History

In 1997, he has started a socio-political movement in Pakistan known as Movement for Justice (Urdu: Tehrik-e-Insaaf) and ran for office in the National Elections. The movement has Islamic overtones and was inspired partly by Khan’s renewed commitment to Islam. He became a Member of Parliament forMianwali in the October 2002 elections. He is very critical of the judicial system in Pakistan, which he says prevents accountability for the elite class in Pakistan. Initially Imram supported 1999′smilitray coup of General Pervez Musharraf, however came in to the fore-front of those against General and President Musharraf.

Introduction

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Movement for Justice) is a political party in Pakistan. At the last legislative elections, 20 October 2002, the party won 0.8% of the popular vote and 1 out of 272 elected members.PTI has also a seat in provincial assembly of N.W.F.P. PTI is headed by Cricket legend Imran Khan. “Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem” is the slogan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.Imran Khan, the chairman of the party is also the chancellor of Bradford University,England. He has masters degrees in Political Science, Economics and Philosophy. He has recently put forward a solution for Pakistan’s issues related to its system. His solution has three points (1)Independent Election Commission (2)Independent Judiciary (3)Independent accountability bureau. Party is working for the implementation of this solution.PTI is playing its role as an opposition party. It has its major influence in Pakistan’s middle class. Party wants to send back Army to barracks.

Early Years

Imran Khan is known for making a politically charged statements that have raised eyebrows, both when he was captain of the Pakistan team and later in his role as a politician. The first of these statements came during an India Pakistan match in Sharjah where Imran remarked, “Let’s settle the Kashmir issue over the cricket match”. Though Imran claimed that he had made that statement only casually. Versions of this statement are often used as jokes in Pakistan

In 2005, as leader of his party, Imran led a protest rally against the US led coalition which had desecrated the Holy Quran and made statements denouncing the Musharraf-Bush coalition. He described Musharraf as President Bush’s Blue-Eye-Boy, however President Clinton was even reluctant to shake hand with Musharraf. Imran continues to be critical of Pro-American policies of Pakistan government. On December 7th 2005, he was elected as the Chancellor of University of Bradford, the first international personality to have been given the honour by the university. During the recent visit in 2006 of George W. Bush to Pakistan, Imran was the only politician to attempt to hold a rally against his visit. The rally was stopped and Imran Khan was detained by the police.

The Pakistan Muslim League (N) is currently headed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

2008 parliamentary election:

After returning to Pakistan, the PML (N) contested the 2008 general election, demanding a restoration of the judges sacked under the emergency rule placed by President Pervez Musharraf and removal of Musharraf as President. After the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Sharif announced that the PML (N) would boycott the polls, but after some time and conversations with the co-chairman of the PPP, Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz announced that the party would contest in the polls and began to rally in the Punjab areas. On February 18, 2008, after the polls were closed and the results had been announced, the PML-N gained 68 seats in the National Assembly, just behind the PPP. They announced that they would have discussions on forming a coalition with the PPP which would have half the seats in the 342 seat Parliament. In a press conference on February 19, Nawaz called for President Pervez Musharraf to step down. Nawaz and Zardari agreed on forming a coalition, and Nawaz announced that he and his party gave the PPP the right to choose the next Prime Minister.

Structural composition

The General Council Meeting (GCM) served its major platform to elect presidents and secretaries while it is also responsible for promoting PML-N activities. Its current president is Nawaz Sharif. The General Council Meeting raises funds, and coordinates campaign strategy while there are local committees every provinces and most large cities, counties and legislative districts, but they have far less money and influence than the national body. The Central Secretariat and the Parliament Lodges of Pakistan Parliament play important roles in recruiting strong state candidates.

Vision :

PML-N aims to realize the founding vision of Pakistan through building a knowledge economy with modern infrastructure and world class human resource, building globally competitive high value agriculture and manufacturing sectors, strengthening national democratic institutions, establishing good governance & justice, ensuring equitable access to economic opportunity, alleviating poverty, protecting freedom of media, and providing quality social services to all.

PML-N vision is a strong, democratic, developed, prosperous and just Pakistan in which every citizen enjoys equal opportunities to develop and grow without any discrimination and a harmonious society based on universal principles of social justice as enshrined in golden teachings of Islam,

Imran Khan is calling again his TIGERS for another DREAM – another CHALLENGE: Namal Knowledge City (Mianwali).

Remember, Imran’s tigers were the revolutionary group of individuals who initiated a change in this country, collecting massive donations from all over the country, going from door to door, out on the streets in order to contribute in the making of the first state of the art cancer hospital “Shaukat Khanum”. Simply put, Imran’s Tigers supported Imran Khan’s DREAM for SKMH and took upon the challenge of fighting a disease which was then considered a ‘Rich-Man’s Disease’. Today,it is because of these tigers’ that millions of lives have been saved in the fight for Cancer. Tigers stood up for a cause, and set a benchmark for generations to come, that united, one can achieve even the IMPOSSIBLE.

Now, Imran Khan is back with another DREAM – Another CHALLENGE for his Tigers: NAMAL KNOWLEDGE CITY (Mianwali).

He is the first Pakistani scholar to have been selected for the prestigious TR35 award in the last decade, says a press release.
“The TR35 recognizes the world’s top 35 young innovators that are radically transforming technology as we know it. Their work – spanning medicine, computing, communications, energy, electronics and nanotechnology — is changing our world”, according to MIT Technology Review.
Dr Saif has been honoured for his work on technologies for the developing-world. Technologies developed by Dr Saif’s research group and startups are used by millions of people in the developing world, especially BitMate, that enhances the speed of Internet in the developing-world using peer-to-peer technology, and SMSall.pk, Pakistan’s largest SMS Social Network which has sent close to four billion SMS for users in Pakistan.
Dr Saif joins an elite group of researchers and entrepreneurs selected over the last decade. Previous winners include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Google, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, Jonathan Ive, the chief designer at Apple, David Karp, founder of Tumbler; Harvard Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik for his work on Quantum computers, and MIT Neuroscientist Ed Boyden, one of the inventors of the emerging field of optogenetics, which makes it possible to control neurons with light.
MIT Technology Review selects the top innovators after a rigorous evaluation process. The judges, who are leading experts in their fields from universities such as MIT, Stanford and Harvard, consider hundreds of high-impact researchers and entrepreneurs from all over the world, out of which top 35 are chosen for the award.
“This year’s group of TR35 recipients is driving the next wave of transformative technology and making an impact on the way we live, work and interact”, said Jason Pontin, editor-in-chief and publisher of the MIT Technology Review.
Dr Saif has won numerous awards for his innovative technology solutions for the developing-world. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009. He is a recipient of the MIT Technovator Award, Mark Weiser Award, Digital Inclusion Award from Microsoft Research and the IDG Technology Pioneer Award.
Before moving to Pakistan, Dr Saif worked at MIT and received a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.
