Micro-blogging platform Posterous has released a new tool to help Blogger users to migrate their content to Posterous in a very simple manner. In fact, Blogger is now being added to a collection of web services Posterous is integrating in their platform.

Every day since June 22nd 2010, Posterous has been releasing a new tool to help users transfer content from the competition to their platform in a campaign called A new importer per day for the next 15 days.

Tools for Squareforce, TweetPhoto, TwitPic, Xanga, Vox, LiveJournal, Tumblr and Ning have already been released until now to rave user reviews. With today’s launch, Posterous made a big move on the blogging market, going after one of the biggest blogging platforms on the web.

Richard Pearson, vice president of marketing at Posterous described this tool as one of the most important for the company in this cycle, being one of the most requested features by users in the last year. “This launch is very important to us because Blogger has been one of the most requested services by our users, especially outside the United States,” said Mr. Pearson for Spanish blog Genbeta.

Users will be able to move Blogger posts, static pages, tags and even comments just by entering their blog URL address, no change being made to the original Blogger page.

While Tumblr ranks in traffic statistics way higher than Posterous, the company has recently recorded a 700% yearly growth in unique visitors, mainly driven by many of the new tools the company has been releasing lately.

With a very simple editor, a huge array of theme designs, social bookmarking features, support for images, video and audio files, the company attracts users like a magnet. Their leading feature still remains the content auto-updaters for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google Buzz (added a week before the Blogger Importer).

Facebook Senior Engineer Hacked by his Colleagues

Several Facebook employees successfully hacked the password of a senior engineer as part of a challenge to test the security of the site’s administrative system. In order to do it they employed an evil twin wireless attack.

Last month Twitter settled with the Federal Trade Commission following an investigation into two security breaches that resulted in unauthorized individuals obtaining access to the site’s administrative system. Both incidents occurred in early 2009 and involved the compromise of accounts belonging to Twitter employees.

The first incident was the result of a classic brute force dictionary attack against a weak password (happiness), while the second was based on social engineering and involved the hacker compromising a personal email account first. As a result, the micro-blogging site was barred by the FTC for the next twenty years from misleading consumers about the extent to which it protects the security, privacy, and confidentiality of nonpublic consumer information. It was also forced to implement a comprehensive security program, that will be subject to independent audits for the next ten years.

According to TechCrunch, a Facebook site reliability engineer named Pedram Keyani was inspired by Twitter incidents and challenged his colleagues to try and hack him in a similar manner, the end game being access to the site’s administrative system. The “hackers” didn’t bother with phishing attacks or trying to infect the engineer’s computer with password stealing malware.

Instead they went straight to the place where he was most vulnerable, at home. There the “hackers” instrumented what is known as an evil twin attack. They installed a rogue access point, duplicated the settings of his wireless network – same SSID, same channel – and waited.

Being in the comfort of his home and with his guard down, Keyani logged into the rogue access point without realizing anything was wrong. Unfortunately, his colleagues had a traffic snooper installed on the AP, which captured everything, including his Facebook password in plain text.

Keyani considers the test a success, which proves the strong security model of the site. “While they were able to access my personal Facebook account, they were not able to use this information to access any other account on Facebook,” he told TechCrunch. via news softpedia

Why World of Warcraft Will Go Free to Play

It might seem like impossibility at the moment but the winds of change will not spare World of Warcraft, the MMO from Blizzard that is the leader of the subscription-based market. The fact that the game will at some point ditch the monthly fee in order to go free to play is labeled as Certain in one of the drawers of my mind that is video game centered. It might take years but it will happen and here’s why it makes sense.

A few years ago, we would have been talking about World of Warcraft and we would have used the shorthand biggest MMO in the world. It was accurate but since then a few crucial things have changed. People can play Farmville. People can log into Dungeons & Dragons Online and play without paying, for a while at least. They will soon be able to do the same things in The Lord of the Rings Online from Turbine.

Sony got into the game with Free Realms. There are rumors that Star Wars: The Old Republic, the MMO coming from Electronic Arts and BioWare using one of the biggest licenses in the entertainment world, might also ditch subscriptions. These days, when talking about World of Warcraft, we still say the biggest MMO in the world but add the qualifier subscription based.

Blizzard is now working on Cataclysm, which will reward high level players who are already in the game and will probably draw in some of those who abandoned the MMO and some new blood. But in the long term, it’s unlikely that, as long as pay walls stay up, the game will get another huge influx of players.

The company must be content with the revenue it’s getting from more than 10 million players and recent sales for pets and rides have shown it can also make money by selling special content directly to players. This means that it could get a much wider player base by dropping the subscription fee and that it has the clout needed to sell it objects ranging from mounts to, presumably, special armor, weapons and access to certain parts of the world. Scythe Ninja 3 CPU Cooler Slashes CPU Temperatures

Lately, most of the news swarming the web has centered on the new desktops and laptops that the various PC suppliers have started to sell, or plan to. Meanwhile, it can be argued that the market for standalone components, especially those for the enthusiast and overclocking segments, has become rather dry. Scythe, apparently, is aware of this, so it has decided to turn the situation in its favor by unleashing its latest cooling solution, the Ninja 3.

