Erasmus Mundus Scholarships in International Performance Research (MAIPR)

Overview
The Erasmus Mundus MA in International Performance Research (MAIPR) is a 16-month programme aimed at students with a particular interest and/or background in the performing arts, therefore those who may wish to pursue a career in or add value to already existing skills in aspects of arts practice or pursue an academic career through advanced study, perhaps leading to a Ph.D.

The ideal candidate has a strong academic background and also experience with creative practice in theatre and/or performance. You may be in your final year of an undergraduate degree or have been working in a performance-related profession or area. The current MAIPR intakes are truly international, made up of students from all continents (except Antartica!) We have students who have entered straight after finishing their undergraduate degrees in performance-related disciplines and others who have worked as directors, choreographers, curators, dancers and actors. You should bear in mind, however, that MAIPR is not a practical training programme. What it will do is help you develop and enhance your theoretical knowledge about performance-related issues, and it will certainly add value to your already existing skills base.

Funded by the European Commission, the MAIPR from autumn 2011 will be offered by four internationally renowned academic institutions: the University of Warwick in the UK; the Universiteit van Amsterdam (the University of Amsterdam) in The Netherlands; the Univerzitet Umetnosti u Beogradu (University of Arts Belgrade) in Serbia; and the Helsingin Yliopisto (the University of Helsinki) in Finland.

Scholarship
Category A scholarships (€34,000) are aimed at covering all the costs of the programme, therefore fees, travel and living expenses over 16 months. For 2012-13, we will be awarding the following number of scholarships:

7 scholarships for eligible third-country applicants (therefore those whose nationality and place of abode are outside of the EU/EEA/EFTA area).
3 additional scholarships may become available to applicants from the following three areas: West Balkans and Turkey (1 scholarship); Tunisia and Egypt (1 scholarship); Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova or Ukraine (1 scholarship). The MAIPR Consortium, however, is not yet in a position to confirm if we are getting these scholarships; further advice will be uploaded in due course.

Applicants must have lived, studied and/or worked for LESS THAN a cumulative period of 12 months within the EU/EEA/EFTA area as at 31 January 2012. After the € 12 000 programme fee has been deducted from the EM scholarship, you will receive € 24 000. This amount is made up as follows:

€ 8 000 travel and installation allowance
€ 16 000 monthly stipend

The above will usually be paid in 16 x monthly instalments of € 1 500. The first payment will be made shortly after arrival at your home university.

Category B scholarships (€17,000) are considered as financial contributions rather than full scholarships. For 2012-13 we will be awarding the following number of scholarships: 5 scholarships for eligible EU/EEA/EFTA applicants, also third-country applicants who have lived, studied and/or worked for MORE THAN a cumulative period of 12 months within the EU/EEA/EFTA area as at 31 January 2012. After the programme fee has been deducted from the EM scholarship, an EU student will receive € 8 000 living allowance a €3 000 travel and installation allowance. This will be paid at a rate of €687.50.

EM scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. It is therefore important that your MAIPR application is as strong as possible as competition for the scholarships is very strong. You should also bear in mind that you may be accepted onto the MAIPR programme but not be awarded a scholarship. Remember: if your application for the 2012-13 MAIPR is received after the 3rd-January 2012 deadline or it is incomplete on that date, unfortunately we cannot enter you into the EM scholarship competition.

Eligibility
Students with a particular interest and/or background in the performing arts, therefore those who may wish to pursue a career in or add value to already existing skills in aspects of arts practice or pursue an academic career through advanced study, perhaps leading to a Ph.D. You need to demonstrate that you have good enough English to study. This is usually done by taking one of the University of Warwick`s accepted language tests, as follows: IELTS (British Council International Testing System) Passing score of at least 7; or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Passing score of at least 620 (paper based) or 260 (computer based) or 105 (internet-based iBT)

How to apply?
The best way to apply is online via the University of Warwick, the coordinating institution for the Consortium. To register your application and gain access to the form, you should enter a valid email and an easily remembered password. Make sure that you choose the correct course code: P-W4PA.

