These past weeks I spent lots of time working on my other “online ventures” and projects it took away some good spare time which I could have dedicated to writing new updates to this blog. Good thing Bloggista.com is still getting a few good traffic hits even in the absence of fresh posts.

Some of the “online ventures” I am working with right now actually revolve around “Affiliate Marketing.” I know a lot of you guys are very familiar with this stuff – and quite a few are actually making some serious money from it.

If there is one thing in the Make Money Online arena that’s really worth considering – it’s Affiliate Marketing. It is simply about selling other people’s products and/or services for a commission – nothing new except that it is done mostly online.

The good thing about Affiliate Marketing is that you can have a really good business without the need for huge investment, in fact most programs can be started for ZERO capital. All you need is access to the internet and a good amount of effort and will.

In Affiliate Marketing, you need to focus on products or services that you probably are familiar with. Because the work needed in AM is about promoting your affiliate links and affiliate websites.

There are no shortages of products and services to market as an affiliate, from electronics, to gadgets, software, clothes, books, website hosting, games, music, movies, hotels, travel packages and even to such things as Viagra, “How To Get Pregnant” and “Get Your Ex Back.” (^wink^)

A good start is to register an associate account at Amazon.com – where you can sell virtually all products it lists on its site and get somewhere between 2% to as high as 20% commission for every sale. Other sites to consider are Pepperjamnetwork.com, Google Affiliate Network, Commission Junction (cj.com) and most e-commerce sites which offer Affiliate Programs.

I believe the stars behind it were elected to either Senate or Congress. The campaign jingle and slogans still “reverberate” in my ears – “Problema Nyo, Sagot Ko!”, “Manong Johnny”, “No more vanishing cellphone loads” etc.

Who could forget those Party List candidates who also benefited by “riding” with the issue – promising every Filipino prepaid mobile phone users – around 30-40 million strong, “reforms” and make sure mobile phone load credits  won’t expire if unused over a period of time (2 weeks, if I got my numbers right).

Now they’re in Congress and the Senate – but who cares about those promises?

Two weeks ago, I purchased 100-peso credits for my prepaid mobile sim card. I use a dual-sim phone (cheap phone from China) – one is prepaid, and the other sim card is on a monthly plan. I just wanna make sure I have other option to call when the “sun” doesn’t shine so bright and I cannot get a good signal.

I managed to send only about 10 text messages with the prepaid sim card, but today I received a message that I have zero credits available and that I need to purchase credits again to avoid sim card de-activation.

Amazing! Or should I say, what a @%*^! robbery.

Seems like our politicos are just fond of “showing off” on TV cameras, with all the rhetorics and eloquence of a great speaker, the sharpness of an expert “interrogator“, and the memory of a “cream dory.”

Look at them now – investigations and hearings in aid of legislation and “media” exposure, but nothing happens. Ask Nemo.

For many advertisers, CPA advertising can be cost-effective, since they only pay for “actual” actions taken, as compared to CPC (cost per click) and CPM (cost per thousand impressions) which do not guarantee actual results.

Although there is no 100-percent “returns” guarantee in online advertising, CPA can be an effective method when launching a fairly new product, service or offer. It is easier to manage advertising budgets against results since the latter is easily measurable, and in normal situations, advertisers get what they are willing to pay for.

CPA can also be mixed with CPC and CPM to achieve a broader exposure and reach of products/services advertised.

CPA programs work well if you have “special” contents, like videos, games, software downloads and on-demand contents. Many CPA ads allow you to “lock” your contents and can be accessed only when the visitor performs an action by “responding” to any of the listed offers.

While creating and maintaining these types of websites can be very challenging, the rewards are bigger. Simple actions like registering to a website offer, survey, or subscribing to newsletter pay around 0.50 cents to as high as 10 dollars.

Some programs pay as much as 20 to several hundreds of dollars per verified lead or actual sale generated.