The new CPU cooler that the company has developed is part of the now well-known Ninja series and, as its name implies, seeks to cut down chip temperatures without making a sound, at least not too much. Weighing a full 1,040 grams, the device makes use of M.A.P.S. technology, which is the shortened version of Multiple Airflow pass-through structure. This boosts heat dissipation significantly compared to competing products.

The heatsink itself has a nickel-plated copper base, which draws heat out of the central processing unit. Said caloric energy is subsequently led away by eight U-shaped copper heatpipes and dispersed among the many fins. Those fins are then cooled by a Slip Stream fan that has a diameter of 120mm and a rotary speed of 1340 RPM to 1900 RPM. Furthermore, the product features the Super Flip Mount Back-Plate 2. All in all, the Ninja 3 should be more adept at eliminating excess heat than any of its predecessors, even as it never goes over 37 dBA in noise output.

The Scythe Ninja 3 is slated to start shipping sometime towards the middle of July and will have a price of roughly $49, the equivalent of 35.90 Euro. Jared Smith Takes Over as the New Leader of the Fedora Project

Red Hat has just appointed a new project leader for Fedora. Jared Smith, an active member of the community with experience in similar positions at other companies, will be replacing the current leader Paul Frields. Smith will be overseeing the development of Fedora 14 which Frields has already gotten under way.

Jared Smith has been a long-time user of both Red Hat and Fedora, and has been an active participant in the the Fedora community since 2007. He has primarily spent his time working with the infrastructure and documentation teams, the official announcement reads.

He has helped with the development of Fedora Talk, our community VoIP telephony system. Fedora Talk allows various Fedora developers and contributors to communicate verbally for free across the Internet. Jared has also participated in community events such as various FUDCons and Fedora Activity Days, it added.

Its not just his involvement with Fedora that recommends him. Red Hat says Smiths previous jobs at Digium, creators of the Asterix PBX and VoIP software, and at Omniture, the analytics company acquired by Adobe, were also considered. Smith will head the development of the upcoming Fedora 14 “Laughlin” and will host the FUDCon starting July 15.

Hell be working as a full-time employee of Red Hat, which sponsors the Fedora project. Paul Frields, which oversaw the development of Fedora 9 through 13, will start working internally with the company at Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

Red Hat uses the community-driven project to spearhead new technologies and test new implementations that later includes in the professional or enterprise editions of Red Hat Linux. Red Hat is the biggest commercial developer of Linux and is a close to $1 billion business. It makes money selling support and services for its RHEL releases which are popular on the enterprise front. It uses some of that money to fund the development of Fedora. However, Fedora is still an independent and community-driven project.

One of the services Canadian mobile phone maker Research in Motion has been long rumored to be working on was the BlackBerry Shield, some sort of a security solution for the users of BlackBerry devices, which has been recently uncovered courtesy of a series of leaked screenshots. There are still a great deal of details that are unknown about the service, but it seems that it is about to enter the testing stage in the near future, and that it might not be too long before it would be launched publicly.

The new BlackBerry Shield includes the possibility of tracking the GPS location of a certain BlackBerry smartphone, to perform wireless backups of the device, to remotely wipe it, and more features. The screenshots brought to the Internet by bbnews.pl are meant to show not only that the service exists, but also some of its main features. Both the web and the device interface can be previewed in the leaked screenshots, it seems.

Some of the actions that would be possible when using the service include the option to make the BlackBerry device ring loudly even if it is on silent mode, a great feature when it comes to finding a lost device, that’s for sure. Moreover, one can set a message to appear on the handset’s screen, so that whoever finds it to provide help. Device lock and remote wiping are also included in the features list of the service.

Since the service also comes with wireless backup of the device, one can avoid accidentally wiping the handset clean. Users should be able to easily save contacts, calendars, memos, tasks and browser bookmarks into the cloud, while being able to access them whenever it’s necessary. Reportedly, BlackBerry Shield should be a free service for BIS customers when RIM decides to make it available publicly. Additional details on the matter should emerge as the release date approaches, so stay tuned for more.

IE9 Platform Preview 3 HTML5 Evolution: Canvas, Video and Audio Elements Now Supported

With the third developer preview of Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft is kicking up a notch HTML5 support. The company has been dangling the promise of supporting additional aspects of HTML5 in front of developers and early adopters already testing Internet Explorer 9 for quite some time now. Well, as of Platform Preview 3 Build 1.9.7.8.74.6000 released on June 23rd, 2010, IE9 plays nice with canvas, video and audio elements of HTML5.