If you are unable to apply on-line, you can send in a paper application. You need to request the application form from the University of Warwick`s Student Recruitment department, via student.recruitment@warwick.ac.uk . If you choose this option, it is your responsibility to make sure that the completed application form and all the required support documents are sent to Postgraduate Admissions in enough time to arrive by the relevant MAIPR deadline. You must also include the application fee (Warwick`s Postgraduate Admissions levy a non-refundable application handling fee for all taught postgraduate courses, including the MAIPR. You need to back-up your application with supporting documentation. The best way to supply this quickly is by using the supporting document upload facility. You will be given directions by email on how to do this once you have submitted and paid for your application. To be entered into the 2012-13 Erasmus Mundus scholarship competitions, ALL of your support documentation, including both references, must have been received on or by 3rd January 2012. If your application is incomplete on that date, regretably we will be unable to put you into the EM scholarship competition. You must therefore contact both your referees in enough time to allow them to prepare their references so they can be received by the deadline. You should also allow plenty of time to obtain your transcripts and/or degree certificates, especially if you need to get them translated into English by an official translation service. What do we offer?
The World Health Organization (WHO) as the leader in global public health issues is committed to building future leaders in public health. WHO`s Internship Programme offers a wide range of opportunities for students to gain insight in the technical and administrative programmes of WHO.

The duration of WHO internships is between six weeks to three months. Exceptionally, internships may be extended up to a maximum of 24 weeks depending on your degree requirements. Unfortunately, WHO internships are not paid and all costs of travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the intern or the sponsoring institution.

Who are we looking for?

You are enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) both at the time of application and during the internship.
You have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
You are at least 20 years old.
You possess a first degree in a public health, medical or social field related to the technical work of WHO or a degree in a management-related or administrative field.
You are fluent in the working language of the office of assignment.

Conditions of WHO Headquarters internships

The duration of WHO internships is between a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 12 weeks. Exceptionally, internships
WHO internships are not paid. Travel costs, travel arrangements (including visas), and living accommodations are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
Persons related to a WHO staff member, i.e., son/daughter, brother/sister are not eligible for an internship.
Interns must possess a passport of a WHO Member State.
WHO Interns must have adequate medical insurance coverage during the entire period of the internships. This medical coverage must include Switzerland.
Interns may participate only once in the WHO Internship Programme.
Interns do not have the status of WHO staff members and shall not represent the Organization in any official capacity.
WHO Interns are not eligible for appointment to any position within WHO for a period of three months following the end of their internship. Any employment with WHO at that point in time shall be subject to established recruitment and selection procedures.

PLEASE NOTE: Application Dates and Deadlines

Summer (May to October)
To be considered for a summer internship, applications are accepted between December 1 - January 31 each year.

Winter (November to April)
To be considered for a winter internship, applications are accepted between August 1 - September 30 each year.

The application process requires developing an individual profile within WHO`s e-Recruitment system. This profile covers your education, current studies, language skills and computer knowledge and experience. Students may lack professional experience or find it challenging to complete the levels within the expertise section in eRecruit. Suggestion: Review your experience in light of your academic career or any activities you`ve done. Show how these experiences have provided you skills and competencies to work in a team, to make decisions and to solve problems. These may relate to your actual schooling or a personal situation.

You are encouraged to supply a Cover Letter to articulate your motivation for seeking a WHO Internship (maximum length - 3 paragraphs). In this letter describe what type of project you feel you could contribute while interning with WHO. Tell us about your ideas. As part of your covering letter, include your dates of availability and any additional information to facilitate the selection process. If selected for a WHO Internship, you will be required to provide certified copies of proof of enrolment in a course of studies and proof of personal medical insurance (illness) coverage (which must include Switzerland.)

All applications for WHO Internships are acknowledged when received and are made available to technical units for review. The period of time for this review is indeterminate. If you do not hear from a WHO technical unit in a reasonable period of time (say 1-2 months after the application closing date), assume that you will not be considered for a WHO internship at this time.

