Bruges is known for keeping intact most of its medieval architecture. The Historic Centre of Bruges has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. One of its many notable medieval buildings is the Church of Our Lady, whose tower reaches 122.3 meters in height, making it the second tallest brickwork tower in the world. However, the most celebrated art treasure of the church is a white marble sculpture of the Madonna and Child created by Michelangelo around 1504.
