The Salmon Creek Artwalk is one of my favorites....as local and guest artists open their studios in Salmon Creek (just a mile north of Bodega Bay) to highlight a variety of art including sculpture, painting, wearable art, photography, stained glass, and copper.

The Salmon Creek Artwalk was established in 2001 and has become an anticipated Sonoma Coast art event. Take this opportunity to enjoy the artists work, and stroll through the unique town of Salmon Creek, and enjoy the Salmon Creek beach as well!

Enjoy!

It's like an upscale saloon, and always a good time. Their food is both delicious and diverse....with (of course) oysters, clams and seafood playing a starring role, but they also have wonderful ribs, pulled pork, and jalapeno cornbread (not to be missed). I love living in Sonoma County....the food is just so delicious and diverse! Enjoy!

ARTrails is an annual fall tradition in the North Bay. This juried program is not just Sonoma County's largest and most visible arts event, but also one of the oldest and most respected of its kind in the nation. Stop into our studios and see why!

ARTrails provides a rare opportunity for the public to meet local artists in their workspaces, view original art, and learn firsthand about their diverse creative processes and techniques.

Through hands-on demonstrations as well as intimate conversations, ARTrails artists will take you into their world, where colors, shapes, materials, and textures merge into unique and collectible works of art.
I know I've written about the White Pelicans here a lot....and with good reason, they're so unique and beautiful to watch. I put together a collage of photos that I took and made a video to show you some of my best shots. I love watching them, they're "dunkers" not divers like the brown pelicans. They glide swiftly across the water, and travel in large flocks, though they separate out to feed in smaller groups of 2-3. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and come see them for yourself!
Here's a picture from the south end of the beach, it's at a medium tide so we couldn't walk into the rocks. At lower tides it's fun to explore all the nooks and crannies. But either way, it's always beautiful. There are 2 miles of flat beach in a horseshoe shape. It's very popular because it's easy to access for surfers, kayakers, kiteflyers, horseback riding, walking, jogging, or just beachcombing.

Bodega Head is just a 5 minute drive from "At the Bay's Edge" and is named for the the rocky headland that forms the entrance into Bodega Harbor. The jetty along the harbour side is very popular for crabbing and clamming, and the ocean side is very popular for hiking and biking. It's also a fun place to just enjoy the truly spectacular blufftop views. It's a popular spot for watching the sunset, as well as the gray whales.
This is a common sight in front of "At the Bay's Edge", the fishing boats must pass in front of the house to drop off their catch at the Tides and Lucas Wharf. It's always fun to see the variety of boats coming and going.

For those that want to go out fishing for the day, Wil's Fishing is just minutes from the house. Many guests stay here just as a launching pad for their fishing trips.
Christo and Jean-Claude will be on-hand to celebrate The 'Running Fence at 33'. A reception is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 2pm to 5pm. Bloomfield Park, 6700 Bloomfield Road, Bloomfield. Free. For details, contact the Sonoma County Museum, 707.579.1500.

The Running Fence was monumental in all regards at the time – comprised of white fabric curtain twenty-four and one-half miles long and eighteen feet high that linked Cotati at Highway 101 to the Pacific Ocean in Bodega Bay. Few stories are more inspirational in the artworld that that of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s struggle to persuade Sonoma and Marin County locals to proceed with this grand project which began in 1972 and was completed on September 10, 1976. It took forty-two months of collaborative effort, two-hundred and forty thousand yards (over two million square feet) of heavy woven white nylon fabric, ninety miles of steel cable, two thousand and fifty poles embedded three feet into the ground, and fourteen thousand earth anchors. The de-installation began two weeks after the fence was completed, and all materials were removed entirely from the site and given to local ranchers.

Christo, at the time, described the project as “a celebration of the landscape” and indeed it was perhaps the first large-scale art project focusing on the natural beauty of rural northern California landscape, a route has since become a famous tourist destination. It will be a pleasure to welcome back the couple that introduced our unique landscape to the world.

Well, this is my second post this week on sunsets....we're enjoying a wonderfully warm and clear September to date and the sunsets have been spectacular.

I went out to Bodega Head tonight, which is just 5 minutes from Bodega Bay. It's a very dramatic point at the ocean and is wonderful for sunset watching, closing out the day. In fact, I ran into several people I knew, it was great fun!

Anyway, here's a video to enjoy. And make sure you include a trip to Bodega Head as part of your Bodega Bay Vacation (there's also hiking and biking trails, so it's quite diverse, as well as dramatic!).
