MANILA, Philippines – Seven hundred signatures in a day is hardly record-breaking stuff in an era of messages going viral within hours. Still, the Facebook supporters of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Jesse Robredo believe they can 1) persuade President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to submit the Ramon Magsaysay awardee’s name to the Commission on Appointments (CA), and 2) pressure “trapos” into confirming the former mayor of Naga City.
“TAO at hindi TRAPO ang magdadala ng tunay na Pagbabago!” (The people, not the traditional politicians ...

Where is this country headed? Glorify the corrupt and put a good man down?!
I continue to be a fan.
I continue to be a supporter of Secretary Jesse Robredo.
… not because we are both Bicolanos… but because he is competent, honest, dedicated to public service, and a proven practitioner of good governance.

I had not seen a mirror since I had been in the hospital. When visitors came, I just asked whoever was with me, if I looked ok. So I never knew that my appearance had changed so dramatically, that even my own child didn’t recognize me.
I hugged and kissed and kissed and hugged my little girl. She was still dazed from sleep and probably didn’t understand why this strange lady was hugging and kissing her. Her dad was watching and so was her grandma, ...

An hour after the ICU doctor saw me, my mind started to clear. Slowly. My husband was called in. I wouldn’t be able to fully describe the look on his face. There was relief. There was gratefulness. There was marvel. There was happiness. There was love. I saw it, and at that moment, I knew things were going to be ok.
I fell asleep again shortly and I was woken up, a few hours later by many voices. Three ...

I was diagnosed with diabetes in July of 2001 as doctors tried to save my life.
Weeks before that day, I was rapidly losing weight but I thought it was just because of my extreme schedule. The country was in another upheaval. The media knew no rest. I hardly slept and ate at abnormal hours. I was in denial even as I felt my energy ebb out of me like a punctured water balloon.
Finally, a few days beforer that fateful day, I called in ...

This is not anymore about failing to handle the hostage-taking as much as this is about fulfilling the promises of your oath-taking. The Philippines faces a huge international public relations problem that if we do not resolve soon may increase the threat of retribution against our workers in HK and wreak havoc to our economy by destroying our tourism industry.
We had united to install an honest man as president and our shining victory held us in thrall for a time. President Aquino’s first actions showed an example of humility for us all. Then he set the ball running swiftly to reform our systems to ...

Sharing you guys the Statement of Apology by Jackie Chan

First of all, I’d like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims in Hong Kong affected by the tragedy in the Philippines. Maybe what I said wasn’t very clear and it was misunderstood. The content in my Twitter account was posted by my American assistant on my behalf, but after interpretation the posts did not entirely capture what I truly meant to say.
What happened to the Hong Kong tourists in the Philippines – being taken hostage and ...

(This is a re-post from FB Updates of a friend)
The known facts are these:
On August 19, 2005, Emmanuel “Bong” Madrigal, a Manila-based Filipino executive of the multinational Shell, was visiting Beijing on vacation with his wife Vivian, his daugher Regina Mia, and two younger daughters. That day, they rode a tourist bus to Tiananmen Square, the heart of the capitol. Upon arriving at the square, Emmanuel Madrigal was the first to descend from the bus, followed by Vivian and Regina Mia. A Chinese man wielding a scythe–in some reports ...