The best thing about IE9s support of < video >, < canvas > and < audio >, and one of the aspects that give the successor of Internet Explorer 8 an edge when compared with rival browsers is that all the elements mentioned above are hardware accelerated. This means that IE9 will leverage the power of the graphics cards in concert with DirectX 11 in order to deliver a performance superior to that of rival browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.

But the best way for users to test the advances in IE9 Platform Preview 3 is to download the release, and to head over to the IE Test Center. Microsoft has published a range of HTML5 tests for early adopters to try out IE9, including for the canvas, video and audio elements.

Like all of the graphics in IE9, canvas is hardware accelerated through Windows and the GPU. Hardware accelerated canvas support in IE9 illustrates the power of native HTML5 in a browser. It is also important for developers to know just what exactly is supported in terms of HTML5 in IE9 Platform Preview 3. Build 1.9.7.8.74.6000 plays nice with all Canvas element APIs and the majority of Canvas 2D Context APIs and attributes. Users will be able to enjoy HTML5 video via the MP4 H.264 codec. For the time being, there is no support for WebM, but this will change in the future, provided that users have a VP8 codec installed in Windows. As far as the audio element is concerned, support has been introduced for MP3 and AAC but also the window.msPerformance API (which is a work in progress).

How to Use GoogleCL in Linux

Google introduced at the end of last week a new tool called GoogleCL. The runs from the command-line (yes, the Linux terminal), and allows users to post, create, list or delete photos from an existing Picasa account, videos from a YouTube account, edit, list or upload documents from your Google Docs account, add, delete or list events from Google Calendar or post on your Blogger weblog. These are just a few of the numerous functionalities of the new GoogleCL tool (see below for a complete list).

Many of today’s computer users, the ones accustomed with graphical user interfaces, will not endorse the use of a command-line tool. Therefore, we’ve created this tutorial to show you a few real-life examples of how useful and simple this tool can be if you employ Google services on a daily basis. Please keep in mind that you must have an existing Google account (GMail e-mail address).

First of all, we will list all the available (at the moment of writing this) functions, for each service, provided by GoogleCL:

Picasa: download (get) photos, list photos, list albums, tag photos, post photos to existing album, create new album, delete photos and delete album;
YouTube: post video, list videos, tag video and delete video;
Calendar: add event to existing calendar, list events from existing calendar, list today’s events and delete event from existing calendar;
Contacts: list contacts, list contact groups, add contacts, add contact group(s), delete contact group(s) and delete contacts;
Blogger: post content, label content, list posts from existing blog and delete post;
Docs: edit document, delete document(s), list documents, upload document and download (get) document.

How to install

If you are on a Ubuntu platform, GoogleCL is very easy to install. Just download the .deb file from here, save it on your desktop, double click it and install it. That’s it! Now you can open a terminal, type google and hit Enter. At this moment, you have Google’s most useful services at your fingertips. Just remember that when you first use GoogleCL, for each service, you need to grant access to the application. This is a one time process!

Example One – Posting a new album with 38 photos in Picasa

Editor’s note: As we said above, you must have set up a Picasa account. No existing albums or photos are required. All we did was to set a name for the account.

Let’s say we want to quickly upload a new album with 38 photos. How much will this take if one uses the standard web interface? Answer: a few good minutes. Why? Because an album must be created first, and you can ONLY upload five photos at a time. Not to mention that you must browse for each photo you want to upload and be careful not to make doubles.

With GoogleCL, the whole process took a few seconds. All we had to do was type the following command and hit Enter after it:

google picasa create –title “Softpedia Linux Test Photos” /home/marius/Pictures/Wallpapers1/*

We’ve waited for the photos to be uploaded and here is the final result…

Example Two – Replacing a video on YouTube

Editor’s note: Once again, we remind you that a YouTube account is required for this. A GMail account is all you need!

Lets say that we want to quickly delete an existing video and replace it with a new one. From the web interface, this will take some time, as we have to go to My Videos, search for the respective video and delete it. Then, we need to go through the entire video uploading process.

With GoogleCL, the whole process took about 3 seconds. All we had to do was type the following commands (one by one) and hit Enter after each:

google youtube delete –title “Softpedia_Test”
google youtube post –category Music /home/marius/Videos/Softpedia_Test.wmv

Example Three – Post an already formatted article on your blog

Lets say that we’ve written this article and now we want to post it on our blog hosted by Blogger. From a web browser, you have to login into the blog, hit the New Post button and paste the article’s text. This does not take so much of our precious time, but with GoogleCL, from the command-line, it will take a second… by executing the following command:

google blogger post /home/marius/Documents/How to Use GoogleCL in Linux.txt

Example Four – Quickly add events to your calendar!

