A T1 line router can be purchased alone or a T1 carrier provider is able to issue one, as well as the line service. T1 providers usually supply the router at no additional charge. If they do charge, it is just a slight increase with the T1 lease charged on a monthly basis. By allowing the T1 provider to issue the needed device, this will save money on router hardware that would have had to be purchased. Also, the T1 carrier will be in charge of maintenance on it, should anything go wrong. Troubleshooting should also be much simpler, due to the lack of multiple pieces of equipment being used.

Contracts are important parts of T1 providers. Each provider has various contracts including one and three year deals. This is important because some relationships between providers and customers can become sour. Looking into the contracts that are offered will be important.

Although many providers offer similar looking contracts each provider has its own terms. Customers who have long term deals with some providers can leave before contracts end. This is primarily only if a customer was unsatisfied with T1 connections. A client that dealt with a connection that was not being provided properly can be dropped if needed. Any money lost due to a dropped connection will not be reimbursed.

Each individual provider will have different availability levels for its services. This is because of how each provider has its own unique central offices. These offices work as places where T1 services are based out of. Different providers work in different areas and so will not handle remote places. No matter where a customer is in it will help to check on availability in that customer’s area.

The bandwidth of a T1 line can be high but this is not the case with all T1 line providers. Some providers treat their lines like DSL lines and oversubscribe them.
