We're a non-profit accelerator in Toronto that works exclusively with international startups.

Newcomer Entrepreneur Accelerator (NEA) Program

The Newcomer Entrepreneur Accelerator Program is a 6-month program partially supported by funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). This program is designed to help promising Canadian technology companies founded by newcomers to grow and scale.

Who you are

Canadian technology-based company engaged in the development of intellectual property for their product.

Have demonstrated traction, either through sales, prior investments and grants, or user growth, contingent on the industry.

Minimum 50% of the company owned by new Canadian citizen(s) or permanent resident(s)
Fewer than 500 employees

Trade Accelerator Program to be hosted Monday at Scarborough Civic Centre

In partnership with the World Trade Centre Toronto and Toronto Region Board of Trade, the City of Toronto will be hosting the first in-person session of the next cohort of the Trade Accelerator Program (TAP) at Scarborough Civic Centre. This cohort of the six-week TAP program will be multi-sector and will benefit companies who are new to exporting and are interested to create a strategy guided by experts. Quebec stops Scam College Backdoors to Immigration

Yes Polly Anna there are scam career colleges that abuse education, immigration and labour laws to extract huge amounts of money from internationals.

Quebec is protecting their taxpayers, their workforce and the integrity of their education system by closing these backdoors.

The scam career colleges degrade the value of both Quebec's and Canada's education reputation. Since taxpayers pay billions each year to educate Canadians they have to protect the tax dollars and the value of taxpayer investment into Canadians.

This small group of self-serving criminals are out there eroding the value of Canada using garbage, self manufactured textbooks, unproven training programs and unqualified trainers. Many of these scam colleges do not have adequate attendance, administration, teaching or placement programs.

You must ask yourself why would someone pay $10,000 or 15,000 for a textbook with 50 mistakes on each page, and unqualified staff.

Some agents actually promise a hacked school computer system where the students just give themselves 90% on tests and 100% attendance, The ability to work "full time" because of the hacked computer system. The fake marks can get "students" into a better school or a job after "graduation" and presto after 4 years apply for immigration.

The damage these scam colleges cause are widespread. The scam college textbooks with 50 mistakes on each page have been used by agents to show international students that education is terrible in Canada - and students should go anywhere but Canada.

These garbage self-manufactured textbooks alone have cost Canada millions of dollars.

The career colleges have been lobbying for years to secure their "free intern" programs - we can blame a large % of Canadian youth unemployment on jobs taken by free interns that eliminate the ability of Canadian youth to get work experience or any chance of earning a salary as an intern.

The scam career colleges are promoting a type of slavery and destroying parts of the labour market.

At the end of your studies, if you wish to work in Québec, you can submit an application for a post-graduation work permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Your post-graduation work permit is valid for up to the same length as your study program. It allows you to work for any eligible employer in Canada.

On June 7, 2022, changes were made to the eligibility conditions for post-graduation work permits for international students enrolled in certain study programs and educational institutions in Québec.

Visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website to know which programs and institutions give access to this type of work permit.

PCC's and Career Colleges Beware of Post Pandemic Predators

What happened to @#$%&* College

@#$%&* College started as a nice little Canadian career college.

According to Stats Canada in 2006, 87% of 25- to 29-year-olds graduated from high school and both colleges and universities together graduated about 54 % of the population.

The real natural market for Canadian Private Career Colleges (PCC's), counting all the dropouts and career changers as well as those training to re-entering the job market, is 11.5 % of the population.

Canada consistently ranks in the top 8% of multicultural public education systems in the world. The USA ranks in the bottom 30% in the world scale of public education and with a college grad level of about 31%.

Some estimates that up to 38% of the USA population need PCC training to enter many of the job markets.

Many big flashy USA based education investors look at general demographics and make the mistake of thinking WOW in Canada only 1.5 % of the student population goes to PCCs - we can make a killing with a PCC up in Canada.

If you add some USA based accelerated tax benefits + perception of an untapped market you will have some investors rush or get pushed in.

When a big flashy USA mutual fund waves 10 Million in front of the smaller Canadian PCC operators and says can you spend all the money expanding as quickly as possible ? You know the PCC's will say yes without reading all the fine print.

The fine print says if you do not meet targets - we will take over - what else is not in the weaponized fine print - we will pay ourselves huge fees - we will run the school for our benefit not anyone else.

@#$%&* was operated the USA way - wild spending to obtain initial tax credits - USA sales targets not met - the takeover - huge management fees to mutual fund manager - wild cost cutting to punish @#$%&* students, staff and minority investors.

