Stocks started the week with a bang, registering a major distribution day on Monday and modest follow through to the downside on Tuesday. This has brought some of the short term indicators to oversold readings for stocks. While the action so far this week has been painful for the bulls, the S and P is coming close to a Golden Cross of the 50 and 200 day sma's. If we can bounce back a bit this week, we may see this cross soon. The S and P 500, which surged 40 percent from a 12-year low in March through last week, lost 1.3 percent to 911.97. The index slid 2.4 percent yesterday, the largest since May 13. The DJIA fell 107.46 points, or 1.3 percent, to 8,504.67. Your biggest gainers were STEC, UBD, STRA, EDV, DJCO, VXX, DDRX, and MGA, while the biggest decliners included MTXX, RTP, FSLR, HCH, ISRL, CEO, NWLI, and NVR. Outlined below are todays technical indicators. MACD buy signals: TESO, SHV, ALXA, MBB, EVII, AGG, MDOR, BND. MACD sell signals: AMZN, MON, SHLD, GWW, NTRS, XOM, QCOM, RE.

U.S. stocks put in an uninspiring rally for the first time in three sessions as technology stocks spurred gains in the nasdaq index. The dollar fell against the euro as gold, oil and Treasury notes put in gains. The Standard and Poors 500 Index added 0.4 percent to end at 942.43. Bulls would have liked to see this close above 944 on heavier volume which is what makes today uninspiring. The Dow slipped 1.43 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 8,763.06. Your biggest gainers were STRA, NVR, BIDU, BLK, ISRG, RTP, SCHN, and WBD, while the biggest decliners included CRDN, ALX, GOOG, MKL, PHII, WTM, ISRL, and BTH. MACD buy signals: RRGB, SHW, HEES, UPS, CNXT, LNN, GSIG, CVS. MACD sell signals: MNRO, BEC, BCPC, CHA, GETI, CEC, ALNY, COO. Stochastic Oversold: FBAK, FXS, ISHG, CSJ, NESW, PKX, PLCE, FXA. Stochastic Overbought: BHRB, JEM, SLGN, AWR, NATH, WRB, NGSX, ZNT. Stocks making 52wk highs included: GMCR, TYH, SAFM, URS, CYOU, ADY, NRGP, CWB.
Stocks mainly had a consolidation day today - for the hyper active traders out there, red bull was required to keep you awake. It is certainly encouraging that stocks were able to digest the big gains of yesterday without any meaningful selloff. The blue chip Dow Jones Industrial average closed up 0.2 percent, or 19 points, while the broader Standard and Poors 500 was up 0.2 percent, or 2 points. The tech heavy Nasdaq was up 0.4 percent, or 8 points. Your biggest gainers were ISRG, NVR, STRA, ICE, ESGR, NTG, SHLD, and RTP, while the biggest decliners included BIDU, WPO, FSLR, HES, FBSS, MA, CART, and GNI.
Outlined below are todays technical indicators. MACD buy signals: ALGT, MLM, GILD, ENR, BANF, FRT, ORLY, SF. MACD sell signals: NEWS, BIL, PCBI, SMG, CABN, LRN, SFRX. Stochastic Oversold: NUBK, MJF, AMNB, RBA, CXSP, PZA, MAIN, FJA. Stochastic Overbought: WLIC, PCG, BDDD, AEP, NTRS, SZR, PNRA, PBI. Stocks making 52wk highs included: ISHG, TYH, IGOV, NPK, GOLD, VSS, COKE, and MWJ. Many breadth indicators are heavily overbought at this time - but the market still has the potential to go higher still, especially if the recent breakout in the Nasdaq holds.

Outlined below are todays technical indicators. MACD buy signals: FFIN, GHL, BWLD, RE, FAST, CVX, PCAR, CLX. MACD sell signals: OSIP, FXY, THLD, TRA, CRIS, JMBA. Stochastic Oversold: STRA, FXM, AVCT, TGT, FBSS, PRU, GSLA, IR. Stochastic Overbought: PBTQ, NIB, OPTR, PNW, NVDA, PVI, PBCI, PBI.
The 50 day simple moving average has now crossed above the 100 day simple moving average on the SPY. This is the first time this has happened since the reverse bear cross back in July of 08. This is an interesting development and if SPX holds 875 from here forward - it's time to kiss those double and triple inverse ETF's to the curb. SPY

Finally it looks like the time has come for the market to take some much needed rest after this massive rally we have witnessed for the past 9 weeks. Many stocks are very extended and at this time we have moved to 90% cash and are waiting for new bases to build. Aggressive traders can look for opportunities to get short on some of the stocks that are looking most vulnerable. If we can see SPY get some support around the 85 area, long positions may look prudent again. Watching for now.