Adding events to your Google Calendar has never been easier with GoogleCL. All you have to do is type the right command. For example:

google calendar add “Softpedia meeting today at 6pm”

adds an event for today at 6 pm

or

google calendar add “Softpedia meeting on 26 june at 8am”

will add an event for Saturday, June 26th at 8 am.

Example Five – Easily manage your Google Docs documents

Lets say you have a lot of documents in your Google Docs account. With GoogleCL, it is very easy to list the documents. For example, if you execute the following command…

google docs list title,url-direct –delimiter “: “

…it will list the documents in the terminal window, with a download link in front of them. If you click the link, you’ll get the document as a PDF file!

Google Releases Linux Tools for Its Services

This weekend, Google proudly announced GoogleCL, a set of new command-line tools for some of its popular services, such as Google Calendar, Google Docs, Blogger, YouTube and Picasa. GoogleCL will allow you to upload photos to Picasa and videos to YouTube, add Google Calendar events or contacts on Google Contacts, edit Google Docs documents or post on your Blogger blog… all straight from the Linux terminal. Well, you will say now… “Who needs this stuff? We are in mid 2010 and command-line is for geeks only.” You are right! But this is a very good opportunity for some developers to create a nice graphical user interface (GUI) for this command-line tool.

“Ever wanted to upload a folder full of photos to Picasa from a command prompt? We did, a lot, last summer. It made us want to say: google picasa create –title “My album” ~/Photos/vacation/*.jpg So we wrote a program to do that, and a whole lot more. [...] GoogleCL is a pure Python application that uses the Python gdata libraries to make Google Data API calls from the command line. [...] GoogleCL brings cloud computing to your fingertips, literally!” – was stated in the official announcement.

Over the last couple of weeks we introduced several new features to Google Docs, and made updates to Gmail, Buzz and Blogger. The Google Apps Marketplace expanded, and we brought many new businesses and schools onboard. Heres the scoop:
New Google Docs editors rolling out to everyone
Just a couple months ago we started previewing Google Docs new editors for documents and spreadsheets, and on Monday we began turning on these faster, more feature-rich editors for everyone. In new documents, youll see character-by-character real-time collaboration, a ruler for custom margins and tab stops, and the files you import from your computer will be much higher quality. The new version of spreadsheets is faster, and includes a formula editing bar, cell auto-complete and much more. If your university, employer or organization provides you with a Google Docs account, youll start seeing the new editors by default in the coming weeks, too.

New sharing settings in Google Docs
Just yesterday we launched a streamlined way to share your files more easily in Google Docs. You can set a document, spreadsheet, presentation or drawing to be Private, available to Anyone with the link, or Public on the web, and then customize who has access by inviting specific collaborators. Installation:

Download and unzip the WordPress MU package. The unzipped files will be created in a directory named “wordpressmu” followed by a version number.

Assassin’s Creed Multiplayer Beta Exclusive on the PlayStation 3

One of the many announcements made yesterday at Sony’s E3 event was that Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood would host an online beta stage only for the PlayStation 3 and that the retail version would contain exclusive single-player content only for those who bought the PS3 version of the game. A trailer detailing the mechanics of the much-vaunted multiplayer addition to the franchise was also presented during the press conference.

The trailer showed different Assassins wandering in a city dressed up in outfits made for their better blending into the crowds. They are tasked with taking one another down in a quite ingenious way. As one assassin receives his target on the game’s head’s up display, another one is tasked with killing the former. It’s easy to imagine how hectic things can get when one has to hunted and watch themselves for other hunters.

The more a player dominates a match, the harder things will get for them, as more Assassins will get them as a target. There is no fighting, the only attack possible is the assassination so that those involved in an Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer match concentrate only on scanning the surrounding environment for their enemies and targets and chasing or sneaking up on them for the finish.

Not only assassination is rewarded apparently, as one can escape their Assassin and receive just as many points as for a kill. If they hide for a few seconds in one of the famous haystacks and the enemy does not spot them, they will achieve the Escape award. Furthermore, there will be special abilities to choose from, like a sprint boost and the possibility to disguise as a different Assassin.

The game will also feature a 15-hour-long single player campaign that continues the adventures of Ezio, the protagonist from Assassin’s Creed II. It will take place in Rome, where Ezio seeks revenge against the Borgias for the murder of his uncle. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood will be launched on the 16th of November, 2010, on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.

South California was shaken by a series of little quakes following a stronger earthquake on June 14, 2010. So far no damages or injured have been reported as a result of the 5.7 magnitude quake. The earthquake was centered 70 miles east of San Diego at around 9:30 pm. Two dozen quakes were reported after it. The big news for Microsoft at E3 is Project Natal, now officially called Kinect. But rumors of a slim version of the Xbox 360 console are still being heard, and now an advert showing an image of the new machine has appeared.

The ad was shown on the Italian gaming website console-tribe.com, but was quickly pulled down. The slim version of the console is said to include WiFi as standard, have a 250GB hard drive, and be compatible with Kinect.

