Songs of Praise

Have you tried worshipping God with a heavy heart? It's next to impossible. How can you worship Him when your heart and head is troubled? How can you sing praises to him if your thoughts are somewhere else?

Stop, relax and then breathe,focus your thought to what is important, then pray. Ask the Lord to help you worship Him. Whatever problem you are experiencing bring it to the Lord, put your faith in Him and believe that everything will turn out according to His wonderful plan. You have to know that your God is bigger than any problem that you will encounter. Ask also for forgiveness if you believe that your relationship is strained because of a fault that you have done, ask it sincerely and He will accept it and forget about it.

There is nothing better in this world than being able to worship the Lord with all your heart, body and spirit. We are designed to worship Him and to praise Him.

Isaiah 12:1-6
1 You will say in that day: "I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.
2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Let us be optimistic, be hopeful that something good will come out of our pains today. I've done my fair share of faults in my life, and I'm thinking because of those wrong things I've done I might be suffering now the consequences, but what I need is only to endure it because God will not give me something I can not bear. Because as the addage saysthere's a rainbow after the storm (Noah could attest to that).

Do not live in your past "glory days" -It is not bad to look at the past for inspiration, to look back for fond memories but living in it is not helpful, it prevents us in looking forward, in striving to have a better future. Past achievements inspires us, past mistakes educates us, these are tools for us to use in moving ahead. We have to believe that the future has something greater to offer.

The Lord always has wonderful plans for our lives, all we have to do is claim it, and place our trust in Him. Even though at times it seems that we are stuck in a corner but have faith that our God do miracles. Have faith on His love for us, and that he will never leave us nor forsake us. Let us be thankful for whatever happens to us or whatever situation we find ourselves in, because from the start God has already foreseen it.

Isaiah 11:1-16

1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

12 He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

13 The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.

14 But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west, and together they shall plunder the people of the east. They shall put out their hand against Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them.

15 And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt, and will wave his hand over the River with his scorching breath, and strike it into seven channels, and he will lead people across in sandals.

16 And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.

The Remnant of Israel

It is usually at those times in the lowest ebbs of our lives do we call upon the Lord. When we have exhausted all the means we know, all the resources we had, only during this time is when we ask for God's help. God should not be our last resort, He should be a part of our every action and of our every decision.

That's why I admire this cousin of mine, that in every aspect and facet of his life he includes the Lord. When he watches TV, when he shoot every ball in the basket, when he feeds the dog, when he start and ends a conversation, God is a part of it all. I don't think its overdoing it, if my God is Omnipotent(all powerful), then I don't think He'd mind if I include him in everything I do. There's no such thing as trivial to Him. It's better to stay always in His presence, than to be there only when you have problems.

Isaiah 10:20-34

20 In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.

God's Judgement on Assyria

Has God struck you down because of your pride? I am not sure if pride itself is wrong? Maybe it's like everything else, too much of it is bad for you but a little of it might just be ok. Because having no pride at all, will cause you no self-esteem, you become a rag doll that everyone would kick around. Maybe your pride comes in knowing that you are a servant of the Lord. The problem with pride is the more you succeed the more you account it in your own capabilities and forget that it is God who had provided you with those abilities. We have to remember that without God we are nothing.

So check our hearts often, I know it's nice to hear when people praise you but learn to keep your head straight and acknowledge that it is through God you were able to do what you are able to do.

Isaiah 10:5-19

5 Ah, Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury!

6 Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

7 But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few;

8 for he says: "Are not my commanders all kings?

15 Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!

16 Therefore the Lord GOD of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors, and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire.

17 The light of Israel will become a fire, and his Holy One a flame, and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day.

"We were pressured to join."He's not alone. In the Philippines, teenage membership in urban gangs has surged to an estimated 130,000 in the past 10 years, according to the Preda Foundation, a local human rights charity."I thought I'd get stuck in that situation and that my life would never improve," recalls Fajardo. "I would probably be in jail right now, most likely a drug addict -- if I hadn't met Efren."Efren Peñaflorida, 28, also was bullied by gangsin high school. ABOUT EFREN'S DYNAMIC TEEN COMPANY

Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) is a group of concerned young people with a mission of making a small yet significant difference in other people’s lives, particularly the small children in slum areas who have no access to education, basic hygiene and sometimes, even love from their families. The group was founded in August 1997 by four teenagers from Cavite National High School. The initial group made up of around 20 members started as a friendship club which aimed to divert the attention of students from joining violent gangs and notorious fraternities that were thriving on the campus. Their major platform then was to cater youth awareness projects, talent and self development activities, and community services. Today, the group holds different activities to address these issues.

