They live...

Self thoughts on time spent on unnecessary things.

noreply@blogger.com (Barun) — Wed, 22 Nov 2017 00:14:00 +0000

Some of my friends and relatives commented that they haven't seen my photos recently on my blog nor in the social media, which brought attention to my recent no-need-to-publish feeling in general with photography. Thinking about it and looking at my photo backups in external drive made me really think that the pile of photos has gone MASSIVELY large.

Not that I have lost motivation or didn't have subject to shoot. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (Lapland of Finland) where landscapes are enough and scenes changes all throughout the year. I make a lot of photos and store them on external drives for going through them later. Being busy at work and other things in life in general, I haven't had time to go through the old photos at all. Moreover, I must accept that I got myself lost, in what I would like to call it the "social media maniac-ism". Rather than going for making great photos, looking/following too much at others and spending time on that.

Definitely, I support learning from others but this online presence has definitely kept me away from concentrating on my own work and diverted from reading those "to read" books on photography that are also piled up in my bookshelf. There is no doubt that social media helps in many ways, but I have the feeling that it needs to stop for controlling people and affecting me to create it as a "need" rather than one possibility.

I know this is not a new information for many people and we are somehow bound as an information-slave-worker to the social network business. The more we are online, we pay as a form of our time we are spending on them to provide contents and information. Contents like photos, posts, videos, texts etc, and information like preferences, likes, privacy, are the products of social network that they make business with. Big social media spend a lot of money in research on how to make people engaged to them and to make people use their more time on them. THIS IS' NOT A FREE DEAL.

Coming back to where I started this blog-post on comments from my friends and relatives regarding not actively sharing photos. I will be more active on that, more concerned about the things I learn, to share, to connect with people. Even though also doing this I am feeding information and thoughts to information business, I would be happy this way rather.

12.10.2016: One of the most amazing sunset!

noreply@blogger.com (Barun) — Sat, 15 Oct 2016 08:34:00 +0000

The first snow has arrived in Saariselkä and day-by-day it is getting colder. After the full day of sun, it felt little warmer that day. With the evening chill (2.5C) and estimation of a nice sunset, the plan was to go quickly to the top of Kaunispaa hill. Having a long day at work, I felt restless to put an effort to go with my heavy head. When reaching the top of the hill, the Sun had already gone down, and most of the people had already left.

Because I love that golden moment that occurs about 20 minutes after sunset, I prepare my camera and just wait. Suddenly thick foggy cloud started appearing from Saariselkä towards the hill.

The evening sunlight through the fog made the whole place magically reddish-pink. The place just became dramatic, and the fast moving fog made the scene dynamic. It felt like being carried away in clouds. Families who were still there seemed happy, and kids were jumping with a joy running in the fog.

Not so long after, other people joined.

I had to stop shooting and just watch the phenomena for sometimes. All my tiredness were gone and I felt energy again. Not that this is the first great sunset I have seen, but this one was spectacular. Nature at its best!
These are some of the photos I took with my mobile phone.

One of the interesting thing about Saariselkä is that the weather is unpredictable, always exciting of what's it going to be like. This is the same location in the morning that day:

This years summer garden

noreply@blogger.com (Barun) — Thu, 20 Mar 2014 06:57:00 +0000

Yesterday, I went to see the condition of plot for summer gardening. It still seems to be frozen with some snow! I believe if the temperature is around zero, soil should be ready to be turn around after a month.

This year I am planning to get more tomatoes, beans, and trying more of green salad leaves(raayo, palungo) grown monstly from Nepal. I am still thinking if I will be able to do another field of strawberries. Lets see if I can find someone who might want to do the plot together in summer. In any case, have to decide soon as the time to pay for this years rent is coming soon.

Weather in Finland always surprises me. Last day it was sunny, warm, and degrees around +10, and this morning out of surprise it was wet, and snowing. It was good time to leave, I mean in terms of weather :)