CPA basic rules and terminologies

When doing CPA, you need to understand some basic rules. Some programs allow “incentivized” traffic, meaning, you can reward visitors just to visit a site, or click on an offer. However, CPA programs allowing incentivized traffics tend to pay less.

Some CPA ads allow “content” lockers, and even provide “content-locking” scripts. Some allow social media traffic like posting the ads or offers in twitter and facebook. Others allow pay-per-click advertising to generate traffic and leads.

To start exploring the revenue opportunities in CPA programs, you can check out LeadBolt and CPAWay, probably two of the best and publisher friendly CPA programs available.

Other programs which also offer CPA opportunities are T3Leads and Pepperjam.

Well the idea is fascinating – you offer your products and service at more than half the price, provided a certain sales volume is reached, and the deal is on! It’s a win-win deal, as it claims, for both customers and business.

Quite a number of businesses are raving about it, sharing how the concept “brought their businesses back to life” and how it helped beefed up sales, and brought in new customers.

If you have a business and want to try it out, you need to pause for a moment and ponder on this question: Is Group Buying good for your business?

And let me ask you further questions:

• How often do you intend to run a Group Buying Deal?
• Will you be able to serve and deliver the quality like when your product or service is purchased at a regular price?
• What are the reasons to go Group Buying? Over-inventory? Expiring products? Cyclical demand?
• Will you be able to take advantage of the customer data and analytics which can be generated upon running the Group Deal? Or will you even have the chance to get those information?
• Do you have a back-end system that stores and processes those data?
• Will it increase customer loyalty, or will you lose some regular customers hoping they get another deal soon?
• What will be the over-all impact to your cost and profit?
• What are the alternatives to Group Buying? Customer Rewards? Affiliate and Referral Program?

Going through these questions will actually help you diagnose the “signs” how your business is doing. If you can regularly offer your products/services at 50% or higher discount, then you probably need to review your pricing strategy.

It will tell you whether you are planning and handling your inventory levels well, or if you are able to manage the demand dynamics of your business.

Group Buying can boost your sales and bring new hordes of customers, but it can also potentially lose you some regular ones. There’s this nice resto that I visit at least twice a month, but after they went on several Group Buying deals, I had to delay my visits hoping I can grab one of those deals and save.

You see, customer behavior is now changing dramatically due to the “splurge” of Online Deals, Internet coupons and discounts, and the promise of huge savings of the same stuff they purchase on a regular basis.

While this trend can help businesses, especially the BIG ONES, it will also potentially “endanger” the small ones and those who are just starting. It can hurt margins big time, and affect the opportunities to expand and grow. No matter how much sales you generated, but making only half of the money will still hurt your profit.

Ultimately, those who are “efficient” in process and systems will prevail. Now there’s a more pressing reason to look at how to improve productivity and efficiency, as well as utilizing tools and systems to help you run your business well.

Group Buying is a hot trend, but it doesn’t mean every business can jump into it. It has disadvantages, and it is foolish for a business to consider Group Buying is the way to go to increase sales, isn’t it? While it is now popular, there’s not much “real urgency” to jump in.

If you are not equipped with the right systems and tools for your business, and very inefficient in managing it, certainly Group Buying Deals will not help.

And no amount of Social Media hype and reviews from the Big Bad Blogger would do if you’re business is not ready for it yet.

Most common are websites and blogs. And then social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. You may have started to build up a number of fans and followers, and started driving good amount of traffic to your website and blogs.

People are probably talking about you, your business, your website or your brand. They probably have shared articles to their friends, recommended your pages to their followers, and even mentioned it on their own blogs, in forum sites, and in other people’s websites.

Benefits to webmasters and bloggers

There are a thousand and one reasons why webmasters and bloggers need to know who linked or mentioned their websites and blogs online. This can be a good tool to search for potential backlinks, or even track who have used their contents of their sites.

