Some of the oral antibiotics that are taken for this type of acne are tetracycline, cotrimoxasole, ethrythromycin, and doxycycline. Antihistmines taken orally are used to decrease histamine response on the skin which will decrease any inflammation and prevent scalp breakouts.

You don’t hear about scalp acne as often as you hear about face or back acne. It is actually more common than you may think, but it is not as noticeable in people because it happens where hair normally covers the marks. It is important to treat scalp acne so that you can avoid scarring.

Several of my friends have had a glycolic acid peel, so I’ve talked to them to find out a bit more about what I’m getting myself into. Basically, a glycolic acid peel is one of the gentlest chemical peels available on an over-the-counter basis, making it a highly affordable beauty option for people hoping to improve their appearance. Some widely reported benefits include smoother skin, tighter pores, and even a reduction in acne — all of which can combine to make you look younger and healthier.

All of these positive results sounded fantastic to me, but I was still worried about potential side effects because I have rather sensitive skin to begin with. My friends assured me that these types of products contain only natural ingredients, so the worst that could happen by using a glycolic acid peel would be a bit or redness or irritation for a short time following application. After weighing this slight risk against the benefits, I decided this was something I could live with, so I’m still planning to move full speed ahead.

There are lots of different glycolic acid peel products to choose from, so the best approach to choosing one would be to stick with a brand name that I’m familiar with or to buy a product that comes highly recommended from consumers. These peels often cost $50 or more each, with most users reporting that they need several applications in order to start seeing the glowing skin they’re after. At those prices, I’m probably going to buy all my glycolic acid peel products online from a discount beauty supply store in order to save some cash. Fortunately, I know of several terrific websites that carry this stuff at reasonable rates.

Anyway, I’m anxious to try my first glycolic acid peel to see if it’s as effective as everyone makes it out to be. Even though my skin isn’t exactly terrible at this point, there’s no sense in waiting until there’s a major problem to address. While you probably wash your face at least once a day, you should actually wash morning and evening. Plus, there is a right and wrong way to do this simple 5-minute task. Just wetting your face, sudsing up and rinsing won’t get your skin truly clean and ward off blemishes. Here’s how to do the job right in 5 minutes, tops.

Start with wetting the washcloth with water that’s pleasantly warm to hot. Wring the excess water out and hold the washcloth over your face for just 2-3 minutes, replenishing the water as it cools. This opens the pores, where dirt and oils have lodged inside. Wash your face thoroughly with a mild soap.

Oatmeal soap is good for those with oily skin, while a lavender, glycerine or hypoallergenic soap is good for sensitive or dry skin. Rub the soap in with your fingers with a gentle circular motion, avoiding the areas immediately around your eyes. This skin is very delicate and by soaping there you can easily stretch this skin, leading to baggy or wrinkled skin later.

Rinse the skin well to remove all traces of soap. This is most easily done with a sopping wet washcloth with warm water, holding your face over the sink to catch the drips. Three rinsings should do it. Now soak the washcloth with cool water, squeeze it out and hold over your face for just 30 seconds or so. You’ve completed the correct process of a face wash.

All that’s left is to protect the pores from invasions of dirt and oil during the course of the day. Use witch hazel, or if you prefer, a commercial cosmetic astringent to close the pores of your skin. For oily skin, you can leave it at that. For dry skin, follow up with a day cream formulated for the face.

Now for the diet factor. If you follow the correct face washing procedure to the letter, but eat poorly, you’re still in an uphill battle. A good looking complexion also is dependent on the right nutrients to ensure good cell strength and regeneration. The most important of these vitamins and minerals include vitamins A, C, E and zinc. Where do you find these nutrients in abundance? You’ve probably guessed. Fruits and veggies. Produce also provides an abundance of fiber and antioxidant properties, which are best known as cancer fighting agents, in that they prevent free radical damage.

Combine a good face wash with a healthy diet and you’ll improve your health and complexion dramatically. Just a few months of this regime and you’ll have a nice, clear complexion, with a radiant appearance.