As an important reminder, WHO Internships are not paid. Living in Geneva is expensive and finding accommodations can be challenging. All intern candidates should be aware of these factors before they consider applying for a WHO Internship. WHO does not provide financial support, so interns are encouraged to seek funding from other external sources. Applying for funding can be time-consuming and complicated, so interns are advised to start their funding search well in advance. When applying for funding, you are likely to be requested to provide proof of offer stating that you have been accepted for an internship with the WHO. If you have been accepted for an internship with the WHO, and thereby eligible to join the intern community, additional information will be provided to you to aid you in identifying sources of funding.

Warning: If selected for an internship and you are identifying accommodations in Geneva, do NOT make advance payments or provide guarantee sums in advance of your arrival. St Cross College invites applications for this scholarship from students who will begin studying at the University of Oxford in the academic year 2012-2013 for a postgraduate research degree in Music. Preference may be given to a research topic related to the musical collections at the University, including those at the Ashmolean Museum, those at the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Bate Collection in the Faculty of Music and those held in any of the colleges.

The successful applicant may be based in the Faculty of Music or if working on other musical collections based in any relevant Faculty or Department including the Faculty of History and the School of Anthropology. One scholarship is offered each year for enrollment in the Stanford Sloan Master`s Program, a 10 ½ month, full-time program leading to the degree of Master of Science in Management.

One of three degree programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Stanford Sloan Program provides an ideal learning environment for successful mid-career executives who are preparing for greater levels of leadership and responsibility within their organizations, or who may be choosing a new career path. Stanford Sloan Fellows come from over 20 different countries, sharing personal and professional insights based on their years of significant work experience (minimum of 8).

Selection Criteria

Overview
Geographic Information is a rapidly growing economical sector: it is suggested, that 80 % of all decisions in Economy and Politics have a spatial relation. The goal of the Masters program in Geospatial Technologies is to form specialists able to carry out a wide variety of geospatial projects in industry and academics.

The Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies qualifies for a professional career in the following domains:

Private sector: GI applications and consulting in the domains of regional planning, landscape planning, financial services industry, energy providing industry, transportation, agriculture and forestry, and retailing/marketing;
Research: Applied sciences at universities and other research institutions;
Public sector: GI applications and consulting in local and regional administrations, especially in cadastre and different types of planning (e.g., regional, traffic, ecology).

The Master`s program targets holders of a Bachelor`s degree with a qualification in application areas of Geographic Information (GI), e.g., environmental planning, regional planning, geography, logistics, transportation, marketing, energy provision, computer science.

Erasmus Mundus scholarships: Call for applications

Overview
Applications are invited from suitably qualified international students for scholarships to undertake the degree of Master by Research or Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Western Australia. Application for a scholarship is also an application for admission to the University.

The purpose of the IPRS and the UWA SIRF scheme is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas in which the University has specialised research strengths and to support Australia`s research effort. Successful applicants can expect to become members of a research team working under the direction of senior researchers and in an area which has attracted external resources.

These scholarships cover International Tuition Fees for up to four (4) years, as well as Overseas Student Health Cover. Successful applicants may also be awarded a full living allowance scholarship.

Available in the IPRS/SIRF second application round for 2012. Applications will be assessed after the closing date. Scholarships can commence from 1 July 2012.

Eligibility
Applications for international postgraduate research scholarships at UWA are rated according to the following criteria: (a) Academic achievement; (b) English language achievement; (c) Research training achievement; and (d) Proposed research environment.

Overview A 3-year PhD scholarship is open within the European FP7 project “Biomedical engineering for cancer and brain diseases diagnostics and therapy development EngCaBra”. DTU Nanotech is carrying out research in the areas of micro- and nanofabrication including nano- and biotechnology. The project EngCaBra is an interdisciplinary collaboration between universities and companies in different countries in Europe. EngCaBra`s goal is the realisation of novel methods and devices for analysis of cellular and molecular mechanisms related to cancer and brain diseases.

The successful candidate will work on testing, functionalisation and integrating the sensor systems into a fully automated microfluidic point of care system. The novel Nanosensors are based on silicon nanowires. Challenges on the automation and integration to a final point of care system have to be overcome.

Qualifications
Candidates must have (or soon to obtain) a master`s degree in engineering, chemistry, physics or biology or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a master`s degree. The suitable candidate should show an interest in biomedical applications of integrated systems and have good teamwork skills. Expertise within microfluidics is a must, also one or more of the following areas would be attractive.