With Microsofts E3 conference happening later today we dont have long to wait to find out if this is real.

Who really discovered America? If you think the earliest Americans were Christopher Columbus and his crew, or even the Native Americans they met here, youd be off by thousands of years. The debate over just how many yearsand how people lived after arriving hereis one of the most important in ancient U.S. history. The hunt for the American Adam, says David Meltzer, a professor of prehistory at Southern Methodist University, is a search for insight into how our species adapted to a truly new world.

For much of the last century, scientists thought the earliest Americans got here 13,000 years ago, based upon spear points and bone tools found near Clovis, N.M. It was hypothesized that they came from Asia, walking across a land corridor that existed between Siberia and Alaska. After Clovis, other archaeologists thought theyd uncovered evidence of a still-earlier culture, but, ultimately, their claims always fell apart.

Then, in 2002, scrappy ex-biker turned archaeologist Dennis Jenkins of the University of Oregons Museum of Natural and Cultural History began digging in his states Paisley Caves. He and his team uncovered a few bones of extinct species of horse and camel and also fossilized excrement, or coprolites in scientific-speak. He took the samples back to his lab and forgot about them.

Four years later, Danish evolutionary biologist Eske Willerslev, an expert in ancient DNA, analyzed some coprolites he had taken from Jenkins lab for study. (Like our sweat and saliva, our excrement contains DNA.) He called Jenkins with amazing news: At least six of the samples had recognizable, intact human DNA with genetic markers linking them to ancient Native American, Siberian, and Asian peoples. Radiocarbon dating placed them at 14,300 years old, over 1000 years earlier than the Clovis find. Willerslev and Jenkins results were published in Science in 2008, and many archaeologists, even some who had defended the Clovis-first model, accepted their authenticity. However, the mainstream press fixated on the fact that the groundbreaking remains were nothing more than prehistoric human waste. So Jenkins got a nickname. Yes, he laughs, they call me Dr. Poop.

Jenkins was cautious about his finds. I know, he says, how many archaeologists thought they changed the dominant Clovis paradigm, and they failed every time. Because some critics have said the Paisley coprolites could have come from animalsaccording to Jenkins, protein tests confirm they are indeed from humanshe knows that he must find artifacts fashioned by human hands to prove he has truly discovered the earliest Americans.

Last summer, i traveled to central Oregon to see the dig for myself. Standing at the mouth of Paisley Cave #5its low, jagged roof creating the feeling of being inside a T-Rexs jawsI can see why people might have stopped there. The eight interconnected caves are the only shade, shelter, and protected elevation for miles.

The work begins before 8 a.m. every day. It is methodical, dirty, and periodically stinky. Jenkins roams among the caves, conferring with the students and volunteers who are digging down five to 10 feet. He wants the artifacts found and photographed exactly where they were undergrounda nd not in the buckets of dirt screened later.

At 9:15 one day, we hear a commotion from Cave #2a dust-caked student thinks she sees a coprolite. To prevent contamination, a sweaty student strips down to briefs and dons a white Tyvek protective suit and latex gloves. He grasps the specimen with sterile disposable forceps and gently lowers it, like a piece of plutonium, into a specimen cup.

Among the most promising finds are two rectangular, palm-size bone fragments that appear to have been worked by hand into an object with five pointed teeth on one end. Testing reveals its a bear bone, and it is carbon-dated at more than 14,000 years old. It could be the oldest directly dated human-made artifact ever found on American soilthe first tool.

But the burden of evidence is high, and Jenkins knows its hard to prove these teeth were shaped by a human and not by nature. Finding more of the same artifact could help his case. Over the summer, he also found pieces of what he thinks might be fabric, cordage, and basketry; theyre undergoing analysis.

If Jenkins findings hold, they could cause other details of early U.S. history to be rewritten. Since geologists believe that 14,000 years ago an impassable ice sheet covered northern North America, the Paisley people could have come by boat along the Pacific Coast. Also, the first Americans were thought to have mainly eaten large mammals, but the Paisley coprolites reveal that their diet included vegetables, small animals, and bison.

Jenkins and his team are digging at Paisley Caves again this summer. Look, Im not some great archaeological mind, he tells me. Im just a dirt archaeologist, a worker. I reached this point by being steady. Republic of Karelia that is celebrating 90th anniversary as an administrative unit is famous not only with its ancient legends but also with interesting archeological findings discovered in this northern area.

In the early 1900s, Europe was discussing ancient petroglyphs writings found by famous Russian poet Nikolai Gumilyov on the rocks of Karelia.

As many representatives of Russian intelligentsia, Gumilyov was interested in history and geography and enjoyed traveling. In 1904 he explored Kuzovsky archipelago on the White Sea.

