopping mall, check if the escalator is near the entrance or car park.

Liverpool's beach ball display at the National Football Museum

The beach ball which starred in Sunderland's 1-0 victory over Liverpool last month is to go on display at the Preston National Football Museum alongside the ball from the 1966 World Cup Final and the original FA Cup.

The red plastic ball, which deflected a shot past Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina in a 1-0 victory for Sunderland last month, was donated to the museum by Kevin Barlow after his winning bid of 411.77 pounds.

I can understand the curiosity of the public to view this famous beach ball that deflated Liverpool's chance to win the match but some may say that having The Liverpool Beach Ball fan page on Facebook is just Boh M@nners!? A quick check in Facebook revealed that the fan base of the fan pages is now close to 45,000 fans. If you are interested to join, click here. I already did! LOL

Inhumane punishment for not achieving sales target

A saloon-chain in Xian, China had introduced inhumane punishments for employees who did not fulfill their required tasks.

Punishment #1

The manager was punished by being forced to beg for money on the streets when she failed to hit her sales target.

Punishment #2

Another manager from another branch and his wife were forced to slap themselves 40 times each in front of dozens of workers. The man’s face was bleeding after the self-inflicted slaps. He was reported to have failed to hit the sales target as well.

Punishment #3

Female assistant and a male assistant were punished to 100 times and 120 times of push-ups respectively. Most passed out later due to over exhaustion.

Punishment #4

Senior management staff who did not performed up to expectations to wash toilets.

Punishment #5

Under-performing staffs forced to live in the office for a week and made to perform squat-jumping from ground floor to 27th floor.

Punishment #6

Under-performing staffs punished to eat raw bitter gourd.

Punishment #7

Records all punishments on video to show to other staff as a means to "motivate" them?

WTH? Boh M@nners!? Thank God, I don't work with such organization. Have you ever experience similar inhumane punishment at work? Do share it in this post.

Cha pass driver's exam on 950th try + My story on practical driving test

Apparently, a woman in South Korea who tried to pass the written exam for a driver's license with near-daily attempts since April 2005 has finally succeeded on her 950th time.

She (Cha Sa-soon, 68) told the Korea Times newspaper that she spent more than 5 million won (USD$4,200) in application fees (each application for the test cost 6,000 won).

She had obtained scores of 30 to 50 every time, below the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to pass the exam. She finally secured the minimum 60 points last week.

You may be wondering why was she so determined to get a driver's license? Cha, a vendor who sells vegetables at a traditional market in Wanju, North Jeolla Province, said she needs the mobility it would bring to earn a living, and wants to sell vegetables and daily necessities on the move.

The exam nightmare may not be over for our determined grandma as applicants can obtain a driver's license only after passing the written exam and then the practical driving test. But she expects the latter to be easier and plans to register with a private driving school.

My story on practical driving test

Her many attempts of taking the driving test reminds me of my bad experience of practical driving test over here in Bolehland.

On my first attempt of the practical driving test, I was intentionally failed by the driving officer on duty with some really Boh M@nners!? excuses:-

1. I was accused of driving fast though I did not drive the car for more than the permitted 50 km/h maximum driving test speed limit. When I disagreed with his observation since I did not go above the limit, he told me I was driving too slow instead and therefore, is equally dangerous to others on the road. He deducted two points for dangerous driving.
WTH moment #1

2. I was also accused with wrong/ poor use of the manual gear. He said I did not use gear five. How can one drive at a driving test speed limit of 50 km/h in gear five? We were told by our driving instructors never to shift to gear five since it violates the speed limit. He deducted two points for this second lie!
WTH moment #2

3. It suddenly rained heavily towards the end of the test route, and there was this slow-moving tractor in front of me. He told me to overtake the tractor. I remember very well that as told by instructor, this is allowed. So, I put on my signal and drove calmly to overtake after making sure when it is safe. You know what the f**k the officer told me? He said he was just testing me, and told me that a practical driving test candidate is not allowed to overtake another car no matter what the circumstances during the test! He deducted one point for overtaking a vehicle, and ticked on his evaluation form under 'Other offenses' (kesalahan-kesalahan lain).
WTH moment #3

He concluded that I was a dangerous driver, and gave me a 15 points out of 20 points for the test. In order to pass, practical driving test candidates need to get a minimum of 16 points. I totally disagree with his unfair and wrong assessment and voiced out. You know what he told me next? He said, "You tak bayar Pao, Jangan cakap banyak-banyak lah, Gagal, Keputusan muktamad." (You did not pay Pao, therefore don't talk so much, the decision is final, you failed."
WTH moment #4

* Pao is a slang word meaning Bribe money.