Electrochemistry / Biochemistry
Surface modification
Lab on a chip integration, automation, optimisation and testing.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to:

Experience with microfluidics and point of care devices
Experience with simulation and analysis of microfluidic systems

According to the rules of the Marie Curie program the applicant must be nationals of a State other than that of the host organisation. Overview
The two-year degree programme of a Master in Transcultural European Outdoor Studies (TEOS) offered by the Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany, coordinator), the University of Cumbria (England) and the Norges Idrettshogskole in Oslo (Norway) is a response to the fact that outdoor practice and the pedagogy connected with it has gained tremendous significance in all industrial countries in recent years. The aim of the course is to impart a qualifications profile that, on the one hand, embraces the accumulated knowledge of the three central traditions of the philosophy of outdoor pedagogics – the Norwegian Friluftsliv, the English Outdoor Education and the German Erlebnispädagogik, and that, on the other hand, leads to the development of a transcultural sensitivity which allows students to discern the cultural transitions and open borders between the three national concepts that have been there from the beginning and have been retained until today.

The qualifications profile graduates thus acquire will enable them to take on leadership and planning tasks especially on a conceptional level in outdoor centres, in youth work and in clubs, in schools development, in personnel development or in companies of the outdoor industry. The classes of the two-year full-time course of studies (120 credits) will be conducted in English. The first semester will take place at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside and will comprise the teaching of the English national outdoor discourse as well as the historical origins of outdoor practice in Europe.

This Master`s course offers:

Teaching of knowledge of the individual national disciplines, discourses, traditions and practices of the subject,
Theoretical and practical study of transitions, thresholds, borders and connection options between concepts and traditions of outdoor pedagogies typical for the individual countries: Outdoor Education in England, Friluftsliv in Norway and Erlebnispädagogik in Germany,
Promotion of job-relevant attitudes of transcultural rationality, which not only demand theoretical reflexion and subject-related practical processing but which are also based on the informal learning taking place in the half-year stay in each of the countries of the three participating European universities.

Applicants from China, from Vietnam and from Mongolia need a certification by the Academic Evaluation Centre.The Academic Evaluation Centre (Akademische Prüfstelle – APS) provides services on behalf of the Cultural Section of the German Embassy in conjunction with the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD). The APS is effectively the gateway to study in Germany for applicabnts from China, Vietnam and Mongolia. After the successful verification of an applicant`s documents (this could include a validation interview or a Test for Academic Studies), the APS issues a certificate which German universities demand as an entry requirement. This certificate attests the authenticity of the documents that have been handed in by the applicant, and also that the person has achieved sufficient qualifications in their home country in order to be able to apply for a place at a German university.

Category A scholarships are considered as “full scholarships” covering all necessary costs incurred by the student during his/her study period in Europe. Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship – are awarded to students selected by TEOS consortia, who are nationals of a Third Country (all countries outside the EU Member states, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland), who have not carried out their main activity (studies, research or work) for more than 12 non-consecutive months over the last 5 years in one of the 27 EU Member States, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.

Category B scholarships are considered as a “financial contribution” to the student`s costs while following his/her studies.Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarship – are awarded to students selected by TEOS consortia, who are nationals of one of the 27 EU Member states, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland or any third country students who has spent at least 12 (non-consecutive) months, over the last 5 years, working, studying or doing research in one of the 27 EU Member States, Liectenstein, Norway and Iceland.

Eligibility

The minimum academic qualification is a Bachelor`s degree or comparable qualification with a background inOutdoor Education, Education, Social Sciences or Environmental Sciences. Applicants must have acquired a minimum of 45 points within the framework of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in educational or social/cultural related modules (classes) during their university studies.
English language requirements: Students must be able to study courses in English effectively. We therefore require certified English language skills of at least B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages(CEFR) or equivalent. The minimum English language requirements for obtaining a scholarship are e.g. TOEFL: 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), 80 (internet-based), IELTS: Band 5 (academic),First Certificate in English.
Work experience: In the case of similar academic achievements, preference will be given to students with relevant work experience in the field of education and outdoor education.

