BlackBerry Storm2 5.0 Themes Available Free

As we now have access to the new BlackBerry Themes Studio 5 (Was Plazmic Theme Builder).

Needing to block unwanted calls that can flood your poor blackberry? Well me too!lol

But I’ve only found one free app that is suppose to do that function! That in itself is very surprising to me, when some of the “old” cell phones had a version of that simple function built in!

The only free App that I could find is “Call blocker”, and I frankly it hasn’t been working nearly as well as you would expect from the name! I found that your phone will ring depending on the delay you set it for, and doesn’t seem to work reliably even then.

Now maybe it’s something I’m doing wrong, and the app isn’t at fault for the unblocked calls that seem to keep getting through! But if so I haven’t figured out how I’ve messed up.

There are premium Apps out there that are suppose to be much better, like “black and white list” app. I can’t vouch for these premium apps myself, not having been able to try them. But I would recommend trying one of them if you can afford to purchase an app, rather than settling for the “Call blocker” app. I found two premium apps at http://www.mobihand.com/blackberrythemes/homeSoftware.asp that sounded promising, in case you wished to check them out! One was the “Black and white list” app and the other was called “Call Filter” I believe.

Well I hope you’ll find this info usefull, and if I find any other free call blocking apps I let you know!lol

RIM did a brilliant job of sneaking this subtle one liner into their press release to see if we were actually reading them.

RIM also announced today that themes for BlackBerry smartphones can now be submitted to BlackBerry App World.

They have also announced their new BlackBerry Theme Studio for easy theme design, illustration and animation. This will also add support for the Storm2 and Bold 9700.

New themes will be built with two tools just like the original Plazmic builders:

• BlackBerry Theme Builder – a design tool for customizing a smartphone’s user interface, including the home screen layout, fonts, icons, message list colors, cursors, dialog boxes and home screen application icons.
• BlackBerry Composer – an illustration and animation tool for creating animated SVG graphics that can be used to add animation to theme buttons and backgrounds as well as animate web sites and applications for BlackBerry smartphones.

The new BlackBerry Theme Studio replaces the Plazmic CDK and will add the ability to import Photoshop files into the theme builder along with adding transitions like zooming, sliding, wiping, and fading within themes.

We mentioned Aloqa a bit back when it was in beta but it was limited to the Curve 8900 and Bold 9000. Now the app is out of Beta and is available for a broader range of devices including the Tour, 83XX series, 88XX series, 87XX series, and 8520. The app is now also feeding you information in the US, Canada, & Austria.

Aloqa supposedly lets you find interesting places, events, & friends near you. I am not sure exactly how it pulls that off but supposedly they are fed information from Facebook Connect, Yelp, Eventful, last.fm, Wikipedia, Craigslist, Topix, Fon, Coulomb Technologies, GreatDad, Google Maps API, Qype, Call-A-Bike, Nestoria, and BeLocal.

The guys over at BBOS found out that Pandora for BlackBerry has been updated with support for the recently released OS 5.0.

“Good news – we just put up the new Pandora 1.1.2 update for 5.0 operating systems including Storm 9530 on 5.0 and the new Storm 9550. Other non-5.0 devices will have to wait a few days before it will be available while we finish testing, however most of the changes in 1.1.2 are to support the 5.0 OS.”