He heard about Stone Book that allegedly contained information about ancient times and clues to the location of the mysterious Mu country where the ancestors of the Northern and, probably, Slavic tribes came from.

The first mentioning of Mu goes back to the 4th century BC. The texts said it was located to the West of Egyptian Kingdom and could be reached by water. The place was sad to have a sanctuary of Ra, god of the sun. Captions to pictures mentioned a huge lake where a sea path led.

There is information that Alexander of Macedon went to the land of Mu to obtain some sacred knowledge. He was headed to Pamir where Scythian tribes lived.

According to contemporary research, the Scythians were the ancestors of the ancient Aryans populating the larger part of Slavic lands at some point in time. According to one theory, the Aryans came from Africa and populated the North, another one says they originated from Siberia but had to move South because of adverse climate.

The Aryans represented a highly developed civilization. Some believe that they have built the famous Egyptian pyramids. Meanwhile pyramid-like structures can be found in middle Russia, in the Crimea, Siberia and the Urals. Researchers claim they are significantly older than Egyptian pyramids.

Nikolai Roerich also thought that mysterious land of Mu was located in the North of Russia. He once thought that the huge lake described in writings was Ladoga. The Aryans could get there by ships across the Mediterranean Sea.

The source discovered by Roerich talked about Phoebus, the Aryans leader. Phoebus (Sun in Greek) was considered a god. According to a legend he was the arch-father of all Aryans and had a gift of eternal life.

Phoebus and his supporters were looking for the entrance to Shambhala, an underground dwelling of gods where the Stone Book is kept, a compilation of spiritual wisdom of ancient people. The Aryans under Phoebuss guidance made gigantic writings on the wall continuing the texts of the Stone Book.

Some petroglyphic drawings show animals, birds, fish and hunters. Others show figures that scientists think may represent celestial bodies. There are some images of strange creatures. Researchers believe many petroglyphs represent sacred symbols linked to ancient cultures. They are yet to interpret them.

The True Extent of Ice Loss in the Arctic

It’s no longer a secret to anyone that the extent of the multi-year ice sheets in the Arctic is rapidly declining. At this point, there are several predictions as to when the North Pole will become completely clear of ice during the summer months, but none of them is too encouraging. Unlike Antarctica, which is based on ground, the Arctic is made up entirely of floating ice, and one of the main reasons why it’s melting other than global climate change is the fact that the ocean underneath is warming. But researchers say the true extent of ice loss is still unknown, AlphaGalileo reports.

Over the past couple of years, the estimates of when the ice covering the North Pole will disappear have been reducing constantly. Dr. David Barbers explained why in new conference, which took place yesterday, June 11. The expert was the leader of one of the most important research initiatives carried out under the International Polar Year (IPY) flag The Circumpolar Flaw Lead (CFL) system study. The team that conducted the investigation featured more than 370 members from 27 countries. The status of multi-year ice was the main goal of the study.

Scientists spend a lot of energy discussing the squiggly line generated for satellite data on sea ice extent. But the extent does not reflect the real condition of the sea ice. I think we are all looking forward to getting reliable data on the thickness from Cryosat. Because what really counts is the condition and thickness of the multi-year ice. Even though the extent of the ice went up, both winter maximum and summer minimum, in 2008 and 2009, the amount of multi-year ice continued to decline rapidly, he explained. The expert added that the North Pole lost over 2.5 million square kilometers of ice over the past three decades, which is the equivalent of 70,000 square kilometers per year.

Last summer we studied sea ice recovery in the Southern Beaufort Sea aboard the research vessel Amundsen. We expected to be stopped by thick multi-year ice, but the Amundsen, ice classed to make it through 1,2 meters of ice, was not stopped. We realized that the ice was rotten. We also observed that thaw pools were formed on top of the ice, gradually melting through the multi-year ice. This process left the multi-year ice as floating lumps. When the freeze started, what looked like solid ice, was really the lumps with a 5 [centimeters] thin ice layer on top. This ice was mistaken by the radar for multi-year ice, the scientist revealed at the meeting. via news softpedia

Harmonix and MTV Games have announced that on June 15, one of the best known rock vocalists in the industry, Ozzy Osbourne, will be bringing six of his songs to the Rock Band Music Store, allowing those who enjoy Rock Band on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii to download and sing them.

Ozzy Osbource, who led Black Sabbath to international success and then went on to have a good solo carrier, commented, Its great to bring my songs to Rock Band, especially material from the new album, Scream. I hope Rock Band players around the world are ready to have their living rooms invaded by me!

Ozzy Osbourne is offering three of the tracks that will be part of the new studio album, Scream, which is set to release on the same date that his tracks hit Rock Band. The new single Let Me Hear You Scream is joined by another two songs, Soul Sucker and Diggin’ Me Down. The other tracks on offer are I Don’t Wanna Stop from Black Rain, which came out in 2007, Crazy Babbies from the 1998 release No Rest for the Wicked and, No More Tears, the hit from the album with the same name that came out in 1991.