Scholarship
Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship:
1,000 € per month for two years (24,000 €).
8,000 € for mobility (e.g. travel from home to Europe and back).
Participation fees which are paid by the EU to the TEOS coordinating university.

Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarship:
500 € per month for two year (12,000 €).

Overview
Erasmus Mundus (IT4BI) Scholarships in Information Technologies for Business Intelligence. Since its inception 20 years ago, Business Intelligence (BI) has become a huge industrial domain and a major economic driver, however overlooked by academics. It encompasses many scientific and technological fields including data warehouses, data mining, content analytics, business process management, visual analytics, and requires competences in information systems, web science, decision science, software engineering, and innovation and entrepreneurship. The European Master`s Programme in Information Technologies for Business Intelligence (IT4BI) is designed to provide understanding, knowledge and skills in this broad scope of fields. Its main objective is to train computer scientists who understand and help develop the strategies of modern enterprise decision makers.

Presentation & Structure
The program favours the integration of students into a network of specialists and researchers in BI. The curriculum is jointly delivered by Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium, Université François Rabelais Tours (UFRT) in France, Ecole Centrale Paris (ECP) in France, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain, and Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) in Germany. Scholars from academic partners around the world and partners from leading industries in BI, private R&D companies, service companies, public research institutes, and public authorities will contribute to the programme by training students, providing computers, software, course material, job placement or internship perspectives, as well as financial support. This consortium will prepare the graduates not only to answer today`s professional challenges by a strong connection with the needs coming from the industry, but also to pursue their studies into doctorate programs, through strong connections with the researchers` and innovators` views.

Admission Criteria
To apply to IT4BI, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

They have been awarded a Bachelor`s degree (i.e., the equivalent of 180 ECTS) with a major in computer science, from an accredited university.
They must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test equivalent to level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The consortium will rely on how certification bodies evaluate their own equivalences against this framework, e.g., Cambridge General English FCE, IELTS (General Training or Academic) 5.5 (with no individual score below 5.5), TOEFL (paper based) 570, TOEFL (computer based) 230, TOEFL (internet based) 88, etc.

Scholarships

Are scholarships available?

The Erasmus Mundus programme provides EU-funded scholarships to students who have been selected by the consortium. The scholarship amount is €24,000 per year for non European students and €11,500 per year for European students.

Who can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship?

Two categories of scholarships are available:

Category A Scholarships: they can be granted by the Consortium to non European students. Category A scholarship is 24,000 euros per year.

Category B Scholarships: they can be granted by the Consortium to European students.
Category B scholarship is 11,500 euros per year.

What does the Erasmus Mundus scholarship cover? Do Erasmus Mundus scholarships cover all expenses?

Erasmus Mundus scholarship are meant to cover tuition fees, participation costs (including insurance coverage), contribute to cover travel cost and installation cost, and include a monthly allowance. More precisely: An Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship covers tuition fees and allows to cover all expenses that students normally face during their studies (i.e., 1000€ per moth plus a lump-sum of 8000€, for installation). An Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarship covers tuition fees and provides a finantial contribution to the student`s costs while following the master (i.e. 500€ per month plus a lump-sum of 3000€, for installation).

Are European students eligible to Erasmus Mundus scholarships?

Yes, European students, i.e., students from the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, can apply to Category B scholarship.

Are scholarships available for scholars?

The grant consists of 1`600 CHF per month for the duration of the Master`s programme (standard period of study). Application files will be examined by a selection committee. We are looking for talented and motivated recent graduates or final year undergraduates, with backgrounds in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, maths and computing, who have decided that they want to do a PhD and:

have or expect to gain a first/upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject;
have laboratory or research experience (either as part of or outside of a university degree course);
are able to satisfy the English language requirements of University College London, where our students are registered (see FAQs).

2012 Fujitsu Scholarships in East-West Knowledge Leaders Program

Overview
Fujitsu Limited established the Fujitsu Scholarship Program in 1985 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding. The aim was to provide the opportunity for people from the Asia-Pacific region to contribute to the region through studying different values, cultures, and global business. This has been a Fujitsu`s key initiative for deepening the relationships between the countries and citizens of the Asia-Pacific region. This scholarship has since enabled 420 professionals from 18 countries to study cross-cultural management at JAIMS, the Japan-America Institute of Management Science, in Hawaii, U.S.A.