A DECENT PROPOSAL

Have you received any emails that says you've won ridiculously large amount of money. There are times that I wish they were true, sadly no luck. I've replied to some of them, but they always ask that I send them some money first before they could release my prize. I ask if they could send my prize ahead then gladly pay them half of my winning money... crickets... no reply.

I'm thinking what if I could make those true, just randomly giving out money thru the internet, will somebody believe me? I'm not saying that I'm doing it now because that would just be ridiculous on my part, because I can not give what I do not have. Though someday I might, if this earning online does pay-off, I might just give back to the community who made it happen. I'm not saying that I'll give off millions, again that would just be ridiculous, but a $100 now and then wouldn't hurt right. Everywhere there is a Western Union, all I need is your name and location then you can receive it, no need to look for me again, no need to contact me again, that's it. Just post your name and contact information in any of my post's comment box, then who knows I might make good this proposition. No promises yet... I have to earn first before I could share any blessings.

Dear Centralians and Friends,

Greetings from the Chaplain’s Office!

Our reflection for this week comes from Nehemiah 2:11-20.

This is the story of Nehemiah who traveled from Persia to Jerusalem with the mission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

“Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire.” This was the situation of Jerusalem after the Babylonian Captivity.

Before Nehemiah started his work, he inspected and experienced first hand the situation of Jerusalem. While others were sleeping, he went around investigating the needed repairs. He also prayed and listened to God.

If we survey our national situation now, we can also find that we are in crisis. Morgan Stanley, a respected financial institution reported that the money lost in graft and corruption in the Philippines from 1965 to 2001 amounts to $204 billion or about P12 trillion. Last 2004, Teodoro Benigno reported that we lose P230 billion each year to government graft and corruption. Transparency International reported that we are the 3rd most corrupt country in Asia and number 11 in the world on 2004. Last January 2005, we got a higher rating. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Standard and Poor agency reported that the Philippines was the number 2 most corrupt country in the whole world, second only to Bangladesh. With that kind of development, Philippine Inquirer reported that our country became the number 1 most corrupt country last 2007. A week ago, Sen. Jovito Salonga recently filed an impeachment case against the head of the ombudsman office.

Nehemiah explained to the people the situation, and then inspired them to do their part. He organized the people and gave them hope. An acrostic of HOPE developed by Nestor Bunda says, “Help Organize People Everywhere.” Like Nehemiah, it is our duty to make the people aware on what is happening around us, and what kind of reforms is needed.

The people that worked with Nehemiah were not particularly gifted for construction work. There were no architects, engineers, or city planners. Those involved were the high priest and priests, goldsmiths and perfume-makers, rulers and their daughters, temple servants and merchants. God gave them success, and the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt.

The message of Nehemiah for us is: “Let us rise up and build.” Are you willing to join in the effort of rebuilding our nation?

The Lord's Anger Against Israel

I'm thinking of a moment in my life when I felt God was angry with me. I can't really think of such a moment, I've never really seen my God as an angry God, He was always compassionate, He was a friend, and the nearest to anger I think that He'd feel about me I guess was disappointed. And in this time of disapppointment I would feel His presence far from me. Though the truth will be, me far from Him and not the other way around.

I perceived Him as a God who teach us lessons, when all things seems to go wrong, It's just God getting our attention letting us know that we could ask help from Him. When we are feeling(like me right now with this stubborn cold) It's just Him letting us know that we could come to Him and ask for healing and strength(I guess that's Him being jealous, He always wants our attention - the more we forget the stronger the volume of His voice). So, in every moment and aspect of our lives we should consider God, ask for His guidance because of all this He knows, and again He has wonderful plans for us. All we really need is to trust in Him.

Isaiah 9:8-10:4

8 The Lord has sent a word against Jacob, and it will fall on Israel;

9 and all the people will know, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:

10 "The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place."

11 But the LORD raises the adversaries of Rezin against him, and stirs up his enemies.

12 The Syrians on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

13 The people did not turn to him who struck them, nor inquire of the LORD of hosts.

14 So the LORD cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day--

15 the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

16 for those who guide this people have been leading them astray, and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.

17 Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is godless and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

18 For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.

19 Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another.

20 They slice meat on the right, but are still hungry, and they devour on the left, but are not satisfied; each devours the flesh of his own arm,

21 Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim devours Manasseh; together they are against Judah. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

1 Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression,

2 to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

3 What will you do on the day of punishment, in the ruin that will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth?

4 Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.