In general, Google Alerts is a powerful tool to manage and track your business, brand, blog or website reputation online. It can also be used to track certain keywords, and even “spy” which websites are optimizing the same keywords which you are optimizing.

I don’t want it get wet so I have to leave it there, besides, it was already 3:00 in the morning I won’t be using it anyway. The next day, around noon, head still spinning from the previous night out with my Hawaiian friend, Joe, who also loves beer and watching pretty Makati women (lol – Joe, I’m just trying to be interesting here), I went out to get my stuff.

When I opened the SUV’s front door, I knew I was in for the shock of my life that day – everything is WET! And my notebook pc wasn’t spared.

I later discovered that the vehicle’s “moon-roof” was open, well, a little bit open – not totally closed, and the rainwater freely “dripped” inside.

Eventually, I had most of the notebook parts working except for the Hard Drive! The most important part of it all.

And did you know what saved me from total disaster? I just signed up a Dropbox account a few nights before the incident, thanks to my blogger friend Dexter‘s invite.

So what is Dropbox?

To put it in simple words, just like what they did to their really cool, simple video, it’s a website that lets you “synchronize” your important data and files automatically, or I call it “automagically”.

There’s no need for manual uploading of those files -  just create a folder on you PC, laptop, or mobile device, set it up to synchronize with your Dropbox Online account, and voila! It will  automatically update your remote folders whenever you “drop” some files on your PC’s dropbox folder.

You can even share some files to your friends, like photos and videos. No need to send them by email. You can access your files ANYWHERE, as long as there’s an internet connection. So gone are the days where you have to backup files manually on USB or DISKS.

Dropbox offers a free account with 2GB of space. That’s a lot of files already when you are only storing documents and presentations. Should you need more, you can opt to upgrade, with a fee.

Signing up is easy – simply register and download Dropbox to your computer. You can also install it on multiple computers and devices. It will automatically synchronize all files on your devices’ individual Dropbox folder to your Online Dropbox account. Cool?

You can refer friends also to signup, there’s no monetary rewards of sorts, however you can be credited 250MB of extra space up to a maximum of 8GB when your friends register using your referral link.

So start backing up your Data and Files today. Dropbox is perfect for lazy people like me. But seriously, when was the last time you backed up your data?

I was fortunate that I synched my important files to my Dropbox account, else I would have lost lots of really important documents that day.

Now you know I’m not paying anything for a very important tool when you are using a computer and do a lot of things in the internet like trying to make money online – antivirus, anti-spyware and similar internet security tools. Sounds so cheap eh?

Perhaps I will buy in the future but as for now, I am contented with using the free version of AVG – probably one of the most popular anti-virus and internet security software available today (well to some, it sucks).

Going back to my problem earlier, I went through all the options in AVG Panel but I can’t see any button where I could switch back to AVG Free.

I remembered it exactly when I downloaded and installed the AVG Complete Internet Security Suite 2011 – it suggested that I install the 30-day trial license since I can always switch back to AVG free when it expires and don’t want to buy an upgrade.

Since I can’t find a way to switch it back to AVG Free version, out of frustration, I opted to go to Control Panel and uninstall the darn thing.

Voila, when I click the “Uninstall” button, an option to convert to AVG Free popped out. LOL! So to remind myself, I have to write this post (two more PC’s and another netbook’s trial AVG licenses are soon to expire).

So again, how to switch back to AVG Free version when your AVG Trial license expires?

For windows, simply go to Control Panel, look for the AVG application, select it and click Uninstall. You should see the option “Convert to AVG 20xx Free“. Click it, wait for a moment, and enjoy your AVG Free version.

I too, pondered on the question when, after several months of blogging, I saw people making huge amount of money no pay-per-click advertising, sponsored posts and reviews could ever generate.

While it is true that Affiliate Marketing can earn you money online – with already many people doing it with superior systems, hundreds of add-ons and giveaways, and a massive list of subscribers, there is a little chance ordinary people like us can make money at the level these big guys are making.