The Fujitsu Scholarship provides full financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training in the East-West Knowledge Leaders Program (EWKLP) at JAIMS. The EWKLP has a three-month curriculum, which synthesizes the best practices of both the East and West.

The participants will sharpen their global management knowledge and skills, and build the confidence necessary for success in global business situations. Selected Fujitsu Scholar will attend the EWKLP beginning in April 2012, followed by a week-long Japan Portion.

Qualifications
To apply for the Fujitsu Scholarship, you must meet the qualifications for both Fujitsu Scholarship and EWKLP as follows.

1. Education
A bachelor`s degree or a degree equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution
2. G.P.A.
Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
3. Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience (five years preferred) at the time of application
4. Language
A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750, or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between December 2009 and November 2011.

The following applicants are exempt from submitting an English proficiency test score:

Applicants whose native language is English and who are from either the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, or Singapore.
Applicants who hold a bachelor`s or advanced degree within the last five years from an accredited or recognized college or university in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, or Singapore.

Airfare:
Fujitsu Ltd. will provide a round-trip air ticket to cover transportation from the participant`s home country to Honolulu, and back. The selection of the air carrier and travel agent, including itinerary, is at the discretion of Fujitsu Ltd. In the event the participant wishes to change and/or expand the route and/or the period of stay, Fujitsu Ltd. reserves the right to withhold the original ticket.

Health Insurance:
Fujitsu Ltd. will provide medical insurance that covers a portion of the participant`s medical expenses during the program period. The participant pays all medical expenses not covered by the medical insurance. The selection of the medical insurance plan is at the discretion of Fujitsu Ltd.

Housing Arrangements:
JAIMS will assist in locating appropriate housing in Honolulu for all participants. Fujitsu Ltd. will provide and pay for participant accommodations in Japan.

Visa Arrangements:
When applicable, participants will be assisted in obtaining the F-1 Student visa to enter the U.S. EWKLP participants will be assisted with the appropriate visa to enter Japan, if necessary. The expense of obtaining the visa is the financial responsibility of the participant

Liberal Arts Undergraduate Scholarships at King`s College London

Overview
This undergraduate scholarship scheme is being launched in 2012 for students undertaking the new BA Liberal Arts at King`s College London.
The School of Arts & Humanities will be offering up to five Liberal Arts Scholarships of £15,000 each (£5,000 per annum) to those successfully applying for entry into the BA Liberal Arts in September 2012.

The scholarships are designed to offer assistance to outstanding candidates who are in need of extra financial support to undertake the degree.

Scholarships will therefore be awarded on the basis of:

The Centre for Pesticide Application and Safety (CPAS) is a national scientific research and training group located within the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at The University of Queensland, Gatton campus near Brisbane. It has been working for many years on pesticide exposure research and training, both within Australia and internationally. The role
We are seeking PhD or MPhil candidate to join a multi-disciplinary team as part of an Australian Grain Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) project titled `Core DRT (Drift Reducing Technologies) Database to Support the Ground Application of Pesticides (boom sprayer), accommodating Nozzles, Formulations and Adjuvants` This research will be conducted in the pesticide wind tunnel research complex at the Gatton Campus of The University of Queensland.

The person
Applicants, both national and international with an appropriate degree in science or engineering and an interest in the field are invited to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with grounding in plant protection and/or spray technology. For international students, the scholarship will not cover fees, but the applicant may apply for a UQI scholarship for fee support.

Eligibility

Overview
The University Commission for Development (CUD) or (CIUF) is responsible for the implementation of the policy of university cooperation for development. Within the programme for international courses and training programmes, CIUF grants 150 scholarships for participation into the courses and 70 for participation into the training programmes.

Selection Criteria

The academic curriculum
For courses, priority will be granted to candidates who have not yet obtained a postgraduate degree, save for exceptional circumstances specified in the application file.