The Ozzy Osbourne Pack 01 will be available for 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 and the equivalent in real life currency on the PlayStation 3. Gamers can also get each track individually.

MTV Networks is putting on some special programs in order to celebrate the new Ozzy album and his Rock Band launches, with a dedicated show coming to VH1 on June 15, an edition of Headbangers Ball and You Rock the Deuce on MTV 2 and a segment on MTVU.

Setelah merebak video mesum yang menyeret sejumlah artis tenar, kali ini justru muncul potongan gambar berupa foto yang juga memperlihatkan adegan panas mirip sejumlah artis lainnya.

Setidaknya ada dua foto yang beredar dengan kualitas gambar yang tidak terlalu jelas. Salah satu foto tersebut memperlihatkan seorang pria, yang juga mirip vokalis yang tengah jadi perbincangan hangat di masyarakat itu, sedang melakukan hubungan layaknya pasangan suami-istri dengan seorang perempuan yang berambut agak pirang.

Sementara foto satunya memperlihatkan seorang perempuan yang mirip dengan penyanyi berinisial AK.

Sejak Rabu (9/6/2010) malam, sejumlah foto hot tersebut beredar. Diduga, foto diambil dari potongan rekaman sebuah video.

Belum diperoleh keterangan pasti mengenai keaslian dua foto tersebut. Hingga saat ini, Kompas.com belum bisa mendapatkan konfirmasi dari pihak Ariel maupun manajemennya.

Beberapa kali dihubungi, Kamis (10/6/2010) pagi, Budi Soeratman, manajer grup band Ariel cs (Peterpan), belum bersedia mengangkat telepon dari Kompas.com.

Kabar mengenai akan munculnya video susulan yang mirip dengan “Ariel” dan sejumlah perempuan sempat menjadi perbincangan hangat di sejumlah situs jejaring. Menyusul beredarnya dua video mesum mirip Ariel, Luna, dan Cut Tari, heboh beredar akan muncul video susulan yang juga melibatkan sejumlah perempuan mirip artis lainnya.

Merebaknya video-video tersebut, pihak kepolisian telah mengambil langkah cepat untuk menghentikan peredaran video itu lebih meluas. Bahkan, sejumlah sekolah melakukan razia ponsel terhadap siswanya untuk mengantisipasi peredaran video dan gambar mesum tersebut. – Kompas

RZ (15), ditangkap Kepolisian Resor (Polres) Magelang karena mencabuli delapan anak-anak, teman sepermainannya di Desa Jamus Kauman, Kecamatan Ngluwar, Kabupaten Magelang. Tiga korban diantaranya mengaku dan terbukti telah disodomi, sedangkan menyangkut lima anak lainnya, saat ini polisi masih menunggu hasil visum.

“Khusus untuk dua korban perempuan, yaitu In dan Nv, selain disodomi, mereka diduga juga telah disetubuhi karena selaput dara keduanya sobek,” ujar Kepala Polres Magelang Ajun Komisaris Besar Kif Aminanto, Selasa (1/6/2010) kemarin.

Pelaku dijerat pasal 82 Undang-undang Nomor 23 tahun 2002 tentang Perlindungan Anak, dengan ancaman hukuman minimal tiga tahun dan maksimal 15 tahun penjara.

Delapan korban yang berusia lima hingga 13 tahun tersebut terdiri dari dua anak perempuan dan enam anak laki-laki. Mereka masing-masing adalah dari Rf (5), Dw (13), In (11), Nv (12), Gl (13), Sl (11), Ah (13), dan Mr (13). Tiga yang sudah mengaku dan terbukti telah disodomi adalah Dw, Nv, dan Rf.

Kif mengatakan, kasus ini terungkap dari laporan orangtua salah satu korban, Rf (5), yang curiga melihat anaknya yang selalu mengeluh kesakitan saat buang air besar dan kecil. Setelah korban dibawa ke rumah sakit dan dari hasil pemeriksaan dokter terungkap bahwa anak itu adalah korban sodomi dari RZ, orangtua Rf pun melapor ke Kepolisian Sektor (Polsek) Ngluwar.

Dari temuan itu, polisi kemudian mencari tahu kemungkinan adanya korban-korban lain. Dari 17 teman sepermainan RZ, akhirnya diketahui ada delapan anak diantaranya mengaku pernah diperlakukan tidak senonoh.

“Dari pengakuan pelaku, perbuatan ini sudah dilakukan selama empat tahun terakhir, sejak dia masih berusia 11 tahun. Kepada masing-masing korban, pelaku mengaku melakukan perbuatan tersebut lebih dari satu kali,” ujar Kif.

