I've become a kitty who'd rather just live his life than report about it. All part of mum's and my living in the moment.

Lotsa Lap

I've had to share mum's lap lately with her new knitting project. Doesn't bother me much...although when I awaken from my nap and dive for mum's yarn, then I get scooted off her lap for a bit. I've always been a thread freak, and wiggling yarn is too enticing for me to pass up.

Here we are already, a year away from when I was sick last year. I continue to be doing better than ever. Yes, I'm older, as we all are. But mum's taking such good care of me that I'm thriving. Eating my high-protein food, taking a few supplements, playing like a teenager still. And thin, as in the appropriate body weight for a senior kitty. When we moved into Rose Cottage, eight years ago, I weighed nearly 18 pounds. Now I'm holding well at 10 pounds. So, I'm glad to be alive for another year, and several more to come.

Aren't I adorbs? This image is actually kind of old, as in a few years. But we still love it coz it shows off how beautiful I am! I was heftier then, you can tell by my somewhat-extended ruff. And younger, of course. But still beautiful. I'm a looker, wink wink!

Asleep at the Wheel

I've been supervising mum's studio upgrade this week, but she caught me asleep on her lap during a bit of downtime. It's utterly exhausting watching mum as she scurries around the studio, making trips to the recycling bin outside, moving things into or out of the shed, reorganizing most of the shelves in the place.

Now, it's back to sleep for me.

Mum didn't take any photos of me this week, so she caught me napping this morning. It's been a busy week for us. I'm grieving because the ironing board is gone from the north window. Guess I'll have to be happy sitting on the window sill there, instead. But where am I gonna go now when mum vacuums and it scares the daylights out of me?! I'll have to find another hiding place.

What I accomplished in 2017...

This is my 38th post this year. That's more posts than I've done any previous year since 2010.

I'm half-way toilet trained.

I got sick but I recovered swimmingly, and I'm better than I was before.

I broke my habit, with mom's help, of jumping up on her big studio table.

That's enough for an old cat.

Progress Report

Thought I'd update you guys on my progress in becoming a toilet-trained cat.

I'm about 75 percent of the way there now. I'm actually using the toilet to do my business, but there's a shallow box inside there that has a decreasing amount of litter in it and a hole in the middle of the bottom that's getting progressively bigger.

When the hole in the box is big enough and I can see my "business" go right into the toilet, and when I'm continuing to use that setup in the toilet, then mom will remove the box and I'll be toilet trained.

Meanwhile, during this process, I am breaking my dependency on litter. In a little more than a month, I've gone from 10 pounds of litter in my old, regular box, that had to be changed twice a week, to half a cup at a time in my in-toilet training box, that mom just dumps in the toilet every time I use it. Patting myself on the back.

You can teach an old cat new tricks!

Talk and Eating

Now that mom can hear what I have to say, I've been talking up a storm...especially when I'm hungry and she isn't feeding me on my preferred schedule. Which, BTW, is eight small meals a day. Wow, do I ever have her wrapped around my little toe.

Occasionally she's tried giving me twice as much food, thinking she'll feed me four times a day instead of eight. But I just eat it all in one sitting and on my next scheduled feeding I'm just as hungry as if she'd fed me half as much last time. So she doesn't do that anymore.

Mom's got my number, and I've got hers. She's my slave. But what else is she going to do with her life, now that she's a retiree? I'm keeping her active.

In Training

Today is the first day of my training program...to be a toilet-trained cat.

Purportedly, in between 2 to 4 months, I will be trained to do my business in the toilet, instead of using a litter box.

I've been led to understand there will be treats doled out to me at certain points in the program, as I grasp the incremental changes and make them operational.

This is a step-by-step program and my mission is to accomplish each step before moving on to the next.

The very first change is that mom moved my litter box to the side of the bathroom where the toilet is. Actually, she did this without my yet being aware of it, as I'm currently looking out the window and haven't been into the loo since before she shifted things around. I suspect I'm in for a big surprise.

We'll just take things a step at a time, one day at a time...and we'll subsequently see just how malleable I am, whether it is possible to teach an old cat new tricks.

Hangin' on mom's lap earlier this week. It looks like my irises are different colors, but they're not; just a trick of the light.

We've had rain, and the temps are down at early-winter levels, 50s during the day, 40 or so at night.

Otherwise, no news is good news.

Don't forget to set your clocks back tonight, if you're in the States!