The benefit of previous scholarships
Priority will be granted to candidates who have not yet benefited from a scholarship in Belgium.

Professional experience
CIUF grants scholarships as a matter of priority to candidates who, upon termination of their University studies, have had the opportunity of practising a profession in relation to problems of development. The social impact of professional experience constitutes an element of assessment.

Membership of a partner institution
Candidates who are appointed by an institution with which CIUF has concluded a partnership, either within the framework of institutional co-operation or within the framework of an own-initiative programme, will be granted priority in case of equality on the other selection criteria.

The commitment of the candidate to development activities
Special attention will be given to files of candidates who, beyond their academic qualities, have shown commitment to development issues. This commitment may materialise in having worked with the most disadvantaged social categories, and in having tried to define with them the efficient means to defend and promote their interests.

Nationality
CIUF aims at diversifying the geographic origin of the scholars. It sees to it that in the overall of the international courses and training programmes organised in the framework of its North-Actions programme, candidates origina-ting in sub-saharian Africa represent 50% of the total number of scholars.

Equality of sexes
CIUF grants special attention to the participation of women in the international courses and training programmes organised within the framework of the North-Actions programme.

Perspectives of future reinstatement
Major guarantees are required concerning the return of the candidate to his country of origin or to another developing country, as well as his reinstatement in a profession that enables him to put the training acquired in Belgium at the service of development (e.g. labour contract, formal promise of appointment) and to produce a multiplier effect to the benefit of his country of origin.

2012 Study of the United States Institutes for Students Leaders

Overview
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, is pleased to announce that recruitment is opened for candidates for the FY-2012 Study of the United States for Student Leaders interested in the topic of Global Environmental Issues. The program will take place over the course of five weeks in July and August, 2012, for a group of students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam.

The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders are intensive academic programs whose purpose is to provide groups of undergraduate student leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States, while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills. The institute will consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures. The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel to other parts of the United States, local site visits, and volunteer opportunities. The institute will include an academic residency component of approximately four weeks and a domestic travel component of approximately one week that will conclude with a 2-3 day program in Washington, D.C.

The Study of the U.S Institute on Global Environmental Issues will explore the role that environmental policy has played in the economic and political development of the U.S. The institute will use experiential learning techniques to expose participants to current themes in the field, including natural resource management, sustainable development/agricultural practices, food security, ecotourism, energy generation (new and traditional forms), and water management and treatment. The Institute might also examine the relationship between environmental security and national security.

All candidates should be proficient in English so that they can be an active participant in the academic program. Host institutions will take into account that the level of comprehension and speaking ability of students may vary, and will prepare lectures and discussions that meet the highest academic standards while using language appropriate for students where English is their second or third language. The participants are expected to be highly motivated first through third year undergraduate students from colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education, who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. Candidates will have a strong interest in the environment and may come from vary fields of study and will include Agriculture, Biology, Ecotourism, Engineering, Environmental Law, Environment Science, International Affairs, Public Policy and Sustainable Development. Participants from non-elite backgrounds, from both rural and urban sectors, and with little or no prior experience in the United States or elsewhere outside their home country are encouraged to apply for this program.

To be eligible, applicants must:

have a strong interest in the environment
be fluent in English with minimum TOEFL score of 500 or 61 on Internet-based TOEFL or higher
be typically 25 years of age or younger
first to third year undergraduate students
be committed to returning to their home universities following completion of their institute program
demonstrate strong leadership qualities and potential in their university and community activities especially in environmental issues
indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States
have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated in grades, awards, and teacher recommendations
have demonstrated commitment to community and extracurricular university activities
have had little or no prior study or travel experience in the United States or elsewhere outside of their home country
be mature, responsible, independent, confident, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful and inquisitive
be willing and able to fully participate in an intensive academic program, community service, and educational travel program and,
be comfortable with campus life, prepared to share living accommodations, and able to make adjustments to cultural and social practices different from those of their home country.

Applicants who do not already have an official TOEFL score of 500 or above should plan to take the TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP) on October 29, 2011 or November 5, 2011 at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Registration for the ITP is available through the Educational Advising Center at RUPP from Monday-Friday, at 023-884-320.