Untuk mengetahui lebih dalam tentang motivasi dan kondisi psikologis pelaku, RZ telah dibawa untuk menjalani pemeriksaan oleh seorang psikolog. Hasil pemeriksaan baru bisa diketahui, Rabu (2/6/2010), hari ini.

RZ, saat ditemui di Kantor Polres Magelang, terus menangis terisak-isak. Dia mengaku melakukan hal itu karena seorang teman pernah menempel-nempelkan alat kelamin ke anusnya. “Saya hanya ingin meniru perbuatan teman saya,” ujarnya. MAGELANG, KOMPAS.com

As soon as Ubisoft had confirmed the existence of Prince of Persia Retro for iPhone OS platforms, Softpedia’s Apple news editor immediately rushed to get it from the iTunes App Store. Unfortunately, the game was nowhere to be found. Until yesterday, that is, when Jordan Mechners all time classic had finally appeared as available for download.

As the port of a two-decade-old game, Prince of Persia Retro is priced at just one buck. Anyone who owns an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and is a fan of this Apple II-original platform game is likely to download it on the spot, just like I did. I decided to put everything else aside as soon as my first-gen iPhone finished syncing and give the game a spin, curious to see just how Ubisoft managed to implement the controls. Minutes into the game, I realized Prince of Persia Retro, with all its classic beauty, and still-attractive gameplay, didnt belong on a touch-based platform. Simply put, you need buttons to play this game.

Jaffar and his sword-wielding minions are not your worst enemies, your fingers are! As fans of the game should know, Prince of Persia happens all over the screen, not just at the center. Theres stuff you need to look out for in every corner of every room (granted, only towards the end of the game).

Since your thumbs are constantly touching the bottom side of the screen (at times even covering the young prince), youre likely to miss out on a potion or two. Moreover, since the action button is everywhere, youre likely to accidentally put your sword back in the sheath in the middle of a duel. Not cool, considering the three-strikes-youre-out system imposed by Mechner back in 89.

FIFA World eyes South Africa 2010

There is no mistaking the main topic of discussion in the latest issue of FIFA World as our special June/July double issue concentrates solely on the global footballing extravaganza that is the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Download Opera 10.60 Alpha 1, Better Performance, New UI

An early development snapshot of the next version of Opera is now available for download. Opera Software has just launched the first Alpha Build for Opera 10.60, the successor of Opera 10.50, which was finalized and released to testers earlier this year. The promise from the Norway-based browser vendor is that users will be able to take advantage of better performance and an evolved graphical user interface with the advent of Opera 10.60.

We are now preparing for a 10.60 release, which we aim to synchronize across all desktop platforms. This alpha will give you noticeable gains in performance, an improved user interface (UI), and lots of bug fixes, a member of the Opera Desktop team revealed.

Opera Software has tweaked the core of the browser, and promised that it would manage to offer even more horsepower with Opera 10.60. The browsers performance has been optimized, and early adopters will be able to see speed improvements in terms of the JavaScript engine, but also related to DOM and CSS.

In addition to the visual tweaks you have seen already, such as the Speed Dial facelift, we have also been making further UI enhancements. You will notice that the O menu button now says Menu for easy discovery, and instead of hard to read thumbnails for internal tabs, we have replaced them with icons. The tab hover previews have also received a facelift, the Opera Desktop team representative added.

One important change to the Opera 10.60 UI will impact users of Windows 7. Opera Software disabled the taskbar previews in Windows 7 by default with Opera 10.60. According to the browser maker, end users have been complaining about the difficulty to navigate taskbar previews in Windows when a large number of tabs are opened in the browser. However, the feature has only been disabled and not killed off. Users can easily enable Windows 7 Taskbar Previews for Opera 10.60 from the Tabs sections of the Preferences dialog.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. There is also evidence that organized women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, “Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication “To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead” (Source: Duke University’s Historic American Sheet Music, 1850-1920). While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860’s tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, each contributed honorably to the growing movement that culminated in Gen Logan giving his official proclamation in 1868. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 – 363) to ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays), though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead: January 19 in Texas, April 26 in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi; May 10 in South Carolina; and June 3 (Jefferson Davis’ birthday) in Louisiana and Tennessee. In 1915, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” Moina Michael replied with her own poem: We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies. She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one, and sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was visiting the United States and learned of this new custom started by Ms.Michael and when she returned to France, made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children’s League sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam Guerin approached the VFW for help. Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans’ organization to nationally sell poppies. Two years later their “Buddy” Poppy program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans. In 1948 the US Post Office honored Ms Michael for her role in founding the National Poppy movement by issuing a red 3 cent postage stamp with her likeness on it. On January 19, 1999 Senator Inouye introduced bill S 189 to the Senate which proposes to restore the traditional day of observance of Memorial Day back to May 30th instead of “the last Monday in May”. On April 19, 1999 Representative Gibbons introduced the bill to the House (H.R. 1474).