We do not have access to all the accounting but it looks like the mutual fund investors lost the initial 10 million dollar private equity investment. The mutual fund management company paid themselves huge fees to make the investment - take over the company - run the company into the ground then when it was dead with no cash or cash flow tried to sell it failed to sell at any price and finally just gave it back to the original minority investors - who by this time had over 5 years of no revenue and suffered a complete loss.

The @#$%&* had hundreds of complaints on social media by students, staff, teachers and creditors. The @#$%&* was stripped of student government tuition funding OSAP - this is a huge loss. @#$%&* was famous for having 2 SRO Career Regulators suing to stop prep classes at @#$%&* as all recent students failed and were inadequately prepared with knowledge or skills to perform in those careers.

@#$%&* was like a victim of the Russian scorched earth policy when retreating from the Nazis in WW2.

If you're counting:

-all private equity investors down about 15 million in total,

-students wasted 1,500 hours and about 25 million and

-the Ontario government lost deadbeat college loans of about 18 million.

-USA Private Mutual Management Company "earned" about 11.5 million.

In the next article we will explain what else the mutual fund management company did to make money.

The big flashy USA mutual fund has waved 10 Million to another small PCC - told them to expand - you just have to get these easy registration numbers - whoops they just took over !!!

I am sure that you can understand why the warnings should go out about this criminal organization.

Another reason the big flashy mutual fund manager operates outside of the USA is that it would attract RICO attention. The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly referred to as the RICO Act or simply RICO, is a United States federal law that provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause of action for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization.

There are a few smoking guns at @#$%&* to indicate some of the crimes and you guessed it there are a few smoking guns in the new victim PCC.

The police and regulators will let one tragic investment loss slide - everyone is allowed one bad situation because of inexperience, stupidity, maybe a pandemic, however, when it happens the second time and third time - everyone knows it is criminal activity by design.

Over the past six months, a string of high-profile cyber attacks has disrupted hospitals, transit systems and academic institutions in Canada. These attacks have prompted a national conversation about what can be done to protect the critical infrastructure that Canadians depend on. IT professionals, governments and organizations of all types are looking for new ways to defend against bad actors and improve their cyber security practices—especially now that hybrid and remote work are here to stay. Donald MacLeod - Director Autonomous Defence and Sensors at CSE/Canadian Centre for Cyber Security

Donald is the Director of Autonomous Defence and Sensors at the Communications Security Establishment / Canadian Centre for Cyber Security where he works with a group that develops and operates the Government of Canada’s Host, Network and Cloud based sensors, as well as building relationships with the private sector in the field of cyber security.

Donald joined CSE in 1997 where he was responsible for setting up the Critical Infrastructure Protection portfolio. Donald has held various positions across CSE, including Senior Technical Advisor to the Director General of Capability Development and various executive level positions in Cyber Security, Intelligence Operations, and Engineering / Development.

He has worked closely with various levels of government, foreign partners, and the private sector including leading some of the initial work of defending the Government of Canada from cyber threats / compromises.

4H Canada Leadership Summit

Leadership Summit is an exciting opportunity for 4-H volunteer leaders and professionals to showcase the communities they are building, share innovative program ideas, and hear from experts on emerging topics. It includes a mix of workshops, an expert keynote, knowledge sharing, networking, and fun!

We’re heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia in April 2022, where Leadership Summit will be co-hosted by 4-H Nova Scotia, as part of 4-H Nova Scotia’s 100th-anniversary celebrations!

4-H is all about the “Learn To Do By Doing” approach. The best way to create a 4-H club where youth feel valued, connected, and supported is to experience these things when you attend Leadership Summit! We hope at the end of Leadership Summit you feel:

Valued, as we celebrate volunteer achievements;
Connected, as we share successes and challenges, and you expand your network within the 4-H movement;
Supported, as we share new resources and bring in experts to engage you in thinking about new approaches and best practices in positive youth development; and
Equipped, with new tools, skills, and ideas to take back to your club and share with your youth members.

Access to the Leadership Summit program, including all workshops, keynotes, sessions and activities.
Round-trip flight or other transportation to and from Leadership Summit
Ground transportation (shuttle to/from the hotel)
Meals (breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and breaks, beginning with lunch)

OSSTF/FEESO remains committed to building the capacity of educators by continuing to offer high quality professional growth opportunities created by members, for members. For the foreseeable future, a limited number of OSSTF Professional Development workshops will be available. These workshops have been adapted and will be available by webinar only.