In my second attempt of my practical driving test, I passed under the supervision of a clean driving test officer, I scored 20 out of the maximum 20 points. I did not pay any bribe money as I insisted I will never get myself a Kopi-O license like most of my friends did!!!

* Kopi-O is a slang word meaning Bribed driving license.

18 buttons? Yes, presenting the OpenOfficeMouse (OOMouse)! It is preset with profiles to work with WoW, 3D Studio Max, Firefox, the whole OpenOffice suite, and many other softwares.

I guess I will be seeing some of this OOMouses surfacing at my college environment very soon because most of my students are computer game addicts! This means the OOMouse certainly spells trouble as it makes it easier for them to play DOTA in the college labs! Boh M@nners!?

USA National Anthem in Mandarin?

Never knew that the USA's national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, can sound even more high-spirited when it is sang in Mandarin!

Chris is a Canadian, and he certainly got the talent for language translation the lyrics from English to Mandarin. Too bad his blog is open to invited readers only.

Anyway, this unofficial translation is certainly Boh M@nners!? as we should never make jokes with a country's national anthem. However, he should be credited for his creativity.

Note to self: Hmm ... this makes me wonder how would Malaysia's national anthem sounds like in Mandarin? I better not have any thoughts on that! LOL

Dog is conferred an MBA!

In June 2009 a pug dog from Vermont named Chester Ludlow received an online MBA from Rochville University.

The dog's degree was shipped from a post office box in Dubai just one week after "the dog" submitted $499 and his resume to the online school. Along with the MBA, Chester received "two sets of college transcripts, a certificate of distinction in finance, and a certificate of membership in the student council. It also shows the dog graduated with a 3.19 G.P.A. (for an additional $100, he could have graduated with honors).

The dog's owner, GetEducated.com is an online-learning consumer group, reportedly managed to purchase the MBA for its mascot dog named Chester Ludlow.

This is certainly a case of Boh M@nners!?

FYI, Rochville University is a diploma mill. Don't be fool.

Eating Curry Can Kill Cancer Cells

Cancers of the oesophagus/ gullet kills more than 500,000 people across the world each year. The tumours are especially deadly, with five-year survival rates of just 12 to 31 per cent.

"Rates of oesophageal cancer have gone up by more than a half since the 70s and this is thought to be linked to rising rates of obesity, alcohol intake and reflux disease so finding ways to prevent this disease is important" said Dr Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at Cancer Research, UK.

A recent lab research done by the Cork Cancer Research Centre in Ireland found out that a chemical molecule known as Curcumin (available in the spice turmeric, which gives curries a distinctive yellow colour) in curry ingredient, can kill oesophageal cancer cells! Dr. Sharon McKenna and her team found that curcumin started to kill cancer cells within 24 hours!

As a result, this leads to the development of this chemical extract as an anti-cancer treatment! This well-conducted study were published in the British Journal of Cancer. FYI, Curcumin's anti-inflammatory properties can also help fight against a range of other health problems, including arthritis and bowel conditions like Crohn's disease.

So my friends, is time to eat more curry in the future!
Luckily I live in Malaysia, where curry is easily available everywhere.
Eat one curry meal a day, gullet cancer goes away?

Also, I guess this must be great news for the McCurry brand owner in helping their quest to dominate the world with their signature dish, the McCurry!

Remember the Bing Goes the Internet jingle? It was the winning video entry of Jonathan Mann in the Microsoft Bing Jingle contest back in August. Unfortunately, Microsoft now owns the Bing jingle and is subjecting little children to sing it!

Above is the video footage of Keith Valley middle schoolers in Pennsylvania singing the Bing jingle! TechCrunch wrote an article on this and call it Microsoft Tortures Little Kids With Bing Jingle.

I call this marketing branding exercise for Microsoft Bing as Boh M@nners!? as this is so evil!

Note to self: This is exactly what the current Bolehland government is doing with their 1Malaysia marketing campaign. Scary, indeed.

No Dating Zone in Malaysia University

The placement of the above No dating banner within the IIUM/ UIA Gombak campus was not part of the university's decision. It was created and placed there by a student club who call themselves the Maaruf Club as part of their Campus Dakwah Project (CamPro). The club’s aims, among others, are to encourage students to perform the good, avoid the bad and to monitor the students’ moral conduct. I strongly agree with the club's main objectives but this one is just too OMG! I'm quite certain, this action is the first to be found in any teaching institution in the world. Very creative and Malaysia Boleh spirit?

As for me, is certainly another case of Boh M@nners!? No dating? What's next? No walking near another opposite sex in the campus? What about no sitting near another opposite sex? Separate lecture slot for different gender? Separate exam hall for different gender. Hey Maaruf club! Do consider my ideas ya?LOL.