Districts and Bargaining Units should be aware of the following:

Workshop content and materials are owned and copyrighted by OSSTF/FEESO.
The district rebate will be charged $500.00 if less than 20 participants attend the webinar. No charge will be applied for any webinar requests cancelled at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled delivery date. Webinars delivered to groups of 20 or more will continue to be offered free of charge to OSSTF/FEESO members.
Districts, Bargaining Units, or individual worksites requesting multiple webinars for the same date will be required to list the webinars in order of priority for delivery as some requests may not be filled due to overwhelming demand or lack of presenter availability. A maximum of four webinars will be confirmed for each requested professional development event. The identified priorities of the Districts and/or Bargaining Units will be used to determine which webinars are confirmed first. Additional webinars may be arranged based upon presenter availability.

The new quarantine extension does not affect the rules in place for ground travel between Canada and the U.S. The border travel ban has recently been extended until September 21, 2020, with more extensions likely. The strict quarantine regulations for international travel have been in place since March 25, 2020. The restrictions were enacted as an emergency order under Canada’s Quarantine Act to help contain Covid-19.

- The main goal of the 10- or 20-day Summer Academy is to strengthen the skills of representatives from state institutions, the business sector, INGOs/NGOs, education institutions and religious organisations as well as of independent mediators and politicians through academic training in peace building, mediation, conflict resolution, security, human rights, leadership and intercultural dialogue.

Bill 47 Changes Ontario College of Trades

Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith took over as Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development.

Bill 47 will adjust the journeyman-to-apprentice ratio. Now businesses that want to hire an apprentice need three journeymen electricians. When bill 47 passes it will be one journeyman to one apprentice.

Eric DenOuden says: "the move is necessary to address the expected shortage of skilled trades workers - We know that we’ve got about 85,000 tradespeople retiring in the next 10 years and they have to be replaced we also know that there’s an increased population and more houses are needed."

Introduction to Management
This course introduces students to the concept of management by exploring the roles and functions of managers in a business environment. The purpose of the course is to enhance the students' understanding of the elements of the management processes of planning, organizing, directing and controlling organizational activities. The course is designed to build a foundation of knowledge needed in future management courses.

Business Law
The course provides students with an overview of business law and an understanding of basic legal terminology. Since contracts form the heart of business operations, a significant portion of the course is dedicated to contract law and various legal issues arising from contract disputes. Class topics and discussions will draw on examples from current news media reports on legal cases. Knowledge of the court system includes field trips to the law courts when court schedules permit.

Managerial Accounting
This course introduces the student to the theory, principles and applications of fundamental business accounting. The course begins by introducing the student to the standard, time honoured accounting principles. The course will advance to apply accounting principles to specific financial statements, and detailed accounting transactions. The course finishes by familiarizing the student with the skills necessary to efficiently classify relevant business accounts culminating in the completion of the basic accounting cycle.

Financial Management
This introductory course is designed to expose students to financial issues and concerns of general managers in modern business. Focusing on how to use financial management to make decisions, this course provides students with all of the practical skills needed to succeed in business. Content includes examples of how Canadian companies adapted financial policies to recent financial crisis; as well as coverage of such topics as break-even analysis, shareholder value and financial statements.

Strategic Analysis
This course is designed to expose students to the issues and concerns of general managers in modern business. The course content builds on foundation concepts from the Introduction to Management course. Using case studies, students will analyze corporate strategies focusing on opportunities and problems in the context of the external and internal environments of companies. Important element of the analysis is how managers make strategic decisions for the success of the organization.

Human Resources Management
This course introduces theory, principles and applications of human resources from a managerial perspective. Operational issues such as HR planning, recruiting, job analysis, performance management and employee development, are some of the practical issues covered. The course ends with a look at international issues in HR management for companies operating in the global environment.

Organizational Behaviour
This course introduces students to the concepts of organizational behaviour and their application in today’s business environments. Students will develop insights into how the behaviour of individuals and groups impact on the organization. Further, they will learn to apply the theories and concepts to develop effective managerial competencies in such areas as teamwork, motivation, decision making and leadership.

Managerial Communications
The ability to communicate well is an essential requirement for all employees of an organization. In this course we explore the importance of communication in business and cross-cultural environments; students also compose various forms of written communication and prepare and deliver a formal business presentation.

International Business
This course introduces students to globalization and to the value-adding activities of businesses in the current global economy. First we discuss the impact of national cultures on doing business globally. In addition, we examine the external forces that impact businesses, international organizations, legal and labor forces in the global context. Further, the course touches on strategic alliances and the impact of rapid environmental changes on strategic planning for international business.

Marketing
This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to marketing concepts and terminology. It examines the importance of marketing within organizations and society in general. Students will study the major components of a marketing plan, the marketing mix and consumer relationships. They will learn how to address the basic needs of companies in planning, developing, and managing products, distribution channels, promotion and pricing.
